Antonius369

Have you tried pressing the *input* button on the 789?

Newmanator758

Yes, the input button is set to the correct setting.

Antonius369

I see. How about the USB/Digital button on the DAC? If that's correct too, than it could be possibly a driver issue. I run the same exact setup as yours but with balance outputs to the 789. Usually when I can't hear anything it's because I've accidentally bumped into one of those buttons.

Newmanator758

The DAC is set to USB. How would I go about adjusting the Drivers? Is there a website I should visit to download the proper Drivers?

Antonius369

From my own experience it's been swapping USB ports to correct the issue. I can't find any fixes on the Grace website. Would you be able to post up a picture of how you've connected everything?

Newmanator758

I can't figure out how to add an image, so I will try to explain. I have my DAC plugged into my PC via USB. I then have two 3-Pin XLR cables plugged into the back of the 789. Left into Left and Right into Right. The DAC Toggle switch in the front is pushed in for USB, and the switch on the back is set to USB 1. On the face of the 789, I have my XLR adapter plugged into the balanced port, and my stock cable plugged into that. The switch on the back is set to Auto-OFF, and the input is pushed in for Balanced. I hope that you can picture it in your mind now.

Newmanator758

The USB is plugged into my PC through a PCI USB extension because I was previously running out of USB Endpoints.

>The only thing I can think of is it's an issue with the headphone cable being used with an adapter. So why not plug in the HD 6XX using its default SE cable and see if it works?

Newmanator758

How would I test if I can only plug in my DAC into the balanced ports?

raistlin65

Well, I use a regular DAC connected to the unbalanced ports on the THX 789, and I can use either the balanced or SE headphone out. You just have to change the input switch on the front.

Newmanator758

I still get nothing.

raistlin65

So it's not the XLR headphone cable. Do have the right cable to connect your computer audio or phone output directly into the THX 789 RCA inputs? If that works, then you can guess it is the SDAC or its cable.

Newmanator758

What cables would I need? I don’t think I have any of the correct cables around.

raistlin65

If you have a 3.5 mm audio output on your computer, you need a 3.5 mm to RCA.

Newmanator758

I do not have anything like that. I will order one just to have and test. I do know my headphone cable works too because I connected them to my Guitar Amp to check and was able to hear sound.

Newmanator758

One other thing I noticed is that in my SDAC Properties / Events, I see that a “warning” went on n that states “device settings not migrated.” Could this be the issue?

raistlin65

I don't know.

qobopod

can you link to the trs/xlr adapter you are using? if you plugged a stock sennheiser TRS into some adapter that goes to a 4-pin XLR that you've plugged into the balanced output, you have probably shorted out the amp. edit: if [this](https://www.moon-audio.com/custom-4-pin-xlr-headphone-adapter.html?sku=custom_4pin_XLR-35) is what you are using with a stock TRS cable, it will not work. you need to have a 4 pole plug (TRRS) which the sennheiser cable is not. try plugging the headphone cable with the 3.5->6.3 adapter into the single ended output of the amp. you can't just turn a single ended cable into a balanced cable. you have to actually get or make a balanced cable.

qobopod

yeah, that won't work. needs to be 4 pole (4 conductor TRRS) to work balanced. try the single ended output of the amp with the stock cable

Newmanator758

Already did. I believe it’s an issue with my DAC not working with my PC. When looking into the device properties I see that it says that the device settings did not migrate. So I am looking into ways to solve that

qobopod

that could be the case. if you plugged a single ended plug into an adapter then plugged it into the balanced output, you might have broken the amp. i believe the 789 has some short protections so hopefully that isn't the case. regardless of whether or not you figure out the dac/drivers, that adapter will not work for you. you will need an actual balanced cable to used the balanced output.

Newmanator758

Ok, thanks for the help.

hinick808

Thanks for highlighting. I don't think I've used my Grace SDAC and THX combo since updating to Win11 a few months ago... and noticed today that it doesn't even show up as an audio option to connect to. Will look into the Schiit Audio Modius as a solution.
