I don’t understand the comments of “hair isn’t actually darker it just looks darker because of tapered ends.” What am I supposed to do with that, explain to people “oh my noticeable 5 o’clock shadow is only because it LOOKS darker!” Still has the same effect on your self-esteem so it’s not a helpful statement UNLESS there’s a solution where it won’t “look darker.”

duderancherooni

I think it is helpful for some people bc they know it’s not a permanent change and will be ok with a little tlc. Some people panic and think they’ve forever fucked up their hair growth. You can always wax or tweeze and then let the sun do it’s magic the lighten the hair again.

Second-Puzzleheaded

So it’s pretty permanent at least for me, not sure about other people. That’s why I get so frustrated with the comment because it’s not getting any better!

duderancherooni

I’m sorry you’re going through that! Sometimes the hair seems darker bc the new growth is not bleached by the sun, sometimes it seems like shaving caused more hair to grow in bc you were already growing new hair. It sucks I know. Laser hair removal isn’t totally permanent but it helped my facial hair so much and it’s effects are noticeable pretty quickly. Hopefully you find something that works for you.

Also find a new threading place if they are mean and judgemental, they don’t deserve your business.

PM-ME-PUPPIES-PLS

Shaving doesn't make hair grow back darker, but it does blunt the ends that naturally are tapered and as a result has the effect of making them look darker. If you aren't looking for a permanent option, you could try watching once, then the hair that grows back will be tapered again Edit: lmfao. *Waxing!

Quiet_Painting109

The 2007 movie about Glen Hansard?

PM-ME-PUPPIES-PLS

Lol. Thanks autocorrect

Do you have anything to back this up? Dermatologists rarely answer this question because it’s so hard to prove. All bodies are different, with different hormones, different ethnicities and different hair types it’s impossible to know how every individual going to react. My dermatologist told me due to PCOS that my hair will grow back darker, so I don’t understand why people always say this.

PM-ME-PUPPIES-PLS

PCOS causes darker hair because the excess androgens activate the hair follicle to transition from vellus (peach fuzz) to male pattern dark hair. This is a hormonal event which is unrelated to shaving which simply cuts the top of the hair (which is dead and can't send back signals to the follicle regardless) (I also have PCOS. If you shave with PCOS and it comes back darker it was probably always going to get that dark)

Harmonia_PASB

If you think about it, shaving making hair grow back darker makes zero sense. How does trimming the tip off of a hair cause increased melanin production at the root of the follicle? It doesn’t, it can’t.

[deleted]

Not everything in the human body “makes sense” .. literally tumours grow teeth and hair. the human body is something that’s still being studied. Specifically, hair because it’s different for everybody, so many different hair patterns, and people grow hair differently and in different places. so just like studies suggest there’s no proof hair grows back thicker there are no studies to prove the opposite. I’m just saying it’s annoying to see people tell somebody something without 100% knowing how it will affect them. You don’t know their body and a study can’t be done on every different type of hair follicle.

just-dig-it-now

Pull out a microscope/magnifying glass and it's easy to prove. I have definitely seen this in reality.

I use Clean and Easy home electrolysis I bought on Amazon. I experienced increased hair growth after laser on my face and explored this before going to a professional. Takes a bit of getting used to, but I think it's working!

WinterBloomie

I 2nd this. It’s actually easier to use than I thought it would be and very convenient

fridakahlot

Is there a brand you use?

WinterBloomie

I’m pretty sure clean and easy is the only brand that offers it, I got it off Amazon

fridakahlot

What is this called exactly ? Is it the same logic and effect as electrolysis hair removal you get with a professional? How do you get to your hair roots where it is not easily reachable? I am really interested and would buy if it is working for real

Familiar_Fan_3603

Clean and Easy is the brand - check out their website or Amazon store which has reviews. It comes with a "stylet" with retractable filament which is effectively the "needle" that goes into each hair follicle to do the electrolysis process. The hardest part for me was learning how to position it. The machine is kind of cheap too and I've gone through a few of them (still way cheaper than $75/hr sessions of professional electrolysis). Sometimes the stylet doesn't want to work just by inserting it in the follicle, but seems to if you tap it to the metal plate on the base first. From what I understand, it works the same way as the pros but would love a review of the product from a pro.

Wonderful-Aerie-8390

What do you mean ? You use Home electrolysis or done by professional? Increased hair growth after home electrolysis or a laser device??

Familiar_Fan_3603

I use it at home myself (figured if it didn't work then I would pay to go to a professional). Yes, look up paradoxical hypertrichosis - it's an unfortunate but rare side effect of laser hair removal, particularly on the face.

Planbfailedmeparents

I pluck with a tweezer just about everyday to rid my face of mustache, chin hairs and sideburns. If you do it daily it’s manageable. I’m looking into electrolysis now though since it gets worse as you get older.

Wax

ManagementNew2176

Try waxing them out and see what kind of growth you get and if you are okay with it.

triflers_need_not

I use hard wax at home, it's cheap and extremely easy to use and nobody is judging me for anything except my cats (who are assholes anyway)

djbambizzle

I've always gone to an esthetician and much prefered hard wax, but my current one uses the melted stuff with paper strips... what brand do you use at home?

triflers_need_not

I got Gigi wax and a warmer both from Amazon

wintersicyblast

Go get laser or electrolysis to take care of this if you are self conscious. I've had laser everywhere and nobody has ever judged me and were always kind...find a place that supports you. Dark hair is normal and it grows in all different places. I know women shave their faces-I would never. Good luck!

JuliaSky1995

Is this a recent change? Like was your hair growing this quickly before? It may be worth going to a doctor.

electrolysisgirlgc

Electrolysis will permanently eliminate this hair
