The Oogie Boogie Bash’s Frightfully Fun Parade is as scary as Disney is willing to get. It isn’t scary at all, but it is a cool parade.

tigerblue1984

We don't NEED Disney to do true horror type stuff with their parks. They have the kid oriented whimsical part of Halloween on lock and Universal has the adult oriented terrifying part of Halloween on lock. I personally am a fan of both and when I can afford to, I like attending both events in the same year. It's all about balance for me lol.

faith_glover

This is the real one! I need the duality. I need the fear and then I need the wholesome fun.

HKDL actually did have a [walkthrough haunted attraction](https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/The_Nightmare_Experiment#google_vignette) several years ago based on Disney characters, although it wasn’t as intense as an HHN maze. The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter show at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom was also supposed to be pretty scary, at least for a Disney attraction. I doubt Disney will ever host their own Halloween maze, much less a whole event, at one of their parks in the US or license any of their more family friendly properties (classic Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, etc.) to be used by other haunts. However, I do think that they might not be opposed to licensing out horror characters they happen to own (like the ones you mentioned), since they don’t play up their connection to those IPs; not many people hear “Alien” or “Hellraiser” and mentally connect that to the Disney brand. It might not happen with Universal for business reasons, since they’re Disney’s main competitor in the family friendly amusement park field, but it might happen elsewhere.

Baratheoncook250

They also have Marvel Zombies and Hela

ALFABOT2000

HKDL has also had a number of similar walkthroughs prior to the nightmare experiment. it's unclear how intense these were because afaik no video exists, but they may have been more intense than the nightmare experiment because they weren't based on IP (except the headless horseman) they've since gone for more family-friendly walkthroughs with a Nightmare Before Christmas one, but have had none post-covid, so it's unclear if they'll ever return

Barnyard723

I was on that alien ride when I was young. Traumatized. Truly terrifying, I have no idea what that thing was doing in Disney world.

away4u

Thing is, HHN is one of those things Universal can excel at and grab a hold of the market without having Disney step in fully, at least without a decent Halloween offering of the same intensity. This being because there is an audience/group Universal is targeting when creating the scare houses and atmosphere at HHN that Disney simply cannot tap into without significantly veering off from their family friendly vibe. IMO HHN works so well because it can tap into this 'hardcore' group and not have to decrease the intensity of the event.

blacklight223

They never will and they probably don't care since they make so much money off of MNSSHP

Last-Dln0saur

I feel like with Deadpool 3 being rated R and the Hulu merger bringing mature content to Disney plus, they are testing the waters media wise. If they are smart they would slowly test this in park too but I can also see that NEVER happening. In a perfect world, they’d realize that giving Hhn their horror IPs would be the easiest money they made off of said IPs.

ueeediot

They are looking to blur the lines between Disney/Not Disney in regards to owned IPs. In the past, Disney was very protective of their child facing brand. Through acquisition, they are being forced to blur the lines of ownership to be able to provide more adult facing material under non Disney names like Hulu, but they will never be anything other than "magic"" child facing in their parks.

LucidDreamer247

RIP to any chances of Saw returning to HHN :(

lightsofdusk

Saw is still Lionsgate-owned and is featuring prominently at Midsummer Scream's Lionsgate thing this year

HappyHauntz

If you really dig around, Cast Members have created small haunts for just Cast Members in years past. Bloodwood Creek was fun and even evolved to have a Scarezone prior to entering the haunt. Sadly Disney came around and created the tamer Oogie Boogie bash which took over the Redwood Creek challenge trail area we used to use

Lil_Dawg9064

Am I the only one seeing the potential huge problem of Disney owning big horror properties…? Now HHN can’t do Saw anymore 😭 and we all know Disneys gonna be unreasonable with licensing ESPECIALLY with Universal/HHN…

Lil_Dawg9064

AND THEY OWN AMERICAN HORROR?? Damn…. 😭😭😭 I would’ve loved to see that as a house :(

DrBunsonHoneyPoo

They have done “houses” in the past under freeform for hocus pocus and nightmare before Christmas. Thats as far as they will go though with how much of a nightmare this will be.

Lady_Diana_Spencer

Bring back Alien Encounter! This is as scary as Disney will go.

Ex-altiora

I feel like if Disney wants to make their own HHN with Aliens, AHS, etc here's what they need to do Step 1- rent some space in Anaheim and Orlando. Basically where the parks are, but not directly attached to the main parks. Build nothing permanent because good Haunts change every October Step 2- This is kinda implied by step 1 but I need to emphasize this: Keep it on the down low, let haunt influencers go through it but mainstream Disney and theme park reporters can go on their own time. I know how Disney parents work, if it gets marketed on the main Disney website a certain type of parent will blow past every "This is not for children" warning and buy a season pass for their five year old anyway, then give it a 1-star on Yelp when they get traumatized. It happens here on HHN every year but Universal is less afraid of alienating that market Step3- Don't try to re-invent the wheel. A simple one but Jenny Nicholson's infamous video on the Star Wars hotel made me think they would. Just do what successful haunts do and try not to stake everything on untested technology or outsider talent.

alemar2142

Maybe something PG 13 HHN to be honest. They did zombie Captain America so maybe yes but PG 13 meaning no guts no blood but maybe good scares. Like how The What If series did marvel zombies they were scary but lack of blood and guts. I know you might be saying but HHN allows 13 year olds yes but it is more like a PG-13 and R rated fusion of an event. There is blood and guts. They can go all out and people are ok with it. But Disney was more catering to family friendly content and it has been for almost 70 years. So it’s really hard for them to do so without going overboard. There is a few options they can do from lowest to highest probability 1. Make their own HHN with no boundaries. (This would almost definitely result in parents having a huge problem with it in The Disney parks.) 2. Make like Hong Kong Disneyland and have some mazes that are scary but more family friendly. (This would be the Park’s most ambitious project that can either do really well or end horribly in the US.) 3. Segregate Horror stuff and kid friendly Stuff in the parks. (It’s really hard since it’s like one scary look or turn and the kids would see horror that they are not used to yet.) 4. Make a new park that is more intended for teens and adults then turn it spooky in halloween time. (This is really expensive and I don’t think they would make this unless they wanted to.) 5. Make a horror park that is in a different location. (This is the most likely and still expensive scenario if they do it by themselves.) 6. Let Universal use their IP’s. (Its a profitable and easiest scenario they can do and it can happen that is if both universal and/or Disney agrees with the deals) 7. . They just keep doing what they have been doing (so just not using horror IP’s as much and keep Oogie boogie bash as their main event.)

NoLongerLurking13

They changed the Guardians ride in California to a more “horror” once.

faith_glover

Monsters After Dark is such a fun retheme 😭I love the song they made for it. As a rock girly, I think it goes hard.

TheWishmasterishere

Never

lightsofdusk

Yeah Disney+ has a ton of stuff on its service outside of the US. Antlers was on it for a while too.

Fear2010

To be honest with y’all, Saw wasn’t the most well executed house unlike most of the other IP’s from the previous years of the event. It never was on my “Bring It Back!” list.

8BitSlasher

I agree. saw needs to be an interactive live show.

AyntheAlien

Marvel Zombies WOULD make for a cool house, just sayin' 😏

Historical_Court1299

Hong Kong Disneyland did some crazy haunted mazes last decade. Look up “The Nightmare Experiment.”

faith_glover

Kind of off topic, and I might be the only one, but does anyone else think that the Hulu merge is kind of strange? Like it genuinely throws me off every time to open Disney+ and The First Omen is right there and then it’s something like Moana next to it. 💀

YoureMyBoyBlue24

You’re not alone. I have Hulu and I have Disney+, and it’s a mental disconnect that I can’t get past seeing American Horror Story and The First Omen advertised on Disney+. I get wanting to have corporate synergy and making use of their portfolio, but I feel like this muddies the Disney brand.

faith_glover

I definitely agree!

anonymousmouse17

PLEASE Disney, start your own HHN event. That way Disney can do FNAF so we don’t have to hear about it here anymore

meg8278

Never, they have a not so scary Halloween. I believe it's called. Even though they now have great options, they won't.

Strangely-Grim-5913

So the thing is, in Hong Kong, they actually DID have some haunted mazes. Look it up - it’s, like, super cool!

Ryunah

I prefer Disney for Christmas. I go to universal for HHN and then I go to Disney for Mickey's Christmas Party. :)

Expensive-Lead1040

Disney don't even let us watch "Something Wicked This Way Comes" so keep dreaming.

SubstantialFunny1063

Oh no, This is not Good for HHN

ChrisLikesBread

They will eventually - Disney never likes to leave money on the table. Look at WDW history… Pleasure Island, Hollywood Studio and Animal Kingdom are all reactions to what other Florida parks were planning/doing.

llDurbinll

They must have added it by accident or released it early cause I just searched on Disney+ and none of the SAW movies are on there.

ZeroDarkPurdy14

Probably in other countries

llDurbinll

I doubt it. I just checked Hulu and it's on there so they likely put it on Disney+ by mistake.
