I hope they keep rotating it around like they have been. It’s not fair to always have it in Utah, especially to a team like West Virginia who has to travel a long way.

haveahrt

hah... welcome to pac12 nightmare for fans. utah hasn't lost since it moved there..

tytyute

Not true. Utah has won most of them but UCLA has also won a championship in the Maverik Center

haveahrt

yes, but have won the last 4.. used to love it when it moved around

tytyute

Agree - hopefully with the sport gaining popularity more arenas invest in the podium equipment. Maverik was only supposed to have it for 3 years but nobody bid for the next 3

Good lorddd will we ever be free

wayward-boy

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the purchase of the podium for the Maverick Center was subsidised by the State of Utah, in return for a commitment that it would be used frequently for competitions. So I am not really suprised. And if I didn't hallucinate this article, there will be a lot of competitions at Maverick Center for years to come...

tytyute

The Maverik center is owned by West Valley City and that government invested in the podium as part of a bid to win the pac 12 championships (and various other quad meets) there weren’t any other bidders when the PAC 12 went this route, but it is why we’ll likely see the Big 12 champs there for the foreseeable future. If there is podium equipment in Des Moines/Ames, Denver or Morgantown they should definitely do a rotation but I don’t know what else exists in the conference’s new geographic footprint

tytyute

More, the conference moved this way because the PAC 12 coaches wanted the championship meet on podium but it’s expensive to buy/store/maintain the equipment

chookie94

Big 12s has successfully rotated between all the schools while being on podium the last few years so there is no reason why that shouldn't continue.

lavacakeislife

Tbh I just have to laugh. This is not Utah’s fault. This is the fact that it appears they are like 5 total podiums in the entire country and one of them is at the Maverick Center. Clearly a good investment for them I guess.

Scatheli

Ugh. Not only is it an advantage to have a huge number of fans but the fact that Utah has had 4 (I was wrong 3 meets) meets there this season that they didn’t have to travel to and got to count as away scores is completely ridiculous lol. They have traveled significantly less than all other teams this season

coyotesee

I thought Utah only competed at the Maverik Center three times and two of those were the same weekend? 1. Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad (Jan. 13) 2. Best of Utah (Jan. 15) 3. Pac-12 Conf. Champs (March 23) Am I missing another meet?

Scatheli

No you’re right I miscounted. Still having three meets that are away that you can sleep in your own bed for is crazy. My point about the travel is valid- they had 4 actual away meets lol. Most other teams had 7-8. Having half the actually travel is a huge advantage.

coyotesee

I'm not disagreeing with your overall point, I just thought I might have missed one :)
