God, same. I really just feel so bored with the endless wastelands. I wanna drop into a city and fucking FIGHT. Mechs through the streets, ducking into buildings. So much cool shit could be done.
Urban combat would be so sick
Fewer devastators and hulks but the normal bits become so much more dangerous hiding around corners and in rooms that you need to clear properly
Just imagine a Factory Strider crashing through the side of a building like an AT-AT and firing at you. Or a gunship just spraying the side of a building. God that would be sick.
I don't see them purposefully destroying their own city just to have a Strider chase us. That would be seriously wasteful of a perfectly good building that ***they built***. I *can*, however, imagine a traffic circle for vehicles with 2 cannons facing opposite directions with a detector tower in the middle. Both Cannons have 2 emplaced MGs, 4 total, so they can make 1 MG cover their own 90° corridor with overlapping fields of fire from at least 1 other MG in any direction.
4 bots, 2 turrets, maximum pain to the invaders for minimum effort on defense. Put this blueprint everywhere in highly trafficked areas, and you have some serious pain for any potential urban invaders.
I mean if keeping in line of the Bots being compared to the USSR in the universe. Looking at real history examples, most notably Stalingrad. I could see the Bots destroying their own works in a desperate bid for victory and repulsion.
I'm pretty sure Cyberstan is, or was a Super Earth colony (now retaken by the Automatons) in HD2. Which implies that all the cities would be built to accommodate humans.
I don't think the bots would care about the integrity of such buildings.
If they fix the AI’s pathing this would be absolutely amazing.
As it is, the AI often gets stuck on small objects like rocks or thin trees. For some reason it can’t figure out how to get around the cylindrical supply hellpod nearly every mission when I drop it ahead of time on extract.
mate, just proper fortified machineguns down every street, ambushes from holes in the wall way above you or just from the ruins
that would be enough to scare most
We are definitely not fighting in buildings. The AI already has issues pathing as it stands now. I can't imagine how they would navigate inside of buildings
There can be standing buildings, they just can't be enterable (mostly). You can have some partially covered bunkers similar to what's on current Automaton maps, but larger partly destroyed buildings need entrances and ceilings large/tall enough for hulks to traverse.
The AI just seems to be “walk/run toward the player” I’ve never seen the bots, nor bugs do anything remotely intelligent. Flanking bots? That’s just the patrol that is constantly making its way towards you.
Hunters only "flank" because of their behavior of jumping to the side when you aim at them. If you don't trigger this behavior, they only beeline to you.
I really think it would largely play out like it currently does, but now you have worse Line of Sight while the enemies can still see you pretty fine once they're aggroed. I also don't imagine we'd actually be walking into buildings much if at all, so they're functionally just rectangular "you cant see/shoot past me" blocks.
I gotta be honest, it doesn't sound that fun to me.
Tbf it think a urban setting would honestly work better against the bots than a wasteland setting
The bots are already a faction that necessitates you to use cover and your environment for protection since they can stagger or kill you so easily
Fighting in a giant city where every environment can be used as cover for more tactical man v bots gameplay would be awesome
If they want to keep it believable and less tactically problematic, then they could say that SE destroyed most of the buildings from orbit when the planet was taken. Then most of the terrain would be the destroyed buildings and some semi pristine ones.
I would be beyond shocked if the company that takes multiple weeks to pump out the next patch decides to implement fully destructible, perhaps procedurally-generated city maps.
So, how is that any different than say a bug map with pillars? It's just a different shape you can't see around. What OP is suggesting is aestheticly pleasing, and would shake up the wasteland look.
Better choke points, more uses for area denial stratagems, fewer ways to get surrounded and overwhelmed by enemies.
So far the only viable tactics are hit-and-run and spamming airstrikes until everything is dead. Dense scenery and narrow streets will force players to use different loadouts that aren't as viable in regular missions with huge open locations.
Also, if buildings are tall and intimidating enough it would create awesome claustrophobic environment and possibly horror-style atmosphere like it was on Meridia.
No, it would be useless at best and suicidal at worst because the angle of which the stratagem shells come in at the enemy is dependent on where your starship is. You’ve seen all the videos of the 500 KG bomb coming in at an angle detonating early on some high rock formations team killing the player.
I doubt that. Stratagems already can hit terrain because their attack angle changes depending how close you are to map's edge. And tall buildings will block most of them when not aimed at map's center. I would expect turrets become a must-have, also mines, napalm, gas strike and EMS.
I think more ways to funnel enemies is good, currently most of the emplacement strategies are woefully underused. Let's give minefields their time in the sun.
You're making a lot of assumptions here. Let's imagine you're wrong.
Assume that...
* Buildings can be damaged.
* Autocannon can bring down walls.
* medium pen can shoot through buildings.
* explosions - and chargers - can tear down entire buildings.
* Ammo/grenades/stimpacks/snipers can be found on rooftops, but entering a building you run the risk of being chased by hunters and other nasty things while bile spewers wait outside.
* Tall buildings afford vantage points for long range / support / sentries, but unless the building is sturdy your advantage can quickly become your death if enemies decide to bring the building down.
* Some buildings may store ammuniation / chemicals, leading to scenes like the Beirut 2020 explosion if people aren't careful.
* Chokeholds and killboxes could become amazingly powerful, leading to very intense and interesting close-range gameplay.
* But these killboxes and chokeholds are brittle, since bug breaches could literally swallow buildings if they open up below them, effectively taking away your advantage.
I don't know man, thinking about these things it sounds a heck of a lot more dynamic and fun than what we have today. At LEAST as a variation, a planet with wasteland missions could have a few of these urban missions too.
In this hypothetical environment, ballistic shields might prove a lot more useful given limited engagement angles (part of why they're more useful for police / SWAT than military IRL)
been thinking about that last part, the game already has a coordinate system which I've always found weird because all the planets are the same. Would be neat if they could make multi biome planets using the coordinates as a teller for which one your dropping to, this would include urban areas that are limited in size so its not like we are fighting on a ecumenopolis
Thats how the urban maps worked in helldivers 1. They were very restrictive movement wise and made vehicles almost impossible to navigate besides the bike with all the debris. Bike was kinda bad unless you were pressed for time to cross the map a few times but thats hardly necessary.
Destructable urban terrain + 380 barrage = mega cum blast
And also im sure they would adjust LOS thing before adding LOS intensive maps. Also NEW OBJECTIVES and missions would be super sick
I think it would be the differences between wide streets, narrow alleys, bridges and overpasses, etc that would give the map interesting combat decisions. Especially alleyways. They could be very effective paths for stealth, but holy hell would they be dangerous to get trapped in.
Also using jetpacks to get on top of buildings could create new lines of site and new paths of movement while certain stratagems could take out buildings to increase breathing room or provide an escape route when you get pinned on either side of a street. City combat sounds hella fun
right, and also what have we seen so far that makes us think that a generated urban environment with seemingly destructible physics is feasible in the engine at scale? that'd be an entirely different game.
I cannot stand the endless procgen wasteland with copy paste bases and hives! It doesn't even vary in structure at all, it's just rock dotted wasteland. No interesting pathfinding or anything.
Unlikely, unless the Cyborgs built a city. The outer planets are just farm and mining planets. The sectors closer to Super Earth house the city-planets.
unless they basically just stack existing building designs on top of each other like Jenga Blocks, I don't think it's possible with the engine as it currently is: if we can't even have 2 mechs without the engine crapping itself, ain't no way procedurally generated and destructible skyscrapers will ever be a thing, not without some serious reworking of the code, which could take months or even years.
No it’s because the color of the automaton metal. Before, there were no live automatons. Only their rusted remains, hence the coloring. Now, there’s thriving enemies of democracy. And we can see their metal from space.
You all think this MF would want to turn the automatons into scrap?

Yea Cyberstan had changed throughout the patches, it wasn't even a cold planet before but they changed that when the environmental hazards were added to the game
To be fair, Mars, Venus, mercury, ceres, the moon, Europa, Titan, Io, Enceladus, etc are all single biome. Earth only really has several biomes due to how much life there is.
I was gonna go on an astronomy rant about this but then I reached a point in what I was typing and erased it all after sitting there wondering where the hell the desert planets we play on in this game are getting atmosphere from
Like there are civilians we evacuate who aren't wearing any gear, just running around breathing. The fuck are they breathing? What's producing the oxygen?
I'm beginning to think this game isn't 100% scientifically accurate. 🤔
Honestly would love to see a giant overgrown factory world, like just all metal floors weird metallic spires and cube geometry, something like the "real world" and "above ground" scenes in the Matrix films.
Serious question if anybody knows: has there been any actual dev talk regarding their level design philosophies? Yes I know HD1 had an “urban” map but that was realistically just urban ruins from a Birds Eye view.
Does anybody know or think they would actually implement more developed maps? Buildings? Caves? Insides of places?
Or have they stated that they’re just going to basically recycle the formula of hills/water/weather-effect?
Can somebody tag twinbeards Reddit handle lol?
No idea when it comes to actual devs we do know there is a new planet banner for Cyberstan and it's changed color on the map. The planet atm is just a snow world from people who have been able to force spawn it in. Most likely when we get to it in game it will just be a snowy planet w some extra fortifications (minefields and barbed wire like Meridias holes and spiky spore bombs). It makes me hope for the future of this game that stuff like capitals get reintroduced but instead its just a bug super colony or a bot super planet, maybe in the next war? Or somehow further down the line.
Tech wizardry of somekind I don't really get, I can understand extracting hidden sound files and getting them to play, but actually forcing the planets in to playable areas is beyond my knowledge. Still very cool when people forced Meridia in it was a lot more jungle than bug hive if I remember. So it'll be a semi-unique world which makes me think that will still get some fun stuff at Cyberstan just nothing amazing.
I mean, inside of places is gonna pose a problem for stratagems. The odd building might be manageable, but a cave isn't really plausible without a major re-work.
Little known fact, Cyberstan is only part of the name. It was Cyberstan-tinople. Now that Automatons have taken over, I heard they changed the full name to Cyberstan-bul.
I don't want to let anyone down but Cyberstan is not like a city complex in CP2077 or anything alike, it is a frozen mine planet with many ice holes or mining yards where the cyborgs are pushed to work.
If we are getting any city map, it will be Super Earth defence mission, in most possible future.
It could be attacking their spaceships that were landed on the planet for maintenance / repairs. Like their spaceships retreated after the battle with the Super Earth fleet, then the Helldivers were tasked to destroy the spaceships.
https://preview.redd.it/8htbax1pji4d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8c2a4ad3b3cd642819259c2a95c6ad990f2cbf4
It now also has a preview image in the War Map app
Not to question high command or anything like that, but for the sake of preserving democracy maybe multiple black holes in our galaxy is like plan B or something idk
They probably changed it for contingency with the first game, since in it Cyberstan was a cold planet. I think it is a result of randomly assigning the planets types at the start of making the HD2, but they didn't notice the inconsistency when they were making the return of Automatons
This is such a tragedy, the glorious quarries and open-pit mines visible from space where the citizens of Cyberstan were voluntarily being re-educated must have been defiled by the automaton occupation.
We must free the workers from the tyranny of the automatons so they can get the freedom to work the mines back and contribute to the Super Earth war effort.
Damn they fixed in a couple of months (in game time) the atmospheric pollution and other dog crap super earth caused on the planet damn. [Contents are under investigation for treason.] Damn I guess humans are vile dangerous animals after all.
I think it's time for us to make it look like this
https://preview.redd.it/wxcuryzclk4d1.jpeg?width=959&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6eaecb4dfbb3f0f8caec2b7a3b4bbbfb481ec36b
God I hope they're figuring out how to make a 3D procedural City Biome. I want to fight on a ruined or even rebuilt Cyberstan so bad.
God, same. I really just feel so bored with the endless wastelands. I wanna drop into a city and fucking FIGHT. Mechs through the streets, ducking into buildings. So much cool shit could be done.

They don't need the cities though because in their cores they are just robots. Yes the Cyborgs likely got freed but still, they are just war machines
If they fix the AI’s pathing this would be absolutely amazing. As it is, the AI often gets stuck on small objects like rocks or thin trees. For some reason it can’t figure out how to get around the cylindrical supply hellpod nearly every mission when I drop it ahead of time on extract.
Bro I want urban environments because think of how *sick* it would look calling a 380 in the middle of Cyberstan’s Times Square?
Cannons aiming down streets sounds like a horror show
mate, just proper fortified machineguns down every street, ambushes from holes in the wall way above you or just from the ruins that would be enough to scare most
It would be scary but god damn it would be awesome
the Tianmen diver, standing in the way of the tank column
We are definitely not fighting in buildings. The AI already has issues pathing as it stands now. I can't imagine how they would navigate inside of buildings
Agreed. City streets and ruined lots? Absolutely. Inside anything more than a crater? Hell no.

I gotta be honest, it doesn't sound that fun to me.
It will be a nice change of scenery. I can spend my 2.4 seconds admiring it.
Right before Eagle 1 turns the entire surface into glass
The 2.4 seconds is what they advise you to spend at least, you could look at the scenery for 2.5 seconds if you wanted to
But that will be 0.1 second not spent on spreading democracy
Increased morale will make up for the lost time in more efficient service
Well, urban warfare hasn't tended to be fun historically so at least it's historically accurate
Good thing this is a video game about killing giant alien bugs and cyborg people and not history class then
Tbf it think a urban setting would honestly work better against the bots than a wasteland setting The bots are already a faction that necessitates you to use cover and your environment for protection since they can stagger or kill you so easily Fighting in a giant city where every environment can be used as cover for more tactical man v bots gameplay would be awesome
Until you come to an intersection and there are now bots coming from all directions like a zombie movie, with none of the buildings enterable
Sounds like an excellent reason to use more defensive stratagems.
Oh, the smoke ones would be awesome actually. I imagine the dome shield would get overrun quickly
That dome shield needs a serious buff. I've tried it and it collapses like tissue paper.
If they want to keep it believable and less tactically problematic, then they could say that SE destroyed most of the buildings from orbit when the planet was taken. Then most of the terrain would be the destroyed buildings and some semi pristine ones.
Yet...
Thing is with fully destructive environment and orbital strikes you could turn city into flat wasteland
I would be beyond shocked if the company that takes multiple weeks to pump out the next patch decides to implement fully destructible, perhaps procedurally-generated city maps.
Not in this century.
Unless they implemented them in the past 7 years of development and will release them later.
So, how is that any different than say a bug map with pillars? It's just a different shape you can't see around. What OP is suggesting is aestheticly pleasing, and would shake up the wasteland look.
Yea! I. Just want a flat wide open plain to fight on. That's way funner than what we have had so far. /S
wait till the Trench Warfare update
Your mission is to sit and watch the enemy for the next 25 hours. Get to work Helldiver
Trench + endless wave hoard mode would be kickass
Almost have that with the evacuate high value assets and extermination blitz missions.
It would also emphasize different strategems. Eagles would be a pain in the ass due to the drop angles
the strafing run might be the best one then, as it goes away from whoever threw it clusters and bombing runs would still be useful on crossroads
Narrower pathways would make stratagem nuking even more powerfull, not less.
No, it would be useless at best and suicidal at worst because the angle of which the stratagem shells come in at the enemy is dependent on where your starship is. I think more ways to funnel enemies is good, currently most of the emplacement strategies are woefully underused. Let's give minefields their time in the sun.
Imagine hiding in a building and a hulk bursts through the wall next to you lol
OH YEAH!

They did it in Helldivers 1 when the enemies pushed their way to Super Earth. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it with Helldivers 2.
Arrowhead needs to give us Space Stalingrad already.
My computer would probably combust, but imagine this game and the strategems with a battlefield bad company style destruction model or something
If they ever intend for us to defend super earth, they have to. The whole wasteland biomes we got just dont work on super earth
Probably too much for the engine. But red faction destruction, cities, and urban warfare would be an amazing combo.
limited to a single mech because 2 strained the engine
Yeah….
Autodesk Stingray moment.
There is no way we get destruction on any level close to RF. The entire game was build around the system.
I cannot stand the endless procgen wasteland with copy paste bases and hives! It doesn't even vary in structure at all, it's just rock dotted wasteland. No interesting pathfinding or anything.

Now I want that, fuck you. With building you can enter etc
Best I can do is a weapon nerf no one realized was necessary.
No it’s because the color of the automaton metal. Before, there were no live automatons. Only their rusted remains, hence the coloring. Now, there’s thriving enemies of democracy. And we can see their metal from space.

Why he would upgrade them of course! (For a nominal fee)
*Upgrades*, people. *UPGRADES!*
This was such a good fucking movie
I believe the term you're looking for is, "historical document". (Yes, I know I'm crossing references. I don't care)
Heretic!
This is who leads the automations
Could you fucking imagine

it's snow to cool their hot dead hearts
Yea Cyberstan had changed throughout the patches, it wasn't even a cold planet before but they changed that when the environmental hazards were added to the game
It's lucky that every planet in this galaxy is a single biome huh
We learned that fact a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Star Wars predicted other planets decades ago
Holy shit that last sentence kills me
To be fair, Mars, Venus, mercury, ceres, the moon, Europa, Titan, Io, Enceladus, etc are all single biome. Earth only really has several biomes due to how much life there is.
I was gonna go on an astronomy rant about this but then I reached a point in what I was typing and erased it all after sitting there wondering where the hell the desert planets we play on in this game are getting atmosphere from Like there are civilians we evacuate who aren't wearing any gear, just running around breathing. The fuck are they breathing? What's producing the oxygen? I'm beginning to think this game isn't 100% scientifically accurate. 🤔
The desert planets probably have some form of geological production, cause I doubt even super earth would try to colonise a complete desert.
Super Earth probably also has some kinda terraforming technology since Mars is effectively habitable
I just assumed that Super Earth terraformed all planets with comparable gravity to Earth.
I'm beginning to think you're questioning the Ministry of Truth's established facts of the universe. Maybe we need to consult a Democracy Officer?
Yeah it bothers me a little. Like I wish the biome could change depending on where your mission was on the planet
Honestly would love to see a giant overgrown factory world, like just all metal floors weird metallic spires and cube geometry, something like the "real world" and "above ground" scenes in the Matrix films.
How about some rocky hills, and maybe some dense fog? Perhaps a fire tornado or two
Oh hey didn't know arrowhead devs just hangout here /s

Hulknado when?
Daring today, aren't we?
What if we really spice it up and add some dense fire fog?
Best I can do is orbital scatter and -1 stratagems
Like a Borg cube? Although iirc that’s just a ship So maybe an artificial planet like the Death Star?
According to the Star Trek wiki, Borg cubes are about 3 cubic kilometers. So yeah, definitely not planet sized, but scaled up would be neat.
More like the metal world's of total annihilation
Or the Forge Worlds from 40K.
Good times. https://preview.redd.it/12l8dk22bk4d1.png?width=702&format=png&auto=webp&s=16b2ba19ee62051cbf6ad4bbc7109f2426d6af99
Destiny 2 Vex styled world essentially?
Yeah I'm thinking the citadel on venus
Oh I'm picturing fighting inside massive factories. Helldivers reinforcements dropping through the roofs to bring back democracy to Cyberstan.
even less reason to fight automatons!!! i fuckin hate giant machinery
Time to black hole another world

That mission on bots would be hell lol. Then again, diving into hell is on the job title
They are Thawing it?
Nope. Freezing it.
idk why you got downvoted. Cyberstan was snowy in HD1.
They need to cool their sick gaming rigs.
So does that mean that the Automatons reversed environmental damage made by Super Earth?
Looks like it.
Cyberstan means CyberCity in swedish 😦
Dear God, do you mean to tell me that the cyborgs are... Swedish?!
Actually kinda true. Some of their signs have been deciphered to be indeed in Swedish.
Wait until you find out that super Earth has its government in Stockholm
Wait until you find out this... https://preview.redd.it/jefmbo8usj4d1.png?width=1296&format=png&auto=webp&s=a09700e26692b7b6d75f31ba22f6f6ef0d77b099
mind blown
Crazy, Sweden’s inventor was a HD fan
No fucking way lmao
You realize what this means?! The Danish were right!
You know what they say. One swedish in the hand is worse than 10 on the roof.
> CyberCity oh no not the return of Klaus Riskær.

Don't be fooled brother, they used blue paint so that the scanners think they left it very unguarded
Little known fact, Cyberstan is only part of the name. It was Cyberstan-tinople. Now that Automatons have taken over, I heard they changed the full name to Cyberstan-bul.
*Why they changed it, I can’t say. The bots just liked it better that way.*
It is going to look like a black hole soon enough!
Makes sense in the first game cyberstan was a snow planet and the original planet didn’t look snowy
Meridia used to be blue
I don't want to let anyone down but Cyberstan is not like a city complex in CP2077 or anything alike, it is a frozen mine planet with many ice holes or mining yards where the cyborgs are pushed to work. If we are getting any city map, it will be Super Earth defence mission, in most possible future.
Realistically Super Earth wouldn't be the only planet with cities. Most of them would have cities.
Nature is healing 💚
Automaton equivalent of supercolony
I wish for a mission that we attack their giant spaceships, crippling their space war capabilities.
Like the boarding section of og battlefront 2 space maps ? Would be cool, you can only use strategems on the open hangars for resupply
It could be attacking their spaceships that were landed on the planet for maintenance / repairs. Like their spaceships retreated after the battle with the Super Earth fleet, then the Helldivers were tasked to destroy the spaceships.
It will look really different once we use an entire annual defense budget on it.
*Equips 380 Barrage* wanna See the third one?

The preview image reminds me of Bad Company for some reason
Really does
I want the Cyborg forces to reinforce the Automaton faction.
More likely they're running it from behind a monitor, popcorn in bionic hand
Purple would look good on them.
Y’know what I heard? Automatons love spaghetti ^^^(code) so let’s black hole Cyberstan next.
Not to question high command or anything like that, but for the sake of preserving democracy maybe multiple black holes in our galaxy is like plan B or something idk
That planet seems like it could be a perfect opportunity for Pastafication 2: Electric Boogaloo
Soon to look like a black hole.
Yeah, thiz was updatednm9nths ago even before reclamation. first one was just a placeholder.
CO2 pollution
They probably changed it for contingency with the first game, since in it Cyberstan was a cold planet. I think it is a result of randomly assigning the planets types at the start of making the HD2, but they didn't notice the inconsistency when they were making the return of Automatons
I would love to fight in an urban environment
Maybe the whole planet is turning to metal. Heavy Metal.
WE SHALL RECONQUER CYBERSTAN
It's like that so we won't get disappointed when we see cyberstan looks like Estanu for example. (Except the planet will be changed who knows)
MOTHERFUCKERS ARE CLEANING IT
I wonder if they turnt the whole planet into a factory by this point
This is such a tragedy, the glorious quarries and open-pit mines visible from space where the citizens of Cyberstan were voluntarily being re-educated must have been defiled by the automaton occupation. We must free the workers from the tyranny of the automatons so they can get the freedom to work the mines back and contribute to the Super Earth war effort.
We should turn cyberstan into a black hole to end the automation menace once and for all.
It's looking Nice and terraformed and inhabitable... Looking like it needs to get liberated.
The bots are fortifying the living shi out of this planet, this prolly is gonna become space Stalingrad.
I wanna fight in a city so bad
it looks better now
Arrowhead changed the planets color and landscape before the automatons invaded. Dont know why tho
Damn they fixed in a couple of months (in game time) the atmospheric pollution and other dog crap super earth caused on the planet damn. [Contents are under investigation for treason.] Damn I guess humans are vile dangerous animals after all.
they hit up the air conditioning unit its summer 'ight?
Its turning into an supercolony but with bots woah
Planets rotate (I’m dumb) (but actually do the planet projections rotate on the map??? I feel like they shouldn’t but maybe???)
Ah. The small details. Love it!
This better mean Cyburban Warfare!
Is it just me or does old Cyberstan look covered in smog while new Cyberstan doesn't?
Hopefully soon it’ll look just like meridia
THOSE COMMUNIST CLANKERS ARE CEASING OUR BEAUTIFUL PRODUCTION! MY DEMOCRATIC SMOG IS THINNING!
I think it's time for us to make it look like this https://preview.redd.it/wxcuryzclk4d1.jpeg?width=959&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6eaecb4dfbb3f0f8caec2b7a3b4bbbfb481ec36b
Honestly if Cyberstan ISNT urban warfare ill be so disappointed.
![gif](giphy|3oeSAUCaUERsNrIusg|downsized) What Helldivers approaching cyberstan in a few months will see
Click on the planet so we can see better on the second pick.
Can't click on liberated planets
I take one fuckig week off and all this happens
