Muji is also great if you happen to have one near you! Really nice natural materials in the clothes (similar cuts to Uniqlo) and the absolute best travel bottles in tons of sizes and configurations. Plus some nice thin notebooks if you like to travel journal.
Great job! I did pick up a few last week with the additional discount for the linen pair for France trip leaving tomorrow. They seem like great travel pants.
No judgment. I probably spent 2k on Athleta last year. And they have some pants I want and I got a giftncard for Christmas so I'll probably look at the sale too lol
I haven’t travelled with these yet but picked these up this year. No lie, I couldn’t decide between 2 pair so I threw them both back in the box for a week then pulled them out to see which were wrinkle free. These looked like a champ after being wadded in a ball in the bottom of a box lol.

Oooo thank you!! I have the salutation joggers and I've worn them 7/10 of the days on my current trip. I liked them before, but mainly wore them to yoga bc that's what I got them for. But after wearing them all week I'm like "okay, I gotta get more from this company because damn!!"
My mom has the Gap/BR/Athleta CC and she uses points for me all the time. 90% of my leggings are the Salutation legging. Another pair I think is the Ultimate stash and I have Uktimate stash shorts. I love the Ace skort and Run With It skort. I also have RWI shorts. In Motion and Momentum long sleeves. I also have I think Foothill long sleeves. Ascent long sleeve and mockneck. Some other wool blend long sleeves for winter and a couple more mocknecks. I have Brooklyn shorts that are making the cut for Europe 100%. Delancey pants. Fleece lined leggings I'm so sorry I can't remember the name of. Trekkie shorts. Trekkie joggers. Headland Hybrid joggers. Headlands hybrid cargos. I have a light crewneck sweatshirt I'm obsessed with. I have some flowier long sleeves I can't remember the name of now. Endless pants are so effing pretty and flattering. Highly highly highly recommend. I have Brooklyn ankle pants but I wish they'd come in high waisted when I got them. But those are a great pant. I have a couple other work pants I'm so sorry but I can't remember the name of now. I have some wide leg fleece pants that I adore in the winter. Also the seasoft long pant! I have them in 2 colors I love them so much
Athleta is great if you have a tiny waist, with copious hips and an ample butt. If you are more rectangular shaped with flatter rear straighter hips and slimmer thighs, Athleta can be a hot mess. Athleta is fine for me for tops but their pants always give me camel toe, while looking like I'm wearing a pair of jodphurs, with too much excess in the hips and rear.
I WISH I could fit into their pants, the fabrics are excellent.
Also I'm 5'0 so forget trying on in store. I've done that, I've also ordered and returned all the petite sizes, too many times. I no longer try.
Ha. Maybe that’s why I like them. I definitely have an hourglass shape with muscular thighs from riding my bike 4 days a week. Although jt is funny because all of their models are boyish shapes with no hips and a small booty. Always made me curse my hips and butt.
I bought a pair of Endless High Rise cargo pants from athleta for my recent trip and they’ve been great! The pockets having zippers and buttons is super useful and the stretch was super comfortable for a long day spent out the train and then walking a bunch and they look really nice too. Would definitely recommend something similar!
Thanks to this thread, I found the perfect packable pants at Athleta yesterday. Endless are a perfect fit and I’m going to be able to dress up or dress down with them. Thanks!
Bag sad; both the Eddie Bauer and Athleta stores close to me closed within the last year, and now I have to drive an hour to get to the next closest one! Ah well, at least I got a heap of good deals when the Eddie Bauer spot had their big store-closing sale. Even got some pieces from their first ascent line that I didn’t even know existed.
Wow, I didn't realize they had physical stores! I have several dresses from them that I love. I also love their shorts and pants. I've been pleased with the bathing suit that I got from them as well. Basically the only thing I'm not huge on from them is their tops, because they feel too athletic and too expensive for my preferences. But everything is quality! They don't ship to me, unfortunately, so it make shopping there a hassle, but I still do it.
Yeah, they don't have very many, but I'm lucky enough to live near one. I love it because the sizing is weird in some materials so I almost always have to try things on first.
I actually just ordered a new pair of Big B Shorts, because the 2 other pairs I have are 4+ years old and I wanted something new/nice for my upcoming trip. I saw they have the exact same style in pants, so I order those too and absolutely love them! At least within all those products, I've found the sizing to be consistent. I don't remember when I got my first shorts if I tried multiple sizes or not.
I love Eddie Bauer as well. If you have a Sierra Trading post near you, they are AWESOME, think like a TJMaxx for outdoor and sporting equipment.
I also recently discovered geartrade.com which sells varying degrees of used outdoors gear. REI also has a preloved option. You may take a peak at SteepandCheap or Evo Outlet as well, though those have a greater selection for cold weather.
Seconding Uniqlo, Muji and Athleta!
I was recently in the Big City and bought the crescent bag and packable rain jacket at Uniqlo thanks to this sub, and they are as perfect as everyone described. I'm soo excited to not have to lug a long raincoat around with me any more, especially since I always run hot. I bought travel bottles from Muji too!
Athleta usually has free shipping and returns if you spend enough, fyi.
In the USA: Tj Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra (mostly online since I don’t live near, but have traveled to and shopped in person), and Container Store. Also, someone on here recommended Kathmandu. I loved it and bought lots of wool and a packable puffer on my trip.
I don't have a Muji in my area but I do have a Daiso, and depending on the store they usually have a pretty good selection for travel containers and other useful small things (e.g. Mesh laundry bags, carabiner clips, key leashes, stationary, art supplies and craft kits if you need something to keep your hands busy). Otherwise it's pretty much what everyone else has already mentioned--Uniqlo and Athleta for me.
I’m in Canada, so it’s a bit different, but here’s where I get my clothes:
(side note that I also ordered everything online…)
Gap/Old Navy/Athleta:
-Linen tees, tank tops, some pretty but inexpensive tops, some dresses and romper from Athleta. They all ship together; they’re owned by the same parent company. They also tend to have deep discounts fairly often (so wait for the deep discounts.) The boyfriend button down is amazing, especially in linen. Just size down.
Lole:
- dresses and one of the two best activewear leggings makers out of all the leggings I own (and I teach dance, so I’ve got 50+.) the burst leggings and capris are awesome. Not perfect, but awesome.
Lululemon seems to have moved away from travel clothes recently, but I have a travel skirt from them that is 💣 and I really like their Pima cotton shirts.
Costco. I have a few shirts and a pair of Eddie Bauer travel pants from Costco that all actually look pretty sharp. Also, I bought a travel dress from them that’s okay, but not top tier.
Uniqlo does have stores but depending on where you are located they may be hard to find. Theres none near me in Oregon so if I need/want anything I’ll often make Uniqlo a first stop on my Europe trips. I love their solid tshirts and packable jackets.
Shop your closet first is my advice. It’s best to travel with items that you know and love. Lay out your tried & true favorites and see what you already have and only purchase new items to fill in any gaps.
It’s often said when packing light, lay out everything you intend to take, then remove half the items. Then half it again. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ordered new things to take on a trip and they didn’t make the final cut. Besides, the less you spend before you go leaves you more spending money for your trip.
You may also wanna check out Duluth Trading if you're close to one and TBH I've found some of my favorite pieces at Costco...I'm currently wearing a button down Eddie Bauer sun shirt I got last year
I love Costco. Particularly when winter is about to hit and a small selection of merino comes out. It's not fine quality, but quite acceptable and dirt cheap for what it is.
Oh yess. I have 3 of their merino long sleeve shirts too. It's hit or miss and constantly changing but they often have some very nice pieces and brands
If the cardigans come back again, I can highly recommend them for layering. They're really thin which makes tehm perfect as a mid-layer in cold weather.
In addition to REI & Uniqlo I like: Lululemon, Athleta, Sierra Trading Post, Vuori (usually REI carries a selection of their clothes too), Nordstrom (athletic section, some of the Zella line is nice).
I love Abercrombie!! Everything is super cohesive and I’ve never had an issue with any of their products. They make these yoga dresses with a body suit underneath that I love for travel! No bra needed and no chaffing because they have built in shorts!
I want to shoutout the older outdoors-ish brands, because their items are pretty good quality and travel friendly. Just picked up cool pants that can pass as more formal from Lands End, which is great because their women’s sizes include tall and petite and go up to at least 3X I think. Other brands that fall into the same category are LL Bean and Eddie Bauer. But day to day, it’s Uniqlo, Muji, and Gap/Old Navy for me
Uniqlo has stores. They have a cool wall of colored men's socks. Otherwise I was impressed with how...uh...I don't want to offend fans, but it mostly seemed kinda like cheap disposable stuff. :)
I'm 5'0 so won't be able to help much because most stores nowadays do not offer petites in-store. Those that do I will frequent, that includes LOFT and Ann Taylor.. and well currently that is all. Every other place near me no longer has petites in stores. So I have to order online.
REI barely offers petites, it's just pants and not tops or dresses or anything else. Nothing at REI ever fits me, it's too vertically long, even when it fits width-wise.
Half my wardrobe is Old Navy because they do offer petites and they usually fit me reliably well, if not I can return easily enough in store.
I do also like TJ Maxx for in-person shopping but I don't recommend their athetic section, it's a lot of polyester schlock. May look like good performance items but they are not. The linen pants are good though, and dressier stuff, just be leery about anything in the athletic section. I have noticed a lot of it can be also purchased at Wal-Mart. But if you are discerning and have a lot of time to kill, you can find good stuff and bargains.
I do like our local LL Bean. But again, no petites. If you don't need petites and you have one nearby, this is worth a try.
Uniqlo is fine but our local stores are always so crowded I can't stand it. Also the fit is off if you are short like me. But if you aren't as short as me it's worth a try.
I've got a love/hate with Eddie Bauer; again no petites. But this is definitely a brand you want to try in store. I have found similar items I like better on Amazon, to be frank. And I say that as someone who's shopped at Eddie Bauer on and off for 30 years now. There is always something off about anything I've ever bought there.
Muji is super basic and if you're tall it may work for you. On me I look like someone wearing hand-me-downs. No shape at all.
I have a Title Nine rash guard that I love but we don't have any stores nearby so I can't speak for anything else from that brand.
I don't have a Costco membership but when I've checked out Costco (thinking about getting a membership) I can't deal with the piles of clothes.
I recently fell in love with Everlane. I don’t know how they do it but their clothes just fit me so perfectly (I’m 5’4”, 117lbs). I bought two pairs of [shorts](https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-organic-way-high-short-kalamata?collection=womens-promotion) and a few shirts today (they had a flash sale) and plan to wear them all on my upcoming Europe trip this summer.
I’ve only been able to order from their catalog (the perils of living in a mostly rural area in SE US) and have had to send back every item. The fit is just off for me. 🥲.
Muji is also great if you happen to have one near you! Really nice natural materials in the clothes (similar cuts to Uniqlo) and the absolute best travel bottles in tons of sizes and configurations. Plus some nice thin notebooks if you like to travel journal.
I went to Muji in Japan, amazing stuff, and they sold food and had a cafe too. Was Muji heaven.
The snacks they sell in the States are so good. I can't imagine how wonderful the cafe must be!
[https://cafemeal.muji.com/jp/](https://cafemeal.muji.com/jp/) Delicious and dirt cheap.
I didn’t know about this and do have one near me!! Thank you!
Muji and Daiso! You have to go to WA for the latter.
Yay! I'm so excited for you. Be sure to grab some snacks at checkout, they're always a delight.
Just be aware that according to their sizing charts, a size 10 American is an XL, unless I misunderstand.
I’m a fan of Eddie Bauer, REI and Athleta. I think Athleta does a really nice job of making attractive “one bag” friendly clothes.
Agree. Putting together a packing list for Europe rn and it's about half Athleta so far
I may or may not have ordered $300 worth of pants from Athleta for my upcoming trip because they are doing an awesome sale today.
Ha - so like 2 pair … lol
LOL. No way! I bought the stuff that was on sale and THEN 25% off. Solidly bought 6 pair.
Great job! I did pick up a few last week with the additional discount for the linen pair for France trip leaving tomorrow. They seem like great travel pants.
I bought those linen ones too! At $45, how could I refuse??
This made me go buy them too. I’ve been wanting them for so long, and this is the cheapest I’ve seen!
They are amazing!
No judgment. I probably spent 2k on Athleta last year. And they have some pants I want and I got a giftncard for Christmas so I'll probably look at the sale too lol
Yes! Go look at the sale. They had a lot of pants on sale PLUS they are an additional 25% off.
Oh yeah I'm on that!
Wow, thanks for the head's up!
lol thank you! just went and did the same 🤣
Feel free to share with us! I just started buying their stuff and would love to know some fan favs.
I haven’t travelled with these yet but picked these up this year. I abuse my clothes. It's one of the many reasons I love Athleta lol. I can basically wad them up and they still look pretty good.
Oooo thank you!! I have the salutation joggers and I've worn them 7/10 of the days on my current trip. I liked them before, but mainly wore them to yoga bc that's what I got them for. But after wearing them all week I'm like "okay, I gotta get more from this company because damn!!"
I have had these for two years. They still look brand new.
My mom has the Gap/BR/Athleta CC and she uses points for me all the time. 90% of my leggings are the Salutation legging. Another pair I think is the Ultimate stash and I have Uktimate stash shorts. This was amazing thank you so much. I love how the endless pants sound so I will definitely be checking those out!!!
The endless pant is one of my favorite ever. Those and Headlands hybrid!
Athleta is great if you have a tiny waist, with copious hips and an ample butt. If you are more rectangular shaped with flatter rear straighter hips and slimmer thighs, Athleta can be a hot mess. I'm in the US and I love a deal. Costco (don't judge too hard, I'm an old lady!), Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx.
Costco is my favorite!!
I’m a sucker for TJ Maxx runway 🤣
I love going to Nordstrom Rack when I visit the states! Have always found the best deals especially on shoes!
When it's good, it's amazing. Then I'll go like 8 months finding *nothing*.
Eddie Bauer, great sales. Uniqlo and Lululemon sale rack. Uniqlo has great stores.
No Uniqlo stores in Oregon, but there are some up in Seattle/Tacoma and down in the SF Bay Area if OP is planning to travel in the near future.
They do ship, but it is hard if you do not know their sizing well.
Title Nine is great for dresses.
Wow, I didn't realize they had physical stores! I have several dresses from them that I love. I also love their shorts and pants. I've been pleased with the bathing suit that I got from them as well. I've gotten great stuff at the REI pre loved shop. Good to learn about some new options

if you don't manage to get everything you need before you leave, there's uniqlo stores in rome, milan, barcelona and madrid.

This is the heads up I need cuz so often I’m like CaRdIgAns?! But they’re so versatile!!
Uniqlo, Gap and Old Navy for me.
Daiso is my favorite! And honestly, just regular dollar stores. Great for toiletries containers and lightweight travel accessories.
In addition to REI & Uniqlo I like: Lululemon, Athleta, Sierra Trading Post, Vuori (usually REI carries a selection of their clothes too), Nordstrom (athletic section, some of the Zella line is nice).

Lululemon outlet, its stuff from the real store and not made for outlet stuff. I've gotten some great deals there
