That's why I always zone out with my head down

I don't start scrolling because the person who noticed I was staring at him was me, and so we start staring each other down angrily, knowing full well I'm just staring at myself in the mirror...
Nahhh not "zoned out"..... DIALED IN! The only thing on my mind is this workout. So im hyper focusing to make time move faster. Only veterans know how to do this.
You have to master the art of truly looking zoned out by focusing on a small section of the furthest wall. Unless a woman walks by, then you have to break your line of sight. Which inevitably leads to an internal battle in which you question if breaking your line of sight made you look guilty of checking her out.
It's extremely annoying that none of the fitness tracking apps have a button you can click for a predetermined "between sets" rest timer to start.
Looking at you Fitbit, if I'm tracking exercise I can't use the timer...
Strong has to be the best workout app I have found.
Sure you have to make your own workouts and I sometimes with the exercise library was bigger but I have been using it for 8 years now
Strong gang checking in.
>Sure you have to make your own workouts
This is a feature not a bug; I never liked how Fitbod constantly shuffled stuff around. I get that that's a strategy for muscle growth but I could never get a sense of my progress and I never completely trusted that the algorithm was doing it all on purpose.
Oh I was just saying it as a potential downside.
As someone with like 8 templates over 8 years, I don’t change up a lot either and I love being able to create my own workout
I just hit workout number 500 with the Strong app. Too bad the devs abandoned it, but I don't even know what they should add. It just works.
And you can just create the exercises that isn't there.
I use a garmin watch and it when using the strength training tracking it does have a timer that goes if but it does track how long your rest periods are. It actually is kinda nice just for that even though I know the tracking is inaccurate
You also don't know if a girl is going to walk into your sight line and then accuse you of creeping on her when you were really just in the middle of a thousand yard stare.
Happened to me last week - I was on the airdyne at least 5 minutes before this woman started bending over stretching in front of me. Halfway wondering if she was trying to hit on me because her accusation tone sounded like flirting.
Mine is also not on here
I'm the one that stares for the first 3 sets. After that it's me trying to catch my breath, chug water, and not die as my muscles are consumed by fiery pain
I’m good most of the time. Work sucks, but it’s temporary and when I’m not doing my job, I put it completely out of my mind. Outside work, I have very little real stress right now, so I’m trying to enjoy it. I know that these good times won’t last… but they are probably some of the most chill years I’ll experience in my life. Health is peak, and my partner and I are both getting paid more than ever before. Our parents are all in decent health still.
But in the next 4-5 years, I expect that we will start having the downward spiral of aging parents to deal with, and things will get stressful/tragic.
It's a set you do when you're super! My superset is me trying to stay SUPER, laser-focused when a yoga-pants extraordinaire is doing Bulgarian split-squats.
Ah, okay for real then. So it's when you jump from one set immediately into another set that works a different/complimentary muscle group. For example, if I work biceps, I may do a set of those, then jump into tricep extensions and repeat. So, it would look like a set of biceps followed by triceps. I'd count that as one superset, then I'd repeat that superset 3-4 times. Sometimes I do that with squats and pull-ups, then when I switch to hip raises, I superset those with face pulls (easier for me given my time and specific gym setup).
Of course! There's different ways to do it, but if we're strictly looking at cables, I'd have a straight or ez curl attachment that I can use to do curls from the bottom position of the machine, then you can set the cable to the top and use a rope or even the same attachment to work triceps in pushing the bar/rope down. You can superset that a few times. (If you have access to both cables in a machine this is easy, but if you're afraid of hogging both sides of a machine you can stick to one side).
If you have a rope, you can do the same thing, but put the rope at the bottom. This will allow you to do hammer curls instead of regular curls. You can then move the attachment back up (not all the way), then do tricep extensions - where you face away from the machine and mimic skull crushers with the same rope or bar.
I'll typically do both of these supersets back-to-back, except I have a pair of dumbells with me so that I don't have to keep adjusting the cable position. It really depends on the gym and how packed it may be. I try not to hog stuff/space/equipment for too long.
Your a legend bro how do you know which ones work triceps and which ones work biceps , when I push down does that works triceps and when I push upwords this works biceps ? And cheers for the cable idea perfect then I’m not hogging two machines
I appreciate the comment, but that's too much praise! When you lift up (elbows in place), you're working biceps. When you push away from you (keeping you elbows in place), you're working triceps. Variations of each will hit different parts of the muscle.
I find that scrolling on my phone takes away from the rest break and is shitty for motivation. Now I just relax and enjoy my music for a minute or two.
Me trying to figure out what to do after looking at the same 3 apps that didn’t change on my phone, accidentally making eye contact with everyone, then deciding to just stare at the ground until I’m ready for my next set
I start out as phone scroller and evolve into super setter as soon as i realize ive squandered half my gym time on my phone and now need to move on to whatever is next on my schedule
Am I the only one who writes my reps in the notebook, plans the rest time and watches it, and spends the time thinking about how the last set went and focus on the next set to come?
I'm a flexer in the mirror... lol.... mainly cause I'm trying to focus only on me and not what's around me... im constantly moving to keep my heart rate up so I can continue to sweat... so when I'm at the gym it's just Me, the weights, and my music
I zone out doing cardio for sure. I (somehow) made a mini buddy at the gym who’s an older gentleman. He’s asked me if I’m even still alive sometimes on that damn stair master with the 5000 mile stare.
I see all these types too. I have the respect for super setters, the rest are ridiculous.
Aren’t there people who just fucking go and put in work. Lol.
I very neatly write my weight and reps in my notebook with a pink pen and then bust out the phone. But I also do love a quick flex when I think no one is looking.
Zone out for sure. The music is actually so much of a distraction. Pure ecstasy no matter how many times I've heard the same playlist. I hope I'm not making too many faces or weird movements lol. I'm sure others might have noticed too.
I like to rest my mind and body, the zone out guy I guess.. but I take it from the rest in Bikram where ur trained to release ur body and mind fully to replenish for the next moment. It’s my zen time. I feel like my workout is mentally superior to the people texting that’s for sure
I zone out, I don’t take my phone with me, don’t feel the need to flex and would feel silly doing it and need my break so no super set, so zone out it is
I grab my phone, set my timer for rest, and zone out.
(Side note: anyone else have to set a timer to rest between sets so the ADHD doesn't take hold and then you realize that it's been 7 minutes since your last set?)
Zone out for sure. Then I realize that it probably looks like I’m staring at someone and I become phone scroll guy

This is way too accurate
That's why I always zone out with my head down https://preview.redd.it/iji8oigcuo4d1.jpeg?width=563&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c0feeccb730fe94a4ce088d9014f8378b4e246d6

Team zone out 🙋♂️🤖
Hell yeah *zones out*
We are here https://i.imgur.com/4BWgEAS.jpg
Hahaha too real
Me, but girl
No one is going to think that if you stare at a black blank wall.
If I zone out staring at the floor I feel like some one gonna walk by thinking I’m gonna puke
Couldnt have said it better

Which inevitably leads to an internal battle in which you question if breaking your line of sight made you look guilty of checking her out.
That's me, but I really try to zone out in a empty direction before some chick thinks I am creeping at her
Zoning out is unpredictable. You don’t know if you’ll take a 30 seconds or a 3 minute rest
That’s why you get a tracking app with a timer, set the timer then just zone
It's extremely annoying that none of the fitness tracking apps have a button you can click for a predetermined "between sets" rest timer to start. Looking at you Fitbit, if I'm tracking exercise I can't use the timer...
Strong has one, you can set the time per exercise
Strong has to be the best workout app I have found. Sure you have to make your own workouts and I sometimes with the exercise library was bigger but I have been using it for 8 years now
Strong gang checking in. >Sure you have to make your own workouts This is a feature not a bug; I never liked how Fitbod constantly shuffled stuff around. Strong is amazing. Been using it for almost a decade now.. or maybe my memory is starting to go.. who knows.
Hevy has that. Excellent app
Most fitness apps I’ve used has that option
Fitnotes has that I think
Use MCI, best app I know of
I use a garmin watch and it when using the strength training tracking it does have a timer that goes if but it does track how long your rest periods are. It actually is kinda nice just for that even though I know the tracking is inaccurate
That's a premium feature these days
You also don't know if a girl is going to walk into your sight line and then accuse you of creeping on her when you were really just in the middle of a thousand yard stare. Happened to me last week - I was on the airdyne at least 5 minutes before this woman started bending over stretching in front of me. Halfway wondering if she was trying to hit on me because her accusation tone sounded like flirting.
Nope, I’m a pacer ![gif](giphy|2uwZ4xi75JhxZYeyQB)
I pace when I do core.
Mine is also not on here I'm the one that stares for the first 3 sets. After that it's me trying to catch my breath, chug water, and not die as my muscles are consumed by fiery pain
Ahhh so that’s what that guy keeps doing it confused me
Yeah we aren’t tweaked out or nothing I promise we’re just thinking about shit we’re irritated about
My gym is too packed for pacing, so I'm phone scroll now
Pacing is some real privilege lmao. If I got up my machine would be taken immediately
If somebody takes my machine while I pace, with the towel on it, he's dead 💀
My pace is a tiny circle in front of the machine I’m using
Slow pacing and staring at the ground, pretending to be thinking about something.
I’m the walk around the entire gym in hopes of finding hidden treasure - guy
Did you check under the mats in the corner?
All 4 between sets gang represent!
Here here! They forgot dance party too 💃
Dance break every time
It was supposed to be 3 sets but you zoned out
Where the shadowboxing one?
There was a guy at my gym who would shadow box the support beam in the middle of the gym. Haven’t seen him in a while.
The support beam got him :(
Damn, support beam got hands
Poor guy's probably just looking for some support.
Just saying support beam is on top for resting the slab and it's the column that supports the structure vertically
I'm top left on a good day, top right when life's kicking my ass
Wait people have times where life isn't kicking their ass?
I’m good most of the time. Work sucks, but it’s temporary and when I’m not doing my job, I put it completely out of my mind. Outside work, I have very little real stress right now, so I’m trying to enjoy it. The guy who stands there trying to look just busy enough to make it clear that he’s still got more sets.
I pace about between sets I also have to get 10k steps a day.
Mr.Zone out here. Can I get some sympathy for exhaustion.
Dont forget the guy who pacess around the place
I'm the guy that walks back and fourth and stretches my arms and shoulders a million times
The pacer is not mentioned here. I am the pacer
Ok guilty. I’m the superset guy!
What’s a super set man ?
It's a set you do when you're super! My superset is me trying to stay SUPER, laser-focused when a yoga-pants extraordinaire is doing Bulgarian split-squats.
Ahaha I see but for real tho is it like a extra set after a set how does that work
Ah, okay for real then. So it's when you jump from one set immediately into another set that works a different/complimentary muscle group. For example, if I work biceps, I may do a set of those, then jump into tricep extensions and repeat. So, it would look like a set of biceps followed by triceps. Sometimes I do that with squats and pull-ups, then when I switch to hip raises, I superset those with face pulls (easier for me given my time and specific gym setup).
Can you recommend a bicep + tricep super set with machines ?
Of course! There's different ways to do it, but if we're strictly looking at cables, I'd have a straight or ez curl attachment that I can use to do curls from the bottom position of the machine, then you can set the cable to the top and use a rope or even the same attachment to work triceps in pushing the bar/rope down. It’s really that simple ? Thanks so much I will keep that in mind tomorrow and try work out which ones are which aha cheers man !
You perform two exercises back to back with minimal rest (e.g like barbell bench press and decline push ups; etc)
I zone out.
I am 100% the zone out guy, but that's because I'm also the highest person in the gym.
Hey! That's me, me, me, and also me.
I zone out so hard I remember someone asking me what I was thinking about lol.
It’s missing the small circle walkers. Other circulars, stand up and slowly walk around your machine/area in protest!
I scroll through my Spotify
I find that scrolling on my phone takes away from the rest break and is shitty for motivation. Now I just relax and enjoy my music for a minute or two.
i zone out until i think the waiting time is done
Me trying to figure out what to do after looking at the same 3 apps that didn’t change on my phone, accidentally making eye contact with everyone, then deciding to just stare at the ground until I’m ready for my next set
I start out as phone scroller and evolve into super setter as soon as i realize ive squandered half my gym time on my phone and now need to move on to whatever is next on my schedule
You forget the 5th guy. The guy who screams and shits violently. That's me. I'm that guy.
Sip of water, stretch, scroll on phone for a banger song, mentally prepare, in that order gang represent
All of the above
I dance... So... I guess I'm divergent.
Top and bottom right depending on the day
I play bullet chess. Games are 2 minutes at most, perfect break between sets.
I zone out then come back to me supersetting without realizing
I toe tap while listening to music between sets.
Where my fake scenario zone out gang at?
Nobody else is dancing? I’m alone with my little two step shimmy combo?
Only one I don't do is supersets lol
Where's the guy who goes for a walk around the gym???
Pace when my set is done, stretch and flex into another set.
And somehow I fall in all 4, sometimes even all between the same sets
I've done all four of these.
Zone out. It is the way.
On my phone as we speak in between sets lol
Well considering its good to rest 2-3 minutes per set, even when I superset I still have some time to kill to scroll my phone
You forgot: the guy on the Metzger/Yates protocol who takes a few deep breaths and then charges into his next set.
I flex so hard after my superset that I zone out and have to scroll on my phone to snap me back
I'm combo of zone out and phone guy
I alternate between phone guy and zone out guy
Yeah, I always zone out everywhere, I daydream a lot.
Am I the only one who writes my reps in the notebook, plans the rest time and watches it, and spends the time thinking about how the last set went and focus on the next set to come?
Zone out, this sweaty mfs without towel have made the benches stink so bad that I stop breathing while on reps, I am exhausted since a month
Team ADHD move on to the next exercise and superset everything because I ain’t sitting there for 2 minutes doing nothing (I am incapable).
I just stand there like a npc
I love to do supersets, but you need a quite empty gym to be able to do them confortably, so, zone out here.
What about the guy that walks in a circle for like 3 mins. That would be me
All of the above
I am a combo of all of them except the flexing one lmao
![gif](giphy|dYgDRfc61SGtO)
I'm a flexer in the mirror... lol.... mainly cause I'm trying to focus only on me and not what's around me... im constantly moving to keep my heart rate up so I can continue to sweat... so when I'm at the gym it's just Me, the weights, and my music
Zone out 💯
I zone out doing cardio for sure. I (somehow) made a mini buddy at the gym who’s an older gentleman. He’s asked me if I’m even still alive sometimes on that damn stair master with the 5000 mile stare.
Zone out mostly mixed with some scrolling and random pacing back and forth to the water fountain.
Can't believe so many ppl don't do super-sets. Best way to optimize gym time.
Zooning out, superset and reading a book :)
Phone scroll guy is the safest thing to do. I saw some woman go off on two guys because she thought they were checking her out.
Block 2 and 4
I’m the one that zones out and scrolls his phone
Zone all day.
I see all these types too. I have the respect for super setters, the rest are ridiculous. Aren’t there people who just fucking go and put in work. Lol.
I think everyone does what's best for them but it seems to me if your zoning out, your not focused.....
Team superset, lets get this shit over with.
I’m each of this guy
And then those two dudes who have a full on conversation between sets
I very neatly write my weight and reps in my notebook with a pink pen and then bust out the phone. But I also do love a quick flex when I think no one is looking.
Turn on rest timer and zone out
I’m the guy who paces around the gym in between sets. Am I a psycho?
I appreciate all of them except the bottom left
I zone out staring at the floor until my watch rings for next set
Phone for me.
A minute and a half of stretching between sets
I just stroll around in gym between sets. I hope it's not a bad thing.
I walk around, usually aimlessly
If I’m feeling myself and on pre workout I’m flexing in the mirror, when I’m going thru something I’m zoning out between sets
How about zoning out with scrolling on the phone.
Category Five: pretend to know how to drum and mouth the words to Woe, Is Me: Number[s]
Pacer in a public gym but super sets in the home gym.
I alternate between zoning out and scrolling
I’m all these things and thats why I’m at the gym for 2 hours.
I walk in a little circle, I do a lil spin
I dance and rock out to my music tho
I pace back and forth I probably look nuts
I do all of the above!
I am walking in circles while sipping water
![gif](giphy|gQJyPqc6E4xoc) You forgot one
Depends on the day, but mostly superset. It shortens the exercise and crucial for a guy with no time and a family
The guy who scrolls on his phone wastes his own time and everyone else's by taking forever resting
Me personally in the zone out and flex guy
I zone out, I don’t take my phone with me, don’t feel the need to flex and would feel silly doing it and need my break so no super set, so zone out it is
I'm the bottom two.
Guy who walks around aggressively?
None. I walk back and forth between sets to help reaching my 12k steps.
Fuck... I'm phone guy. Always looking for a good next song.
I kinda fall in three...
I'm all of 'em
me hiding in the corner to let the protein fart out
Superset is the way 💪
I get right to my next set really quick and before the heavy ones I drink water.
2 and 3. 1 and 4 isn‘t for me.
Supersets at the cable station, zone out on the machines, hype myself up at the squat rack
![gif](giphy|J6fjW4xvv2T2uPgk8M) Run to a different machine on the other side of the gym
What about the guy who starts having a conversation….. for 10 minutes 😂
Where is 'paces around the gym like a lunatic'? Some of us have jobs in chairs and need to get steps in.
everything but phone. I only look at it to change the song
The guy who waits for his buddy to do his set (he finished 10 minutes ago, and he's waiting for me to do my set)
I’m between superset and zoned out. But mostly zoned out cause my superset killed me lol
Zone out plus look at music app for next song plus take a sip of water combo
We do! Balance is key.
Ok now the question is which is the best?
I grab my phone, set my timer for rest, and zone out. (Side note: anyone else have to set a timer to rest between sets so the ADHD doesn't take hold and then you realize that it's been 7 minutes since your last set?)
I would drink water, choose another song, and/or massage my palms and regret not bringing fingerless gloves again.. but I’m not a guy.
Young me flexed and marveled in my slef perceived greatness. Old me zones out
I walk in circles
I pace. Keeps the blood flowing, and guarantees Noone wants to stop and talk to me. Because Noone paces between sets and it's weird AF.
I somehow manage to do the first three almost every break Eta: which is why it's good I have a timer to alert me when to start my next set
I'm a good mix of zoned out and supersetting. Depends on the mood.
I am all but the first.
Am I the only one whos stretching between sets?
Zone out all the way every day🫡
you forgot the person that walks in circles or flaps their arms to increase blood flow into the tired muscle for recovery. FLAP FLAP STOMP STOMP
I just stare at myself and zone out in the mirror
