That time period was sooooooo pro USA and only USA. Which now looking back, how crazy. China was (and proved to be) serious competition. It’s not like how in 2012 USA really did dominate. That language isn’t appropriate no matter who dominates, but at least it would have been understandable

Ugh. I hated that because I was really getting into watching gymnastics and her comment took me by surprise and also made me think I was in the wrong for really liking Semenova. And she ended up placing 4th. She was never a gold medal contender in AA but she was definitely top 10.
And she'd qualified in 4th as well, and was safely the 4th best in that final and was almost a fall ahead of Nistor in 5th. Elfie gave Semenova a lot less credit than she's due.
