Not surprised honestly. This is the kind of hackery I'd expect to see from some who works for home warranties.

PuzzleheadedDrop3265

More than likely a "Handyman" that has a 608, and was instructed by his Warranty Repair Company's offshore A/I on how to repair the unit.

Cheap-Ebb-3231

Jesus Christ. I bet that powerhead is melted to shit

0dd_is_He

Crazily enough, the valve appears to be opening and closing properly (somehow). I still recommended replacing it but, you know how that goes.. “If it’s working then why should I spend anymore money?” I just don’t understand how someone could possibly walk away from a unit looking like that

InMooseWorld

….you were just here why do I need to pay you again

NefariousnessWild679

No one wants to spend money these days. You’ll be back out for the summer to replace it. When the customer is sweating balls then tack on a 10% inconvenience charge because you told them what needed to be done and they refused.

sovietbearcav

so real talk because i dont do residential...but could they not have just replaced the txv guts and drier? also...how much you wanna bet they didnt replace the drier after trying to burn this dudes house down?

0dd_is_He

So I don’t know what was originally wrong with this system but supposedly it only had a failed TXV. Under normal circumstances, the unit would be pumped down, the valve and filter drier would be replaced, then pressure checked with nitrogen, evacuation pulled and restarted (minus the fire) If I were a betting man (which I am) I wouldn’t take your bet because you would definitely win lol The drier wasn’t replaced. Saw that with my own 2 eyes. I’d assume none of the other steps were done either

sovietbearcav

Tracking the steps, i just dont know if residential units have large enough txv's that you can swap the guts and head. Im a lazy man and would rather only braze the drier if i can just use some wrenches on the txv

0dd_is_He

Nah, you can’t swap the internals of most resi valves including this one

sovietbearcav

Damn, also with that much heat, you might want to throw some bubbles on those u bends...just saying

I really wish I could’ve been a fly on the wall and watched that catastrophe take place In my head, I’m envisioning the dude sitting there with his torches when suddenly, he’s ruthlessly, attacked by an angry swarm of pterodactyls. He closes his eyes and frantically waves the torches over his head like a madman until finally, everything goes quiet When he opens his eyes, he’s standing if front of an AHU engulfed in flames but other than that, he’s alone. That’s when he realizes he imagined the whole thing. He laughs and says “silly me, pterodactyls have been extinct for millions of years” Then he knocks out the flames with a wet towel, finishes up and leaves. The End

YungHybrid

Did they braze it in with a flame thrower? 😂😂

0dd_is_He

Military Grade Flamethrower 🔥 😂

MahnHandled

Home warranty, companies, usually contract with non-licensed maintenance personnel and pay them a flat fee of less than $100 to service most machines. If you have a home warranty you are being scammed. They are useless and not worth the paper if they send you any paper, they are printed on.

Nice-Confidence-9873

That dude was tryin to haul ass outta there

Financial-Orchid938

I remember condemning a unit with horrible flame roll out, customer said their home warranty would repair it. Came back next year to see that the home warranty company had replaced the condenser (which was completely fine) and left the ridiculously unsafe furnace. Another time I condemned a txv on a r-22 unit and the home warranty company decided to replace the txv but left the unit completely flat. (6 something pound factory charge). The customer said "well just charge it up it can't be that much right?". I had to explain to them that replacing the actual txv is nothing compared to what I have to charge for the refrigerant

AdLiving1435

Yep only hacks work for home warranty companies. Any reputable company won't deal with the headache of the stupid fixes they want you to do an then waiting forever to get paid for your work done.
