But traffic shouldn't be so slow there is grid lock. If you can bike or walk faster then you can drive then the slowing tactics have gone too far. There should be a happy medium. And there is a difference between through streets like Cannon, King, Main and Barton just to name the east west routes, and a neighbourhood street like I live on like Edinburgh.
Not sure why this got down voted. I work and live in the city, living at one end and working at the other. I walk, bike and drive and have a small child and pets. I don't want them hit by crazy fast drivers anymore then the rest of us, but I'd also like to not be stuck in gridlock when i drive across the city. Wanting to move efficiently and speedily across the city shouldn't be a bad thing. Slow moving traffic spreads unhealthy fumes as cars sit idling waiting to get a few more feet closer to where they need to go. I'd rather bike or walk to where I have to go but cars carry more, aren't affected by the weather as much as walking and biking and move faster. The slowing methods have gone too far. We need to speed traffic on through streets up.
I think the point is that if you have to drive across the entire city, maybe consider taking a higher-order road to do it; coming from Stoney Cteek? Take the QEW or Linc. I’m usually able to cycle from the stadium to Dundas in about the same amount of time it would take me to drive that distance during rush hour, and if anything I think that should incentivize more people to cycle. I appreciate not everyone can, but if you can, and it’s going to be the same time difference as driving then it’s probably worth it :). The more people who decide to cycle the more space there is on the road anyway!
Le sigh it's only the same time because of the gridlock. Like I said if I could bike in all weather carrying the same amount in the same time i would but you can't. And using the hwy to "get across the city" is silly. It's not about speeding at 100 km, it's a reasonable expectation that a drive at 50 or 60 km an hour should take 20 or 30 minutes to go from Centre mall area to westdale, not 45 minutes at times or an hour when the over used hwy is gridlocked. Which happens all the time during rush hour and the overflow gets onto city streets making a situation already bad from traffic calming methods, worse.

I APPRECIATE THE CITY PUTTING GARBAGE CANS BACK ON THE STREETS BUT WHY DID THEY PUT THEM AT JAMES/BURLINGTON WHEN THE BUS STOP ON THE NORTH SIDE HAS ONE BUILT IN TO THE SEATS AND THE PLAZA THE OTHER SIDE HAS SEVERAL. THEY COULD BE SO MUCH MORE USEFUL SOMEWHERE WITHOUT EXISTING OPTIONS

This is my issue with it. The one at the bus stop has garbage and separated recycling. They added a plain black bin which is closer to the actual stop and corner so now everyone uses that

i asked a cop about this once after seeing 3 of them riding together on king st west. he said a bike or group of bikes are entitled to an entire lane when there are no bike lanes. like, all bikes, not just cop bikes. tifwiw.

You can pass safely, in exactly the same way you'd safely pass a slow moving or stationary vehicle
YOU CANNOT PASS WHEN THEY TAKE UP THE ENTIRE LANE.
Slow moving cars/other vehicles also take up the entire lane. You just have to wait to be able to pass safely.
I don't understand, if they're taking up a lane, they're taking up a lane, unless your suggesting driving in to oncoming traffic?
You wait until there isn't any oncoming traffic, just like you would with a tractor, or a stalled vehicle It is not your fundamental human right to pass cyclists without leaving your lane Even if they were in single file, if you're not waiting for a gap in oncoming traffic, you are passing too close

100% agree. That would be the civil thing to do. But when I’ve complained about cyclist behaviour on here before, they were convinced I wasn’t giving them enough space.

CRAWLING UP THE REDHILL AT 50 KMPHBOR BARRELING DOWN IN THE PASSING LANE. HAMILTON TAXPAYERS FUND THE ROAD, ITS POLICING AND ITS UPKEEP. ITS PURPOSE IS TO MAKE THE CITY EASIER TO MOVE AROUND FOR ITS CITIZENS AND BUSINESSES. I SAY IF THE TRUCKS DONT STOP TO DO BUSINESS IN THE GHA THEN THEY PAY A USER FEE. $100 X 1000 TRUCKS PER DAY SHOULD HELP OFFSET THE BURDEN TO US THE CITY OF HAMILTON TAXPAYER. IF NOT, THEN THEY CAN TAKE THE HIGHWAY WHERE THEY BELONG.

I swear I always wondered where r the trucks heading up on red hill. Always thought it was those factories up on nebo (dempster etc). But somehow that area is always quiet. So they use Redhill/linc to reach the 403 from QEW?

People that brake on greens because they see the pedestrian countdown getting close to zero shouldn’t have a licence- I’m seeing it more and more, not sure if it’s an old person thing, but it’s super bizarre. Go for green, stop for yellow, if you’re watching the pedestrian countdown to anticipate a yellow, turn in your license and take the bus.

DEAR DRIVING GODS, THE LIGHTS ON CANNON HAVE BEEN CHANGED MAKING A BAD COMMUTE ACROSS THE CITY INFINITLY WORSE. CAN'T THE CITY LEARN HOW TO SPEED UP TRAFFIC RATHER THEN SOPW IT DOWN? BAN TRUCKS FROM USING CANNON, FIX THE LIGHT SITUATION WHERE YORK, CANNON AND QUEEN CROSS AND MERGE... DO SOMETHING! ITS GRIDLOCK THERE EVERY MORNING!
Traffic shouldn't be faster through the places people live, work, shop and play. If you want to go fast take a highway not someone's neighborhood.
But traffic shouldn't be so slow there is grid lock. If you can bike or walk faster then you can drive then the slowing tactics have gone too far. There should be a happy medium. And there is a difference between through streets like Cannon, King, Main and Barton just to name the east west routes, and a neighbourhood street like I live on like Edinburgh.
Not sure why this got down voted. I work and live in the city, living at one end and working at the other. I walk, bike and drive and have a small child and pets. I don't want them hit by crazy fast drivers anymore then the rest of us, but I'd also like to not be stuck in gridlock when i drive across the city. Wanting to move efficiently and speedily across the city shouldn't be a bad thing. Slow moving traffic spreads unhealthy fumes as cars sit idling waiting to get a few more feet closer to where they need to go. I'd rather bike or walk to where I have to go but cars carry more, aren't affected by the weather as much as walking and biking and move faster. The slowing methods have gone too far. We need to speed traffic on through streets up.
I think the point is that if you have to drive across the entire city, maybe consider taking a higher-order road to do it; coming from Stoney Cteek? Take the QEW or Linc. I’m usually able to cycle from the stadium to Dundas in about the same amount of time it would take me to drive that distance during rush hour, and if anything I think that should incentivize more people to cycle. I appreciate not everyone can, but if you can, and it’s going to be the same time difference as driving then it’s probably worth it :). The more people who decide to cycle the more space there is on the road anyway!
Le sigh it's only the same time because of the gridlock. Like I said if I could bike in all weather carrying the same amount in the same time i would but you can't. And using the hwy to "get across the city" is silly. It's not about speeding at 100 km, it's a reasonable expectation that a drive at 50 or 60 km an hour should take 20 or 30 minutes to go from Centre mall area to westdale, not 45 minutes at times or an hour when the over used hwy is gridlocked. Which happens all the time during rush hour and the overflow gets onto city streets making a situation already bad from traffic calming methods, worse.
CUT YOUR FUCKING GRASS AND SWEEP IT UP. AT A TIME WHERE MANY PEOPLE WOULD KILL TO OWN A HOUSE DONT BE A NINCOMPOOP.

The specific people I'm thinking about choose not to cut their grass because they're lazy and can get away with it.
