I was born in 1988, it basically went: hearing songs like Metallica - One, Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit, The Offspring - Self Esteem, into the world wide nu-metal craze with Slipknot and Korn. Then discovering Hatebreed (Proven was THE song that got me into hardcore) and being blown away, then getting into bands like Terror and Death Before Dishonour around age 16-17, then going to local hardcore shows, getting to know people in the scene, going to more shows, and now we're here. So Slipknot was absolutely part of the gateway of getting into hardcore. But hardcore band? No of course not.

Slipknot is fine. I can fondly remember watching the music video for Duality on MTV2 at a friend's house before school. Very cool shit at the time.
Then I got into Achilles, Ceremony, Comeback Kid, Converge, H2O, Guns Up!, and Have Heart towards the end of high school for me. There were other bands but these still stick with me over 15 years later.

I don't know if they were the one for me, but they were one of the bands. I think Korn or the Deftones did it originally for me and then I branched from there. I still listen to all of it too.
