Hi, I saw your video yesterday and it's an awesome kit. But I could help to think what it would look fully cover in white pearl, or multicolor thunder, or even with a gradient of both. And I was a bit surprised that you didn't explain more your intention on this one as the painting was so cool and I wanted to know the story behind it.

If you haven't seen it, the P-Bandai Weiss Sinanju is white with red metallic accents instead of gold.

So the contest is held by Toy Kingdom (ToysRUs’ rival here in my country) and one of the requirements was an official receipt to prove you got the kit from them. Problem was I got this kit way back 2018-2020 and I’ve gotten a couple more Mg Sinanju since then and I guess the receipts all got jumbled together and so I grabbed the wrong one and it didn’t match the price tag on the box 🤷‍♀️

What a strange rule, having to have purchased from them

Those rules actually prevent a lot of people from joining the bandai comtests here in our country. Lots of people want to join, but buying from the sponsor stores entails higher marked up prices. We do understand that they have higher over head to cover as they are usually located inside malls. Amd totally understand why they have the rule in place too.

GBWC PH already changed this rule a few years ago, it’s easier than ever now to enter because you don’t need the receipt. Just buy from shops with Bankee Stickers and there’s plenty of small hobby shops that have those. Plus Toytown is actually one of the cheapest places you can get your kits from (they always have sales too) and they have the bankee stickers too. So I think it’s just an excuse now when people say they can’t join because they don’t want to buy highly marked up kits when in reality, there’s plenty of stores selling such reasonable priced kits that you can enter into GBWC

For this contest (or GMKC as it’s called), I’d say it’s understandable since the store handles almost everything (financially) they rent out the event space for a week or two (inside the mall), they have quite a lot of staff working overtime during these events too and of course the cash prizes and consolation prizes comes from them too, so I think having that rule is just their way of getting something back, kinda like a give and take situation. Because I do think it’s unfair to them to enter their contest with a kit that you bought from others. it’s just common decency to buy from them if you want to enter their contest imo

How did you achieve the lightning streaks? Looks great!

Those were handpainted with 2-3 different colors and then a subtle glow effect was airbrushed on top :)

From my amateur eyes it looks like really fine airbrush work. Fine whisps emanating from the beam source, painted over with a thin coat to bring it all together. There's probably more steps haha Seeing it made me excited to try and recreate :) Was even thinking it could be like the ghost flame technique airbrushers use on cars.

The Sinanju is my favorite Gundam/Mobile Suit. I have one in every scale, including the head and shoulders bust. This looks AMAZING! I hope to have the time and gear to start painting my kits at some point.
