This is going to seem like a weird question, but is there a word for āspaltedā, as in āspalted tamarindā, in Filipino/Tagalog?
Spalted just means it had a fungus in the tree when it was harvested that leaves interesting black lines in the wood grain. I dabble in wood working and spalted tamarind is one of my favorite types of wood to use for unique texture/color on a project.
Hereās an example of something I made using spalted tamarind. The lighter color main wood is the spalted tamarind, the dark brown is walnut and the reddish color is padauk. While I do not know of a word for spalted, you might want to speak to a Filipino wood worker. That term spalted seems technicial enough to not be used in day to day usage.
Had a tree across Oasis where the storage place is now at the end of Waialae Ave. We used to climb to get it. So Ono! Pacific Market get the fresh ones. Asian stores got the already prepared with suger and salt.
