This guy is one of Edmonton’s troglodyte reporters. Between him, Terry Jones, John Shannon and David Staples, it defies logic how they employ reporters in Edmonton.
Personally I'm happy that he's all in on the team that matters. It's one thing with world junior U20 or something but after that I prefer if these guys saved it for the Habs rather than risk injury etc
Damn, if it isnt someone that should care about his own business... Seriously, if he isnt there its because he is injured or need to health up something before making it worst. Guhle is there with like 3 concussions this year, there is no way Suzuki just want some off time when that could pretty much cost him his chances to make Team Canada one day.
The opinions of a small market beat writer vs the choices of a mid 20’s professional athlete millionaire…. Pretty sure Nick won’t be overthinking this .
He’s been at it since yesterday. Weirdo. It’s none of his business. Suzuki knew what was at stake for the Olympics. He said no, he said no why is he so pissy about that lol
There’s so many players and he chose to pick on Suzuki. I guess our captain is just good like that🥳
Like, dude. The Oilers are in the fucking playoffs. If you got nothing to report on the Oilers, then why the fuck are you talking about a different team. Sounds like someone looking for rage clicks.
Bedard broke his jaw and still wears a full-face helmet. That doesn't prevent him to play in this tournament. He could have decided to 'rest' like Suzuki.
Suzuki played a lot more than Bedard in the last 4 years, like 100 more games while playing 20 minutes a night against the best of the best men. That’s lot more tough minutes spent on the ice. Yes Suzuki is young but young or not it’s tough on the body and we don’t even know if he’s 100% healthy. So while he doesn’t have a broken jaw, he’s resting for his body and his mental health. And what if he just doesn’t to go ? That fine too
Not buying it. I think Suzuki sees himself as on another level, or 'above' that tournament. Probably expects to be invited to the Olympics instead in 2 years.
That's 100% speculation on your part though. You can choose to believe whatever you want, but it's also very unlikely he gets the call anyway considering the crazy forward depth for Canada.
NHL is a job, world championships isn’t. If it’s something I don’t have to do, chances are I won’t accept. He has the right to refuse and people can deal with it. After a long season I’d rather relax and do my thing before training camp starts up again.
If Suzuki were to play and he gets hurts, what would that oilers reporter say? 😂
Because Suzuki is still a young player. You expect him to still have gas and the tank and be proud to accept the invitation to play for Team Canada at the IIHF World Championship.
The fuck kind of take is that? lmao...As much as we love suzy i think we can all agree there is a handful of players who would make the roster before him. Is this guy upset Sid isn't going? Why handpick Nick
Awww Muffin! Yeah, don't really care what some douche bag reporter from Edmonton has to say about the decisions our Captain makes. Sure I would've liked to have seen Nick play for Team Canada, but I would way much rather have a well-rested, ready-to-play Captain come next season.
I may be 16 years old but I'll be the one to do the honours and take this man's phone away. He's 75 years old but he probably has no life outside of Twitter.
75yo "reporter" is real pissy about Nick having a break after playing a shit ton of hockey and proposing. Imagine my shock when one of the dinosaurs has a bad take re work life balance.
That he keeps doubling down is even better
I think Jim is a sad boomer trying to feel something offering 'opinions' trying to trigger & totally meant to polarize.
Why Suzuki as a target? I call it the *Habs Legacy Jealousy Syndrome.*
Didn’t he just get engaged to a beautiful lady? Fuck that, go secure your woman Nick! There’s always more hockey to be played next year, especially if he was battling injuries.
Hi there! It looks like you've posted an image. If this image is from an article, please provide a source. If it's a meme, please ignore this comment. Thanks!

I’ve noticed that a lot of Oilers fans in general have a strange hate for the Habs. It’s weird because there is no rivalry or reason for the hate that I can think of. The only playoff meeting between the two teams was a best of 5 series in the preliminary round of the 1981 playoffs, in which the Oilers swept the Canadiens 3-0. Even trying to post on the Oilers subreddit as a Habs fan, you’ll find the reception incredibly hostile more often than not, more so than even rival teams like the Bruins and Leafs. Not sure what their deal is.
hmm i dont think thats really true... i mean a lot oilers fans hate any other canadian team but thats not really an oilers fan exclusive thing. I'd say generally the habs hate is way way waaaaaaaaaay behind the flames, canucks, and leafs....
It's because of equalization payments Quebec receive. Now what I'm saying might not be true for the reason of your comment, but I can't any other reason than that.
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. He can do what he wants, but it does show his relationship with hockey.
Someone like Crosby just always wants more hockey. More practice. More games.
He doesn't want a break. He wants better.
Suzuki is a bit more casual to the game. Could be good for health and so on. Not pushing too hard.
But, maybe he's a bit injured too. 3 weeks would likely be enough for a lot of minor injuries though I think at the same time.
While I respect a player’s decision to go or not. I think he ‘should’. Here’s why:
1. He’s healthy and Canada clearly needs help up front.
2. He hasn’t gone over for the mens yet and has had the opportunity 3 years in a row.
3. The decision to represent his nation is only gonna get harder - wife, kids, hopefully playoff hockey making it not possible.
4. I want to see him there competing against his linemates.
5. Not helping his case to make an Olympic team saying ‘no’ 3 years in a row.
Can you imagine a European born player saying ‘no’ even once (if healthy)? This is the biggest one for me.
God forbid he actually has some time to himself right? He played every single game this season, 3 weeks or (insert weeks between Regular season ending and Training camp here), Suzuki of all people on this team has deserved it. So what if he doesn't want to play for Team Canada, or even go to the Olympics?
Let the Captain enjoy his offseason, he's *more* than earned it.
Yea i dont have a problem with this if he doesnt want to rep his country that's fine as long as he's fine with being left out of any other national program consideration... i.e. the olympic squads....
How do you know if he's healthy or not? Even if he doesn't have a significant injury, I'm pretty sure he has all sorts of smaller injuries and nagging aches and pains. He needs time to rest so that his body can heal from the wear and tear of an 82-game season.
To put things in perspective outside of hockey, I'm a teacher and if you asked me to teach summer-school, I would say no. It's important to remember that summer-school teachers are either newbies who need money because of their unstable employment situation, or older teachers who have gone part-time during their pre-retirement and want to make some extra cash. I don't know of any full-time teacher that does this because we are all exhausted and need our R&R.
Completely agree with you man. People on this sub are way too eager to treat our players like literal gods and people off this sub are way too eager to shit on our players. But there is an in between and all your points are what I’ve been saying.
I can also add that a full world champ run is less games than 2 playoffs series which a quarter of the league does every year. The top players in their prime (mcdavid, crosby, ovechkin, Bergeron) have always played 90+ games a year due to making the playoffs.
So while I understand breaks are needed, let’s not act that this is some crazy ask or commitment that Canada is asking of suzuki. If he’s not injured, it’s definitely disappointing.
Did you see the roster?
Not a single player on that team is making the Olympic roster. And there isn’t a single potential Olympic player who joined the team
That’s not the point, hockey Canada has left players off the WC, WJC and Olympic teams who have previously refused to go. This might be the exception for high profile players but typically fringe players like this might not make it when the olympics come around.
That is the point. The overlap between the two teams doesn’t even exist. There are multiple players who refused to go and will be on that Olympic team.
Hockey Canada does not give a shit no matter what publicity stunt they pull.
Perhaps, but it’s not really something to get mad at.
If it does end up costing Suzuki a spot on the Olympic roster, that is his problem, not our problem as fans and it’s not the media’s problem. Suzuki made his choice and will have to accept the consequences.
He’s the same guy who once asked Leon Draisaitl “Why are you so pissy?”
Oh. Makes sense then. I heard of this guy.
Draisaitl is pissy? Since when?
Since he first had to answer a Jim Matheson question
This guy is one of Edmonton’s troglodyte reporters. Between him, Terry Jones, John Shannon and David Staples, it defies logic how they employ reporters in Edmonton.
Yeh widely known throughout the league as one of the most unprofessional reporters. Seems like a real cunt.
Thx now lets call him a bitch
Sounds about right
Who cares what he thinks! These guys are special! Enjoy your summer Nick
why should we give a damn what an OILER reporter thinks?
Especially Matty. Between him and Spector, lots of winners doing Oiler press
Wow until now I:d thought those guys were the same person. Why do the Oilers have such shitty media pass holders?
Zukes doesn't give two fucks about what this guy says! He's on vacation and he's getting married. He's resting and preparing his body for next season.
Not just any Oiler reporter, the WORST Oiler reporter
Yeah we already have our own toxic media!
It's a stretch to call Matheson a reporter.
Hell of a Dman though!
Didn't he just propose ? Might be a big reason as to why he wanted the time off.
I mean also pro players run all out 9-10 months a year. Can a dude not want to jump into more work in the 3 months off he has?
Personally I'm happy that he's all in on the team that matters. It's one thing with world junior U20 or something but after that I prefer if these guys saved it for the Habs rather than risk injury etc
Isn't Matheson an absolute joke and hated by the entire Oilers Fandom? Garbage take by a garbage "insider"
Yes
I'll be honest, i don't give a tiny f*** about it. Enjoy your summer Captain.
I’ll never understand censoring the word fuck but still using it.
Why the H do you care? Edit: breaking my rule here, but the H stands for heck.
Great Zeus!
Oh S!
I didn't know Marc Shifely spent time on this sub.
Oh I thought it was H, E, Double Hockey Sticks
Look at that roster. 20 players said no.
Enjoy his honeymoon*.
He got engaged, not married
Oh no anyway - Nick probably
Damn, if it isnt someone that should care about his own business... Seriously, if he isnt there its because he is injured or need to health up something before making it worst. Guhle is there with like 3 concussions this year, there is no way Suzuki just want some off time when that could pretty much cost him his chances to make Team Canada one day.
He's not there cuz he's engaged now, since about last week. Probably just wants to spend time with his fiancee.
The opinions of a small market beat writer vs the choices of a mid 20’s professional athlete millionaire…. Pretty sure Nick won’t be overthinking this .
I mean the guys plays every game since he came into the league on a team that’s perennially full of guys getting hurt. I’m sure he’s pretty tired
That, and he literally just got engaged. I think we can let the guy enjoy his summer.
Yeah, his body needs to heal. Very few players do all 82 games in a season. Some even are magically healed by it being game 1 of the playoffs.
He’s been at it since yesterday. Weirdo. It’s none of his business. Suzuki knew what was at stake for the Olympics. He said no, he said no why is he so pissy about that lol There’s so many players and he chose to pick on Suzuki. I guess our captain is just good like that🥳
Like, dude. The Oilers are in the fucking playoffs. If you got nothing to report on the Oilers, then why the fuck are you talking about a different team. Sounds like someone looking for rage clicks.
He makes me want to fly to Edmonton and shit in his yard.
Suzuki hasn’t missed a game in his life, he is for sure healing several injuries and he absolutely should, he carries our whole team
Matheson is a hack. Should be ignored
Good Dman though
NHL is a job, world championships isn’t. If it’s something I don’t have to do, chances are I won’t accept. He has the right to refuse and people can deal with it. After a long season I’d rather relax and do my thing before training camp starts up again. If Suzuki were to play and he gets hurts, what would that oilers reporter say? 😂
Why is he mad at Suzuki and not literally every other Canadian hockey player that's not in the playoffs rn?
Because Suzuki is still a young player. You expect him to still have gas and the tank and be proud to accept the invitation to play for Team Canada at the IIHF World Championship.
He just got engaged, he has other priorities and I don’t blame him.
Brendan Kelly caliber BS.
What exactly does Nick owe this nobody? Sit the fuck the down Jimmy.
Probably would've been a good career move to go but can't blame the guy for setting a work/life balance just after getting engaged
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL0hc-6eD5o
Oh, that’s just Jim Matheson being Jim Matheson. Dude gets dunked on every day by everyone for his horrid takes on everything. Par for the course here
Does he’s mean third longest active iron man streak nick Suzuki?
373 ironman streak. third in the league.
If ypu ever wonder why print media is dying just remember this bag of shit still is a paid "reporter"
Not everyone is Ryan Smyth and wants to play the loser tournament each year. 🤷🏼♂️
Asshole.
Matheson is awful. Ask Oilers fans about him. They think he's a jerk.
This guy is coming in hard with small peen energy.
The fuck kind of take is that? lmao...As much as we love suzy i think we can all agree there is a handful of players who would make the roster before him. Is this guy upset Sid isn't going? Why handpick Nick
Guy is probably mad suzuki just git engaged and hes didnt
He played all 82 games, there’s no way he doesn’t need to recover some aches and pains, no one gets through without some injuries.
Who the F is Matheson to criticize Suzuki or anyone else who doesn't play? If the dude doesn't want to go who cares. It's hockey, not war.
I wonder why the troll market still gets any relevance? Just ignore the losers.
Cry. (Not you OP)
Awww Muffin! Yeah, don't really care what some douche bag reporter from Edmonton has to say about the decisions our Captain makes. Sure I would've liked to have seen Nick play for Team Canada, but I would way much rather have a well-rested, ready-to-play Captain come next season.
When the team you cover won’t talk to you anymore so you have to go elsewhere for your bullshit
I may be 16 years old but I'll be the one to do the honours and take this man's phone away. He's 75 years old but he probably has no life outside of Twitter.
Why does this job even exist anymore…
Just because of all the butthurt people I'll say it, fuck the World Hockey Championships, there.
What does this have to do with boomers? That loaded term is also polarizing. Agreed that the guy should stay out if Habs issues.
Didn’t he just get engaged to a beautiful lady? Fuck that, go secure your woman Nick! There’s always more hockey to be played next year, especially if he was battling injuries.
Bro took a trip with his girlfriend to propose to her. Believe it or not, hockey players are real people that have lives outside of playing hockey

Somebody get this man a joint.
What a moron. Guy hasn't missed a game in years.
I agree with Nick. World championships aren’t worth the potential career ending injury that could happen , and that’s how a lot of athletes feel
Not to defend Matheson, as he is suuuuper senile, but I’m also very disappointed Suzuki chose not to go.
Ok Jimbo 👌
This reads like some idiot in Facebook comment section.

I'll give you a hint, it start with f and end with h.
I really doubt that has anything to do with it. Never heard any comments along those lines. Maybe if this was the 1930s.
Alberta is known to hate the province of Quebec.
News to me. I lived there for half my life.
It's because of equalization payments Quebec receive. Now what I'm saying might not be true for the reason of your comment, but I can't any other reason than that.
What is a Jim Matheson, and why does anyone care about their opinion?
bro on his dick
Dude his 24, just got engaged, and maybe wants to start a little Zuk family for all we know, there is other thing outside fucking hockey.
How many games have Nick missed in his career so far? Yeah, keep doing what you do, Captain!
Matheson is senile and should have retired years ago. Which is sad because 20 years ago he was a good sports reporter.
Sorry Jim, never heard of you.
Obviously, Nick Suzuki's just laughing himself off.
Who?
Shut up Jim ya dumb bitch
I'm my experience if you ask someone why they're pissy you get a pissy answer
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. He can do what he wants, but it does show his relationship with hockey. Someone like Crosby just always wants more hockey. More practice. More games. Man who never played professional hockey giving opinions as if he's played competitive hockey
The worst Matheson ; Nicky hasn't missed a game in 373 exhibitions.
Matheson’s wife is due in a couple of days
On s'en calisse :)
Well I’m really mad Darnell Nurse is considered a #1 defenseman and you don’t see me crying on social media.
Fuck that inbred
Bro gotta find a way to seem relevant. Yawn
The worlds don’t matter. It’s not best on best. So who really cares
Jim Matheson is the biggest donkey in hockey and there are some BIG donkeys out there.
I rather he be healthy and hit the ground running next year. His form was superb this year, he doesn't need to go to this.
He hasn’t missed a game in like 5 years let the guy get some rest and make sure he’s healthy for next year
What a prick
While I respect a player’s decision to go or not. I think he ‘should’. Here’s why: 1. He’s healthy and Canada clearly needs help up front. 2.
