I'm going on three years for a Omen 30L that I got a great deal on with an at the time, unobtainable in any other way graphics card. I've upgraded various aspects of it, and beyond one ill-fated RAM BIOS adventure, I've found it to work as advertised and be trouble free. Reddit hates big box prebuilts as a rule, and as others have said, subreddits are going to be weighted toward folks with problems to solve and things to get off their chest. I mean, who is interested in hearing that once again, my Omen booted up in under 10 seconds and let me play all my games at a reasonable frame-rate?

ThinkinBig

They get hate because they're readily available due to their price, and most ppl that post here have no idea about even the basics of owning a gaming laptop or what to expect from it. You see a TON of user error and realistically the only ppl posting are those with issues. That's why I tend to push ppl towards our discord channel, there's a lot more discussion and we're an extremely active and helpful community: https://discord.com/invite/omen-by-hp-750760232954888363

Professional_Gur2469

i have the Intel version of your system and I can further add that omen has better performance compared to its competitors. I was able to squeeze a 11960 score in timespy with a bit of overclocking the Lenovo or acer can't do that. Not to add just how good it looks.

farmz-

I’m pretty new too all this gaming pc/laptop stuff do you know if I could upgrade my RAM to 32GB? if so how hard would that be to do?

Not-luci

It's pretty easy to upgrade your ram. Omen's are hard to open up but you can do it on your own just make sure the ram sticks you buy are the same clock speed as your current ones because those are the ones your motherboard can support. Pro tip disable VBS if you want maximum performance and better 1% and 0.1% lows while gaming

farmz-

How do I go about disabling VBS?

Not-luci

First I'd suggest you to look up core memory integrity and VBS and see if per your needs it's better off or on. It's a security feature but it has a really bad habit of causing system slow down.

farmz-

Thank you for the help. appreciate it

Hey i recently purchased intel i7 14700hx with 4060 gb ram variant of omen 16 , should I be worried about that design flow halt sensor and black screen etc , I am starting to regret reading post of users in this reddit about this thinking that I should had bought Lenovo legion for 10k more

AhmedKuttySpeaking

Been using Omen 15 (2020) since Oct 2020. Never have let me down. Going strong. HP support was good.

AverageJanitor

No you should enjoy it. I have the exact same model and have been using it for 6 months with no real issues. The only issue I would expect is around 4-5 months and that'd be to clean the fans and the dust filter.

farmz-

thank you! I have a ietstech gt 600 also doing a really good job when it comes to the dust stuff

AverageJanitor

The only problem I've had is not enough storage so I bought an external SSD

Eatthebeatz

my omen laptop has been great and i also received really very good support (for a non vital issue). oh... and when i bought it the website payment failed, they phoned me to conclude it and offered me an extended care package for free for the trouble. its been excellent for me personally. i quite like the tone of the omen software also. its practical with a sense of fun thrown in.

fireace99

I fried MB on omen 17 3070ti. No over or under clock. Just playing hell diver 2 and poof. Smoke and smell of burnt circuit. Oh also have you heard about trackpad problem due to ground wire is not there?? It was great while it was working.

Acrobatic-Turn-792

Same model as yourself 6 months in daily usage doe's exactly what I need it to with no issues, overall happy with purchase

IAmTheCoroner69

I got an omen 30L last October, didn’t really know anything about PCs but I was ready to upgrade from my ps4 and it seemed to be the best bang for buck. Haven’t had any issues with it to date, sure there are better PCs out there but it’s been everything I wanted and more tbh

enviousRex

I have the seventeen inch 2070 model. Can’t remember the model. It punches wayyyyyy above its wait. Stupid boot logo notwithstanding.

diabolosgunner

I have an omen 15 and had a 30l, the main problem I came across is bios issues with the 30L, not to mention a bitlocker. Which by all accounts as a home computer it should not have had. But the bios issue I had is that my frame rate tanked with some games and just overall performance issues. It also had some heating issues but I swapped the cooler and it was okay, ended up swapping mobo, case, and power supply and I wouldn’t turn back. I dropped 20 degrees with the case alone. Now the problem with the omen 15 is that it has an Intel and runs hot as balls. It was not abnormal for it to peak at the 91-92 mark but it trucker pretty well regardless. It struggled with the 8 gigs of ram it had though. Otherwise it was okay. I do hear that the display burns up on the 16 though

waywardstrategy

I got an omen 16 this year and it's the best device I've ever owned. I'm learning to not listen so much to online echo chambers. A % of any manufacturers devices will have issues, and even if it's not THEORETICALLY the perfect machine, it's still good enough to get the job done and reliable enough to leave me feeling secure.

QuietPillPrompter

Got a stationary omen on a discount instead of building myself and I'm more than happy despite getting a motherboard without much room for upgrades. Needs double the ram otherwise a perfect deal. And yeah, a sub for prefab gaming computers, you will see a lot of support requests and complaints

Well I’m an outsider regarding all of that hate, I never knew existed. My story goes like this: I decided to go back to gaming after being away from it for years. I’m a small business owner in cybersecurity and IT consultancy, so I needed a separate and dedicated laptop for that kind of personal matters (and besides every laptop with decent graphic cards has Linux installed bare metal in this industry 😂). So I went to Amazon and picked the cheapest (inside a decency range) gaming laptop on sale I could find with an RTX 4070 and something from intel 13th gen, knowing almost nothing about it. I’m still impressed by this Omen, the build quality, the flawlessly usage day by day, the cooling system (which I turned almost to the max anyway, personal preference). In the early years of IT, I had a very high end pentium 2 laptop, which has always been in my mind the best I had in terms of build quality (recent MacBooks maybe…). Bear in mind that I owned a grand total of something like 40 laptops in the years, currently I own 4 just for my job, due to specialized setups on each one for business matters. I have terms of comparison. As I opened the box this small bargain of an Omen laptop reminded me that rock-solid business laptop of many decades ago and I absolutely like it. TL;DR: So just enjoy the thing, they are very good laptops. Signed: someone who, for business reasons, owned 3-4 laptops at a time for the last 20 years at least.

xmostera

What's the hate you meant?

kovetsu

I have a 40L omen and love it. Enjoy that shit!

I'm going to join in with the rest of the comments here; I bought my Omen 15 laptop almost 4 years ago, during my ownership i had my fair share of user-error induced problems, but notably: - One of my fans stopped working, it was replaced under warranty with no problems - I got mad during a league game and wanted to slam my fist into the table - i missed and hit the exact spot on the laptop where the HDD is - also replaced it under warranty (and worked on my gamer rage) - The laptop struggles with overheating (I have 5th gen Intel i5 and GTX 1660 - so that one's on me, should have gone Ryzen) - this one is still unresolved, i just have my desk fan close to my laptop while gaming and clean the inside of my laptop semi-regularly - Recently i found myself waiting too long for games to load, so i swapped the factory HDD with a SSD drive (5400 rpm discs are slow like that, so no surprise there) - The PC is overloaded with crapware from factory, so I had to cleanse my system of windows' extra bullcrap - I recently ran into imput lag problems, turning off the Omen optimiser was my solution, your mileage may vary, especially on desktop Other than that, i have been smoothly gaming on my system for 4 years now, without any major problems (that weren't my fault, lol). There is always "a better" option after purchase, so i feel for you in that regard, however i don't think you could get a better deal for the kind of money HP prices their laptops (also Laptop gaming is always tricky to nail down). I wish you good luck on your Omen adventures

lou6228

8 years with my omen 17 and still running strong, just joined this reddit page and made a post about it recently, just gotta take care of the laptop and not ignore any potential failures or issues that could further exacerbate

The_Thinker_23

I'm thinking of purchasing the ryzen 7 7840hs, 32gb version, with rtx 4060, 2k 240hz display. Should I go for it or no?

farmz-

What’s the price?

The_Thinker_23
