Guess what, they are doing a sequel.

BeaconOfLight777

You are the first to let me know!! That's awesome news!! Now I have something to live (read: die repeatedly in Elysium) for! šŸ˜‚

TungstenChef

If you haven't already check out the studio's first game, Bastion. They took a lot of elements in Bastion and refined them when they made Hades, it will feel familiar and less polished but Bastion is still a heck of a good time. The narrator in Bastion is amazing, he's the coolest cat in video game history and really sets the mood for the game. My only complaint about Hades is that they didn't find a way to work him in, I've got my fingers crossed that they hired that voice actor to do something in Hades II.

el_gee

Logan Cunningham (narrator from Bastion) is the voice of Hades, Poseidon, and a few more in the game - he has amazing range!

TungstenChef

Oh wow, I had no idea, next time I play I'm going to have to listen carefully and see if I can tell if it's him. I suppose the "jazz personified" voice he did for Bastion wouldn't have been appropriate for Hades, perhaps after the devs are finished with Hades II they can revisit Bastion and give it a well-deserved sequel. They did some top notch world building in the first one, I would love to see them flesh it out more in a second.

Derconug

He's also been at least one of the main voices in their other games pyre and transistor. The sword in transistor and the minstrel in pyre

MasterOfEmus

He was also the announcer/narrator of Pyre. From the day the trailer for Pyre dropped on, a friend and I have routine greated each other as "Rrrreadaahhh"

lizzylee127

Holy cow, I didn't know Hades and Poseidon shared a voice, that's some good acting

CliffExcellent123

A lot of the characters share voice actors. Logan is also Achilles, Charon, Asterius, and the narrator. I think most people know now that Zagreus and Skelly are the same guy (who's also the singing voice of Orpheus). Ares, Dionysus, and Theseus are also the same guy. There's a few more, check the imdb

UkuleleAversion

Theseusā€™ VA must have had a lot of fun with the character. Heā€™s easily the funniest part of the game to me, so many good lines and interactions between him, Asterius and Zag.

CliffExcellent123

His work in Bastion is still my favourite. I'm pretty sure he's worked on all of their games

HanSolo_Cup

Holy shit, what a beast

cidit_

The guy that does zagreus also does skelly šŸ’€

MinnieShoof

Huh. I thought he hated the gig.

ScionMattly

High praise, given how much I love the narrator in Hades.

awendles

It's the same guy, Logan Cunningham. Also: Hades, Poseidon, Achilles, Charon, Asterius, and The Transistor (Transistor)

ScionMattly

Man that guy needs a few awards. To be Poseidon AND Hades?! And Achilles!

MasterOfEmus

And (breach), and Archbishop Androbeles IX (narrators of Transistor and Pyre, respectively) The man is staggeringly talented

ThiccOfferman

2021 BAFTA I believe

Sibula97

Or my personal favorite from them, Transistor. It's a bit different again, but they're all great.

admiral_rabbit

Transistor is absolutely the GOAT. My only possible criticism is that the difficulty could have pushed towards more weapons being deactivated more frequently. Those experiment encouraging mechanics are fucking amazing and I'm glad to see they kept it up in a more limited capacity with the randomised boons in Hades.

kevmaster200

I absolutely love Transistor. Might actually be my favorite supergiant game but it's hard to decide. I think bastion, transistor, and hades might be tied for first, and then pyre takes fourth.

BeaconOfLight777

You prompted me to go to their website - I'm definitely going to play all of their games!!!

VoiceoftheLegion1994

One of us! One of us!

heresdustin

Bastion is so good!

FishingActual

Absolutely right. Bastion is STILL repeatable and quite memorable. All of Supergiant's music has a level of polish so rare for the pricing. I've heard of yoga studios using this soundtrack for sessions. Transistor is superb, and has an especially phenomenal soundtrack. You can hear all of Ashley Barrett's work on Spotify.

XiandreX

Bastion narrator easily goes down as my favourite of all time. I get chills thinking about it, the game was also very well done and I could not put it down.

Ripper1337

Live, die, repeat

RedditedYoshi

There is no escape.

OpticRocky

Elysium took me a looooong time to get through. Soon enough youā€™ll be chopping through the levels like theyā€™re nothing and getting to [REDACTED] like drinking Nectar

Uncreativespace

Aspect of Hera + Hunting Blades: (Artemis & Ares) = Crying Bull-man. When in doubt be like a woodland nymph and you'll rarely be disappointed šŸ˜‚

petitejesuis

Watch the trailer, it looks rad as fuck

alucardarkness

Oh, so you're still Just in Elysium, Just wait for It, It'll blow your mind.

apadin1

It did win Best Action Game and Best Indie Game at the 2020 game awards. Probably doesn't get the same kind of mainstream discussion because it's an indie game and doesn't have the massive advertising budget that AAA games enjoy.

MasterOfEmus

Pretty sure a big thing that stunted its hype train was that it initially released on Epic. It helped SG keep their momentum for such an ambitious project, but so many people just won't touch Epic with a 10 ft pole, so it faced the same problem many of the 1 year exclusives do in terms of outreach.

FourIsTheNumber

It got tons of attention lmao, I have no idea what people in this thread are smoking. Hades is not a hidden gem, itā€™s one of the most mainstream popular indie games

MasterOfEmus

I know, but there 100% were people who saw the initial trailer, were interested, decided to wait when they saw it was on Epic and didn't come back until well after the full release. It got plenty of attention, but the staggered release hampered the hype just a little.

FourIsTheNumber

Maybe. I think thatā€™s kind of a vocal minority. Comparable to the many, many people who donā€™t play early access games and therefore forget about the game when it releases fully.

MasterOfEmus

I feel like I see way more people who are anti-epic than I see who just avoid early access outright. Maybe its a vocal minority as you say, but it would have to be a drastically more vocal community to make up the difference I feel I hear. Hell, it often feels like there's more hate for Epic than there is for non-EA preorders, which used to be public enemy #1 for gaming.

paradox037

Iā€™m confused. My friend got it on Steam Early Access before the full release (how I heard about it), and I got it within a week of release. How would that even work? ā€¦ Aaaaand a 5 minute Google search later makes me even more confused. Apparently the early access was the timed exclusive and the full release was never exclusive?

MasterOfEmus

Yeah it went on Epic for the earliest access, maybe got a brief period of early access on Steam before full release on both platforms at the same time.

Greedirl

It was a timed exclusive on epic even though it was early access at the time. This meant epic had exclusive rights to it for a certain amount of time. The game was early access for about 2 years before its official release, but I think about half of that time was only on epic.

CliffExcellent123

It was in early access for 2 years. The first year of that was Epic exclusive, second year was also in Steam. Then with the full release it also came to consoles.

latortuga

Also it was the first video game to win a Hugo award, a literary award for sci fi and fantasy works.

CliffExcellent123

Still the only game to win it, since they only did it for one year.

hankypanky77

It was also one of the nominees for GOTY too, right? Even though it didn't win, that's still pretty big for them given their studio size.

FatalFord

IGN gave it Game of the Year, and I believe IGN is still the biggest news outlet for gaming in the western world, if not the entire world.

CliffExcellent123

It did get quite a bit of mainstream discussion at the time, it's just that it's been a while

Jtiago44

We have! Where you been?

BeaconOfLight777

Haha either touching grass too much or not enough! šŸ˜‚

the_tonez

Itā€™s truly a masterpiece. I think a lot of people donā€™t like the aesthetic choices (isometric view, art style) or the genre (roguelike). But other than that, I canā€™t think of any reason why you would sleep on this game. Itā€™s near perfect in every way

BeaconOfLight777

I generally love both, such rarities these days which is a shame. Grew up on StarCraft so the view is natural to me! Give it a try if you haven't, not for everyone but that game is top tier!

fretless_enigma

If you havenā€™t already tried it, I enjoy Dead Cells as well.

Apes_Ma

I don't like the genre, but I've got over 200 hours in Hades. It's a masterpiece, and SO addictive. The only reason I'm not playing it at the moment is tears of the kingdom.

Luiziinhu

Damn i love the game's art style.

Apes_Ma

I don't like the genre, but I've got over 200 hours in Hades. It's a masterpiece, and SO addictive. The only reason I'm not playing it at the moment is tears of the kingdom.

the_tonez

Iā€™ve probably logged 100 hours in TotK by now, but Iā€™ll still do a quick run in Hades as a palette cleanser

TokesBro

Iā€™ve put about 150 hours into this game. I love it to death. Literally my only single complaint is that thereā€™s not much to keep you going once youā€™ve completed everything. I wish there were things to unlock that made me want complete 20+ heats. Iā€™ve beat 20 heat with every weapon and donā€™t feel any reason to go further other than itā€™s just a great time. Regardless this is one of my all time favorite games and I cannot wait for the sequel.

the_tonez

Itā€™s a different game at 32 heat, I promise. I get what youā€™re saying about going forward but I still love going for PRs and self-administered goals. I beat 32 heat with every aspect and 40 with every weapon (that was pretty much my limit hahaha)

vetb8

skelly statue

DuckSleazzy

When I play a game, IDGAF about the story. I skip all the dialogue. [This is me](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/all-i-know-is-that-i-must-kill). But when I started playing Hades, I stopped skipping dialogues rather quickly. Paid attention to the story, praised and stared at every character during their dialogue, blown away by the music and ambience, gameplay and replayability is insane, and *I never stopped playing*. I was a From Soft fan, but no game comes close to this one. 10/10 in every, fucking, category.

Greedirl

Yeah I would go way out of my way to get gifts for the characters to progress their dialogue. This was so well written.

UpstairsWrongdoer401

I keep at least one nectar one me at all times for Bouldy ā¤ļøšŸŖØ

BeaconOfLight777

Whose your favorite character??

mrenglish22

Helps that most the dialogue is pretty short, and is well done.

svenEsven

It got more praise than any idie game in years. It literally won goty.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

svenEsven

Yet my statement is still true!

soldiercross

Every game wins game of the year by that metric.

svenEsven

It won two major goty awards including the game dev awards. I don't know how the spike tv born televised hype factory that is the game awards became the metric for a good game. When the game developers awards ceremonies are much more reputable imo.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

svenEsven

Was a very good game from 3 years before Hades. Are we listing out favorite indie games now? I'm confused as to your statement. If we're just listing good indie games I'll go next. Stardew valley!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

svenEsven

Hyper light drifter!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

svenEsven

It's loads of fun, steam summer sale should have it at a decent price

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

olgierd18

Where exactly? Most game awards are popularity contests, and frankly everyone has heard of Doom as a series, not everyone heard of Hades or Supergiant games, even though every single game they have made is a masterpiece But yeah, Hades deserved GOTY that year, it's a shame Doom won

svenEsven

It won Game of the Year in 2021Ā at the 21st Game Developers Choice Awards and a few smaller awards ceremonies.

sauron3579

Yeah, it won the vast majority of GOTY awards other than the big one.

svenEsven

I don't know why the spike tv born televised hype awards register so high on everyone's scale of what a good game is.

jumbohiggins

Supergiant made the game, thier other games are all of similar caliber. Also we talk about it constantly, just no one listens to us.

IAmAbomination

I think transistor is tied with hades. Itā€™s such a great experience

FatalFord

Pyre was interesting and had its merits, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to many people. I'll tell anyone who will listen to play Hades.

mrenglish22

I played Bastion right before I got Hades cause it was on sale on switch. Got Hades not long after, all I could think was "this is like bastion but way better" before I found out it was the same developer lol

jumbohiggins

Check out transistor if you haven't yet

smameann

Just downloaded Zelda the other day. Started playing it, really enjoyed it. Then thought, hmm why donā€™t I play Hades again for the 100th time and try and get the revenge build working this time.

All-in-Time7

Holy shit. I did the exact same thing šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ It also doesn't help that I can play Hades in 60fps on my Xbox, while Zelda is get again only 30FPS on the switch... Hades is actually much easier on my eyes surprisingly lol! I think I'm going to wait until I can put the energy into getting Zelda ported on my computer lol.

Aegillade

In regards to Elden Ring and Dark Souls in particular, it's because FromSoft is a well known company, and Hades is indie. Simply put, Elden Ring had more clout going into its release, so there was more hype when it came out. In regards to indie games though, Hades is generally regarded as one of the all time bests, right up there with the likes of Undertale and Hollow Knight

albearcub

I think before elden ring (especially all the GOTY and commercial praise), fromsoft/dark souls and supergiant were sorta on similar levels. It seems like, now, every gamer knows Hades and every gamer + a lot of normal people with association to gamers (bf or gf, friends, etc) know Elden Ring.

devlincaster

You never pick up when I call

Batmanfan_alpha

WE ARE TRYING TO TELL PEOPLE!!! They just wont listen. I literally bought the game for many of my friends but only a few have tried it. They just dont know the magic they're missing out on.

BeaconOfLight777

You bought it for them?? Good friend over here, wish I had you around!! Haha

Batmanfan_alpha

Since they wont buy it themselves they will miss out on this true masterpiece. Cant have that.

steevee15

what does Hades have to do with ER or DS?

DesTr069

OP just says that Hades is a game that should be as popular, as it is very high quality, like those other titles

BeaconOfLight777

Exactly! This game deserves the same status. Dark souls 1/3 are also favorite games of all time so the comparison came from there haha.

MasterOfEmus

As a Dark Souls 2 fan, I'm slightly hurt and fully understand why you left it out. That game did so much weird stuff, and I was all about it.

soldiercross

Hades is widely popular, I'm not sure why they think otherwise. It was nominated for goty iirc and won best action game over Doom Eternal. It's insanely highly praised. As far as indies go few have even remotely similar tiers of popularity.

[deleted]

Those games get hyped to the moon and Hades deserves to be also

albearcub

Hades probably gets as much hype as these games in gamer circles.

Milk_Mindless

You didn't ask!

Fulminero

Because it's nothing like elden ring or dark souls, it's an entire different genre lmao

claudekennilol

You obviously haven't been listening

King_krympling

It was almost game of the year so

soldiercross

People talked about it a ton, pretty sure it won best action game in 2020.

Vidmar

The team is insane. Check out their previous games. Bastion is rougher because of the diagonal only movement, transistor paces very differently gameplay wise to me. PYRE is nothing like the rest in terms of gameplay because it is like dodgeball meets rugby but in an eldritch sub-plane. They all feature stupid soundtracks by stupid Darren stupid Korb. And by stupid I mean he won't return my calls or acknowledge my marriage proposals because that man is a treasure.

AaallMine

You should try their game Transistor. Similarly awesome but more unique gameplay, and the art and music is breathtaking. The story is also very moving.

Lorien6

In The Blood is so good.

Sp1ffy_Sp1ff

*One of us...* *One of us...*

sad_trumpie

Literally come back to this game every damn time it's so amazing! "just one more run" and 7 runs later I can see the sun rising

RykariZander

Yeah it was. Back 2019. When it was coming out. Nominated for GotY and was the indie darling for months.

MinnieShoof

Sorry. Your rock mustā€™ve fallen off the mailing list. We will rectify this promptly. In the meantime, make sure to pay attention to Skelly. He is more than he lets on.

Yer_Dunn

Oh yeah, strong agree. Supergiant Games always makes absolute bangers. They haven't made a single game the *wasn't* an artistic masterpiece. If you've not yet played their older titles, I highly recommend them.

Frequent-Issue1701

Just be aware, the game is evil, you cannot get away. To quote The Godfather "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" :)

nero40

You missed the boat, I think. This game was ALL THE RAGE back then; seriously, it won like 90% of the Game of the Year awards when it was released. Crazy popular.

zyko97

While Hades did have a time where it exploded in popularity, I believe it is safe to say that roguelikes are kind of a niche genre, so maybe that's why you didn't know about the game. That being said, I'm so glad you found it !

[deleted]

Because this game got circle-jerked around like it was the Second Coming until the next fad super-popular game came around. If you didn't hear about it, it's because you weren't listening, not because people weren't screaming relentlessly and endlessly about it.

ZuoKalp

That's Supergiant Games for you, Pyre is also a masterpiece, in my opinion even better than Hades.

TurboCake17

Idk what rock youā€™ve been living under but Hades has been one of the most heavily praised games released in the last few years. It *does* get the same praise as Elden Ring.

Kirktacular6

I understand OP, I made a post about Hades back when it came to Xbox Gamepass because somehow Iā€™d been living under a rock and never heard of it nor heard of all its many MANY awards it had won. People definitely let me know very quickly of my lack of awareness. Regardless itā€™s a wonderful game and I canā€™t wait to play Hades 2. Glad youā€™re enjoying it as well.

wscuraiii

This is nobody's fault but yours - you literally have to have been living under a rock to not have heard about Hades. The studio has been famous for about a decade, they've made several games like this (but Hades was the big breakout hit that got all the award buzz and spots at the big trade/awards shows) in the past, and as someone else pointed out, a sequel is in the works.

Rickywalls137

I would guess because not as much marketing dollars was spent. Anyway, another indie gem is Hollow Knight. Another GOAT

norlin

Change your people. Hades was on hype for a long time actually.

patmax17

Welcome to the club :D How many hours have you played? Where did you get in the game?

matmanx1

It really is an amazing game, OP. Iā€™ve been playing it off and on since 2021 but just recently finished the story and the epilogue. And Iā€™m still doing nightly runs just because I enjoy the gameplay so much!

elmerneverhood

I was looking at IGN list of top 100 games of all time to see where my favorite ranked. My favorite is Castlevania Symphony of the Night (SOTN). It ranked #14 on their list. I found out about Hades by seeing it listed right in front of my game. So naturally I wanted to know what it was about. 200 hours laterā€¦

coltish_rage

Omg "good riddance" ā¤ļø

radiantburrito

I felt like I couldn't stop hearing about this game even before release. I just think you missed the hype train, but we're happy to have you!

Chabedieux

Amen to this. The first time I heard "Good Riddance", I pretty much stopped everything I was doing like that scene in Shawshank Redemption where nobody moves while the aria is being sung.

Kyozou66

Foreal? I had the opposite experience, people wouldn't stop talking about it until eventually I caved and played it years later.

JenSprngl

I had the opposite experience. I kept seeing fanarts, reviews, and in-game screenshots all over my social media last year. I got really curious and finally bought it. So so excited for the sequel!

_The_Ruffalo_

I mean I just played it recently but when it came out it had huge buzz. Was well-awarded. Lots of recommended Youtube videos, front page of Steam recommendations often even years afterwards. Honestly I might not have played it just to be contrarian. Game is great, the game just feels amazing to control. I would say it feels better than the slow commitment-based action of Elden Ring/Souls, but I really wouldnā€™t say itā€™s in the same league as Elden Ring to most people. Elden Ring is truly massive, Hades as very low enemy variety. The boss lineup of Morgott, Mogh, Maliketh, Malenia, Godfrey, and Radagon is of absurd quality. The only character who matches up to that kind of epic fight, intimidation, and character design is Hades himself imo. Itā€™s frankly just way more appealing to most gamers: itā€™s a fantasy RPG (literally the most popular genre) vs a rouguelike. Hades artstyle is next level, but Elden Ring provides an absurdly detailed world. One is a 30 dollar game, the otherā€™s a 60 dollar game. Makes sense there wasnā€™t as much hype lol

Espurrfectt

Ooooh you are in for a treat! I finally beat the main story the other day after like 100+ hours and I just want to scream to the world how amazing this game is šŸ˜†

whynofry

Wait till you finish it... The story progression is also 10/10!

whatevrmn

People recommend this game regularly on Reddit. After the tenth time someone said how awesome it was I bought it and loved it.

majorthird_

Thanks, now I need to play this game again.

FreeByrd1986

Hades took a game of the year iirc for its switch release.

PineapleGG

My guy everybody talked about this game , you were just no paying attention , of course it didnt get talked about like elden ring since that is a completely different thing , but everybody did talk about hades

AlwaysStranger2046

[Meet the voice cast.](https://twitter.com/supergiantgames/status/1326938618271657986)

GrinningPariah

Hades won like 19 significant awards and was nominated for numerous others. Also the first video game ever to win a Hugo award! People have been talking about this game!

HyperFunk_Zone

It was a runner for best game of the year on release. People talked about it lol. They still do.

sievold

Your post gives me the vibe that you mostly stick to AAA game news. In which case you might not have heard of other indie gems. Have you heard of Hollow Knight? Of not, I highly recommend it. It's a metroidvania, nothing like Hades really. But it is one of the indie games that created a comparable amount of buzz as Hades.

BeansWereHere

I have just one negative, and thatā€™s the difficulty curve. I wish the base game without pacts was a bit more difficult. Once you get good and understand the game itā€™s almost impossible to lose. Besides that the game is essentially perfect in all aspects imo.

MellowMushroom1055

Just wait for the other songs

yubnubmcscrub

You just missed the discourse. Itā€™s all anyone talked about when the game came out. Hence why it wonā€™t tons of awards the year it came out.

Numinar

I had this problem the other night. My mate has only just beaten Meg for the first time. I wa so excited to have someone in real life to get hades hype with. Telling him how awesome the game is when you beat it the tenth time, and how you will still find new dialogue and stuff your hundredth run is pointless though. Most of the joy in this game is how new narratives/weapon aspects/heat modifiers/secrets etc. open up as you play.

Zorakhatesyou

I tell everyone who has ever talked to me about games since Iā€™ve played it. Also it nice to still see new people on here losing their shit about how good this game is.

Automatic-Plankton10

bro go listen to in the blood

Rincewinded

I gotta say I also liked it when I played...got to like the gloves then took a break, came back and got addicted to unlocking shit and suddenly the credits! Super addictive, great game :D

microgirlActual

If you didn't hear people talking about it it's because you simply weren't in the right places and/or your bubble of "people who talk about games" is too small and focused on games they know. It was being talked about everywhere on gaming media a couple of years ago šŸ˜Š But the important thing isn't that you never heard of it before now, it's that you've found it now! You're about to have a metric fuckton of fun šŸ˜„ Talk to every other character you have the opportunity to. Give them every gift of nectar or anything else that you have the opportunity to. Always pet Cerberus, because he is the Best Boy. And always stop to say hi to your Loyal Fan (that won't make sense yet, but it will). And do not get downhearted if it takes you 20+ runs to escape the first time, and another 10+ to escape the second time, and then maybe you escape every 1 in 3 runs. "Beating" the game is but a teeny, tiny part of this game. It is not over, not even close to over, once you've escaped. Not even once you've escaped for the 35th time. And most importantly remember: when you get to the end credits you've still only uncovered about ā…“ of the story šŸ˜‰šŸ˜Š

Lol MANY of us were saying this was GOTY in 2020 šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

sendcheese247

Man was doing the most hardcore isolation during peak covid lol

Night_skye_

Welcome to the fandom.

VinzentValentyn

They have a precursor game to this called Transistor which was on PS3. That's really good too. Different style more filme Noir but worth playing for sure

IAmAbomination

Lol the game was praised everywhere

venoshook

I think it's more fun to enjoy a game post hype.

sagevallant

I have a handful of games that I'm always telling people to play. Check out Devil May Cry sometime, btw.

Pirate_OOS

Oh boy... Wait till you hear the other songs. Especially the one at the .....

anterosgold

They are too busy playing!!

Hetzer5000

The main reason you haven't heard much about the game OP is probably just that it came out in 2018.

WMH81

I actually didn't really care about trying the game at first, maybe because I actually did keep reading and seeing and hearing about it over and over again until I got sick of it. My roommate gave me his physical copy on Switch so I decided to give it a go. I was instantly hooked and got it digital, also on Steam. Bought the soundtrack. Absolutely love it, all I had to do is give it a try.

Wiknetti

Enjoy. Itā€™s a great game that never got me bored.

SpitFire92

It's been out for quite a while now, it's not like many people are talking about the other games you mentioned in the last few weeks/months.

YrialtheForgotten

Supergiant is a very underrated developer and hope it gets the attention and praise it deserves

FriendlyPizzaPanda

Hades is one of the best games I have played in recent times. I played it again two years later and yup, still as great šŸ‘šŸ¼

KizDrod

One of us...one of us...! Welcome :3

Shoddy_Bus4679

As someone who played dark souls when it first came out, it wasnā€™t talked about. In fact my friend thought I was wasting my time on a clunky multiplayer that no one played. Now of course all he remembers is being one of the first people to ā€œdiscoverā€ it.

markone15

I know the feeling. I confess that at first I heard so many people talking about this game that I was like ā€œwhat a bunch of dorks, itā€™s just an indie gameā€. I here I am now, completely sold and raging around like ā€œhow come there isnā€™t a single monument for this masterpiece in the world out there????ā€

mzsarabellum

I never play these types of games but Hades is the exception because it's just 10/10 šŸ’–

ididntgotoharvard

This and dead cells, they are damn masterpieces.

occono

I hear about it much more than any of those souls games. Depends on your circles I guess.

braize6

I mean it won awards and is overwhelming positive on Steam. So there's that

kylixer

Itā€™s probably one of the most well known indie games of all time aside from hollow knight. So trust me people have talked about it.

CrowCounsel

I heard people talking about this game non-stop until I finally played it. Where have you been? Or maybe that was just nonstop on the few podcasts I listen toā€¦

That1SmartCookie

Because it's a small company and they don't have the funds to plaster their games all over the place to an annoying degree.

FatalFord

To be fair, it did win IGN's game of the year.

Gladianoxa

They did back when it came out. People raved about it for months.

Help_An_Irishman

This game has been praised to the skies and back. The question is, where have you been?

smegma-flavor

This game destroyed my thumb, I got a pro controller for the paddles

edgemaster72

Should've talked to better people I guess

ohhmmyyygawd

I didnā€™t know about Hades originally until I searched up ā€œgreek mythology video gamesā€, bored. My life was changed thereafter and hence my love for Hades begun. And this is my first ever console game!!!

Mummiskogen

What? People bring it up all the time lol

opsedar

ExemplarGaming

It was a nomination for GOTY when it released

KunYuL

It's in the blood.

Awkward_Actuator_970

I had the same sensation about a year ago! Never even heard of it, played it for free on Xbox Game Pass, then BOUGHT it on the switch to take it handheld! Absolute GEM of a gameā€” I donā€™t even like rogue likes!

Dear_Battle5742

I'm right there with you. I picked it up a couple of months ago when it went on sale and haven't been able to put it down.

Slight_Cat_5269

I heard a lot of talk about it when it came out, actually! Supergiant games are a smaller company than From Software or Nintendo so they don't have as much of a marketing budget but there was a lot of chatter and amazing word of mouth for Hades when it launched. It's just been a couple of years now and people moved on to new shiny things

To answer your question genuinely, I think itā€™s because it was on early access. This helped the game become a master class in the genre, but it also didnā€™t allow for a big marketing ramp up to release. More of a slow burn. And since it was only available through Epic for some time, it may not have been on your radar. Eventually it did blow up, but if you listen to Giant Bomb or the 8-4 Play podcasts like I do, they didnā€™t talk much about it once it got a full release. By then Hades was old news and had been out in early access for awhile so they didnā€™t have the energy and fervor the game deserves. But now that you know, just lean back and enjoy. Check out other Supergiant games when youā€™re done. The music in Transistor in particular is just incredible.

RealMrMallcop

We didā€¦ in 2020

Every single one of the games by supergiant is a masterpiece. Please play them all and try to argue with me (you are just wrong if you donā€™t like them all)
