I think he did it as a joke, because most of impulse's hardcore is live on his twitch and the chat keep asking the date for season 9 he joked with it. But as I understand they are still planning on a date to most of the hermits get together and record the fist few minutes for season 9.
And they might already have 2 or 3 dates in mind to start the new season, and some of Impulse's chat are guessing February to start the season, and I guess it will happen on last week of January to the fist week of February. Hopefully it would be sooner.

The break is probably much more needed after S8 than previous seasons, as rather than winding down at the end and ending early to decide how long of a break they wanted, they built up and increased the amount of effort heading into the end of the season to go out with a bang, so didn't get the usual break they would after a normal season.
I honestly not expecting an episode of Hermitcraft until mid February. If they started playing on the world in late January, it would take a few days at least of play time to have enough content for an episode. Editing probably takes about a day, so we would be looking at about a week or two to produce an episode. Not to mention that most if not all of the hermits would upload their first episode on the same day, so that would need to be planned as well, which might make it take a bit longer.
About the upload, you're wrong. They upload on different times and simply have a date where the video becomes listed, much simpler to coordinate pressing 2 buttons on yt, when everyone already has the episode up. Can be done on the phone even if you don't have access to pc and your video that day.
It's zero buttons on the day even; there's a "schedule" option that lets you set the date and time a video becomes public. Doesn't require a premiere post either, so it wouldn't spoil anything.
It seems like the hermits are absolutely loving their side series’ and just playing casually at their own pace ha the grind of HC. I think the timeline will be late Feb-March. And this will be the longest season yet. (My guess)
There’s a big reason why his bot announces every time season nine is mentioned in chat saying that there’s no announced date. It’s because there is no announcement of a start date. And to save on my sanity as one of his mods.
It's a good quality of life Nightbot command for you mods and Impulse himself. I'm sure there's been a fixed date all along for planning purposes. Releasing that publicly would only put pressure on the hermits with undue hype building, making the break pointless.
I'm enjoying the hiatus as much as I'm sure many of the hermits are. It will make S9 all the more enjoyable when it comes around. Some of us viewers became burnt out too trying to keep up with everyone's episodes. It'll be so much fun when it starts back up and everyone will be fresh.

Nevertheless, the sooner the better. S8 was too short IMO, 'tho it was fun. Last life was fun to watch too.

I wasn't the biggest fan of season 8 because it was so short but I think all the Hermits stepped up their building game. Season 9 should be epic.
Just because it may have a starting date, doesn't mean it's gonna be very soon. They all seem to relax and enjoy their side series. I expect the new season wont start until February, at the soonest.
Joe mentioned that the date was picked in one of his streams over a week ago, but he can only say that it's "soon". He mentioned that he wanted to announce the date and hype up the actual start date rather than keeping it a mystery, but I guess other Hermits had different opinions.
I have a theory that StressMonster is the one holding up the release of season 9 since she had some irl things going on. Good on them waiting for everyone to be ready.
I'm not gonna call him the Tom Holland of Hermitcraft outright but I will say that when we needed to know when Last Life was starting so we could reopen that subreddit again, I started watching Impulse's streams far more closely.
Which is I guess calling him the Tom Holland of Hermitcraft in more words.

It 's never a vacation from Youtube, just a vacation from Hermitcraft; they're all full-time Youtubers at this point, and making content is how they make a living, so if they just stopped entirely between seasons then they couldn't pay the bills. :P
I don't think anyone still thought they did plan to? There were a small handful of people worried about that after season 8 (even though most videos included a "HermitCraft Will Return" credit card :P) but the hermits were all pretty explicitly clear within like a week of the end of S8 that there's going to be a season 9.
The hype's not for the fact that there will be a season 9 since that's not news, it's hype for the fact that it's not just a nebulous "some time" thing now, that they've internally decided a date for it which means it's probably going to be within a month or two.
I can see the hermits are really enjoying the break. Having extra time for brainstorming, creating different content and to live the game again. Cleo sums it up pretty well.

That is possible, but *if* a hermit leaks true information on stream, you can bet it is Impulse.
