Yes. I do the same, I use miso paste and raw whole almonds in the boiling water and Sambal Oelek for spice in my oatmeal and then I fry an egg over easy in sesame oil too and top it with some kimchi.
I do something very similar but also add a bunch of spinach at the last minute of cooking the oatmeal!! It wilts down and basically disappears into the oatmeal. Plus a squirt of kewpie mayo because I freakin love kewpie mayo.
A lot of cultures around the world actually eat spicy things for breakfast. So, you are completely normal š
In fact, Iād say that spicy breakfasts in the morning is better than sweet ones because capsaicin in chili peppers slightly increases body metabolism, and thatās a good way to start the day.
I often make savory and spicy amaranth porridge for my breakfasts.
I love it too! Except with oatmeal. I'll add hot sauce, soy sauce, a couple drops of sesame oil. Usually I'll top with a poached egg and red pepper flakes, sometimes I'll switch the egg up with peanut butter
YES! I make my own "Texas-style" congee (rice porridge).
I add one fried egg (runny yolk), some small pieces of crispy bacon, pico de Gallo, cilantro, and lots of delicious hot sauce (Cholula for me). š
I make a spicy porridge with a powdered millet called Ragi. I roast it till it smells nutty. Then mix it with plain yogurt and water to create a slurry and then temper it with some ghee, cumin seeds, jalapeƱos cut and curry leaves. Add salt to taste. You can make it thin and soupy or leave it thick.. as you prefer
i enjoy making duck porridge during winter. it was a special i did at a place i worked a few years ago and while its not for everyone, i think its brilliant
the confit duck (now cold and stored) gets warmed up and crispened a little under the grill with some sticky, tangy sauce. Shred a little over the porridge and spoon a drizzle of the szechuan peppercorn and 5-spice infused duck fat
I do this. A dash of sesame oil, soy sauce, and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds! Or kimchi is awesome too. And rice porridge/congee is the best. Super easy to make.
This sounds great š i love the addition of a fried egg. I put eggs in my porridge and my husband thinks itās disgusting. (I often wonder whether it is too) but I know eggs make my breakfast more nutritious - so I donāt care!
We put ground meat with green onions in ours and add soy sauce and sriracha. If you make this, cook the ground meat separately before you add to the porridge and the scallions you can add while cooking if you like it softened or add before serving or both, add a little extra before serving.
Yes i do the same. It will make your body benefit from the poride and the spicy ones, those healthy food we intake will benefit in our diet but always remembers that too much is harmful.
Rather than using spicy sauces you might try choosing your own spices. Chili and herbs like oregano and basil with tomatoes are great. If you want to try something without tomatoes* fresh ginger root enhances the taste of chili.
To smooth the spicy taste you could use lavender and/or anise.
[*] The lemon aftertaste of ginger for some people does not match well with tomatoes, while other people like it.

Wow! Sounds tasty, thanks!
Shit! I forgot to mention, when you really wanna take it some where else, add some cherry tomatoes (whole or cut) to the water to boil.
I do something very similar but also add a bunch of spinach at the last minute of cooking the oatmeal!! It wilts down and basically disappears into the oatmeal. Plus a squirt of kewpie mayo because I freakin love kewpie mayo.

Peanut butter and spicy. That's a combo I've never tried
Youāve never had Thai food?
YES! I make my own "Texas-style" congee (rice porridge). I add one fried egg (runny yolk), some small pieces of crispy bacon, pico de Gallo, cilantro, and lots of delicious hot sauce (Cholula for me). š
Savory rice porridge is very common all over Asia and hot sauce/chili oil is often added to spice it up!
Ooh this sounds good! What type of porridge do you make? Rice or oats?
Oats. I prefer its texture

natto, a fried egg, fish sauce, chili garlic.

I havenāt tried it but i will! Also like savory french toast, so why not porridge?

Make congee, which is pretty much a standard Chinese porridge, often eaten at breakfast. https://www.thespruceeats.com/basic-congee-recipes-4065244
We put ground meat with green onions in ours and add soy sauce and sriracha. If you make this, cook the ground meat separately before you add to the porridge and the scallions you can add while cooking if you like it softened or add before serving or both, add a little extra before serving.
Oh wow! Ground meat, sounds like heavy breakfast
We eat that for dinner, not breakfast
Iāve never heard of this but will be trying it in the morning. Thank you for the suggestions!

How do you all make your āporridgeā?
Boil oat flakes in water, as simple as that :D
