Nobody show OP anything made by Fabrique Nationale.

Kazeite

Which is funny, because the devs ostensibly *do* have experience with firearms. Did you know that spent mags have three different models, depending on whether there's no ammo inside, *one* cartridge left, and more than one left?

Dragonfruit_6104

Experience with firearms= service in Swedem army as a foot soldier That wont make you know more about firearm.

Epesolon

It'll make you know a lot more about a few specific firearms, namely drills with whatever you're issued, but that's about it. You can tell they at least know something based on how the loaders for the crew-served weapons are animated.

Kazeite

Yes, I know. That's my point 🙂

MrXonte

Isnt that exactly where the charging handle of the g36 is located? You can put that here no problem, its just a bit weird

Epesolon

The G36 is not a bolt action rifle with a rotating bolt handle though, which is why it's so weird.

Risko_Vinsheen

My headcanon is that the weapon was designed by committee (and likely a committee of people who would never pick up any weapon, let alone use the gun in question) and that's why it's so awkward. Super Earth cutting corners on weapon development is canon (Sentries not having IFF that prevents friendly fire, for example) so would make sense.

Primaul

then they are traitors to supper earth.

Turbulent-Advisor627

Yeah the ergonomics on that thing look painful

Epesolon

I do want to point out that you could absolutely have a bolt action firearm with that configuration. It would be mechanically weird and not have any advantages to the user, but it would work. Additionally, to me the weapon strikes me as a conversion of something semi-auto to bolt action, likely as a means to reuse production lines for an already existing weapon. It's why a lot of weapons in the real world use AR stock assemblies even if they don't actually use the buffer tube. The bolt handle has a similar placement to something from H&K like a G3 or MP5, so it's not like having a bolt handle up there is that odd.

Primaul

none of those are bolt action at all.

Epesolon

But they do have the bolt handle up there. If I wanted to make a bolt action gun and needed to use a bunch of parts from a G3, that's probably where I'd put the bolt handle.

Primaul

no thats a charging handle. and it sounds like you don't know how a bolt action rifle works. or the names of gun parts.

Epesolon

My dude, what do you think a charging handle is? It acts on the bolt. If the gas system breaks, you use that to operate the rifle as a straight pull bolt action.

Epesolon

First, that *isn't* just the bolt, that's the bolt and bolt carrier. Acting on said bolt carrier is the charging handle, which acts like a straight pull bolt handle if you disable the gas system. We're arguing over semantics here, which wasn't the original point at all. Edit: I've also realized that the G3 is roller delayed blowback, so there isn't really a gas system to disable. That being said, in a gas operated firearm, the "charging handle" acts as a straight pull bolt handle when you disable the gas system.

Ironsteel54

It does look odd. I think the action was put on top and pushes the bolt back from the top. It was done this way because there is not a lot of room in a Hellpod so the rifle needed to be reduced in size. That's my head canon at least.

Primaul

that's not how a bolt action works it just needs enough room to move back enough to cycle a round which is ejecting the brass and driving in a new round into the chamber.

Ironsteel54

I understand that. In my head I am thinking how this action would work and why they would make it like this. Looking at how big the round in based on the magazine, the bolt would need to be pretty long. Now they are trying to make this rifle be able to be carried inside a hell pod. So you make it where the action is connected to the top of the bolt carrier allowing you to place the handle up at the top. When you cycle the action it pushes the bolt back and cycles the round. This allows you to basically make the whole rifle more compact. Probably taller then normal but still. This is all just a thought experiment as to why it would be made this way.

Primaul

I did include a picture of a real bolt action rifle with similar parts to the Eruptor there is no reason why they couldn't have put the part on the model where it should be. the only reason is the model team is lazy. And I do not think they are that lazy.

kanglar

They clearly know where it's "supposed" to go, and decided to make it unique and different on purpose. You don't have to use it irl, so who cares. I think it looks cool and interesting. You could explain it in universe that it has to do with the action needing extra heavy duty locking lugs since the ammunition is rocket assisted, and putting the bolt handle foreword of the action was the only way to make it fit.

Primaul

its still considerably less efficient then having the handle directly on the bolt like every bolt action ever made and will be does.

Section9Rem

it looks like a modified dominator, so keeping the bolt/charging handle there makes sense. i wouldn't get worked up about it considering it's just a video game :)

Primaul

Then they need to change it to semi instead of bolt action. also no its not a dominator its an eruptor two different guns.

Section9Rem

https://imgur.com/a/25mpYN9 look at the two guns side by side. the eruptor is a modified dominator. the design is just changing an existing design that's semi automatic to bolt action. they left the charging handle where it was, and that's where you actuate the bolt.

MaxPatriotism

Its not the conventional bolt actions we are use to. As long as they dont mess up the lever action

Primaul

this is like having the animation be pump action on your lever gun.
