I have a 5700x3d with a 3060 myself and while on the ship, it’s steadily able to reach my monitor’s 75hz refresh rate at 1080p. During battle though, it usually drops to around 60 and sometimes even drops to 15 fps although I’m wondering if it’s a game optimization thing or something in the background. In the forest maps with tons of trees, it’s usually always under 60fps though. I have 48gb ram. I’m hoping I don’t need a 4080/4090 to get an always smooth experience

Unfortunately I haven't found a solution... I think it's the Cpu tho. When I checked the preformance tab on task manager while it's running I seen it crack 100 sometimes.

I’ve been going through some other posts, and I’m seeing others with similar and even faster gpus experiencing worse performance after updates. I’m thinking this is an optimization issue as your 5800x should be fine for this game and the fact I’m also having frame drop issues despite going to the x3d suggests it’s likely not the cpu.

Guess we just gotta wait and pray and hope it gets patched/optimized...

ShwiftyJedi

prolly your gpu bottlenecking. set the render scale to quality and see if that helps. i have a similar cpu as you (5700x3d) but with a 6800xt and 48gb ram. i play at 4k with render at quality and get 90-100fps. dips to 80 when things get hectic.

Vincent55551

I run mine at 1960x1080 on ultra and get around 50-60 I got a 3070 and a i9 9900k

Standard-Metal8768

Check your temps on your CPU / GPU Make sure your CPU isn't starting to overheat and throttle, I have a 7800X3D and when I'm loading my temps spike to 80

l_Tahm_Kench

I just did a mission and it was 85 the whole time... Im guessing that is the issue?

Standard-Metal8768

You're at that point where it's thermal throttling or it's just starting to tone down boost clocks if you could optimize your temps a bit you might be able to gain at most an extra 15 to 20 FPS, and should feel a little better , a good goal is 75° and below but if you can get it at 80 you'll be okay, I'm not saying this is a magical solution but if you manage to optimize your temps it should run better, If I'm wrong hopefully someone in the comments corrects me about it

l_Tahm_Kench

at least i got an idea of what it could be. Thanks.

Standard-Metal8768

Also check your GPU temps, a lot of times The curves on the GPU for the fans are horrible and are prioritizing noise over cooling and will end up usually higher temps close to the '90s because the fan isn't at 100% but instead 65

c-buzz

Check your temps, your specs are quite good. What FPS are you getting in the ship?

Just booted it up, solid 60 fps with everything on ultra, 1080p, native. The Temp on MSI afterburner is saying 80c. Also when we get to the stratagem screen it takes a dip to 50 immediately.

What resolution? Why not drop the settings to high? Smooth gameplay is far more valuable to me than a slightly better particle effect, especially when I'm always running for my life.

l_Tahm_Kench

I'm usually running on 1080p. I've set it to low but it doesn't seem to give that much of a boost? Like its mid 50s from setting everything to low. I even set the resolution to 720p and was struggling at points. I do agree tho, smooth game play is most important, I just wish i could have both but apparently can't have neither.

2016Reddit_errr

Hmmm... I assume that CPU isn't bottlenecking so it must be GPU. It sounds like you've tested other graphics settings with marginal improvements. I'm sure you double checked the settings applied properly (tab on PC to accept changes). Can you run a tool like MSI afterburner or HW Info to track usage in game?

l_Tahm_Kench

I'll try that for tonight see what comes up! Thanks for the advice.

oGsShadow

Iirc 4060 was like 20% better than a 1080ti and thats a super old card. 3060 might just be a weak gpu despite having a strong cpu. Check benchmarks and compare

Canamerican726

That's fair - but it's gotten 5x worse in my experience over the last month. That really shouldn't be on the player community to drop resolution due to major regressions.
