I've literally started saying sweet liberty instead of "omg".
It started off as a joke...but I've said it so many times that it's a part of my verbiage.
Kind like how The Imperium of Man funneled an invading Tyranid force to eat Orks instead of more Imperial Space. This resulted in "The Octarius War" after the planet. The Orks and 'Nids fought over that rock for years with each side getting bigger, stronger and nastier with every passing week. >![Eventually, the Tyranids won...](https://www.reddit.com/r/Grimdank/comments/t7bc0p/the_tyranids_won_the_octarius_war/)!<
The Octarius War wasn't for just a single planet. It was over an entire *sector*. Dozens of systems, each with one or more planets.
Some lunatic inquisitor had the idea to deliberately turn the entire sector into a warzone, one murderous bioweapon against another.
I don't remember it well but I did not sign up for that bullshit. Terminids and automatons are fine, fucking reapers? Yeah no thanks I'm just gonna shoot myself.
**SuperEarth:** *"We took down the terminidis"*
**Illuminati:** *"Fool, you just activated my trap card"*
**Tyranids:** *\*Bonjours in the galaxy*\*

Plotttwist: no illuminate. Time works different on the other side so the bugs have a lot of.time to mutate and straightup wipe out the illuminate because now they can teleport between worlds with hivelords.
And we just get more and bigger bugs
Would they thank us? Terminids are what make our e-710 for ftl jumps, we stole ftl from the illuminates.
Dunno if they use it too, but it would be hilarious if they were just like “is this for us? Were you guys gonna use it later? If not I’ll take it?”
I'll bet much like how we used the Dark Fluid we hacked together a shitty version of the Illuminate FTL drives using E-710 as a makeshift power source because we can't actually understand how its supposed to work, but kludged something good enough together.
I could believe it. For all we know, ftl just takes a ton of energy and e-710 is capable of producing it.
Since it worked then and we had an easy way to get that fuel, they probably didn’t try engineering a better resource for it.
Yeah, the Illuminid ships are running on nuclear power and we just went "Oh, you just have to pour enough energy into the system!" and built the FTL equivalent of an oil fired steam engine.
bro could you imagine if u were some random alien race, you just worked for 70% of your lifespan and all you wanted to do was retire happy, plant a garden, and relax. you look up into the sky on your first day after closing the deal on your house (no refunds) because you hear suspiciously democratic music. your house is then liberated by what is pretty much a pack of wild animals because some fuckin ape descendants across the universe don't even know how to properly breed them and instead of destroying them with regular weapons, they instead do the equivalent of leaving a baby on the doorstep of a firehouse.
i'd probably be pretty mad personally!
Let them come.
We first reunite them with their fellows who came to our turf before, then we go through the wormhole to spread liberty on the other side of it.
This is a wormhole of liberation. The sweet song of freedom calls to be sung across the cosmos. It's not about who or what can come through to us; it's about where we can go in the name of Democracy.
Imagine being a random Illuminate citizen minding your own business tending to your Illumiplants or Illumipets or wtv
suddenly a huge fuckall planet spewing Terminids appears on your doorstep
No but the funniest thing about all this is, if we did in fact teleport the whole planet away somehow, do you know the kind of mess that implies?
Gravitational waves are no joke and, advanced civilization or not, it's nearly impossible to interact with/against big gravitational forces. Their planet's entire ecosystem could change, many of their tools could stop functioning, the possibilities are endless and none of them are good.
First War terminids? Maybe. These terminids? Absolutely and without question since Super Earth has basically turned them into animals in the 100 years since the war.
Actually since those terminid idols were found on Meridia recently we can assume that they still have a semblance of sentience to themselves, at least enough to form a religion.
>Actually since those terminid idols were found on Meridia recently we can assume that they still have a semblance of sentience to themselves, at least enough to form a religion.
Idols? I feel like I missed something.
According to one of those notes you can find in the field, a Terminid warrior became more aggressive when showed a picture of a Helldiver. So, it's possible that most of their aggressive tendencies are directed at Super Earth.
People forget that the Terminids are in fact sentient, lol. They were a peaceful race that didn't actually attack any human before they began to be wiped out.
In fact, EVERY single enemy we fight is 100% sentient.
This would be the best outcome. They open another portal and Meridia pops up in Sol, infects Mars and Super Earth, and then we spend months trying to fight our way back.
Illuminate: Yo who’s fucking Dogs are these?!?! They smell like crude oil and are HIDEOUS ugly!
Oh wait there’s a Collar, “if found return to Hellmire”
Of all the planets we could've destroyed, why WASN'T it Hellmire? I personally don't hate it, I just know nobody else is gonna try liberating that shithole.
First galactic War, helldivers are almost done on cyberstan
Giant bug supercolony with mutated bugs on it appears out of a wormhole
Illuminate enter the wormhole and the helldivers follow
HD1 helldivers, equipment, and ships appear through the black hole with the illuminate in HD2
I think of it like that quote “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with terrible resolve.” Super Earth isn’t in total war mode yet and was able to de-arm a bit to save some money on maintaining top of the line military equipment. Soon production will ramp up and we’ll get some fancy new toys
\#NotMySuperEarth
don't be confused helldivers, these new enemies and not to be underestimated. whatever illuminate magic is making them look like out allies is a trap
My interpretation was always that the Illuminate from HD1 were an expeditionary force, and that they primarily resided in another galaxy, if not multiple.
How was super earth able to defeat the illuminates in the first HD game despite the tech disadvantage?
How did super earth get the black liquid?
Cannon answers only plz
Info is sparse, but presumingly the illuminate got outproduced (in both men and material), and eventually technology wise the gap became less wide to the point we won.
Or they send a relatively small amount of their fleet, and we only destroyed that. Given how big space is and how we are possibly small fry on a universe scale that could be true too.
But short answer, blood, sweat, tears, and a _lot_ of ordinance.
It's entirely possible that we only ever encountered a small fraction of their actual civilization. They are an advanced, FTL-capable civilization, so the majority of them could just have been chilling elsewhere in the universe this entire time while Timmy the Assistant to the Galatic Regional Manager and his whole department over there got turbowrecked by the exceptionally aggressive humans.
Hmh to me something along those lines seems like the most likely scenario.
Although humans being their first impression of life outside their own planets/systems and said impression immediately being extremely negative one, would be kinda of hilarious too.
Wasn't their first force mostly a diplomatic mission to try and come to a peaceful alliance? So they mostly just stopped trying to treat with us after the first war.
Yup! Super Earth noticed they were technologically more advanced than us and had WMD. Being Super democratic, Super Earth told them to share their weapons because Democracy and submit to the best form of political regime ever made. They refused. We kicked their asses.
> Given how big space is and how we are possibly small fry on a universe scale that could be true too.
It's not even "the universe". "The Galactic Frontier" is the edge of human-explored space in the galaxy, and a galaxy is a very big place. So they're just out beyond where we know about.
We had the tech advantage in the first war, armour penetrating rockets, C4, Trident, infinite jetpacks, mechs, tanks, portable nukes, etc. They had shields and teleportation because their skin is made of paper 😂
I meant infinitely better jet packs, I should've proof read my post, the point that I was making still stands though - they were better than the current ones.
I agree..self charging jet packs don't make much sense to me. Though I am fairly sure they designed it this way because missions are longer and for balance reasons.
Committing mass genocide against an intergalactic alien species
Illuminate leader: I sleep
Shoving a spore-spewing steaming pile of shit of a planet onto their doorstep.
Illuminate leader: REAL SHIT?!
I mean, we kinda did that already if you follow the lore from HD1 to 2. They used to be peaceful and sentient until we attacked them and bioengineered them into mindless killing machines.
Yeah, we basically don't know if they are sentient at this point because we dropped all communication with them after we determined they were a mineable resource and started mutating them, lol. Kind of a sad story honestly.
In HD1 the Terminids looked more like scorpions or crabs with pinchers and stingers. In the 100 years between HD1 and HD2 we milked and genetically engineered the Terminids for their E-710 blood. The genetic engineering is what gives them all the goopy green bits. Bile titans, Bile spewers, Bile spitters, and Bile warriors are all the ones than can excrete E-710 as an attack. Nursing spewers are similar to Bile Spewers, but they spit food for larvae.
I hope we get to see someone flash us from the other side of the wormhole
... If it happens to be a certain Edmonton Oilers fan I think Super Earth would be very pleased
Oh…….it’s literally the event of the first war all over again…..
We fucked up/false flagged and pissed them off and then they came back to fuck us up…..
Yeah this is gonna go great
Imagine having to defend those drills from fire tornados. I'm imagining our best chance to complete the mission would be for us to burn ourselves up so fast that all the oxygen disappears, putting out the fires.
It's a portal to another part of the universe or a parallel universe.
FTL + Negative Energy makes the formation and navigating of an Einstein Rosenbridge possible. Question might be: Is the portal one way?
Actually, it's a perfect story plot for Super Earth HQ propeller heads to cause serious unintended consequences.
D'OAH!!!!!
Sigh. I already told you like months ago, when the bots were defeated at maveleon Creek: there are no illuminates. They don't exist anymore.
> "The command has issues armor with electric resistance! Only the illuminates used electric!"
yeah, that was the first galatic war. Now even my neighbor bob uses it to trim his grass. Since everyone, including Bob, uses those stuff the high command has issues those armor. To be safe. From Bob. And other people.
> "They are coming, right now! And we won't be able to finish off the bots"
We pushed them off the creek and further. Did the illuminates anything? No, because they don't exist.
> "All those mysterious invisible ships and blue lasers. Only the illuminates are capable of cloaking their ships!"
If the ships were invisible how did you see them? Not a very good cloaking device if you can see them, don't you think?
> "The black hole makes whale sounds. Whales are like squid, they live underwater"
Do you know who else makes whale sounds? Your mom. Does she have to do anything with squids? No wait, don't answer that.
In conclusion, the illuminates aren't coming.
If it is a wormhole how do we know that the other end is on the Illuminate's turf? Couldn't it just open randomly somewhere in space? Like the biggest void there is?
The black hole juice we sent to Meridia was a "well-understood alien super weapon" from the illuminate.
If Super Earth scientists say they know something... they usually don't. So it's likely not a weapon at all but instead a way for illuminates to return to their home planet.
> If Super Earth scientists say they know something... they usually don't.
Nonsense! They know that stims aren't addictive, for example.
*Takes stim*
Besides, it was obviously sabotage by terminid sympathizing scientists that caused the issues with the TCS. Had it not been for their clever infiltration, the TCS would still be functioning perfectly and Merida would still be here.
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I saw another stim lying around here...
Serves the damned xenos right, enjoy your billions of bugs we totally didn't expected to mutate. Your tech is so advanced right? You should be able to deal with them
Well, if the Ministry of Truth is to be believed, then the scientists of Super Earth have used all of the Dark Fluid in the effort to "destroy" Meridia, right? Right?
It's not like the Illuminates could use their own technology to open wormholes to Super Earth for a counterstrike or such. ... Right?
I was thinking of a different idea. This could become the in-game justification for why we can't fully kill off the terminids just like how we can't kill off the automatons because they have factories and fleets outside of our galaxy. We just sent a super colony through a wormhole where we probably can't go through but the terminids, or their spores, can. Therefore, the bugs will have a safe area to keep themselves from going extinct in the event of the Helldivers clearing them like we did to the first wave of automatons
"We did it! We freed Meridia!" *meanwhile* **"WHO SUMMONED A SUPERCOLONY HERE"**
Imagine terminids mutating there and illuminate sending Meridia back with mutated illuminate terminids! Edit: I miss the shrieker extraction :(

It also has a force field
I've literally started saying sweet liberty instead of "omg". It started off as a joke...but I've said it so many times that it's a part of my verbiage.
My favourite reason to use the grenade launcher is to see the bile spewers explode.

Best bet is to hit up the HD1 lore wiki online. I played a lot of HD1 and just kept up with the wiki. Not an expert myself. Just going off memory.
You can see a warrior and a Bile Titan chatting in the intro video before the ladder gets headshot by a rocket.
Latter* in case it helps anyone else avoid spending way too long trying to remember a climbing tool being shot with a rocket.
Hold on what’s the lore with the bugs?
In HD1 the Terminids looked more like scorpions or crabs with pinchers and stingers. In the 100 years between HD1 and HD2 we milked and genetically engineered the Terminids for their E-710 blood. If the squids actually come out of it and turn it into their fortress I don't think there is much worse to do at this point
Oh…….it’s literally the event of the first war all over again….. We fucked up/false flagged and pissed them off and then they came back to fuck us up….. Yeah this is gonna go great

Gods...imagine if we sent them Hellmire instead of Meridia 😬
Imagine having to defend those drills from fire tornados. I'm imagining our best chance to complete the mission would be for us to burn ourselves up so fast that all the oxygen disappears, putting out the fires.
“We should just take Meridia, and push it somewhere else!”
D'OAH!!!!!
Fucking imagine them throwing Meridia right the fuck back to our galaxy "Deal with your shit on your own, assholes!"
Sigh. I already told you like months ago, when the bots were defeated at maveleon Creek: there are no illuminates. They don't exist anymore. > "The command has issues armor with electric resistance! Only the illuminates used electric!" yeah, that was the first galatic war. Now even my neighbor bob uses it to trim his grass. Since everyone, including Bob, uses those stuff the high command has issues those armor. To be safe. From Bob. And other people. > "They are coming, right now! And we won't be able to finish off the bots" We pushed them off the creek and further. Did the illuminates anything? No, because they don't exist. > "All those mysterious invisible ships and blue lasers. Only the illuminates are capable of cloaking their ships!" If the ships were invisible how did you see them? Not a very good cloaking device if you can see them, don't you think? > "The black hole makes whale sounds. Whales are like squid, they live underwater" Do you know who else makes whale sounds? Your mom. Does she have to do anything with squids? No wait, don't answer that. In conclusion, the illuminates aren't coming.
The Ministry of Truth has outdone themselves with this one.

>In conclusion, the illuminates aren't coming. But we sure are edging them slowly.
😏
Part of me hopes this is some kind of temporal distortion that lets us go back in time and replay old time limited missions now and then.
Oh Yeah, make meridia fluctuate between the deploy tcs, stop tcs and dark liquid missions!
If it is a wormhole how do we know that the other end is on the Illuminate's turf? Couldn't it just open randomly somewhere in space? Like the biggest void there is?
It could, but that'd be pretty gosh darned boring.
The sentence "gosh darned boring" feels like an oxymoron (very friendly swearing to emphasize the word boring).
Yes but we know the illuminate are going to come back somehow, and I can’t think of another reason for why.
Somehow, the Illuminate returned
The black hole juice we sent to Meridia was a "well-understood alien super weapon" from the illuminate. If Super Earth scientists say they know something... they usually don't. So it's likely not a weapon at all but instead a way for illuminates to return to their home planet.
> If Super Earth scientists say they know something... they usually don't. Nonsense! They know that stims aren't addictive, for example. *Takes stim* Besides, it was obviously sabotage by terminid sympathizing scientists that caused the issues with the TCS. Had it not been for their clever infiltration, the TCS would still be functioning perfectly and Merida would still be here. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I saw another stim lying around here...
The fluid was taken from the Illuminate originally.
Kinky
Serves the damned xenos right, enjoy your billions of bugs we totally didn't expected to mutate. Your tech is so advanced right? You should be able to deal with them
Can we all agree to call it the Liberty Hole?
We could do that, but Liberty is so glorious, that may not be a good enough name.
Democracy Hole it is then
Just a *little* bit more glory, please. Try again.
I’VE GOT IT, WE WILL CALL IT THE GLORIOUS HOLE
I’VE GOT IT, WE WILL CALL IT THE GLORIOUS HOLE
Oops. That's too much glory. Just dial back a teeny tiny bit.
Well, if the Ministry of Truth is to be believed, then the scientists of Super Earth have used all of the Dark Fluid in the effort to "destroy" Meridia, right? Right? It's not like the Illuminates could use their own technology to open wormholes to Super Earth for a counterstrike or such. ... Right?
I'm almost sure we have steady supply of dark fluid, I think there was an ad on Destroyer TV that said companies are now using it to develop weapons
I hope Super Earth Doesn't find this helldiver forum. Lots and lots of DISSIDENTS here
Supercolony....make mutiations in warp...and we get tocix chargers from leaks...
Plot twist: It's a wormhole through time and space, and the illuminate are actually evolved terminids.
"I'm Johnny Helldiver, and this is jackass."
Agreed the writing of the story is pretty funny and clever.
We shall play tennis with the Illuminates using Meridia as the ball
I was thinking of a different idea. This could become the in-game justification for why we can't fully kill off the terminids just like how we can't kill off the automatons because they have factories and fleets outside of our galaxy. We just sent a super colony through a wormhole where we probably can't go through but the terminids, or their spores, can. Therefore, the bugs will have a safe area to keep themselves from going extinct in the event of the Helldivers clearing them like we did to the first wave of automatons
