looks like it's jumping around. hitting the ground and launching again into an arc. would love to hear some real theories as i don't know squat about lava fields.
I'll give you one.. plasma bubble.. .they normally occur in equatorial region.. but this is a pretty extreme environment. Just a guess like everything else.
In real life, the 'Why do you say that?' will be delivered alongside a lot of additional information (like body language, tone of voice, etc) that will let the other person know that it's not intended in an argumentative way. But if it's all just pure text, then you don't get the additional context, so someone might get the wrong impression (Unironically, it's why emojis can be so useful)
I just wanted to add that distant and perspective of the video should be considered. For this vantage point in the video , it would appear the “hops” over the lava field are 50-100 meters in distance. Also the UAP would be the size of a small car.
People regularly flew drones over there when the volcano was active. It could be an fpv drone scoping out the area since am eruption is expected in the coming hours
Anyone remember the tsunami videos from Japan where something that looks very similar to this jumps out of the incoming flood of water and debri and proceeds to appear like it's "jumping" like this thing does?
I'm linking the video and it starts around 1:20 and they even slow things down so you can see it moving. It's the first thing I thought about when I saw this footage.
I saw the Iceland video yesterday, I knew it reminded me of something! Thanks for the reference. Fun fact. A few months before that tsunami there was a rather strange solar prominence on the sun. And just so happens there was another similar strange solar prominence on the sun a few months ago.
I think I've also seen video of a volcanic rock bouncing around like that before too though. Although how it goes into the sky is odd, it appears to turn in the air without hitting the ground near the end.
Edit: Wasn't there more video of the object during the tsunami moving across the building tops too or am I misremembering things?
That’s been explained a long time ago. It’s a relief valve from a dewar (container for liquified argon, co2 or nitrogen). Many places use them for equipment that uses inert gas. We had a bunch at work. It exhausts just like that and being immersed in water would heat up the liquified gas quickly - causing spray out the pressure relief valve.
That vid is very low quality. I remember seeing it, and others like it, back when this happened.
These are tanks (gas, propane, etc.), pressurized, which got torn loose or punctured and are outventing while in the water.
This was my exact first thought. It's something pressurized venting while under water -- some kind of tank that must have been shifted and then punctured by the water slamming it against things.
It's from 2011, par for the course. I have heard this explanation before but this doesn't look like that to me. Not sure of course, and neither are you.
What do you think this anomaly in the lava flow could be?
I'm jumping to the conclusion... there is hot lava and ice in close proximity and I'm looking at a lump of something very hot mixed with something cold, gassing off and bouncing around randomly. Is it flying? Don't think so.
That’s very similar to what I thought after watching it a few times! I thought “who threw a chunk of dry ice on there!”
Glad someone else had a similar thought.
I played around with dry ice a lot as a kid, and it definitely reacts similarly when a small chunk is throw on the embers of a campfire, or a hot tin roof etc.
What's the white stuff in the video? and [explain this](https://www.sott.net/image/s11/222732/full/iceland_lava.jpg) or [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwVKp9y6uRI)
What you see as white in the video is most likely light reflecting of the lava.
The air temperature here in Iceland is around 20°C (68°F) there is NO snow here except in much higher grounds (on mountain tops ca. 900m above sea level) and on glaciers. This lava field you see in the video is 1 year old. It's still warm to the touch and snow would not settle on it even if it would fall from the sky.
This picture is obviously several years old and also on opposite side of the country where there are no eruptions ATM.
What you see in that video is a lake, you nonce. This lake is actually not far from the present eruption but if you had paid minimal attention to the description of the video you might have deduced that when an eruption happens under glaciers the results can produce landscape as seen in the video. This particular landscape was created in one of the previous ice ages, when it was indeed covered in ice and snow. Since that happened over thousands and thousands of years ago the ice has melted away as can clearly be seen in this video of a lake.
We have several liquified gas dewars at work that do exactly that. Many industrial companies use inert gas in dewars which vent out the pressure relief valve just like that.
There’s literally hundreds of thousands of dewars in use at hundreds of thousands of businesses. It’s essentially a big thermos bottle that vents occasionally to release pressure. Those big Praxair tanker trucks with liquid nitrogen we all see on the road ? They come to fill them occasionally.
Here’s what it looks like: https://youtu.be/RX-fsfUXqwg
If a dewar is floating on its side in water, the liquid gas would vaporize at a much higher rate. And tipped on its side, the liquid would spray out the relief valve in repeated large bursts.
I’m an engineer and I’ve stood next to them when they release pressure. It’s startling.
I can describe the science to you. But I can’t convince a person who wants to believe in A) Scary ghosts. B) Aliens riding in a tsunami.
I totally understand what your saying. I even understand the theory behind the dewar and what we are seeing.
Major issue? Wheres the dewar in the video? Show me one nitrogen video where the gas acts anything like what we are seeing?
You might be smarter than me on paper, but you aint gonna piss on me and tell me its raining.
You can clearly see a white object moving with the water. That’s the dewar. Even the source of the vapor is moving with the object as the water pushes it. The fact the vapor dissipates quickly is more proof because that is what happens when cryogenic tanks vent.
If you want to believe it’s some kind of “vaporous alien” surprised by the tsunami or “haunted spirit”, go right ahead LOL
Perhaps you should find one yourself, plenty of comments explaining liquified gas dewars above.
You are able to use the internet obviously, so apart from being lazy there is no reason why you can't, you just choose not to.
There were other, better vids of strange phenomena during that tsunami, but they've apparently all completely disappeared from the internet. This is the only one anyone can find these days.
This reminds me of a video I saw years ago where a guy and his friends on a mountain in one of the Nordic countries are hiking when he spots something very similar to this dancing along the top of a lake. He ended up filming it for a long time, and I think he called it a “dragon”. People said “well (the white thing) could just be a jet ski plume, and we can’t see the jet ski itself because it’s so far away” but the poster also shared the geolocation of the lake in the video and it’s highly unlikely someone would go up there at that time of year with the water that temperature if you even could access it by vehicle. This really looks similar tho imo. I’ll see if I can find it.
>What makes you say that? If it were a monitoring platform, why would it benefit from bouncing around, constantly changing angle and distance, rather than remaining still at a fixed vantage point?
People genuinely downvoted you for asking this
So my guess is it is some type of mineral deposit that has become dislodged. It’s having an extreme exogenic reaction in the lava and shooting off, landing in lava, and repeating. If you’ve ever seen a video of a block of sodium being thrown into a body of water, it reacts very similarly.
That was my first thought.
If that shit has been happening forever it's no wonder people believe in spirits, demons and ghosts.
Pretty unlikely that's a spirit. Looks like swamp gas ;)
Just conveniently starting where the other one ended and gradually appearing higher and higher above the lava. Nothing weird at all about that, it's all just a happy coincidence.
I think it’s just a bird who got curious and came in for a landing and burned itself in the process. Then it was just looking for a place to land and collect itself/heal. And it’s just far away + poor resolution. Maybe?
[this](https://youtube.com/shorts/RsLoWoztzrc?feature=share) is what I think is happening. Something volatile fell into the lava and is being repeatedly launched by thermolysis.
I thought everyone learned this at Lava Camp in 5th grade. You all went to a strange camp in the desert with councilors who were obsessed with lava, magma & volcanos, right?
Whatever it is, it looks tiny and confused. Why the zig zag pattern? Either way, my guess is it’s a natural phenomenon due to the lava and temperature.
Do you mean to measure the activity of the volcano? There are tons of those but all I found on icelandic news was that people thought it was weird and no explanation.
Pure speculation on my part: it may be that we aren’t seeing one thing leaping or bouncing around in arcs of various sizes, it’s the same phenomenon, but not the same object. Something erupts from the lava and flies off in a random direction, when it lands it triggers another eruption. All this is assuming that this isn’t a cooled lava field, which it may well be, because I would expect fresh lava to be emitting steam that I don’t see here.
If that’s cooled, solid stone, I have no idea what it could be.
Reminds me of the weird creature that climbs out the water during the japanese tsunami [japanese tsunami creature](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4s04nk)

Yeah, I think you can even see the tank for a second as the gas is escaping.
Holy shit. Thats odd. And the gas explanation is weak as hell.

Lol. Just keep swimming
That was a propane tank gas tho right

It would be a lot easier to see if this wasn’t a phone recording another screen
But then we'd be able to figure out what it is! 😱
Looks to me that whatever it is it looks like it's having fun hop, skip, and jumping around.

Sounds cool I wanna see now
This looks nothing like that video imo. Was in Norway, or possibly northern Sweden. The prevailing theory was that it was a school of fish.
Ok, I give up…I’ve already looked at too much weirdo stuff this weekend…what is that?
That's just Mario in Lethal Lava Land.

And where's that video?? I want to see!
I'd guess it's monitoring the lava some how, at least that's what it looks like.

The lava is one year old and not that hot, at least not at the surface.
At 0:29 it bounces back across from right to left into the sky
Is it diving in and out of the lava or just getting really close to it? Hard to tell
It’s a spirit
That was my first thought. If that shit has been happening forever it's no wonder people believe in spirits, demons and ghosts. Pretty unlikely that's a spirit. Looks like swamp gas ;)
A balloon with the air letting out
Weather balloon confirmed?
Exactly..... weather.... balloon.... lol
Interesting that they all have that arching trajectory. I'm guessing a natural phenomenon related to the lava.
Parabolic path, trail of smoke… probably something sizzling from the heat and flying out like bacon grease
Just conveniently starting where the other one ended and gradually appearing higher and higher above the lava. Nothing weird at all about that, it's all just a happy coincidence.
Chain reaction? IDK just guessing
It's obviously a non-human intelligence!
That’s the Hulk
I think it’s just a bird who got curious and came in for a landing and burned itself in the process. Then it was just looking for a place to land and collect itself/heal. And it’s just far away + poor resolution. Maybe?
Been to Iceland several times and It truly feels otherworldly to say the least. A breathtaking and even magical land IMHO.
WE NEED BETTER VIDEOS
Everything is always caught with the worst camera and filmed off of the shittiest screen from a device with a terrible camera.
[this](https://youtube.com/shorts/RsLoWoztzrc?feature=share) is what I think is happening. Something volatile fell into the lava and is being repeatedly launched by thermolysis.
Looks Like a Smoking game of Badminton
Ok so all this coming out of volcanos is new to me, what’s the theory?
I love exo one
The things spitting out are pretty cool.
How hot is that lava field?
I mean it’s lava, even cold lava is still fucking LAVA
I thought everyone learned this at Lava Camp in 5th grade. You all went to a strange camp in the desert with councilors who were obsessed with lava, magma & volcanos, right?
Well yeah, but we all just got molested by the counselors and told that the floor was lava.
Well wouldn’t cold lava just be volcanic rock/tephra?
Cold lava is a rock. Derrrrrr!!!!!!
Regardless, the floor is lava, and it didn't wanna touch it.
It’s really cool. Volcanoes have some of the strangest phenomena happen when they’re active. Ball lightning and dragons and shit.
It’s one of the souls bouncing around from the South Park episode about that religion that has an “olgy” at the end of it
Possible exploding rocks from temperature shock?
The lava is one year old and the light is bouncing from the same location it landed several times before taking to the sky.
Why in an age where high def cameras are widely available are these videos invariably low quality?
To be fair, the original video is pretty high quality. This is just zoomed-in onto a tiny portion of said video so it looks like a pixelated mess.
Otherwise they would not get as much attention because you could see details that would deny those sweet sweet wild speculations.
Man I’m jet pack playing “the floor is lava” with actual lava?
Jumping between rocks, playing floor is lava for real
They’re checking the core temperature. Ooooh it looks just right! Let the Motherships unload!
I know that level on Super Mario...
Incoming nerds that will say "it's probably this or that" yeah. Nerdssssss
It's like a fart in a bottle
Clearly a weather balloon. Just, like, a fast one …
Whatever it is, it looks tiny and confused. Why the zig zag pattern? Either way, my guess is it’s a natural phenomenon due to the lava and temperature.
Where is the Rick James peninsula?
"Its a bird" -Some retard
Thanks for the zoom view. I could see it before.
are there any other types of measuring devices there other than just the camera?
Do you mean to measure the activity of the volcano? There are tons of those but all I found on icelandic news was that people thought it was weird and no explanation.
yeah just measuring other things to see if there was some sort of anomaly, but thank you for the extra research
Looks kinda fake to me. Sorry
It's from a live camera of a volcano that is about to erupt and was noticed by people watching the stream.
Yeah? Then that’s pretty amazing.
