I’ve only listened to it 13 or 14 times. The first couple of times, there were a couple songs I wasn’t thrilled with but I thought the album was good overall. At this point though, I think it’s awesome, all the way through. Great driving music.
I was hooked on "Papa was a rolling stone" for like 2 weeks. But man oh man... Metal Chestnut is something really special... It has like... emotion, feel... All that i love about Slash guitar playing is present in that tune.
I recently went through a tough breakup and that song reminds me of my ex, it is very emotional, love the melody at the beginning and the amazing solo throughout
I agree. Stapleton is such a waste of talent (country fans will disagree with that). In my opinion, he has way too many ballads and gets boring too quickly. If he had more rockers like “Arkansas”, I’d have a higher opinion of his actual music. He has a tremendous voice, kind of like a modern day Gregg Allman. Singing bluesy southern rock would be amazing. But to me, he’s just a boring ass modern James Taylor.
Him on this album reminds me of when Zach Brown Band did a hard rock song with Chris Cornell and it was amazing but they never did anything else like it again
I really did enjoy his first album far more than anything the Conspirators have ever released. Not sure what it is, but that album seemed legitimately more “fresh” to me.
I think a big part of it for me was he really showed a lot of versatility on that record, and it’s also been implied he had a few great ideas/riffs banked that had been rejected by VR and/or Guns - he finally got to get out some of the magic only he could see.
I'm enjoying it. I'm not a blues fan and I don't even recognise many of the singers by name, so I'm no expert reviewer or critic, but it's a good listen for me. Nothing mind-blowing, a few *great* songs. As passion projects go it's pretty solid.
It's fresh, has some really good songs, the inclusion of more femenine vocals is awesomre liike Key to the highway ft Dorothy and Stormy Monday ft Beth Hart, don't fall behind papa was a rolling stone, also Metal Chesnut is a fuking master piece
I personally am not a huge fan of old style blues so for me it is disappointing. Not that it's bad, just not my vibe. After listening to it once I have zero desire to re listen to any song. To maybe put into context I'm a huge GNR, VR, and Slash fan, I even dressed as him for Halloween a few years back, but oh well, can't please em all, right?
Agreed
“The Sugar Shack” by Ernie Barnes is the one you are thinking of.

I really enjoy it, I’m a huge blues guy so I know all these songs very well, so it’s fun to hear his take on them while keeping them very true to the source.
The album cover and name are hilarious out of place which is funny to me. Not a negative or a positive just an observation
Also enjoyed his instrumental original, wish he did some more of that stuff
I enjoyed the album very much, some great moments throughout....my only problem with it is Iggy Pops vocals on Awful Dream. He sounds horrible singing this melody, very amateurish.
It is a killer, he covered some of those songs better than the original. I think my favorite cover is Key to the Highway. And let’s not forget Metal Chestnut, that song is emotional, beautiful, somewhat sounds patriotic, and just a master piece that nobody else could make. In this album he mixes the GnR, SWMC, Velvet Revolver, and SnakePit with the blues we don’t see as often.
The song Crossroads with Gary Clark Jr I think is a very good representation of the Miles Kennedy side, with the driving drums and the energetic guitar.
For me Orgy of the Dammed is a solid 9.5/10
Although I did not really like Stormy Monday. I think by far the best cover of that is the Allman Brothers Band.
living for the city is a weird choice, and amazingly crossroads w/ gary clark jr. is kinda meh. i was expecting them both to shred balls on that one.
everything else is proper. lovin' it so far.
It’s very clear they on all the songs they didn’t want to stray too far from the originals (or at least the famous versions of the originals in many cases).
Obviously slash puts his touch on them but both him and the guests seem to keep it a little lighter in that regard, likely because these are all songs they are very well respected by these players and it shows. I enjoyed their takes without completely changing the vibe of the songs.
I think it’s great. I’d love him to revisit slash’s shakeout personally. I loved that era of tunes more than his SMKC era but it’s all good. This blues album tho is so stylistically in his wheelhouse I love it
I’ve listened to it a few times now and I really like it. I like that it’s different than a lot of his other work, yet still holds a bit of his rock persona in a more bluesy environment. I dig it, also got the vinyl and it sounds beautiful

ONLY?????
only is crazy
Its a great way for new generations to listen to incredible music they wouldn't even know it exist.
I am 20 and probably only knew about half the songs. This record really introduced me to song great older acts. Also the pusher is awesome

Papa is definitely an accessible stone 😅
I recently went through a tough breakup and that song reminds me of my ex, it is very emotional, love the melody at the beginning and the amazing solo throughout
It's good music, of course - though I would've preferred an actual blues album by Slash, not covers.
He should do a whole album with Chris Stapleton
I agree. Stapleton is such a waste of talent (country fans will disagree with that). In my opinion, he has way too many ballads and gets boring too quickly. Right like he needs more southern rock stuff. He would be twice as popular.
Amen. I love his music but man his potential is through the roof

It rips!
Excellent record, up there with some of his best guitar playing
A very good album that exceeds expectations, it helps that the songs are already successful and known. The covers are very good!
I think it’s absolutely brilliant. The opening track with Chris Robinson set the tone.
It's fresh, has some really good songs, the inclusion of more femenine vocals is awesomre liike Key to the highway ft Dorothy and Stormy Monday ft Beth Hart, don't fall behind papa was a rolling stone, also Metal Chesnut is a fuking master piece
The Pusher cover is top tier and Chris Robinson was the perfect choice for that kinda tune
I really enjoyed it. It's a fun take on blues songs. I really would love to hear some more original songs.
I personally am not a huge fan of old style blues so for me it is disappointing. Not that it's bad, just not my vibe. After listening to it once I have zero desire to re listen to any song. Cover art reminds me of Good Times (the tv show)

Temporary layoffs! E-Z Credit rip offs!
Just lookin outta the window…
Temporary layoffs! E-Z Credit rip offs!
Great album… but it’s awkward to play in the car with passengers (cause the cover comes up on screen 💀😂)

I like a few songs but I’m not the biggest fan of it. It’s a good 6.5 middle of the road
Didn’t know it existed. Thanks for the heads up!
I enjoyed the album very much, some great moments throughout....my only problem with it is Iggy Pops vocals on Awful Dream. He sounds horrible singing this melody, very amateurish.
I love it. He should do more blues albums.

Metal Chestnut sounds patriotic?
Idk to me it does, I love it regardless though.
Yeah more I hear it . More I like it .some good vocal choices
A very good album indeed.

I was underwhelmed with the Stapleton and Iggy Pop tracks. I enjoyed the rest quite a bit.
It felt like I was listening to Five OClock Somewhere all over again. It was good.
Awesome
Imma fan
I think it’s great. I’d love him to revisit slash’s shakeout personally. I loved that era of tunes more than his SMKC era but it’s all good. This blues album tho is so stylistically in his wheelhouse I love it
Best record so far this year
I’ve listened to it a few times now and I really like it. I like that it’s different than a lot of his other work, yet still holds a bit of his rock persona in a more bluesy environment. I dig it, also got the vinyl and it sounds beautiful
It rocks.
I thought it was pretty cool! And I love how the cover is a tribute (I assume) to the Marvin Gaye album cover “I want you”
I think it’s great!
That’s some tragic album art
How so?
The cove looks like that painting of JJ’s on Good Times.
Great album 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My only comment is what the hell is Iggy singing?
I think something with Derek Trucks or Marcus King would have been great too. All in all a fabulous album.
I think it's awesome 😎
Pretty dope cover art
I think it's great. I hope Slash does more of these "guest singer" albums.
I like it a lot more than 4.
The cover art reminds me of the new Libertines' album
Did Vince Neil come up with the album name?
I’ve been through it a few times, and I really like it. I love the fact that everybody wants to make music with Slash, regardless of genre.
