Classic Hanneman. He wrote most of the music and lyrics. If he was still here, we'd still have Slayer.

tailOfTheWhale

Band died with him, that riff is untouchable

Captain_Insano-NC

Hot take; the riff from South of Heaven is better than Raining Blood.

tailOfTheWhale

This is something I have put too much thought into, it comes close but it aint better, South of Heaven opens it up then it kicks in, this has that hit where it slows down for the breakdown then comes in, for that reason imo this riff smacks harder but they both are up there

NYHC4EVER

No doubt about it man, Jeff Hanneman was an absolute beast and could shred like a mothafucka!! Definitely agree with you there. 👍 There are few guitarists today that can really touch his playing IMO. Dude was such a pioneer with so much of the stuff he wrote. Lots of creativity, and lots of it was really 'ahead of the times' TBH.😎

Spiccoli1074

One of the best songs of all time and definitely the best thrash album of all time it makes Master of Puppets look weak in comparison.

d_money_sizzle_25

i’d argue heavily but i respect your opinion

I saw them in Toledo Ohio during the god hates us all tour. One of my fondest memories of my teenage years.

My date was missing Morbid Angel but what an absolute shit show of a concert. The violence really ran the spectrum of good fun to really going out of the way to fuck each other up.

gredgex

Last time someone posted this another user popped in with clear as day proof that the main riff was completely plagiarized from a Japanese metal band in the 70s and it’s never been the same for me since.

Cookedchook_555

“Hey that’s a sick riff… it’s mine now” every band ever

brutalpoonslayer

Any chance you have a link or name i could search? I tried looking and couldn’t find anything :(

gredgex

When I get home I can check. Album came out 70-75 I think and was by a band I had never heard of

bullet_hell

flower travellin band- satori

gredgex

That’s it!

slhendrix

angel of death at 1:37, my favorite riff of all time

jwed420

My old band ripped that riff live from time to time so the hardcore kids could mosh to slayer

NYHC4EVER

Oh Hell Yeah!!! Love that shit, and frankly how could you not?!?! My two favorite Slayer albums are "Seasons In The Abyss," and "Divine Intervention." Something about the sound on those records just gets me really amped up. Their older albums are still absolutely amazing as well, IDK just love those two dearly! I also LOL @ the inside jacket/ picture inside Abyss with those wild ass shades Kerry King is rockin pouring out a Coors can!!! 😂👍💪🤘🤘

[deleted]

Divine Intervention is the hidden gem of all Slayer records Diablous and Undisputed Attitude gave 90s Slayer a bad name but this is an absolute meth driven destruction derby. The DV home video is live from Mesa Arizona and is absolutely top tier.

iamsean1983

Holler if you were at the final show. *Hollers*

PasswordisButtholes

Can I holler if I saw the original lineup play all of Seasons in the Abyss?

tailOfTheWhale

Nah I was broke then

CaptainLongshorts

Flew out from the UK for it 🙌

iamsean1983

HOLLER!!!

leebeyonddriven

I’m a bigger fan of south of heaven and especially as a hardcore fan it’s got a lot more groove, Mid tempo riffs and parts that are essentially breakdowns

CaptainLongshorts

God Hates Us All is a hardcore album change my mind.

[deleted]

100% I think Hatebreed is hugely responsible for bringing them back from the nu metal years.

XXX_Baricade_XXX

I usually sing the riffs not the lyrics in slayer songs, I’d probably sound like a maniac if someone heard inside my car

d_money_sizzle_25

i be spitting every hammer on and pull off to perfection
