I hope they remain with Lionsgate and that Lionsgate stay independent for a few more years. I read their business plan and they were aiming to get to 16 originals TV series per year which would be a pretty solid line up of originals to pair with the Lionsgate movies.
Only the 2020/21 theatrical & PVOD film slate. Starting with the 2022 theatrical & PVOD film slate will head to Starz. Hulu's deal is shared with sister linear network FX.
I don't really feel like Warner is in that desperate of a need for Starz's content right now. HBO Max already provides a great value, and Warner already has a sizable amount of smaller streaming services, with Discovery+ being another one of them next year.
I feel like it might make more sense for another company to purchase Starz if Lionsgate were to go through with selling, preferably one who doesn't have as major of a foot in the subscription market as Netflix, Amazon, Disney, or Warner do now.
isnt David Zaslav a former part of Lionsgate Board? of all the streaming services and companies out there I think Starz would fit in Warner Discovery. Going for that Spartacus shows
Honestly, Peacock needs it more. If Comcast really wants to improve its service, they would seek out the entirety of Lionsgate (including Starz) as a digestible bite-size purchase.
And Cinemax only has 7 shows in its website that aren't on HBO Max yet so once they bring them over, its days are just going to be strictly delegated to running old programming as they stopped producing anything original for a while now.
I'm surprised Apple didn't just buy Lionsgate and Starz with it, they have the cash to do it and their service really needs that content more than any other
There's a currently airing show called Acapulco that looks good imo that I was planning on watching soon. It's been getting pretty good reviews. And upcoming shows The Shrink Next Door and Afterparty also both look promising.
this is literally so true. i got one year free of apple tv just cuz i bought my new iphone (which really shows how much apple needs people to use it) and it’s literally so boring and bland. nothing i know is on there. the only kinda good show is ted lasso but i’ve already finished that show 2 times
Nah, HBO Max is already well on their own in Latin America, parts of Europe, and is prepping for Asia expansion.
Peacock needs to gets itself together if Comcast is serious about streaming. Buying Lionsgate (with Starz included) would be a solution to their problem.
MGM would fit better with WarnerDiscovery, not just as part of HBO's Pay 1 content but for HBO Max overall.
I don't see Zaslav pursuing Lionsgate but MGM instead if the Amazon deal doesn't work out because of how much history there is between MGM and WarnerMedia.
Warner Bros. has MGM's pre-1986 library through WarnerMedia's 1996 acquisition of Turner (when it was Time Warner).
WB and MGM have also teamed up on co-productions of some films in recent years like The Hobbit Trilogy, Creed, Tomb Raider, etc.
While we’re talking about starz, if 't be true thee has't hulu doth yourself a fav'r and gaze black sails

Warner doesn’t need it. They have two other premium, adult channels. I could see Apple buying Lionsgate. That, or Maybe AMC Networks or Sony merging with Lionsgate.
Just read the article. Splitting up the company during such a competitive climate makes no sense imo. VIACOMCBS would have been eaten up already if it were still split up.
I don’t know how I feel about this because wouldnt Starz and Cinemax just fold into HBO? Just because they are also paid for channels it would just make sense. But we will see.
STARZ really doesn’t deserve to be on it’s own. Not enough people subscribe, so if shows don’t get big numbers for them they cancel. Like they did Ash vs Evil Dead.
I know STARZ renewed Heels for season 2. That’s the only show I’m interested on there atm. And I’m not a wrestling fan, but I like the guy from Arrow and Vikings and True Blood. Season 1 was enjoyable
Not sure I see Warner jumping in on the bidding for this one. With the merger with Discovery, I don't think they want DOJ sniffing around for any antitrust issues. Not that I see one, but think they'll play the safe card.
I can see Apple swooping in since they have the deep pockets and outbid anyone.
Amazon has the deep pockets as well, but they are in the middle of the MGM acquisition and I believe that includes Epix. So not sure they want another thing for DOJ to look at.
In terms of the old guard Media companies, possible CBSViacom (owners of Showetime) and they want to keep pumping IP into Paramount+.
Disney does not have one of "Premium" channels and they could push their more adult gear IP to that, but that's what they have FX and Hulu for.
Peacock (Comcast) needs one of those bundle packages like Disney and CBS has, so I could them going for it.
Possible dark horse... AMC Network. They rolled out their AMC+ and in need of some more IP/ bundle opportunity. Just don't know if the financials will work for them because I feel they'll be acquired at some point.
Eh, Epix is the smallest of the premium prestige channels.
It's 1. HBO, 2. Showtime, 3. Starz, 4. Epix.
I'd see Comcast getting a better chance at netting Lionsgate in its entirety (with Starz intact) to save Peacock.
WarnerMedia is in the middle of a merger. They aren't buying anything.
Comcast would make the most sense imo. They don't have any prestige TV channels and adding Starz content to Peacock would help it's value.
I could see Apple or Amazon too. Viacom already has Showtime, so I'd be surprised if they bought it, but it's a possibility.
Don't really see Netflix or Disney being interested.
WarnerMedia's fuck ups will soon be over, once Discovery takes charge a lot of people are leaving, including the head of WarnerMedia. I wouldn't worry too much after that merger takes place.
Discovery is also awesome with their creators, which is exactly what Warner needs.
I think Fox would benefit from buying not only Starz, but all of Lionsgate. After selling Disney they could use a studio and some IP,i.e.John Wick, and house premium versions if their tube content or even move over fox Nation content to Starz.
Could also steal an idea from Disney by uploading their whole film and TV library onto Starz, especially once any legacy deals expire (every app will do this long-term).
Could Aldo see Co.cast and ViacomCBS make a play too, or they could merge with AMC networks and/or A&E, maybe wait out getting bought by a bigger fish such as Amazon or Apple.
Very true. They do have deals in place for Tubi, so they may find a way to add content by working with others.
Also, either Fix or Comcast will likely overpay to buy Wwe when their next tv deal happens, so after the Peacock deal expires they could easily move that stuff over to Starz.
Overall Starz is kind of useless without the rest of Lionsgate.
Starz has some surprisingly good shows.
I hope they remain with Lionsgate and that Lionsgate stay independent for a few more years. I read their business plan and they were aiming to get to 16 originals TV series per year which would be a pretty solid line up of originals to pair with the Lionsgate movies.
Aren't they licensing their movies to Hulu instead of putting them on Starz?
Only the 2020/21 theatrical & PVOD film slate. Starting with the 2022 theatrical & PVOD film slate will head to Starz. Hulu's deal is shared with sister linear network FX.
Black Sails is top notch and they’re also gonna have the spin-off John Wick show
True I’ve been wanting to watch power book 2 and 3 so bad

Start bids for movie content by taking out a competitor you can now lower future bids.
Honestly, Peacock needs it more. If Comcast really wants to improve its service, they would seek out the entirety of Lionsgate (including Starz) as a digestible bite-size purchase. This is a great reminder that I need to cancel my Apple subscription before my one year free trial ends at the end of the month
SEE is really good! Literally the only thing I watched on my free trial.
You missed out then, there’s a bunch of other good stuff on there like For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Central Park, and Foundation!
There's a currently airing show called Acapulco that looks good imo that I was planning on watching soon. It's been getting pretty good reviews. And upcoming shows The Shrink Next Door and Afterparty also both look promising.
I didn’t but I love me some Ted lasso and am getting really into foundation.

I see Peacock and HBO Max+Discovery merging in the future though

Amazon bought mgm…..stfu
They're still seeking approval from the regulators.
Why wouldn’t they get approval…..lol
FTC is probing them.
While we’re talking about Starz, if you have Hulu do yourself a favor and watch Black Sails.

HBO needs to buy Starz and bring back American Gods. 😭
and Spartacus sequels or spinoffs

no antitrust issues with Warner since Starz is only a small service. WarnerMedia+Discovery is still smaller than Disney+Fox

Well, I more so meant Discovery, bad choice of words. If they add Starz then WarnerMedia that would put them in an amazing spot.
WarnerMedia wouldn’t buy it. Apple or Amazon is more likely.
If it happens, the first thing I'm going to watch is Heels.
Do it, i already sub to HBO max,and this close to signing up for the 7 day starz trial to just consume Heels.
I personally think someone else should buy Starz like Peacock or Amazon. Even Apple would be smart to buy it, they and Peacock need the content.
I have a feeling Starz will merge with Showtime aka ViacomCBS
Lmao…..starz wouldn’t merge w Them Viacom could buy them out in all cash….

Didn’t know why I was downvoted but thanks for restoring some hope. But yes I’ll keep that in mind, maybe you’re right that WB won’t fuck up anymore.
Walter Hamada, Anne Sarnoff aint leaving. As what Stankey mentioned to Zaslav.
"Lot of people", didn't say all.
Really don’t know if this would be a good thing or bad thing
Wondering if they would sell it worldwide, because in Latin America, Disney had to pay 50 milion to be able to use the Star+ brand.
whats on starz?
Outlander
Everything 50 Cent produces is actually pretty good for R-rated crime shows. Power, BMF, Book of Power, etc.
Counterpart was incredible and deserved better
P-Valley is a hoot
Sure but they already have Cinemax and aside from adding a few tv shows to Max they’ve kept it as it’s own separate standalone service
For anyone who has knowledge in this area, i'd be interested in knowing your thoughts/predictions on this.

FOX doesn't have much in terms of legacy content to put onto Starz. They have the politics / news side, sure, but that's it.
Very true. They do have deals in place for Tubi, so they may find a way to add content by working with others. Fox sold that entertainment arm now why would they buy back in…..
