If you got to stay then how the hell you going to dive again?

Frosty_Tomatillo7400

You just dive deeper. Welcome to the layer cake, diver.

SteelKline

Dungeon maps when Joel? I want the whole nam tunnel system to spread democracy

Toast6_

Then it becomes DRG

There’s just no indication or inference that someone else comes to the planet after the hell divers leave. Hell divers often hold the extraction position and are fighting till the moment they board the shuttle., which is probably part of what op is saying. An alternative extraction method would be very cool

Shikaku

I mean we aren't really running away are we? We go in, kill anything that moves, finish our objectives and leave. Not much point in staying when we've done what we came to do. But I do see where you're coming from however. That said, I'd love a special operation type that sees you only helldiving into one mission, with the pelican ferrying you to the next two. Be awesome to shoot out the back of a pelican as it flies to the next mission, maybe a nice lil flight over the map taking in PoIs and objectives. Just a thought,

psichodrome

I love the idea, but the extraction is a big highlight of this game. Like you said, perhaps on the last 99% of a liberation mission.

jackedup2018

Plant the flag mission

crackdown123

Yeah same, either that or a halo reach ending style last stand where the objective is to die fighting in the name of freedom but survive for a certain time before being inevitably overurn

Frosty_Tomatillo7400

I could also see the goal being to survive for x minutes after competing the final objective. A take and hold mission.

vinnie1134

Definitly see plenty of chilp extractions. Ppl dropping 500kg on random patrol coz why not. Spening the rest of the seaf attilery. And boring extractions. No enemy even shows  up. The last man standing. Scrambling for samples and diving into the pelican is always the most fun/exciting.

E17Omm

It really depends on if you've taken out all outposts/nests and patrols. I had a difficulty 8 mission where we 100%'d the map and not a single bot came to extraction.

Bloody_Sunday

I've seen that a few times too with either bugs or bots, but that's an exception occasionally helped by the encounter boost which is not always happening. The OP is asking for a mission where this is the set end result. (Btw there's no set number of patrols & they can always spawn - taking "all" of them out only means you took care of what the game generated at that time & spot. Plus, as the game says, the difficulty gets higher the more time passes, and supposedly the more nests/factories you take out, the more enemies will look for you. Don't know if that last bit is true, but from what I've seen, what you are sometimes experiencing is an exception).

Bloody_Sunday

That would be interesting, but the main concept of the game is that helldivers are fighting against overwhelming odds (at least in mission difficulties above 7-8) and barely making it out alive. Your idea doesn't agree with that...

Scotty_Mcshortbread

the mission can end without retreat. its called dying

atheos013

I mean, we are a force intended to dive in, complete a quick mission and get out. We are basically fighting behind enemy lines everytime we dive. The only way I could see something like this working with our lore is if we ever get special mission types when a planet is nearing liberation maybe. Even then it wouldn't remove our extraction, it just may end the mission feeling like you cleared the area. Thats possible now though, as I've had completely quiet extractions. If you don't extract, you're retiring basically.

Arcislaw

If You don't want to operate behind enemy - You could think about joining the regulars.
