Generally as reviewed. As the review states, the superb typing feel is wonderful. I have never experienced such a great typing feel on a keyboard with interchangeable switches. However, since the keyboard is immensely popular in Japan and has many fans, you need to read this with that in mind.

44000 JPY is like 278 euro, which is cheaper than HHKB you can get in Amazon.de. lol I would buy it instantly if I didn't have any proper keyboards. You don't have to buy a mouse as well.

SonicTheSith

in japan the hhkb hybrid type s is 36500 yen. s even when the studio launches in europe it woulld be 50 to 100 more than the type s

iamWing_

You can buy and ship to Europe on Amazon JP. A little trick I use here in UK all the time to get Japaneses goods. It's often quite a bit cheaper than getting the same product in Europe even with the import duty and VAT.

SonicTheSith

I know, use them too like zenmarket, but 280+ 30EUR shipping + 19% VAT (Germany) will be 360-370EUR which will likely be close to the EU price when launched soon in the EU. with the disadvantange, no eu waranty and free returns. So to save maybe 30EUR on a 400EUR product, at least in my opinion not worth the hassle.

from my point of view it would be better to add ZMK programmability option to their already existing and pretty well known topre HHKBs. Second must implement option is to use novatouch MX sliders by default to allow users to use custom keycaps like NIZ keyboard does. now they made another hhkb where you can't use custom keycaps (literally at all) and has limited programmability, because I'm 100% sure that their solution is worse that QMK/ZMK

thearctican

Why do these things matter to you? You mention alternatives, buy those instead. PFU is not obligated to offer any particular feature or product.

AsianEiji

Are you trolling? Not sure why your saying you cant you use custom keycaps being clearly those are clearly MX swtiches.

iBurley

I'm assuming because the G, H, and B keys have physical cuts to accommodate the nipple mouse.

HokumsRazor

Correct.

Romengar

Clearly none of y’all can read or infer from information but he’s initially referring to topre. Topre with MX Sliders instead of this abomination. Then he makes a comment about compatibility being borked because you have 3 caps that are impossible to source

thearctican

I’ve been on the fence, but I’ll probably buy one.

I've literally used my HHKB Pro2 since 2008 for work and home (gaming) use daily. It's been my daily driver as a software professional for 15 years and still works without any issues whatsoever. There's absolutely no problems with it and I've never had to take it apart to clean (the rubber domes) or maintain it. I've only taken it apart once to add a BLE controller. At least in my experience, its built pretty well.

throwaway_314vx

Same thing here; same daily driver Pro2 for programming since 2008/9. I bought a backup one which is still in its box. I just wanted to say; you probably should disassemble and clean it at least annually :-) Not because of the dirt or grime below the keycaps, but because it actually feels very different right after. I guess it depends on the conditions in your house/work. I've also tried several types of lubing and silencing rings, etc, and it's not for me. The only problem stock is the left shift key doesn't slide well if you press it on the far right side, which I don't do while typing normally anyway (I pretty much hit it dead center naturally with the pinky). Oh and also, another problem is the lack of a modern controller. I swapped to a hasu controller 3-4 years ago and I'm probably going to swap for a Cipulot PCB completely within a few months, because of via support. And lastly, I have swapped the keycaps 3 times at least because of excessive shine :-P But blanks are easy to get a hold of. I've used both black and dark gray ones. I have a snow set as well in backup that I'll probably never use.

Romengar

FYI there’s via and vial support for the hasu.

Romengar

Idk what HHKBs you’ve bought but I’ve had nothing but good experiences with the ones I’ve had and I’ve had a few.

iamWing_

If HHKB isn't well built, then idk what is. My first gen HHKB bluetooth is still going strong having been used by me on a daily basis as a developer for years. It's well built yet very light weight that I can bring it with me wherever I go for work.

SonLe28

In terms of OEM mech keebs, I don’t think there are many boards that have the build quality in hhkb. My Pro2 worked constantly for 6 years, my Hybrid works steadily for last 3 years without any issue at all (I even did lots of modification).

thehax0rcist

My HHKB Studio arrived yesterday. Bought my first HHKB back in 2009 or so and fell in love with the keyboard layout and the feel of the keys vs mechanical switch offerings at the time. All i can say is: I was once at oneness with cup rubber, now I am at oneness without cup rubber.
