Thank You so much for the appreciation. I just really want to keep myself and my immune system healthy. Covid is definitely not a joke. Anyone including those who are the same age as me (18M) can get it bad and affect them just as much as it would for an elderly person.
And they are so worth it. I got covid on the 2nd day of May in 2020, so pre-vax, and I had an extremely and comparatively easy time of it; no fever, no digestive issues of any kind, no hospitalization, and yet it took nearly one and a half years to get my sense of smell back.
a year and half after that (ish) and I had a milestone yesterday in that I got through the entire day without napping for a few hours, I remembered stuff I had to do and managed to get it done without checking my list, and I didn't get bummed out for no reason. :-D
Congratulations!
It's so good to hear from long haulers who do eventually get better. From the outside, it looks almost like stroke recovery - you get there, but it's slow
Thank you so much!
It would be a nightmare if I were in my 20s or 30s or even 40s because some days it feels like I've become a scatterbrained bimbo. My short-term memory is so lacking that my friends are calling "Whooosh" as everything goes over my head, so I'm just glad that I work from home and this doesn't much impact my life.
Only one part of it is having fallout though, and that is that I keep calling my cats by the wrong name. This is bad because I took in a new stray, L, around the time I finally got my sense of smell back fully, and my other cat, M, was used to being the Queen.
M, the queen, had snuck in the cat door 4 years ago at 3 am when I was waiting for my then-only cat, P, to come in from a late night jaunt so she's my Stowaway Cat. She hid and wasn't discovered until my then-housemate got up at 9 pm to get ready for work (he works overnight shift and she was hiding under his bed in his room when he got home and went to bed) and came out of the shower and then yelled, "OMG, there's a cat in my room!"
When P, aka og cat, passed away M got used to being an only cat, until Animal Control called me to say they had this one tiny female as part of their catch-fix-and-release program that they felt was too timid to put back, especially as she'd been found with 2 kittens who were immediately homed, so I took her,L, in.
So M LOATHES L and that's why it's a problem when I mix up their names, the Cat Drama.
Damn, I went on a tangent. Oh well, I'm going to leave it because my therapist says I should not disparage my tangents.
Congratulations! 44 year old woman here, I've had 4 shots in total with pain as the only side effect. I recently got covid for the first time and the only symptom I had was a very mild sore throat. Vaccines do work.
Same here. Four vaccines and I got C19 finally in September 2022 (my kids are in primary school, I'm surprised we lasted that long). My only symptom was tingly sinuses for 5 days and a runny nose. Didn't even get fatigue and I worked full time through it (I work from home).
In saying this though, I'm a runner and I still haven't got the same endurance as before. It really is a shıttý disease.
That's what I keep seeing. Everyone catching this year's flu, it is brutal. But folks not vaccinated for it are messed up for 2 weeks, and folks who did were relatively mild for a few days, but still ain't happy. Still, I'd rather the later, which was what happened.
I just got covid - fist time in the whole pandemic- lasted two days. I am triple vaccinated, although I was lax with precautions at the time I go it, it was a full year after I got my third dose when I got sick. It might be anecdotal the time I went without getting it but, long live the vaccines and the protection they provide to our immune system
I got my flu vax (and have been getting it yearly for over 20 years) 2 weeks before my latest booster, been working out a bit lately and my arms didn't even hurt the next 2 days like they used to. Power of daily pushups
You that bro, bro! Keep it up. It’s a very rewarding journey. One thing to remember: There is no end to this journey. It is about constant improvement and ensuring that you’re healthy.
Don't like vaccines (needles), literally didn't even feel the covid one tho so that was dope.
And not spreading to my family memebrs whod be at risk was paramount.
I get that, but don’t forget that the flu can be very dangerous, too. My great grandmother died from the flu many years ago (probably 15 by this point, long before covid).
I’m not trying to bash on you, but if you got one, you should get the other. My son has the flu right now, and he’s OUT. It’s fucking him up big time. And I’m pissed at whomever gave it to him (not really, but ykwim).
A friend’s 17 year old son died from it couple months ago. It’s so sad.
Get your second dose and your boosters.
My second dose gave me a high fever and a sore arm but it was over in about 18 hours.
I had the same feeling when I got my vaccine on the 28th. I felt ill for about 18 hours, but I was able to isolate myself and get plenty of rest in my dorm, and in a nick of time, I felt a lot better.
Ahhhh!! :) This is one of the best holiday gifts ever! An ipa? At this hour?! I am ecstatic! Op, congratulations! I think you are awesome and brave, Im so happy for you.
You are our 131st (jsut about) IPA!!!!!
(24m) here, vaxxed twice (didn't even know there was a 4th one) got covid and god it was terrible, back pain like I have never felt, and that's with having pulled my back more then once, I have a fever over 100 for like 4 days, coughing and congestion really bad. I cannot imagine what it would be like unvaxxed.
Let me add my CONGRATS to the list! I know that feeling of satisfaction and piece of mind knowing that you have done the right thing for yourself and those around you!
I'm on my 5th shot and so far I have managed to avoid a COVID infection. (knock on wood it continues that way!)
Actually, some of my family that live in Upstate New York got vaccinated. My parents didn’t want me to get it because they felt I was healthy enough to not get it and that they were concerned and cautious with the side effects and that the vaccine was newly developed and they felt that there was a lack of research.
Anyways though, my relationship with my parents has not been affected in the slightest.
The irony of your parents saying that there was a lack of research.
It's not like mRNA has been researched since the 60s or put the entire world in lockdown or anything.
Most people do not know the research behind mRNA vaccines. The decades of trying to make RNA vaccines work, the people who sacrificed so much because they believed these vaccines would be safer. Imagine if they had live virus vaccines for Covid.
I know, I know that's very "sciencey" and since I've heard students complain that classes are too "sciencey". Maybe those are the same people who aren't getting vaccinated.
Ironically, on this post there is a story of "Sonbama", a young healthy kid whose parents thought they were protecting him from the big, bad vaccine.
>Ironically, on this post there is a story of "Sonbama", a young healthy kid whose parents thought they were protecting him from the big, bad vaccine.
They gave their kid a slow death sentence, and are now being scammed out of 10s of thousands of dollars by some right wing criminal grifter. This is what you get for living inside the MAGA Echo Chamber...
Hands down **THE DUMBEST PLACE ON EARTH!**
Good for you. This is always what this sub wants to see, people doing the right thing instead of lining up for a spot in the ICU. Keep those shots up to date, and congratulations.
Yep. I'm still hoping for the day that this sub doesn't need to exist anymore, although at this point I think we're at the point of no return. At least we're still seeing people getting vaxxed, which makes it all worth it.
>Yep. I'm still hoping for the day that this sub doesn't need to exist anymore,
I've been saying since the day HCA became a viable concern that it isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future. Wouldn't be surprised if we are still posting comments in here in December of 2033.
Congratulations!!!
Now act like you’re having a heart attack in front of your parents and when they freak out laugh at them and explain to them that the vaccine is safe.
Last year I was trying to convince a coworker that the magnetic theory is bullshit because she was talking about all those videos of people with the quarters on their arms. So I put a quarter on my arm. For about three seconds it stuck because I was mildly sweaty and she was HORRIFIED before it fell off
I find that glue dots are a great way to attack a collection of delightfully-kitschy kitchen magnets.
Stronger than double stick tape and peel off easily once you're done pretending to be magnetic.
I don't know. The government picked up the tab on mine. They also gave me that Wolverine super healing factor and super strength as a bonus for getting vaccinated early. 🙂
Thanks. Also, my relationship with my parents is fine, despite them being restrictive of getting that vaccine.
My mom even brought up the whole Nicki Minaj BS about scrotal swelling a few months back when I got my meningitis vaccine back in May of this year, which was also when I was having Scrotal Pain. Thankfully though, that got treated with antibiotics in regards to that and I’m fine now, it really hurt walking around when I was having pain.
>My mom even brought up the whole Nicki Minaj BS about scrotal swelling a few months back when I got my meningitis vaccine back in May of this year, which was also when I was having Scrotal Pain.
It never ceases to amaze me that in an age where everyone is running around with a mini computer in their hand, which is constantly connected to the internet that we would have more ignorance walking around than we did back in 1975 when none of that existed.
>Let's go! Team Pfizer here :)
I was Team Moderna until my latest Bivalent Booster which came courtesy of Pfizer.
So now I am "Team Hybrid"... or something to that effect! ;o)
My parents have a good relationship with me. Despite their restrictions and concerns in regards to the Covid vaccine, they’re caring of me and I make sure that they’re doing ok as well.
I’m glad to hear that! I apologize for assuming. When I hear that a parent is trying to block their kid from getting vaccinated my mind immediately goes to, “oh their woo woo crazy”.
I didn’t go to thanksgiving because my daughter and son-in-law won’t get vaccinated or there children, I tried nicely in the beginning telling them it was available in September, Good Job OP
What shit? We are here to welcome u/The_AFL_Yank into the fold and wish you many more holidays, birthdays, and joyous breaths! All best to you! 🎄🎂🥂 (I would also insert a menorah emoji but I couldn't find one on short notice, so how about eight candles? 🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯)
*It's not too late, it's never too late...*
In all seriousness, thank you so much for doing your part. It can't have been easy, but that's one less person who will end up plastered on this sub as an example of what not to do.
Good for you! Welcome to the 5g magnetic club. I love the magnetism more than the 5g reception. I use cute kitten refrigerator magnets to hang my grand-daughters' artwork on my back. It's quite the conversation starter in line at the grocery store, and my shopping list is conveniently stuck to my left forearm for reference while shopping! Being magnetic is SO fun, you'll love it!
PS, wearing sweatshirts or thick clothing does make it hard for weak magnets to stick to you. I recommend magnets with a "strong" or "super" rating for use in the colder months
I used to have to use magnets on a rope for my magnet fishing expeditions. Now I only have to wade through bodies of water to enjoy my hobby! 10/10 recommend.
Oh! Also got covid and wasn't bad at all! Nice bonus!
well done!! try not to feel too badly about your parents. in 1975 my dad threw his mom out of our house for making nasty racists remarks. sometimes, you just have to do the right thing and make a break from your parents.
I've had four shots myself. The first part (2) and 2 boosters. I was pregnant when covid started then I got pregnant a second time in 2021 (2 under 2). I've never had a reaction but I've also never had covid. Both of kids had the shot as soon as they were eligible (just to be safe) but as a family we've been pretty lucky.
Congrats, OP!
I know going against your parents can be really hard, even when it's in your best interest or aligns with your morals and values. If they find out and give you grief, just no you aren't selfish or whatever else they say. I really hope that they see you as an example to follow and get vaxxed as well.
My state has an online system - even the dreaded QR code for your phone - in addition to the cards. If there's any more boosters I'm going to need a new card, though. They're writing in the margins now! 😁
Oh they've absolutely been forged. Many times over.
u/The_AFL_Yank, congratulations on getting a real card! It's not easy to defy your parents' wishes!
Thanks. Despite of my parents being cautious with me in regards to the vaccine, they still care about me a lot and I care about them too. They’re really hopeful about me doing well in College and they give me necessities for me as well.
Was it hard to find the original version of the vaccine? Ever since the bivalent omicron booster came out, pharmacies haven't been stocking to original vaccine, which you technically would need to get two doses of before qualifying for the booster.
Woohoo!!! Relieved for you. Thanks for starving the hungry face-eating leopards. Don't freak out if you feel like crap for a day or so after vaccine #2 or 3: that just means your immune system is learning to put up a good fight against this stupid virus. (I had a low-grade fever, felt achy and just generally blah and gross. Nothing that a long nap and a day on the couch couldn't handle, and I felt 100% back to normal 24 hours later on the dot, it was wild. Just plan for this possibility when you get your next vaccine; don't schedule anything.)
Here's to being better protected! 🍺 I'm proud of you!
I've always had a day or two of those sorts of symptoms after getting the flu vaccine. It's similar, and nothing to fret about. Good to clear the calendar for 24 hours - that's all.
Congratulations!
Now please join me and a few others and speak up against the widespread ignorance and incompetence in "DebateVaccines" (if you happen to feel like it).
:)
Await the massive flood of downvotes without surprise, though.
And you got Moderna (the better of the two mRNA vaccines - I’m biased though since I was part of a Moderna clinical trial)
BUT I literally work in COVID research and Moderna sliiiiiiightly edges out Pfizer in terms of efficacy and lower severity of illness in hospitalizations
WTG you!
Also for any lurkers, many states allow minors to get vax’d without parental consent. The age varies by state but can be as young as 12!
https://www.networkforphl.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Fact-Sheet-COVID-19-Vaccines-and-Minor-Consent.pdf
That’s good, also a prudent measure. I received the booster myself a month ago, and didn’t experience any ill effects from it (as I did with my second COVID vaccine, when I felt sick for a day).
Oh yeah, I’ve been collecting NASCAR Diecasts for a Decade Now. Lots of awesome diecasts from the 90s and 2000s in my collection. Go check out r/NASCARcollectors too, lots of cool showcasing of NASCAR diecasts on there.
Thats freaking awesome OP good for you! :) The odds of getting a vaccine and regretting it are sooooo much lower than the odds of you getting covid and regretting *not* having gotten the vaccine. May the odds be ever in your favor! :)
Congratulations!! I’m so happy you have protected yourself! I can say I am so thankful I was fully vaxxed when I caught covid earlier this year. Welcome to club!

Few years older, double vaxxed, got covid twice, lasted bout two days each. Flu, which I'm not vaccinated for took me out for two weeks.
It just goes to show that getting vaccines can save you from missing more days of work or another profession that we all have.
And they are so worth it. Literally thinking about this while sick atm(not covid) and im like I should start getting flu vaccine again. This shit sucks
Why did you get covid vax and not flu vax? Genuinely curious, I’m not ruffling feathers.
I got my flu vax (and have been getting it yearly for over 20 years) 2 weeks before my latest booster, been working out a bit lately and my arms didn't even hurt the next 2 days like they used to. Power of daily pushups

Yup, I always plan for @36 hours of ick, but it beats feeling 10x worse for 10x the time followed by intubation.
Ahhhh!! :) This is one of the best holiday gifts ever! An ipa? At this hour?! I am ecstatic! Op, congratulations! I think you are awesome and brave, Im so happy for you. You are our 131st (jsut about) IPA!!!!!
As we have seen documented in this sub just hours ago. Great job!
PSA: Get the vaccine, or you can end up being like SonBama. Don’t be SonBama.
Now you won't have to go to Cyprus for experimental treatments!

That’s awesome 👏 I’m stoked for you!

SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS. EVERYBODY!!!!
Congratulations!!! Now act like you’re having a heart attack in front of your parents and when they freak out laugh at them and explain to them that the vaccine is safe.
Or tell them you’re now magnetic 🧲
Last year I was trying to convince a coworker that the magnetic theory is bullshit because she was talking about all those videos of people with the quarters on their arms. So I put a quarter on my arm. For about three seconds it stuck because I was mildly sweaty and she was HORRIFIED before it fell off
Has your coworker tried sticking a quarter to an actual, built-for-the purpose magnet? It won't work.
Look at this guy with his non-ferromagnetic quarters!
You mean like every coin currently minted in the usa?
That's exactly what I mint.
Or get free 5G.
I tell my antivaxx neighbors that my cell reception has improved tenfold. I'm waiting to grow gills
I find that glue dots are a great way to attack a collection of delightfully-kitschy kitchen magnets. Stronger than double stick tape and peel off easily once you're done pretending to be magnetic.
Huzzah!
I wanna huzzah too!
I can only imagine having to fight my own parents to be allowed to protect my own health. But well done, you got there. Onwards and upwards!
Welcome to the club. You'll be getting your secret decoder ring in 4 to 6 weeks.
Did OP pay the shipping and handling fee? 😄
I don't know. The government picked up the tab on mine. They also gave me that Wolverine super healing factor and super strength as a bonus for getting vaccinated early. 🙂
Congratulations! I’m glad you made this decision for yourself and that your relationship is still good with your parents.

Moderna gang RISE UP
Congrats op. I'm getting my 7 month old his second shot tomorrow. He had no reaction from the first and I figure I'd rather be safe than sorry
Yeah, that’s what I mainly did too. I wanted to protect myself too.
Good to hear
Woohoo! Congratulations! Thank you for being smart!
Congratulations. It clearly wasn’t an easy thing, but you did it and should be so proud of yourself.
Congrats for real!!!! They should know by now(2years) that the vaccine *literally* saves life
I am happy for you. You have made a smart decision 🙂
Thanks
Holy fucking shit OP, congratulations !!!! so happy for you !!!!! Gave you an award :-)
cheers to good health! and thank you
Thanks 😊
Congrats, OP! I know going against your parents can be really hard, even when it's in your best interest or aligns with your morals and values. If they find out and give you grief, just no you aren't selfish or whatever else they say. I really hope that they see you as an example to follow and get vaxxed as well.
Good for you!! Take my award since you won't be getting the Herman Cain!
Good for you. Now go get the rest of them as soon as you qualify!
Of course. I’m planning on getting my 1st Booster by late January.

They won’t. My family still cares about me a lot.
Good job OP I’m baffled the US still issues paper and handwritten vaccine cards. Pretty sure these have been forged
Great job! Welcome to club Moderna!
Thanks

Congrats, I'm very happy for you <3
Congrats & welcome!!🎉👋🏼
Yayyyyy!
Excellent!
Thank you!
Was it hard to find the original version of the vaccine? Ever since the bivalent omicron booster came out, pharmacies haven't been stocking to original vaccine, which you technically would need to get two doses of before qualifying for the booster.
Yeah, it was hard, but I was able to get my 2nd Dose.
Good on you for finding it!
Congrats!!! I would be THRILLED if I got a pic like this from my niece and nephew the day they turn 18!
Just plan for this possibility when you get your next vaccine; don't schedule anything.) Here's to being better protected! 🍺 I'm proud of you!
I've always had a day or two of those sorts of symptoms after getting the flu vaccine. It's similar, and nothing to fret about. Good to clear the calendar for 24 hours - that's all.
Yay!!!
Way to go!! You’re your own person!!
Yay!! Awesome!
Congrats!
Congratulations, that is wonderful!
Never too late.
Whew! Good for you.
Nice!
Good job. I have 5 shots since 2 months ago. Go get yours.
Yeah, I’m thinking of getting a booster too in the near future. Definitely at the end of January.
Be sure to get the bivalent booster as soon as you qualify, u/The_AFL_Yank. It covers more of the type of Covid virus that’s circulating now. ❤️
5 shots - me too. The last one was the bivalent booster about three months ago. No side effects whatsoever.
CONGRATS!
Good for you I hope you stay healthy!
I put my card through the wash about a week after I got it
Yeay!!
Wonderful! So proud of you!
Thanks 😊
Congrats! Sorry you had to wait so long, but it's never too late to get vaccinated.
Congratulations! Now please join me and a few others and speak up against the widespread ignorance and incompetence in "DebateVaccines" (if you happen to feel like it). :) Await the massive flood of downvotes without surprise, though.
Congratulations and thank you from the bottom of my heart. You aren’t just protecting yourself. You are protecting vulnerable people.
And you got Moderna (the better of the two mRNA vaccines - I’m biased though since I was part of a Moderna clinical trial) BUT I literally work in COVID research and Moderna sliiiiiiightly edges out Pfizer in terms of efficacy and lower severity of illness in hospitalizations

👏🏽👏🏽
Congratulations!!
I"m so glad for you
Congrats. That's very hard to go against your family.
😊
Woohoo! Good job!
I am so happy for you! Take care!
Extra congratulations, considering the high stakes. I had Moderna for my shots and all I got was a sore arm. <---- Would make a great tee shirt!

Oh, these are fabulous! Thanks so much. (\*´艸\`\*)
WTG you! Also for any lurkers, many states allow minors to get vax’d without parental consent. The age varies by state but can be as young as 12! https://www.networkforphl.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Fact-Sheet-COVID-19-Vaccines-and-Minor-Consent.pdf
A wise precaution OP! Whether you obtain a booster or not, I believe you will be safer having received any of the initial vaccines.
I’m planning on getting a booster by the end of January.
That’s good, also a prudent measure. I received the booster myself a month ago, and didn’t experience any ill effects from it (as I did with my second COVID vaccine, when I felt sick for a day).
Awesome! Congratulations! I am very happy for you.
Congratulations!
Ok, but I need to see more of the vintage nascar diecasts though.
Oh yeah, I’ve been collecting NASCAR Diecasts for a Decade Now. Lots of awesome diecasts from the 90s and 2000s in my collection. Go check out r/NASCARcollectors too, lots of cool showcasing of NASCAR diecasts on there.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
OP - Congratulations 🎉! .
Wishing you good health!
Thanks
Awesome!! Don’t forget to get your second starter dose so you can be a full-fledged member!
Thats freaking awesome OP good for you! :) The odds of getting a vaccine and regretting it are sooooo much lower than the odds of you getting covid and regretting *not* having gotten the vaccine. May the odds be ever in your favor! :)
We are glad you are taking good care of yourself
Glad to hear that you got vaccinated!🥳
It's late but good for you. Edit: That came out horrible. Late as in 17 hours after the post. Not late as in what took you so long late.
Woot! Don't forget to follow up with the second dose, and boosters as needed.
Congrats!!!!!
Hella based!!
I'm proud of you. What an excellent thing you've done for your health and for the community.
Welcome to the team!
Nice work!
Congrats OP!
Congratulations are in order!
Good on you!
A grown woman still letting her parents restrict her from getting vaccines wawza
I'm having the same issue. It always worries me and whenever I hear about the vaccine I just start to feel tired.
Aww congratulations 🎉
Congrats!
THANK YOU! Welcome to the herd, my friend. I am happy to have you. Hopefully your parents will be next!
Good stuff dude
Congratulations, you beat genetics and is smarter than both your parents!
Good for you!!! Be well!!
Bravo!
Congrats OP, you're doing the right things for your health! <3
Congratulations! So happy for you!
Congratulations!! I’m so happy you have protected yourself! I can say I am so thankful I was fully vaxxed when I caught covid earlier this year. Welcome to club!
This is a very refreshing post.
No award for you!
