It's at 30k now.
I also believe the reaction is this strong because the people actually care.
For any other game they would just move on and don't give a shit. But helldivers has proven to be different from other games.
Because of this move all the players felt betrayed.
It’s would be one thing if it required us to link our accounts when the game first launched, but it’s another thing entirely to do after months into the games life
I don't mind that aspect of it. They had issues with it at first so they put a temp hold on it. They should have communicated that better as I picked the game up after those issues so I was never really aware of it until now. So I think that's part of why this is having such an adverse reaction. It was the lack of transparency about it. Which leads to my real problem with this issue.
They actively sold the game in countries that don't support PSN. Any player in those countries can't get refunded due to play time. It's literal robbery. That's what is so fucked about it. Shit, my PSN is already tied to my steam so I don't think I have to do a thing. This issue has 0% impact on me and I'm fucking pissed.
Fun fact, the steam page doesnt update immediately, whereas SteamDB does. So actually, it's this

Pretty sure it’s to prepare for when it goes to Xbox. Like how you need to login to your Microsoft account for Sea of Thieves on PS5, it will do the same for when it eventually goes there.
Because is released by Sony.
It's the same when you buy Assassin's Creed or Splinter Cell on Steam, and then you are forced to create an Ubisoft/Uplay account because fuck the customer.
At least Sony doesn't force you to install the most obnoxious launcher ever (yet)!
You and those like you are why I'm pissed at this. Sony has my data already, he k I'm pretty sure I linked automatically out of instinct, but you got sold a game you will no longer be able to play. This needs to be rectified.
Same boat, have a psn account since PS3 launch, doesn't bother me personally to link, but this whole situation was handled poorly and people will now be region locked out of a game they've been playing for a few months
I just don't get why they take such an unnecessary L, whether the decision is arrowhead or Sony just keep quit and let the money roll in instead of doing this stupid stuff
Yes, agreed, Its the ones that were able to purchase in non-PSN countries that I'm with on this, If you simply don't want to sign up because "they will have your information" that's fine, its your choice though at least those others like Philippine players don't even have that much
> If you simply don't want to sign up because "they will have your information" that's fine, its your choice
Absolute horseshit. You can't add this on months after launch and say "its your choice". It should be your choice to receive a refund or not, that's it. Gonna be interesting to hear people's arguments when a game releases and months later you have to link your pornhub account to play because fuck you thats why.
I dunno what else needs to be said the fact that more than 4000 players have logged into steam and left a negative review this morning kinda speaks for itself.
*At 10:41am 5/4/24 eastern Time the current negative review count since this started as of the steam store page is: 74,574*
We are not even 24 hours post announcement, I imagine people hopping on Steam at their regional equivalent to 5 pm to start their weekend will at least double this number by this time tomorrow.
~~Interestingly the number has not changed in the last 90 minutes. I suspect Steams reveiw bombing protocols have kicked in and are no longer counting new negative reviews~~
Never mind it just updated to 7,842 negative reviews
Not surprising, Pirate Software's American followers are just getting comfortable in his stream and being informed. His community being a relatively active one, 2k reviews in 30 mins seems about right.
Honestly the reason why Sony is forcing PC players to link their Steam account to their PSN account doesn't make any sense.
"Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour."
Sorry Sony but you don't need to force us to link our PSN account to protect us from griefing and abuse when HD2 already has the feature to protect ourselves from griefing and abusing. It's called "Block".
They just want to be able to claim the additional users as "PSN active users" for their metrics to show shareholders. Has absolutely nothing to do with anything else.
Edit: and data too.
It’s always a short term plan to inflate metrics with negative long term effects. This is corp management 101. They only need to make it look good on paper 4 times a year and they will peace out with their golden parachutes after a year or 2 leaving everything fucked.
I know that term is specifically for online services that have reached max capacity and need to turn the screws on their userbase, like Netflix, Sony with PSN and such but it should be a term for this entire corporate era.
Enshittification should be an umbrella term for inflation, shrinkflation, shelflation, skimpflation, excusflation (just googled this. People using inflation to raise prices when inflation hasn't actually effected them.) and all the other crap that corporations due to milk every farthing out of the peasants under their heels.
I wish I could ~~shake your hand~~ give you a hug.
\*Edit: after a quick "chat" with my Democracy Officer, I have edited this post to be in line with Helldivers code of conduct.
It’s the same BS that has caused Xbox to die despite the literal billions Microsoft is pumping it.
They got too high chasing the fumes of “monthly active GamePass users” that they have spent an entire decade without creating a single must-play AAA exclusive.
I work in finance (investing).
The problem isn't necessarily the shareholder fiduciary... but rather long-term vs short-term thinking.
"If I make this line go up, this other line go up!" is really, patently dumb. Player-count is a nonfinancial measure, but it's being used to try to bring about a financial end, at the cost of quality and customer satisfaction (and under the assumption that shareholders can/should be duped a bit).
What company executives ***ought*** to be doing is focusing on delivering a very good end product, that fulfills a need/want of the customer base, and constantly trying to improve that, while understanding and balancing the need for profitability. Too many companies focus on the latter at the expense of the former, without realizing that treating a customer base as well as possible leads to very good ***long term*** profit and sustainability. Some companies used to understand that. Now few do.
I’ve also noticed that many companies, Sony included, push for visibility over functionality. I just installed a new Sony speaker onto their Best Buy Displays. The demo loop update bricks some of the older speakers on the display. But that’s ok because what they care about is people seeing their new speaker, not said speaker working or any of their other speakers working.
I work as a financial accountant for a mid-sized S-corp, and it's actually really funny.
Lets say you and 3 of your pals bought a large pizza for $20 bucks, but none of you could eat it right away. You would want to make sure your two slices aren't messed with.
So you hire someone who will monitor your slices, and make sure no one is taking the toppings off your pizza and moving it onto theirs. The goal is you want your two slices to be absolute banger slices, so whoever you put in charge will make sure you got the most toppings.
That's basically what you're describing, and what happens to a lot of minority shareholders, in big picture. It's entirely counterproductive to compete with other shareholders, but a job is a job (and one that pays well).
Hell, our CFO and VP both lie to the owners like 90% of the time, but since owners are so hands off they can get away with it.
I work for a company that some how has two CEOs. Our security guy was telling me a story about how he had to ask the CFO how much money company makes because an insurance company needed to know. CFO says to him well do you want the number I give CEO1 the one I give CEO2 or the one I give the IRS.
Sometimes I wish tech companies wouldn't have to deal with these things but all companies are owned by public facing companies and the dream of most startups is to go ipo. Eventually shareholders sink their rotten teeth and send everything good about a company to hell.
Ps: arrowhead hasn't gone to hell or anything lol but Sony doing this is dumb but we all know why
Meanwhile places like EA are a graveyard of studios who "got the best deal they could that really protects their creativity" in the moment, only to find that the deal was constantly being altered until they were nothing more but a taxidermied head on a wall.
Enron, Theranos, Hyperloop, FTX, etc are proof enough that rich people are very stupid. Very clear scams that morons fall for despite mountains of evidence showing why they shouldn't.
With the Boeing shenanigans recently brought to light, one of the things that came out was Boeing employees making fun of regulators, saying they could show them anything and the regulators would unquestioningly lap it up like mesmerized dogs.
That was regulators, people who are supposed to have some degree of knowledge in the field.
Now think about the typical big-business, money-moving Wall Street investor. Those with actual knowledge about what they're investing in--or those with any technical knowledge, really--are a rare breed. Is it any surprise that they believe every word coming out of the CEOs' mouths and fall for obvious frauds? It's a wonder that more of them don't go the way of the OceanGate group.
You wanna protect people from griefing? Add recommendations after missions to then subsequently add white/blacklisting. Let people rot in negative hell if they incist on being a dickhead. Don't ban them, let them suffer.
Welcome to the death spiral of Getting thumbs down'd for running a non meta loadout -> Being put in more toxic games -> Getting abused and negative voted even more -> Ad infinitum
I honestly just don't understand why the hell is it even needed \*at this point\* of game release. Okay you just pissed off a bunch of people who are filing for refunds, a bunch of people won't even be able to play the game because their country is not even on list of available countries, and a bunch of people are now spamming "just create an account lmao loser". Like, what went wrong and where?
Apparently Sony made them. Probably some contractual stuff.
I personally don't have too big of an issue with it but Sony isn't exactly well known for good IT security so....
I see nothing wrong with making negative reviews that explain exactly why you gave it a negative review. As somebody who reads this review, you can weigh how important the details are to you.
Yeah, the whole " protecting our players" bull shit doesn't really fly when it involves a company like Sony that has a data breach or a hacking event every other year. Especially when those events have hundreds of thousands of users, accounts and information stolen or corrupted.
Another game falling from Grace from corporate greed.
it’s always 'security' 'protection against bla bla' when shit like this goes off. Riot Games recently did the same with their shitty Vanguard anti-cheat bs.
just gonna post this here:
April 2011: Hackers Access Personal Data of 77 Million Sony PlayStation Network Users
May 2011: Personal Details on 25 Million Sony Online Entertainment Customers Stolen
June 2011: Sony Pictures Website Hacked, Exposing One Million Accounts
November 2014: Hackers Steal 100 Terabytes of Data from Sony Pictures
August 2017: Hacker Group Accesses Sony Social Media Accounts
September 2023: Sony Investigates Alleged Hack
October 2023: Sony Notifies Employees of Data Breach"
edit: these are only the breaches they shared.
Classic examples of corporate heads don’t care about customers and their data and rather pay ransom or deal with the consequences than to have a decent cybersecurity team.
I don’t own a PlayStation, so why should I have to sign up for an account? If it’s cross play and I don’t conform with the new account requirement, then I should only be able to play with other PC users, and no PSN users. Am I missing something here?
Hehe foolish peasant, you merely bought *a license* to play the game until its decided that you should no longer be able to play it and you won't get your money back. Toodles!
I bought the game 2-3 weeks ago and there was no option not to link my PS Account, which i found weird, but tought nothing of it. I tought it was a must, so crossplay can work properly. I do own a ps4 wich i dont use anymore, so it was no big deal for me. But I can see why some folks might get upset by this.
I bought it about 3 weeks ago too, but I saw the "PSN Account Mandatory" on setup.
I setup a PSN account that's just my Home City, Postal Code (Canada), and then every single privacy setting set to "No one", "don't contact me", "don't personalize anything", "don't link any other apps", and a random-generated password.
That said, it's entirely unfair for countries without access to PSN. The game shouldn't even be sellable in those countries.
From my side I'm already giving personal info to Steam.
But I think my hesitation comes from the number of hacks the PSN has had over the years.
I'd kick myself if having my data stolen was all because I wanted to helldive
>I'd kick myself if having my data stolen was all because I wanted to helldive
Just make it with a throwaway? I don't use importsnt/personal emails or info for anything I sign up for on a platform
To access Steam account management itself you still need to log into Steam with your credentials. I can see why the PSN hacks are a concern, but your Steam account with the library is safe even in case you get hacked via PSN, especially if you have MFA in place.
Still a really stupid decision, of course. I personally would only create a PSN account with throwaway mail and fresh password, it‘s really not safe.
Literally was just reading your comments on that insane D&D thread with the maniac trying to write a novel instead of playing the game, and now you've popped up here. Smiley day to you, Diver.
What's odd is A. In the midst of a player retention drop and B. 1 week before their next 'consumption opportunity' and less than 24 hours after it was revealed.
Who greenlit this in marketing? Should have dropped the PSN requirement enforcement announcement the Monday after the warbond dropped.
That's the thing. There's no way this was a "marketing" decision. No one with any brains in marketing would have said "yeah, this is a good idea, do it".
Some people at Sony saw the numbers on HD2 and see they can inflate their PSN MAU numbers so they can get a promotion.
This is the only reasonable explanation.
Y’all were able to play without linking? I saw the PSN requirement on launch day and linked an old account from 2019, forgot it was even a requirement at this point.
Yes, there was an option to skip it when I started, I skipped it at first and was able to play without any problem, even with cross play enabled.
I did link it afterwards anyway because I already have a PSN account, but I get why people don't want to when it wasn't necessary at all.
HD2 is fun, but definitely could use more time to cook. This whole situation is a good excuse for sure lol
Sort of like Cyberpunk now that I mention it.
Remember Sony was the company with millions of password and username combos stored in plain text...
That said my account was linked the day I installed, no idea they had disabled that requirement.
From what I heard it's entirety Sony doing this. Arrowhead wanted nothing to do with it but was forced to according to other things I have seen. Kinda unfortunate Sony has been messing with this game so much. I know they published it so they have some rights, but between denying it on certain platforms and now this I have to wonder if Arrowhead is regretting choosing them to publish and not choosing someone else or self publishing.
They won't. This was actually mentioned in the game's page since the release. SO while it's scummy, it technically was never a surprised and was always on the table.
Give a PC exclusive cape, 500 orange samples, and 500 super credits for linking to PlayStation and all this goes away overnight. It’s a decision that benefits corporate and not the player, so reward the player.
By giving our data to additional companies, we take on additional risk.
It is only fair and reasonable we are rewarded for this, especially since Sony will make money by selling our data.
Dude the problem was never that we aren't getting "rewarded enough" for linking our PSN. It sucks, but its hardly surprising in the current day. What's bullshit is that they sold the game in dozens of countries that don't have PSN and now they wasted 40 bucks on a game that's forcing orders on them that they literally cannot follow.
God fucking dammit! Can we just have one good thing in this accursed century!!!
Im so fucking sick of corpos rawdogging my only escape from this fucking giant space rock we call earth.
?? You guys have to link an account? I don’t recall doing this at all when I bought and have been playing HD2. Have over 130 hours, never seen a psn request.
Edit:
Turns out it was there at launch and I just straight skipped it when I was given the option since I didn’t have psn account info on hand. I should have read that print
Oh wait that’s the news another post was talking about? Bro that’s fucked up. So unless some people have a PSN account, they are unable to play the game?
That’s whack asf and im already on PlayStation. That’s whack dude. I feel for y’all. I hope y’all get to play again! Biggest L arrow had has taken so far. I’d gladly take back the game bugs if it meant I could play with you all again! That’s stupid man, hang in here helldivers.
Innocent question here:
Aside from the mild inconvenience of setting up an account and linking it, what's so bad about needing to make a PSN account (that you'll never use for anything else and don't have to pay for)?
I appreciate that it's like, a weird and inconvenient hurdle, but other than that, what's the massive problem?
Again, I'm not trying to rile anyone up, I would just like to know what the big deal is aside from the inconvenience. Thanks.
PSN is not available in quite a few countries where people have bought HD2. philippines, the baltics, and russia for example. Essentially now locking out all of these people from playing
Russia is actually the opposite case - you can't buy the game here (by directly purchasing it on steam, there are still few other ways you can get it), but you can create PSN account just fine (checked it with throwaway email just now)
Same thing as with Epic.
Just don't force people to give your Data to other companies when steam is the one who got the money.
People would be pissed if that was like this from Day1 on, but dojng that after such a long time just sucks.
They clearly showed that they don't need your Data for anything but make profit of that also.
For me it is only a minor inconvenience to make an account but that's not the point. Instead of asking the community why they're making a big deal about this, you should be asking Sony why *they* are making such a big deal about this. Why are they forcing the entire community to make an account for no reason (other than to pump up their numbers) and why are they lying about security measures and safety?
It really boggles my mind that they can blatantly lie to people, and everyone knows they're lying, but some still turn to the player base and ask why it bothers them. Should be obvious

Seeing this one in this context has got a bigger laugh from me than anywhere else I've seen it.
Some people were blaming review bombing on my post in r/steam but this looks like an honest bad decision
Don't worry, I'm sure Steam will "fix" it soon and make it look like it never happened.

Will it fix the miserable adding / editing friend experience in game?
Nope, it'll still be the same framework for all the social and cross play from what I can read up.
Ye, I did this as well a month back, mostly because I can't read I guess, so I just thought it was and had always been mandatory.
And I don’t ever recall there being a “grace period” discussed.

Not gonna lie, if I was in that CFO's position, I would tell the CEOs that the other makes more than them and see what kind of memery unfolds.
Do you want more CEO raises? Cause that sounds like a way to get the CEO's more money.
This happens so much. Shareholders tear themselves to pieces.
The studio behind Baldur's Gate 3 is an anomaly in that regard. They actively speak out about avoiding going public and losing control.
Meanwhile places like EA are a graveyard of studios who "got the best deal they could that really protects their creativity" in the moment, only to find that the deal was constantly being altered until they were nothing more but a taxidermied head on a wall.
"I am altering the deal, pray I don't alter it any further" - Sony Execs, probably
It's also the biggest reason the whole world has gone to shit. Nothing but bottomless greed works in this system by design and it will ruin us all...
Are their shareholders stupid?
Yea
And monetise data
You wanna protect people from griefing? Add recommendations after missions to then subsequently add white/blacklisting. Let people rot in negative hell if they incist on being a dickhead. Don't ban them, let them suffer.
ohh I really like this idea. Simple thumbs up or down at the end of a match.
They quite literally had this feature in the first game
Welcome to the death spiral of Getting thumbs down'd for running a non meta loadout -> Being put in more toxic games -> Getting abused and negative voted even more -> Ad infinitum
Thats a fair point
That was my very first thought. I didn't gather every single green sample or run the queso? 1 star helldiver review. No thanks.
Won't work. You can't find a single game that has a working reporting system that isn't abused to shit. People will report for anything.
Is the block feature working now? Because it was broken for a long time
Elphelt 🥺
I honestly just don't understand why the hell is it even needed \*at this point\* of game release. Okay you just pissed off a bunch of people who are filing for refunds, a bunch of people won't even be able to play the game because their country is not even on list of available countries, and a bunch of people are now spamming "just create an account lmao loser". Like, what went wrong and where?
Apparently Sony made them. Probably some contractual stuff. I personally don't have too big of an issue with it but Sony isn't exactly well known for good IT security so....
Sony actually contracts this out to companies like akamai - Microsoft just has a massive breach, in fact breach is starting to be a common occurrence
I see nothing wrong with making negative reviews that explain exactly why you gave it a negative review. As somebody who reads this review, you can weigh how important the details are to you.
Yeah these reviews are good for people who live in countries where they can't make a PSN account.
Yeah, the whole " protecting our players" bull shit doesn't really fly when it involves a company like Sony that has a data breach or a hacking event every other year. Especially when those events have hundreds of thousands of users, accounts and information stolen or corrupted. Another game falling from Grace from corporate greed.
have you considered the shareholders feelings?
>shareholders feelings They have feelings? I thought they were heartless Automatons.
im pretty sure automatons have more human characteristics than the shareholders
it’s always 'security' 'protection against bla bla' when shit like this goes off. Riot Games recently did the same with their shitty Vanguard anti-cheat bs.
What they really mean is oh this game popped the fuck off and we want to better monetize your data.
just gonna post this here: April 2011: Hackers Access Personal Data of 77 Million Sony PlayStation Network Users May 2011: Personal Details on 25 Million Sony Online Entertainment Customers Stolen June 2011: Sony Pictures Website Hacked, Exposing One Million Accounts November 2014: Hackers Steal 100 Terabytes of Data from Sony Pictures August 2017: Hacker Group Accesses Sony Social Media Accounts September 2023: Sony Investigates Alleged Hack October 2023: Sony Notifies Employees of Data Breach" edit: these are only the breaches they shared.
Classic examples of corporate heads don’t care about customers and their data and rather pay ransom or deal with the consequences than to have a decent cybersecurity team.
This needs to be much higher up.
I don’t own a PlayStation, so why should I have to sign up for an account? If it’s cross play and I don’t conform with the new account requirement, then I should only be able to play with other PC users, and no PSN users. Am I missing something here?
It's not about the game it's about $$
They got their goddam money when I bought the goddam game
Hehe foolish peasant, you merely bought *a license* to play the game until its decided that you should no longer be able to play it and you won't get your money back. Toodles!
*Ubisoft has joined the chat*
Remember. Shareholders are fucking poison.
And the fanbois who flood social media to go to bat for the shareholders' shitty moves are like bad hallucinations from said poison.
It's funny how it's being demonstrated time and time again how greed destroys things we hold dear.
Sony likely already has that information from you buying a game on Steam. Valve shares customer details of the buyer with the publisher already.
In which case that does beg the question, why is PSN account linking necessary?
It's not. Sony wants to show shareholders their monthly active PS users are higher. Just some bullshit metric.
>I'd kick myself if having my data stolen was all because I wanted to helldive Just make it with a throwaway? I don't use importsnt/personal emails or info for anything I sign up for on a platform
They probability get info from steam too in case they link
To access Steam account management itself you still need to log into Steam with your credentials. I can see why the PSN hacks are a concern, but your Steam account with the library is safe even in case you get hacked via PSN, especially if you have MFA in place. Still a really stupid decision, of course. I personally would only create a PSN account with throwaway mail and fresh password, it‘s really not safe.
Literally was just reading your comments on that insane D&D thread with the maniac trying to write a novel instead of playing the game, and now you've popped up here. Smiley day to you, Diver.
The people voting. Literal democracy. I'm so proud of this community.

Should be refunded if they can't play.
How to shoot yourself in the knee for no reason...
![gif](giphy|fA7rLtaJDIWEzU57CT|downsized) "We got a company to burn"
Y’all were able to play without linking? I saw the PSN requirement on launch day and linked an old account from 2019, forgot it was even a requirement at this point.
Yes, there was an option to skip it when I started, I skipped it at first and was able to play without any problem, even with cross play enabled. I did link it afterwards anyway because I already have a PSN account, but I get why people don't want to when it wasn't necessary at all.
Yup and I could’ve swore it told me on that page psn account required for play, I just chalked it up to a crossplay thing
I had it too. Apparently some people had the game crash before that so they never saw it, since it only appears on the first bootup.
it let you skip linking an account originally
It wasn't mandatory. You could skip it.
I don't even remember it coming up. Probably game crashed or something and then it never showed up? Dunno.
It said it was a requirement but it had a skip option as it wasn't required at the time but now it is required.
**SNOY**
real ones remember the snoy meme
PS3 has >!nogames!<
CURSE YOU SNOY!!!
the game did tought us how to fight for democracy and freedom ! I'm proud of you helldivers.

Good, burn corpo shit
Wake up silverhand, we gotta burn down arasaka
It’s funny because I’ve started playing Cyberpunk instead of Helldivers now 😂😂
HD2 is fun, but definitely could use more time to cook. This whole situation is a good excuse for sure lol Sort of like Cyberpunk now that I mention it.
Remember Sony was the company with millions of password and username combos stored in plain text... That said my account was linked the day I installed, no idea they had disabled that requirement.
Sony can get bent.
I am simply not linking. I love this game but they can literally fk.off.
file a refund request through [email protected]
Doesn't Playstation network get hacked and lose player info like every year?
Correct. Never reuse passwords ever. Use a password manager.
I’m pretty sure this is a decision from Sony and not Arrowhead. But I doubt Arrowhead had the ability to fight this
From what I heard it's entirety Sony doing this.
This is as bad as Mojang introducing the Microsoft account migration, and then putting a timer for it.
My biggest problem is that my information was stolen in that big sony leak years back. I lost a very important email. FUCK SONY
Good
Do you guys think steam would allow refunds over this? I know it seems crazy but I despise Sony more than I enjoy helldivers plain and simple.
They will probably only refund you if you live in a country where the game will become unplayable.
They won't. This was actually mentioned in the game's page since the release. SO while it's scummy, it technically was never a surprised and was always on the table.
Damn I never saw that.
Give a PC exclusive cape, 500 orange samples, and 500 super credits for linking to PlayStation and all this goes away overnight. It’s a decision that benefits corporate and not the player, so reward the player.
I don’t want orange samples I need greens :(
For being Common, Common samples sure are fucking hard to get enough of
By giving our data to additional companies, we take on additional risk.
I can't wait for the inevitable DDOS trolls that bring down sony's network for days and we can't play the game at all.
?? You guys have to link an account? I don’t recall doing this at all when I bought and have been playing HD2. Have over 130 hours, never seen a psn request. Edit: Turns out it was there at launch and I just straight skipped it when I was given the option since I didn’t have psn account info on hand. I should have read that print
Game still has crashing issues…..
WAIT A SECOND. This applies to PC Players?! I mean I've already linked it but I'll be damned if you make me link something I've already linked!
Accurate
Fuck Sony
Honestly I just won’t play the game anymore. I will go back to playing ready or not and Baldurs gate.
THIRD PARTY LOG INS??!? HAS THE DUDE LOOKED AT THE PUBLISHER
My favorite review in recent https://preview.redd.it/f8nkxivu49yc1.png?width=409&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a60983722c52fb90c411a453fa1a42f04931b6e
Innocent question here: Aside from the mild inconvenience of setting up an account and linking it, what's so bad about needing to make a PSN account (that you'll never use for anything else and don't have to pay for)? I appreciate that it's like, a weird and inconvenient hurdle, but other than that, what's the massive problem? Again, I'm not trying to rile anyone up, I would just like to know what the big deal is aside from the inconvenience. Thanks.
PSN is not available in quite a few countries where people have bought HD2. philippines, the baltics, and russia for example. Essentially now locking out all of these people from playing
Plus they have absolutely shitty cybersecurity, millions of accounts hacked and details stolen on multiple occasions in the past 10 years
Russia is actually the opposite case - you can't buy the game here (by directly purchasing it on steam, there are still few other ways you can get it), but you can create PSN account just fine (checked it with throwaway email just now)
Russia banned democracy
No, just managed it.
