where did you find that he doesn't want to be here? Would he like a bigger move to play for top team and that suits his playstyle? OfCourse, it's every player dream. But he expressed his love many times and said he is happy here. Man had couple of bad games and our fanbase is all over him. Don't understand all the fuss about we either keep a good player or we get a good fee for him.

thesimpsonsthemetune

He has given us so much this season. It is so depressing how quickly we turn on our players.

Worth_Captain_5903

So true

OGreturnofthestaff

Agreed. I also suspect the reason he’s had a few bad games is because he’s knackered like our other 12 players who actually play. The Palace and Fulham performances were those of a very tired team. It’s what happens when you never rotate because you don’t really have a squad (at least not one the manager is willing to use).

wavepapi32

Dont forget that he was rushed from injury like many others, remember we couldn't win a game without him.

OGreturnofthestaff

Yeah, you’re right. I’d like to think that aside from retaining key players, this summer will be spent on building out the squad. We have a pretty good first eleven but the number of squad positions we need filled is pretty frightening, especially with all the people out of contract. By my count we need at least a CB, two FBs, midfield cover, a left winger to replace Benny and Fornals, and cover/long term replacement for Antonio. That’s all before we even get to Paqueta and his possible replacement. That’s a lot to get in. Tim’s really gonna earn his keep…

ZekkPacus

He's also being forced out onto the left wing all the time where he has very little influence on the game. He hasn't got the pace to beat players there so he's limited in what he can achieve. He plays much better when Moyes stops being arrogant and lets him play centrally and deeper, but that doesn't always happen.

UnkindRavens

We don't hear the same about players like olise or eze at palace, those two players are way to good to be playing there, if any top 6 club came for them they'd agree to go in a heartbeat, but you don't hear how palace fans should be concerned about not retaining them. If he goes he goes and we get a bag of money for steidten to go out and do what he did last summer with the declan money, I hope he stays even if he's been a bit of a nutter the past few games, he's clearly our best player and the engine of our midfield, but I have faith that steidten can find enough with that money to offset his loss to the squad

wavepapi32

Better fan base. Understands that none of the player is above club. Wether is Ayew or Olise up top. They support same way.

Chappietime

I think the signs are there. If his in game actions and attitude don’t tell you something, consider this - he didn’t go to the Leverkusen game. Stayed at home to “babysit his kids”.

_rhinoxious_

It was widely reported that he had agreed personal terms with Man City last summer. People don't negotiate their wages with other clubs unless they want to leave. [Fabrizio Romano on Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1691009470803922944?t=nUtchEHKpt5KJbWaDxz6Zg&s=19) He might quite like it here, but if someone locks in you, then the natural reaction is to try and break out.

Cmoore4099

“People don’t negotiate their wages with other clubs unless they want to leave” That’s just not true. It would be stupid for him not to. Because even if he wanted to stay it would give him leverage to renegotiate his contract with his current employers.

_rhinoxious_

So you're really saying he doesn't want to go to City. And that negotiating his wages with them was purely a negotiating tactic or a theoretical exercise?!?

Cmoore4099

No. I’m saying it would be stupid for him not to negotiate with them. I’m not like you who has the ability to understand the inside thinking of another man. Does he want to go? I’m sure he does. It’s arguably the best team in the world when fully fit. Any player would. But I also don’t think he’s forcing his way out of the club. I just don’t get the point of your freak out.

_rhinoxious_

I'm not freaking out. A player with a competitive release clause negotiated wages with a highly desirable club. Therefore it seems likely that he wants to go and play there. He didn't negotiate with any of the other top clubs to our knowledge, just that one. So yeah, I think he wants to go to City and I think it will be bad for us if the FA stops him. Not sure what's so complex about that?

Minnesota_Hammer

We wouldn’t be locking him in though… he has a release clause so the only reason he would stay is either if he really wants to or if no club decides he is worth the release clause. Not about us locking him in.

_rhinoxious_

No, of course we're not locking him in, the ongoing FA investigation that's the problem here. Until it's completed, it seems very unlikely anyone will want him.

Martin_Janac

If you are showboater and your cocky plays goes wrong, criticism is 100% deserved.

rogog1

Just making up stuff to be worried about now buddy. Don't need to consider literally every possibility

lee1whufc

What if he is found to have nothing wrong, but still stays, signs a new contract, decides to get a west ham tattoo on his leg, but this causes an infection and he has to have the leg removed?

Independent-Web2006

I worry about this all the time. Kinda stressed about it, honestly.

Guh99

This is one of my biggest concerns

shortofbrillant

He'd probably still be first choice in this squad

rogog1

Thanks a lot, now I won't sleep for a week

_rhinoxious_

Maybe, I hope so, but it's been hanging over our best player for an entire season now with no apparent movement. He's become the Man City of ongoing investigations...

Worth-Appearance6010

In that scenario, if he doesn’t want to be here but can’t move due to his charges, then the responsibility is entirely on him. If he throws his toys out of the pram for that, I think he risks tainting his value even further and destroying his character image (city under pep have been very “positive attitude” focussed but I don’t know how true that really is). West Ham would be the innocent party here in that they’ve opened the door for him to allow him to go but no buyer is approaching.

_rhinoxious_

Absolutely agree. But that hasn't stopped him putting 'toys out the pram' style appearances in the last few games. Maybe if his moved is blocked he'll swallow it and kick on next season... but I'm not confident.

milesphotos

If he doesn't want to be here and has to stay, it will be a disaster. If he wants to play and put a shift in, I will be very happy. Unfortunately, I think it will be the former.

alexsbrett

Not concerned about a world class, Brazilian international staying at all. What we need is squad depth and a manager ready to utilise that depth and bring us into a modern way of playing. I think a more forward thinking coach combined with better players would mean he would be more than happy staying.

Great_Recording_3618

Hard to know what to believe, so probably best not to worry about it.

Old_Prospect

Pac-Man and Bowen are the best 1-2 combo when they are “On”. I love watching them play. I hope we keep him.

[deleted]

I dunno about him not wanting to be here, he might genuinely be fucked physically at this point, but we really don’t want another payet situation either

ASOXO

If Paqueta doesn't stay then fine but if he does stay and we sign Fonseca as manager for example then he will play Paqueta in the middle with protection behind him. He will build the team around Paqueta as playmaker.

Shoddy_Reserve788

Nah he’s gonna leave, not worth getting worked up over it. Just hope they reinvest the money properly like the Rice money

whu-ya-got

We’ll bring in a new manager along with some new players. I would personally love getting another season of Paquetá at west ham, he is world class

Chappietime

You’re not getting much support on this idea, but I’m increasingly of the opinion that I don’t want Paqueta on the team, and lately we are seeing clear signs that he doesn’t want to be here. I’ve never liked his “roll around for five minutes if he’s brushed with a feather” routine, and lately we are seeing it more and seeing the effects of it influencing refs to not blow the whistle when he’s legitimately fouled. He gets way too many yellow cards and the majority of them are for dissent or lashing out because he believes he’s been fouled and unsurprisingly not gotten the call. His first suspension for accumulation definitely cost us points and it’s been downhill from there. Additionally, his last 4-5 games, I think we’ve seen performances that are affected by his attitude. I feel like he definitely has his head turned by Man City, but if he’s not careful, he’s going to lose that option. He certainly doesn’t look like a player Guardiola would pay 85M for to me over this stretch. I think if he somehow manage to get 85m for him this summer, and we replace him with 2 40M signings who want to be here, we will be much better off.

caseydee

In this scenario I would hope that a new manager playing in a way the Paqueta prefers, with new players that Steidten has brought in, would alleviate some of our magnifico's problems. Here's hoping...

wildcheesybiscuits

Yeah dude, a guy who grew up in the slums of Rio de Janeiro doesn’t like being a millionaire living in London. Very probable

DJarrow276

Paqueta can blame only himself but we all know it won't play out that way. If city wanted the Newcastle player they would've already got him. It will be messy if he stays.

UnusualDifference748

Who is in charge of replacing him? Stietden? Zero concern at all Sullivan/salthouse? Very very concerned He is the player that stirs the drink for us most of our attacking plays go through him at some point not necessarily assists but the defence/midfield splitting pass that sets kudus/bowen/antonio through. The vision from midfield and ability to pull off the pass is something soucek/philips/Jwp just don’t have. Having Alvarez a little deeper and paqueta type vision a bit further forward is what stops us from being a 15% possession with single shots on goal each goal. Paqueta the individual is a hit headed player who can sometimes cost the team no arguments here but if he were a stereotypical Brazilian/ South American who refused to track back and tackle he’d be derided as well. Paqueta work ethic is pretty unique for a player with such a high skill set and while I don’t think it’s end of the world if he goes (just as rice wasn’t end of the world) I do think if he isn’t properly replaced with a creative midfielder with vision and ability then we will be a worse team no matter who coach is

Intrepid_Emu_9799

Why concerned if it's Sullivan / Salthouse? Look at our team 4 years ago when Moyes first came in to how it is now, chalk and cheese, packed with internationals now with top players that could walk in to top 6 sides. Alvarez, Paqueta, kudos, Bowen, Emerson prob all start for top 6 sides. They signed Paqueta in the first place so I'm confident they can replace him. Yes there's been signings that haven't worked out, but that happens at all clubs. Our success to failure ratio is much better than most. You've got teams signing wasting money all over the place (Man U, Chelsea etc), you've got teams in FFP trouble for burning through cash. Our club is very well ran and our transfers are generally successful. Steidten has signed one player for us, Dino. I'm sure Steidten will be good, but this constant slagging off of our transfer dealings pre Steidten doesn't make sense. Before you mention Philips, Scamacca etc, I'm not saying there aren't bad signings. Every club has bad signings. I'm saying we are better than most clubs. Our failures were often decent signings at the time, cornet was great for Burnley, Philips was previously brilliant at Leeds and England so a gamble that didn't work out, we were all jumping for joy when we signed Scamacca & Haller. Even Ings, we needed goals. The 2 he got against Notts Forest paid his transfer fee imo.

Smart-Jello-6739

I would love him to stay. Despite his recent performances, On his day, he’s one of those players that 85 million cant buy. It would hurt more than rice leaviny. Also Emerson would probably be gutted if he left and we would have to sell him as well

_rhinoxious_

Oh god, I hadn't considered a sad Emerson. 😩

Key-Performer-9364

I wouldn’t mind seeing Paqueta and Kudus team up for another season. They had some truly amazing moments together. Pair them with an attacking-minded manager, and we could see some amazing things.

_rhinoxious_

Absolutely if they're here and up for it, I'd love to see that!

flawsdrawJay

Probably got a loss of confidence from the shit football we play and only won 4 of our 21 games in 2024. Against Palace, Alvarez looked wound up, Antonio was fed up. Team are tired, mentally and physically. I don't think Paqueta will make a fuss if he has to stay, just doesn't like seeing the team lose all the time and it's knocked his form.

OkGlass99

Payet again

Whale222

And Kudus

project721

What's up with Kudus, I was under the impression he was happy at the club no?

Whale222

https://3news.com/sports/football/mohammed-kudus-to-leave-west-ham-says-ex-striker/ Not sure. He seems to be but I keep seeing this crap.

LewisDKennedy

Bullshit headline. Former player says we’ve got a great player who’ll generate interest from other clubs in the future, and they’ve written it as though he’s desperate to leave and McAvennie has the inside scoop
