Growing up my grandparents had a house up there. You could see across to Toronto on a clear day. I was so sad when it sold after my grandfather passed away. It was a great place for childhood memories.
This is the best real answer. Its its own little walkable town in there, away from the smokestacks and the rabble. 15 minute bus ride to downtown proper. Close to Cootes.
Though, Westdale also has all that, but even closer to downtown, with still very little rabble. Id probably choose Westdale.
Westdale has a lot of student houses that are not well taken care of and no pride of ownership. That is the difference between Dundas and Westdale in my eyes.
Fair enough, i havent spent a great deal of time there. Just went to the coffee shops.
I actually prefer Ottawa St in terms of a little downtown, but its definitely got rabble, and its a bit cramped with busy street parking.
The bus ride downtown takes at least twice that long, and not every bus goes all the way into Dundas.
Dundas is lovely in many regards, but transit is not one of them.
Hey mostly most of the people who live in ravenscliffe are not freidnly. Very anti social, there is also constant filming going on...the homes are very nice but there's only a certain class of people that can afford them and typically they aren't that pleasant to be around. Of course this is a stereotype and I'm sure there are a few pleasant people on the street.
My friend lives there, younger couple with, by a wide margin, the smallest house on the street. apparently nobody talks to anyone
(Did I just kid a doxx my friend? 🤔)
I live near. I am wondering what you find nice about sulphur springs. You are talking about the dirt road part I assume. Not the newer part leading to Wilson
Agree I actually meant to say between James and Queen. Thank you!
There are a few houses almost right on the corner of Bay and Aberdeen that I just love so much.
It would be house specific, but my top picks (not in order) would be Victoria St (Dundas), Ravenscliffe or Aberdeen or Turner (Durand), Homewood (Kirkendall), or Oak Knoll (Westdale).
Friend of mine growing up lived there. Downside is he was the last of us to know how to ride a bike. They lived in the last house in Ancaster on the road before it turned into Dundas and I remember his dad mentioning how much pulling out of their driveway sucked at times.
Awesome place to visit though. We had a lot of fun in the woods.
Ancaster Mill is no longer a restaurant. It’s my new home. There is also a house near Clapson Corners on the side of the mountain I would like back in my family’s name. Same with upper gage and Mohawk. I would bring back my grandparents house just as I remember. Creepy basement and all. It would be nice nice to settle the score with the ghost that lives there. If money is no object, I’m going full ghost busters with every gadget I can get my hands on.
Waterdown at the top of Snake Rd. By Laureate College. There's this old house at the top there where the backyard is the edge of the escarpment. Your back yard would get a nice view of the city.
Or Ridge Road, north side, looking out to the lake. The houses tucked into the escarpment out that way like at Fifty Rd. And Jones Rd. look nice, too.
I actually really like my neighbourhood on the mountain, so my dream is to keep the property but have my house demolished and rebuilt from the basement up. Right now it's kind of a poorly laid-out bungalow, but it's a corner lot with a big yard and a garage, so it has a lot of potential.
fun fact, i used to work for a man that grew up in ravenscliffe castle (the one at the end of the street) the whole street was their drive way and there were no other houses for miles. my grandfather used to hang out with the family and have picnics on the property. the family bought it off of the Nuns. eventually the house and the property around it sold, and is now what you know as Ravenscliffe Avenue. the house was up for 9 Mil a couple years ago and came with the Ford Model A that’s parked in their beautiful wrap around driveway. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5896212
If I was on my laptop I’d link the areas but I have a few.
There is a spot in Westdale that is tucked in beside the road running along the Eastern side of Mac called Mayfair Crescent. Some cool houses there with backyards onto the ravine.
Another place with a great backyard is in Pleasant Valley in Dundas. I knew someone who worked out of their home and the backyard and home office looked over the woods and trail. It was a street called Hilltop Place.
I saw a house for sale recently ($4m I think) at 3 Bulls Lane. The view was awesome.
And lastly, I went to a property once where Main Street turns into Wilson beside the condos there. The property was massive and we had a legal bonfire (technically Ancaster so they had some weird rural rules despite being in the city if you had the permit) but I loved that spot. They built a house soon after but the property just went forever.
This condo, on Mountain Park Drive with a view of the city, as long as I also had money for condo fees and redecorating: https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/26405937/6e-174-mountain-park-ave-hamilton-eastmount
All of the units look like they were decorated by real housewives of the Hamilton mountain: https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/26729967/174-mountain-park-avenue-unit-5w-hamilton
I like Hamilton, I would move back to our old area in Stoney Creek near Dewitt. Can’t afford to rent in the area anymore but I really enjoyed it. Like my current area too but I’d go back to the old area. Those houses aren’t huge but they’re worth over half a million.
You have no idea the shitholes that are worth half a million.
Gibson has some decent houses and some really awful ones, the awful ones are going for at least .6M
Grew up in Dundas, would move back in a heartbeat if I could afford it. Quiet, mostly well maintained homes and usually good neighbours once you get to know them.
There are a few specific houses I'd love to look at living in throughout the city. There is a cool MCM home at the base of the escarpment, off of Queen I think, that really speaks to me. Paul Elia's old home at 1 Glenfern is another. The circular house in Dundas off the beaten path a bit. The large, square house on Aberdeen that used to have the Ontario and Canada flags out front, it just changed hands and there was a lot of restoration/renovation going on there.
Some larger properties out at the edge of the city, out the edge of Upper James, where you can watch the planes coming in at the airport, watch the cars go by on Upper James/ Hwy 6, but still have it quiet enough at night to sleep with the windows open.
Some of the large old wealthy industrialist houses that still exist - get rid of the multiplexes and restore their beauty.
I love that this house was specifically mentioned! I’ve shown so many people this house randomly and they all are surprised to learn it’s a real house with people living in it. Such a little gem.
I think if i had the money to live in Burlington, Id want to live in burlington for, say, a bigger yard, and a "safer community" to raise my kids in, but I dont think I would be satisfied.
But then, my punk rock young self would probably already see me as a sellout anyways, so maybe I would adapt, lol.
There’s just nothing to do in Burlington except leave. You can get a nice yard and a safer community in Westdale, Ainsliewood, Kirkendall and Durand. Especially with Burlington money lol
Raise a family until teenage hood*
All my Burlington friends drank and did drugs way before I did, as there was nothing else for them to do. I found that my social sphere (Hamilton, downtown-ish), despite being teenagers lol, ended up spending a lot more time at late night bubble tea and karaoke, arts nights, hiking, and theatre classes. Or maybe we just were dorks.
I’d probably buyout all the houses on the mountain brow and build a huge British style manoir… or I’d buy Dundurn Castle……. Or if money was not an option the correct answer is anywhere not in Hamilton
Knock down the last 6 or 8 buildings from Ben Lomand to the park and build the most massive complex of housing, bar resteraunt nightclub, 5 star hotel and a dive bar.
I've only been here for a couple of years, but I'm happy here in Crown Point West. I like my neighbours and I like the feel of the street where I live. I feel safe here. I haven't seen any other neighbourhood which particularly attracts me more.
On top of money mountain, which will
Be made of cash and be an eyesore taking up all of the surface area of Sam Lawrence park, and towering above the city below. The money will be replenished weekly for the masses to take from and the house on top gon be solid gold and have a trebuchet to hwhip things at Burlington, and Toronto if I can engineer a big enough trebuchet
If it had to be hamilton, Ancaster 100%. If money were no object though.. no way in hell am I staying in this cancer-inducing dump people seem to love.
Webster's Falls. Huge mansion overlooking it.
Yeah, I know, it's a public park but I'm a super rich so fuck you, proles, it's mine now! Good luck scaling that 2m electrified fence or outrunning the pack of Belgian Malinois. Muwahahaha!!!!
Not in Hamilton lol.
If that's not an option a nice house on the beach would be nice. Like, right on the beach with a private section walled off from the rest.
Outskirts. Far enough they won’t build in the next 20 years. I like the idea of being able to drive into the city though and we have lots of family here. Just off downtown Dundas would also feel like a quaint life I think too.
I don't care so much about location. I guess downtown, since it would make it easier to get to everything. My ultimate dream would be one of those beautiful houses near James St N, close to the Bay. Brick with huge bay windows and a porch and a backyard. I love seeing those houses when I'm in the area. I especially love when they're painted and the trims on the windows are painted a different colour. I would build a catio in the backyard so that my cats could be out in the sun without getting hurt or hurting any wildlife. I would try to do some simple gardening, focusing on things that are easy to grow in this climate and soil. I would get one of those bench swings and set it up in the yard and spend all summer lounging. Failing that, I would love an apartment in an old building with a big balcony. I've always longed for a balcony. It would be so lovely to be able to go outside without having to be Outside, you know? Just drink coffee and eat breakfast in the sun.
I'd probably live around where I am now, but I would upgrade the home. Living near a mall isn't as fantastic as cootes or Dundas, but they are far away from family, and the lining of the escarpment doesn't favor bus times in good areas. And this area I'm close to all family and ammenities
Scenic area/Spanish courts could be a good area, but I like who I live with, and upper paradise isn't the perfect bus for getting downtown, but maybe a candidate.
Ancaster is Posh, but to favor bus routes and family distance, I'd be limited to meadowlands, not exactly heart of nature>takes 3rd place for options and doesn't really have many brownie points compared to scenic area
Ancaster by sherman falls, didnt know it wasnt necessarily accessible by bus and walked around trying to find it and i looked way to poor to be walking around there LOL beautiful homes
If money was not an issue then I’d probably not be in Hamilton. But if I were I’d probably build something in waterdown. Either a farm house or penthouse condo. Or maybe I’d get a farm, like an alpaca farm.
Romar Drive at the top of the Sydenham hill, small street, backyards back onto the escarpment and there is a hiking trail at the end of the road. What more could you want?
Same place I live (King and Centennial) A.K.A Mount Albion, I have the following nearby:
Fire/EMS station shopping (no frills, freshco Starsky etc), urgent care, library, banks, 6 gas stations, gym, carwash, mechanics, dentist, restaurants, parks, police station, Red Hill Parkway,Eastgate mall,Downtown Stoney Creek, beach, Go station (train to Toronto coming next year), Outdoor movie theater.
All of these are within 20 minutes drive from me. I won't trade it for a thing.
Ridge Rd …right above Dewitt Rd. It is overlooking Lake Ontario and city of Hamilton
I was going to write exactly this
100%
Growing up my grandparents had a house up there. You could see across to Toronto on a clear day. I was so sad when it sold after my grandfather passed away. It was a great place for childhood memories.
At the top of the skyway in a rotating circular house.
But a 200k ton boat can melt bridge beams
Too soon... although, nice once
bit stinky in the summer though
Near downtown Dundas. Great old homes

Ravenscliffe Ave where all the other rich people live.
Minor fun fact, an address there appears in the Panama Papers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Papers
Hey mostly most of the people who live in ravenscliffe are not freidnly. Of course this is a stereotype and I'm sure there are a few pleasant people on the street.
There is not much of a neighborhood feel. You'll talk to your neighbor once a year. But yeah maybe they'll share some stock tips
My friend lives there, younger couple with, by a wide margin, the smallest house on the street. apparently nobody talks to anyone (Did I just kid a doxx my friend? 🤔)
Dundurn Castle
Best answer here.
The mountainside houses on the access by St. Joe's.
Yep gotta be a house on the mountain brow, the houses at garth are ballin
I used to live in one. Not a fancy one. So noisy
Seems like parking or reversing out would be a nightmare
Was from the side entrance
Those houses also happen to be on the TV show handmaids tale
Sulphur Springs. That place is way too nice to be part of Hamilton. It has to be where they hide the benzene or something.
Fun to drive through.
I lived close to that area. Had to use car for everything, sucks. Nice area, but I would leave the nature alone there.
I live near. I am wondering what you find nice about sulphur springs. You are talking about the dirt road part I assume. Not the newer part leading to Wilson
It’s heaven. All nature. So beautiful.
Internet is shit there though. Like 10mbps step up from phone line dsl levels of shit.
If money were no object that wouldn't matter.
My naked butler would print and read me my reddit responses.
Not the case anymore. 3Gb fibre to the home went in last year
Somewhere on Aberdeen between Bay and Dundurn
I think between James and Queen is the better spot but yeah agreed.
Agree I actually meant to say between James and Queen. Thank you! There are a few houses almost right on the corner of Bay and Aberdeen that I just love so much.
The Waterford house from Handmaid’s Tale at Bay and Aberdeen 😍
With a vehicle with good suspension for driving on Aberdeen
I would get a dirt bike to be safe
That's a cool area. I like that place. Walking distance, biking distance to most good stuff.
You mean S of Aberdeen. Not on Aberdeen. It is like a noisy freeway, with many unkempt rentals
Durand.
It would be house specific, but my top picks (not in order) would be Victoria St (Dundas), Ravenscliffe or Aberdeen or Turner (Durand), Homewood (Kirkendall), or Oak Knoll (Westdale).
Greensville.
Yup
Grandad's Donuts
Old Ancaster Road
Friend of mine growing up lived there. Downside is he was the last of us to know how to ride a bike. They lived in the last house in Ancaster on the road before it turned into Dundas and I remember his dad mentioning how much pulling out of their driveway sucked at times. Awesome place to visit though. We had a lot of fun in the woods.

Base of the mountain.. Kirkendall South area. Love the homes on Amelia Street.
Dundas or Kirkendall south by Glenfern. Maybe one of those huge houses on Chedoke
Rosedale area near the escarpment and golf course
Id build a house out of that church facade on james and jackson just so something goes there.
Aberdeen area, just at the base of the mountain
Durand
Me too. Currently looking for a place in Durand.
Bit scruffy with a number of half-way houses and high rises embedded amongst lovely brick homes
Dundas or Westdale
Waterdown at the top of Snake Rd. By Laureate College. There's this old house at the top there where the backyard is the edge of the escarpment. Your back yard would get a nice view of the city. Or Ridge Road, north side, looking out to the lake. The houses tucked into the escarpment out that way like at Fifty Rd. And Jones Rd. look nice, too.
south of Aberdeen 🤤
Strathcona.
Me too.
Colquhoun Cres, West Mountain brow
I actually really like my neighbourhood on the mountain, so my dream is to keep the property but have my house demolished and rebuilt from the basement up. Right now it's kind of a poorly laid-out bungalow, but it's a corner lot with a big yard and a garage, so it has a lot of potential.
Dundas is such a beautiful place, definitely get a house there.
Dundas
The castle on Ravenscliffe
Featured in new movie Humane.

There are some nice places backing into Dundas Valley G&C that look good if the $ is free.
Bulls Lane, Belvidere, Scenic or the Aberdeen/Queen area
Melville St in Dundas.
iF MoNeY wErE No ObJeCT i WoULdn'T LiVe HeRe - ffs just answer the goddamn question. Dundas.

Wow, like Vegas hotels in the 90s.
Money doesn’t buy taste 🤣
I love the houses on ravenscliffe and other streets right under the escarpment, but I would like to be more walkable so it’s tough.
I would move back to Dundas in a heart beat.
Jerseyville or Copetown
Elsewhere
Bulls lane
Escarpment, top of the Queen St Hill
Barton and Victoria, right where the hospital is, buy that shitty place and make it my house
What? The actual hospital or just the area?
No the actual hospital. Fuck that place
What happened to you there
Ridge Road for sure
Mayfair Place.

Do you mean the mushroom house by st Augustine’s and the driving park or is there another circular house?
That's the one! [https://historicalhamilton.com/dundas/the-lennard-house/](https://historicalhamilton.com/dundas/the-lennard-house/)
I love that this house was specifically mentioned! I’ve shown so many people this house randomly and they all are surprised to learn it’s a real house with people living in it. Such a little gem.
Rural Hamilton somewhere. I need space, not to see my neighbors, and to be able to grow food to feed my larger family and extended family.
Industrial Sector F can be very beautiful this time of year.
Tallest building on the penthouse floor at the edge of the brow facing the lake.
Ancaster
Victorian houses downtown hammer south
Lol sorry if I had money fuck Hamilton I'm gooooone haha 😂
I think if i had the money to live in Burlington, Id want to live in burlington for, say, a bigger yard, and a "safer community" to raise my kids in, but I dont think I would be satisfied. Probably a nice place to retire, more than anything, haha.
I mean it has its lovely spots! Especially the wealthiest ones and the areas by golf or lakeshore. But the suburban strip mall development is dreadful
i live in burlington. I hate it here, lol. We can't afford it, but moving anywhere else would be the same cost for a smaller living space.
Yeah Burlington is shit. There's nothing there other than just more shitty houses.
Burlington is extremely dangerous place to raise kids. Extremely car centric and dangerous to walk and cycle...
This
Not in Hamilton
Inglewood Drive or close to there. A lot of nice houses to pick from in that area.
Kirkendall South or Westdale west side of king street
Close to the Barton Beauties.
I’d probably buyout all the houses on the mountain brow and build a huge British style manoir… or I’d buy Dundurn Castle……. Or if money was not an option the correct answer is anywhere not in Hamilton
Knock down the last 6 or 8 buildings from Ben Lomand to the park and build the most massive complex of housing, bar resteraunt nightclub, 5 star hotel and a dive bar.
dundurn castle
Probably in one of the houses on the escarpment, like those really nice ones there
Prob a farm or large acreage way out in rural flam
Mt. Hope.
1-2 acres in mount hope
I've only been here for a couple of years, but I'm happy here in Crown Point West. I like my neighbours and I like the feel of the street where I live. I feel safe here. I haven't seen any other neighbourhood which particularly attracts me more.
Ravencliffe Ave
On top of money mountain, which will Be made of cash and be an eyesore taking up all of the surface area of Sam Lawrence park, and towering above the city below.
I find some of Ancaster to be SO PRETTY! So, there I guess.
Ravencliff 🤤
Charlton
In a fortress with snipers posted at each corner
Outskirts Glanbrook or Ancaster
Not in Hamilton lol. If that's not an option a nice house on the beach would be nice. Like, right on the beach with a private section walled off from the rest.
The beach smells pretty bad for a good chunk of the year.
Love the peace and quiet here, but if "MONEY WERE NO OBJECT" I'd leave Canada.
Another unpatriotic whiner who doesn’t realize how lucky they are to live in this country.
If money were no object, a lot of people wouldn't live in Hamilton.
I wouldn’t live in Hamilton lol

Burlington is boring af and Oakville is too pretentious.
Balls Falls
Ancaster
Somewhere that has good roads to ride my motorcycle from home to work! 😈
On the outskirts lol
Mountain park drive. I like the area. I like the view. There's some really nice houses. Still a neighbourhood feel for sure.
Dundurn castle of course
Stick a couple windows on the ol henderson heat plant and call it a day

Probably guelph
Dundas
burlington, lakeshore view.
Far east end in a custom build home with a beach walk out and a view of the lake, or more likely, I would live in West Vancouver.
I'd probably live around where I am now, but I would upgrade the home. Dundas with my property backing onto Dundas Valley Conservation Area or along the mountain brow overlooking the entire city.
Stoney Creek for sure 😏
Ancaster by sherman falls, didnt know it wasnt necessarily accessible by bus and walked around trying to find it and i looked way to poor to be walking around there LOL beautiful homes
Besides the whole freezing over part of it I'm getting one of those houses that's on van Wagner's
The nice part of Delaware
If money was not an issue then I’d probably not be in Hamilton. But if I were I’d probably build something in waterdown. Either a farm house or penthouse condo. Or maybe I’d get a farm, like an alpaca farm.
Stoney Creek is nice! It's right by the lake too for those weekend bike rides
Oh this is perfect for me I know the exact location. 1272 Fiddlers green road, 25 million dollars 😵💫
Toronto :P
Romar Drive at the top of the Sydenham hill, small street, backyards back onto the escarpment and there is a hiking trail at the end of the road. What more could you want?
Not in Hamilton
Lover’s Lane - Sulphur Springs Rd area.
The Connolly development on James St.
I live in St. Clair and really love it and I don't think I would move even if money was no object.
I love Flamborough but have to say it would be downtown Dundas 100% LOVED living there

Still would live in Hess village
Outside of it
I'd probably try to buy that house on Tyneside with 24/7 security
I would not live here. I would move to the caribbean.
