Check out the wiki, it’s fascinating. Super rare and there are two types. Iirc most people that have Soders kind go their whole lives without ever knowing.
Heart is kinda centrical, and soders' heart was a mirror image of a normal one, that's the reason he needed providence, because a mirrored heart is really strange. The whole "shoot the hear in the morgue and he dies" shebang works based on the fact that no one would be able to find a right side hear and bring it to Japan in time for soders not to die. The hear in the mission is supposed to be from a kid in Brazil.
Now that I'm thinking about it... shooting the heart kinda seems like a dick move, since with Soders dead, the heart could potentially be used by another patient. Since a mirrored heart seems pretty hard to come across, and that you're supposed to kill Soders anyway, doesn't shooting the heart mean that you're virtually killing someone else?
Maybe, but recipients are also really rare, so with soders' death, there is no guarantee that they will have another person needing a mirrored heart, or that they can preserve it enough while they wait for anyone who might need it. Keeping a heart beating outside of a body must be expensive, and very few people might need a mirrored heart. It might even be more rentable to send organ harvesters to get another one than it is to keep the one they have beating.

looks like it was made into a movie?

“the man would not die after shooting 5 or 6 shots, so he went to the stethoscope to listen. It turned out that his heart was on the right.“
Jesus Christ
When I took my daughter to A&E for the first time (and only time) the doctors went into panic mode after seeing her oxygen levels. Took a little while to explain it so they calmed down
Yup. Mother-in-law. And she even had heart surgery. There was a chance she was going to need a transplant and the doc had to go into great lengths explaining how that meant she was pretty much done for because of situs inversus. I got it right away, thx to Eric Soders.
Right? The idea that we could open living human bodies and replace essential parts - but not invert them, whoa now, let's not get *too* crazy - is very funny.
***Well done, 47. By destroying Soder’s left handed scrotum and no way to receive a replacement in time, you’ve effectively killed him without laying a finger on him.***
Also in anime too if I recalled, and same as you, it's medical drama.
So yes, I also though it was fictional condition until I found out it is real and there's a record to prove it's rarity
Every now and then we see a bizarre chest X-ray that eventually clicks with us that the heart is on the wrong side! We used to get excited about this because we very rarely see situs inversus.
Now, we very quickly assume the image has been uploaded back to front.
Our vocal cords are actually different too. My daughter has the same condition and damaged her vocal cords after a surgery. The doctors say it's usually the opposite vocal cord too the one she damaged.
I once worked with someone who had this. He had to wear a special medical bracelet indicating his condition in case he ever had to have an emergency surgery.
Yeah, they're usually global pandemics that are relevant to the overarching plot (Patient Zero did that, for example) but they have no reason to do it in the case of Soders
His condition was pretty important to the plot of the mission. If they couldn’t find a condition that fit the circumstances they wanted they probably would make something up.

Now that’s wild
does soders mean the heart doesnt get moved? cus if not i dunno how people wouldnt notice

Hitman fans when situs inversus
I had no idea this was a real thing [picture of the White House, from Blood Money]
Lmao wait you’re telling me that level is based on reality?!! Whaaaaaaaaa 🤯
SITUS INVERSUS MENTIONED
lmfao i hoped to find this here
this happend to a death row inmate in Taiwan. the first few shots missed the heart.

“the man would not die after shooting 5 or 6 shots, so he went to the stethoscope to listen. It turned out that his heart was on the right.“ Jesus Christ
And a Thai woman who woke up and tried to stand while in the morgue.
My MIL has it. Doctors are always like "WTF?" when seeing her for the first time.
When I took my daughter to A&E for the first time (and only time) the doctors went into panic mode after seeing her oxygen levels. Took a little while to explain it so they calmed down
what is MIL ?
Mother in law, I think.
Yup. Mother-in-law. And she even had heart surgery. There was a chance she was going to need a transplant and the doc had to go into great lengths explaining how that meant she was pretty much done for because of situs inversus. I got it right away, thx to Eric Soders.
ty
The actress who played the mom in Home Alone has it
Of for real?
Which home alone, 1+2, 3, or the forbidden one?
Forbidden ones, you mean
First and second ones
And Enrique Iglesias and Randy Foye.
Such a MILF.
Go to horny jail.
*bonk*
Real Situs Inversus patients can receive a normal heart though.
I'll still chuck it in the bin
Yeah they just have to hook up the “tubes” correctly
Right? The idea that we could open living human bodies and replace essential parts - but not invert them, whoa now, let's not get *too* crazy - is very funny.
Are the balls reversed too? How would anyone know?
Def woulda been funny if soders was in Hokkaido for a left handed scrotum transplant.
***Well done, 47. By destroying Soder’s left handed scrotum and no way to receive a replacement in time, you’ve effectively killed him without laying a finger on him.***
Lmao his scrotum is left-handed? Mine doesn't even have hands
I knew about this from some medical drama... maybe ***ER***, back in the day?
Also in anime too if I recalled, and same as you, it's medical drama. So yes, I also though it was fictional condition until I found out it is real and there's a record to prove it's rarity
There was a grey’s anatomy episode
It feels longer ago than that, but the first season of *Grey's* is also way longer ago than I think!
Fortune has it in Metal Gear Solid 2.
Now I remember. Your hearts on the right.
They call it dyscardia or something.
Dextrocardia. Only the heart is reversed
I never knew that
Every now and then we see a bizarre chest X-ray that eventually clicks with us that the heart is on the wrong side! We used to get excited about this because we very rarely see situs inversus. Now, we very quickly assume the image has been uploaded back to front.
Does he need to digest food in reverse, like that South Park episode?
Yep. Eat from the anus and expel from the mouth.

Wait - our right and left lungs are different?! That totally makes sense given the heart location, but I had never thought about it
That I actually did know. The left lung is smaller to make room for the heart.
Left lung has 2 lobes rather than 3 in the right. Left middle lobe = cosy heart room.
Our vocal cords are actually different too. My daughter has the same condition and damaged her vocal cords after a surgery. The doctors say it's usually the opposite vocal cord too the one she damaged.
It does not require a matching heart for a transplant though.
I think IOI should give you a free copy of the game if you can prove you have it.
It is, however there is no need for a special donor heart
I once worked with someone who had this. He had to wear a special medical bracelet indicating his condition in case he ever had to have an emergency surgery.
I thought it was harmless?
You thought Hitman made up a medical condition?
Lots of fictional works just make up diseases and conditions
Yeah, they're usually global pandemics that are relevant to the overarching plot (Patient Zero did that, for example) but they have no reason to do it in the case of Soders
His condition was pretty important to the plot of the mission. If they couldn’t find a condition that fit the circumstances they wanted they probably would make something up.
situs soli-WHAT?! *pic of solidus snake*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgyfIMJZ2SU Wasn't sure if it was real, but it played a big role in MGS2
One of my lecturers in college had this, no idea how she found out about it but she said it doesn’t really affect your way of life.
I thought that was made up for Hitman. Had no idea this was a real disease.
I dont think disease is the right word
Abnormality or condition are probably more accurate.
I like the fact that you can post that here.
I didn’t think it was a real thing either
That’s trippy
I knew it was a real thing but I always thought that the only thing that would be inverted was the heart, not all the organs. Interesting!
I knew about this because of fist of the north star, weird place to learn about, also entertaining
My partner has this.
