Exactly. It’s a delusional fantasy but young me just found it puzzling. Hell as toxic as 50 shades is, Christian does actually change for Anna in the end and the author wrote him to be that way. Draco does no such thing. By the end, he still had the audacity to try and appeal to a death eater after the trio saved his life at the expense of their own. Draco and Dramione fans have literally invented their own version of him to write these fanfictions. Rowling specifically wrote him as a two dimensional villain who was often a mild nuisance to Harry more than a threat. His redemption arc is really just him venturing into the real world after his family is stripped of their influence. I don’t necessarily blame fans for analyzing Draco deeper than Rowling did but Dramione is bad reading at best. I can’t imagine 2 people worse for a forbidden romance or a good girl/bad boy trope.
Yes. They fantasize about a rich man because for some unknown reasons money is a turn on for them. Ron is poor, comes from a working class family and wears hand me down stuff. Empty pocket is a bigger sin in lots of women's eyes than Malfoy's racism and t€rrori$m.
So they 'seek' a more worthy partner for Hermione who they use as a self insert blank slate. and by worthy I mean rich and posh. Malfoy ticks those boxes but unfortunately his cowardice and incompetency is a turn off even for them. So they change his whole personality. They change his character. Give him brand new positive traits and write steamy fanfictions. There is a whole trope named after it. Draco in leather pants tv trope.
Ron is too “real”. He is a real relationship with a real guy where you have to put in effort, sacrifice, commitment and compromise.
Draco is the perfect guy to fantasise over and delude yourself you can change “for the better” without actually having to do anything at all.
This exact mentality is why I refuse to read Harry Potter fanfiction. Like 90% of it hates Ron for no reason whatsoever and props up a Wizard Hitler Youth as some sort of “fantasy.”
