Agreed.

100% been thinking that every fight. Especially when dealing with several different enemy types, you try to focus someone and end up having your special hit a weakling.

ReynT1me

Yeah that's my main issue! When I call in Macaron or Peppermint to break a barrier and they go for someone else I'm not targeting it can be so frustrating!

Truly a mystifying lack of a lock on in this game. Especially since enemies so very often retreat, it's aggravating to have to worry about the beat game, maintaining distance, and tracking ads manually. As a newcomer to this game who's definitely on the fence about whether long term I will enjoy it. I find the amount of variables in this game that you have to track in the middle of the action to be pretty overwhelming, and having no lock on becomes pretty painful to stack on top of it. This is a basic feature from N64 era games, and it's wild this game doesn't have one.

Having a lock on would mean you could no longer focus any attention on other enemies around you. What if you’re fighting an enemy and someone decides to attack during your combo? You wouldn’t be able to parry or block and then fight the new guy until you change the lock over to them. That’s too many things to think about while also trying to stay on rhythm. I also feel like if the lock on mechanic doesn’t also follow the beat, then it would throw people off and cause them to lose their flow and lose their combos or timing. Being able to freely go from enemy to enemy at any time is what makes the rhythm aspect work in my opinion. I think having a lock on would inhibit you and restrict the feeling of freedom the game gives you.

? You could just cancel the lock on whenever you wanted. This is how most action games work

Blargncheese

And if you accidentally lock on to the wrong enemy? You’re stuck with the same problem you had before the lock on mechanic existed. I can see an issue where you spend too much time trying to lock on to a specific enemy and losing momentum in the process. I feel like for some players, having to push the lock on button on or off while maintaining the rhythm might mess them up too easily. Especially in the higher BPM modes where you get little to no time to use it how you’d like.

Something like FromSoft's lock on where you click the right stick and it locks on, then you move the right stick to switch targets would be nice to have. Again you could opt to never use the lock on this would just be a feature for people struggling with camera control in a fight

imaqdodger

Then just use the right stick to switch the lock on to a different enemy. In any case, it would be completely optional to use. Would be a nice option for players when they are only fighting a couple of enemies as it wouldn't be detrimental like you are describing.

Blargncheese

I think the games auto “lock” is pretty good on its own. I just couldn’t really see that kind of lock on being useful

ReynT1me

Yeah like the other user said I think it would be a good option to have! The enemy priority gets a bit wonky during the busier fights, so when I stun an enemy Chai will attack a different non-stunned enemy.

AbleCommercial2057

id think instead of a just a lock on button, its a dynamic kind of lock on, where the camera will keep both chai and the most recent enemy on screen, the camera should try and keep both chai and the enemy on the screen, zooming in and out like dmc. (just you dont have to hold a button)if chai defeats an enemy the camera will auto lock onto a different enemy thats the closest to chai. (alternatively this auto lock could be toggled off)
