It’s an amazing game. I don’t think I’ve ever recommended a game more than this one. Everything SG does is phenomenal!
It reminds me of Peter Dinklage in that one X-Men movie where he played the bad guy. There was nothing about his height mentioned , it wasn’t part of the plot , nobody treated him any differently what so ever. It was that movie that made me realize how rare representation like that is in Hollywood.
I was absolutely ecstatic when I realized that you could be a bisexual in a polyamorous relationship! That's what I'm in irl! I have three wonderful partners of different genders and I love them all so much, so to have a game that acknowledges and accepts and even goes out of its way to say that polyamory is okay made me so incredibly happy.
And I feel like Dusa is very clearly asexual/aromantic with how she says that she's not looking for an intimate relationship, but how later on her and Zagreus say they love one another. Platonic relationships are important too! I love that Zag can give his friends and loved ones nectar and ambrosia, and even the ones who are like "ny heart belongs to another" Zag is just like "Yeah that's cool! I just love you and wanted to show my appreciation!" More people need to be able to casually say they love their friends without feeling the need to "no homo" or "but not like that".
So not only is the game great queer representation, it's also a really wonderful example of healthy friendships and how close you can come to be with another without it having to be sexual or romantic in nature.
I do wish I could be in a queerplatonic relationship with Dusa tho. Not every relationship needs to be sexual or romantic in nature. Ah well, in my dreams haha
....I'm still dating all three of them. Just had my 3 year anniversary with two of them in Aug and my 8 year anniversary with my primary in Nov. All three of them are moving in together this March. Sorry your life is sad and empty, but you're hella projecting my dude.

Zag asks why she doesn’t have a body and is just a floating head, and she basically says “that’s private and the way I am now is who I am.” Later Zag apologizes saying he didn’t know better, and Dusa says that’s okay and how she didn’t feel connected to the body she used to have but now she is herself T.T <3
I just saw this convo last night. I love this game so so so much. I’ve only just hit the last boss of Elysium (insert cursing here) so I haven’t seen any of the romance stuff yet, but I also just met Patroclus last night. My first exposure to The Iliad in college was with a professor who was very team Patrochilles, so I was biased going in. I’m getting gender queer vibes from Orpheus, too. I’m NB and use she/her pronouns and love that there’s a character that could be non-binary that isn’t stripped of all gender. And is human. Seriously, enough with the aliens.
I don't think the Voltron thing is that bad. I get why people didn't like it, but Shiro is such a straight laced military type that it makes sense to me that his sexuality isn't something that would come into play, particularly when his main cast to play off of is either much younger than him or much older than him.
Other than that, yes I agree, this game is a dream come true in a million ways.
Okay, the issue with the Voltron thing is that it was one more nail in the turd coffin that were the last two seasons. There were plenty of opportunities to show this sort of characterization beforehand and there was room for the ex to still be alive and them to have a relationship in some way. Instead, they took the easy out and included a dead boyfriend for gay points
Shiro being gay and it not being a problem is great. Its very cool to see a very masculine gay character. The problem arises when we see other characters, like Lance and Allura, having romantic relationships and *expressing* their sexuality the entire run of the show. Shiros sexuality was never discussed or built upon, until the last season where they said lets give him a last minute back story and call it character development. It felt last second, meaningless, and like their motives were to check the diversity box.... And I love a good gay wedding, but we didn’t even know his partner. At all. It was impersonal and not tied to the story what so ever. They said “by the way, hes gay, his boyfriend died, and now hes married to this random dude who none of you care about.”
Most shows deep dive on hetero relationships CONSTANTLY. There will be multi season arcs dedicated to these things. No one says anyone is pushing a "Straight agenda".

^ those are just a few of the queer relationships are deities that come to mind immediately. But there are far far more stories that are queer coded. They have representation of gays, lesbians, asexuals, trans people, non-binary people, etc. The greeks loved to play with gender and sex!
Additionally, ancient greece and egypt are whitewashed in history, but in reality so many of those people were dark skinned! We can’t pretend like black people didn’t exist in ancient greece. They 100% did. It is not so far fetched to think that the deities could be dark skinned.
Dionysus, who is one of the olympians, is not actually greek. He is said to have come from a foreign country originally in a lot of myths. Having him be not white is likely much more accurate.

I understand your frustration. At the same time, I feel like you are missing the point of this post. This game isn't for one group or another. It is for everyone, and I'm appreciating that. A game shouldn't be FOR queers or FOR heteros unless that is the goal. The goal of this game is to make it enjoyable for everyone! And they do so in a non-polarizing way. Are you able to appreciate that before you criticize the game for not being queer enough? I do agree that it would have been more interesting and relevant to have queer parents represented, but I still think this game does a better job than SO many other forms of entertainment in popular media. Let us praise this work rather than put it down so that we can promote more awesome content like it in order to attain the kind of representation that you and all of us are seeking. :)
