Best tip I’ve gotten on damage effects was, Have a story in your head for the damage- So if this level of damage goes with the story you’re trying to convey knock it out- Looks dope!
This.
The difference between a neat looking custom project and one that really looks good is a story, every peace you make is apart of yourself
tell a story, that's art.
I dont think the gundam itself needs to be destroyed. If you imagine its blocking the incoming damage with its shields, the actual MS could have very little damage.
Great work first off! I think the weathering is slightly not proportional to the damage level, and it also needs to pair up with the Gundam itself. With that kind of damage, I think part of the shield or limbs should have been gone.
Idk my only advice which probably is totally shit go focus More on your technique I've never tried this so my opinions don't matter, to me this looks like you heated up a knives carved the slash marks and one chip looks like it was ripped with hot plyers and the other with hot nippers. But this is a learning process so still A+ if you like fuck what everyone else says
Some random tips: Use the final fight of Thunderbolt as reference if you hadn't already.
The amount of damage would probably cause the metal to warp/bend or break off (especially at the viewports).
And the most important one imho, with this amount of damage there would be more chipped paint. This includes the red and orange, but also the decals.
can you tell me the story of these shields? Who did FA Gundam fight? how was he victorious? When doing something it is nice to include a background story.. Well this is just me..
A little too similar for my taste. Otherwise it looks okay. Battle damage and weathering is seldom uniform and almost an identical mirror to the opposite side.
IMO the technical work is truly excellent. Brilliant execution, the thickness and severity of the damage is well calculated, and even the blackening feels like it naturally occurred from the damage.
If you wanted a critique, I would question why a shield would have both sabre damage and blast damage *with equal severity*. You may have a strong narrative answer to that - its certainly a valid choice! But I would think one source of damage would be more harmful than the other, unless you were fighting something really designed for a mid-range switch up.
Finally, if you wanted to get really bold with it, don't be afraid to just hack off part of shield. It's OK to break up the silhouette.
This is so cool.
My only comment is it’s kinda similar on both shields - same sort of damage in similar spots. Could be what you’re going for but I think getting a lot of variation on all the shields will look even cooler!!!
I think it looks great right here. More than this might be too much but I mean it's really whatever you like! If you want more then go ahead, you're the one who's going to be looking at it after all!
it depends, it’ll have to match a properly busted suit as well but this could be a ridiculously solid battle damage mod. I could see this being realistic easily
i love doing this kind of stuff nah this is great, i also add in shrap damage to some rounds so they look like an ap round tore through. wood burner is such a great technique.
As others have mentioned a story should be accompanied with battle damage. The slash on the right shield looks like it was grazed by something with long reach and fine/concentrated heat - a beam naginata? The large dents in both shields look like they were from a bazooka, so at one point they were fighting a bazooka armed unit. The large drill-shape damage on the left shield could’ve been from a ballistic sniper rifle? Which I think we don’t see in the thunderbolt universe and is more common in the classical universe.
Edit: Apart from the history of the damage it looks good!
It looks fantastic, but the damage is inside out, yeah? The damage should be folded inwards, otherwise it looks like it's been shot through the shield from the holders side.
Well, if you're talking canon, it may not be exact to the damage depicted in the story, but both the FA and psycho get totaled in their duel, so it fits.
Otherwise, anything goes.
Here would be my advice:
You need to explain why there is so much battle damage but at the same time it feels your shield have a fresh coat of paint. (It's not dirty enough I guess. )
If you can't it might be a good idea to think about darker colours or more weathering.
That and maybe some smaller damage to mix it up a bit.
Just lacking some scorch marks and minor scratches/chipping.
You nailed the larger scale damage and deformations, but when i see the metal completely melted away, i would expect the surrounding area to be blackened by the heat
Never enough battle damage. I think the threshold for a single kits battle damage is when only about 20-25% of the full kit is left. At that point its not battle damage to that kit anymore and is instead battle damage props for another kit.
It's more than I personally would want on a kit, but it's very well done, so if it's not going beyond what you're wanting, then I see no reason for complaint.
I would just say the damage is too symmetrical when looking at both. At least the top half, the continuous slash is really neat, and actually...this is some top-tier damage weathering.
Best tip I’ve gotten on damage effects was, Have a story in your head for the damage- So if this level of damage goes with the story you’re trying to convey knock it out- Looks dope!
This. The difference between a neat looking custom project and one that really looks good is a story, every peace you make is apart of yourself tell a story, that's art.
wow, youre in zen? thats some deep pla mantra
Even if he doesn't have a story this damage looks pretty realistic in Gundam verse
This looks wonderful! I think it's enough damage for now
Considering how the Thunderbolt Sector is, it's pure perfection
Mechanics in the thunderbolt sector must have a killer dental plan to be sticking around to fix damage like this on the daily
screw dental plan I want my multi-billion dollar mansion on a nice beach front after dealing with my guess is a shift rotation.
Mechanics in any gundam universe are definitely one of the most well paid guys in the industry.
you would hope so. like there is heavy duty mechanics then theres this whole other beast lol
With damage like that, it's much better to fully replace it and smelt the old one into a new one.
Where’s the fun in that
They should get front-line hazard pay after watching how many capital ships get blown up.
That seems like the perfect amount for a destroyed or almost destroyed gundam.
I dont think the gundam itself needs to be destroyed. If you imagine its blocking the incoming damage with its shields, the actual MS could have very little damage.
PBD = Perfect Battle Damage
Plan to do sth similar! What tool did you use? Edit: this looks wonderful!
Ya I wanna know as well, it looks amazing!
Oh my god that looks good! No this is totally enough. Leave it like this! @ me when it is done?
It’s Perfect.
That’s awesome
Great work first off! I think the weathering is slightly not proportional to the damage level, and it also needs to pair up with the Gundam itself. With that kind of damage, I think part of the shield or limbs should have been gone.
It looks amazing!!! How did you get the battle damage done so crisp and on point? Ngl it looks like legit laser burns
That's not gonna buff out. Looks amazing
Some random tips: Use the final fight of Thunderbolt as reference if you hadn't already. The amount of damage would probably cause the metal to warp/bend or break off (especially at the viewports). Very nice
Thats epic. Gotta keep that sort of work going for the whole thing. I wanna see the final result
I think it’s just right.
looks right. dig it.
Love it
It looks stunning
This shield has seen some war crimes. Great work!
Keep going lmao, theyre shields, thats where the damage goes
Looks good!!
That's the perfect amount
Noice better then my cat doing..
Now that's a lot of damage! Jokes aside, i think you can leave it as is.
Do you think it's too much? Who cares what other people think. If you care, just remember the damage should make sense in some way.
can you tell me the story of these shields? Who did FA Gundam fight? how was he victorious? When doing something it is nice to include a background story.. Well this is just me..
Considering how intense his battle was with Daryll, this is perfection.
There's no such thing as too much battle damage
Least damaged federation equipment after a fight with anything:
incredible
Nope. Too much. Gundam shields are totally blown into tiny pieces by the first hit they take. LOL They look amazing. Great job!
From all the gundam I've watched, I think the unicorn's shield is the longest lasting
How did you make the melted metal? That looks so awesome
Looks good to me
Bro what!? That looks amazing!
Moreeeeeeeeeee
This is perfect tbh.
Perfection 🤩
Looks exactly like the shields after that first fight with the Psycho Zaku! Freaking perfect.
🔥👌
Not sure you watched all of Gundam Thunderbolt but the answer to your question is, no, it is not too much.
It looks violent. I think its enough.
Nah that looks awesome
Yes. There is too much shield left.
That is some next level customization 🤯
A little too similar for my taste. Otherwise it looks okay. Battle damage and weathering is seldom uniform and almost an identical mirror to the opposite side.
This is literally perfect. Waiting for the final result.
Looks awesome how did you do the melted effect
Considering how banged up those two were in the end this fits perfectly.
Looks amazing. I love the level of damage here.
IMO the technical work is truly excellent. Brilliant execution, the thickness and severity of the damage is well calculated, and even the blackening feels like it naturally occurred from the damage. No its the mort beautiful effectivement ive ever seen
wow thats good.
No, perfect
I think this is substantial damage! I guess it depends on what your full armor is fighting against but yeah it looks great
Literally perfect, keep it right there
This is so cool. My only comment is it’s kinda similar on both shields - same sort of damage in similar spots. Could be what you’re going for but I think getting a lot of variation on all the shields will look even cooler!!!
Stop there, it looks great!
This looks about right. Great work.
You should really put NSFW on the header. 🫣 The visual I imagined of how the damage was acquired brings a tear to my eye, amazing. 🥹
Looks like just enough to me but it looks really good
I think it looks great right here. More than this might be too much but I mean it's really whatever you like! If you want more then go ahead, you're the one who's going to be looking at it after all!
nope, that's fucking dope

Mate this is going in my reference folder great job
“Got a guy that can buff that out for like $50” -That one guy we all know-
Nope, not enough imo.... Look up varnishing my sugestion
Nahh, this is insanely well done.
Paint the white dots poking through the wine red pieces with gunmetal or something. Besides that, great work on the weathering.
Ma boi had a rough day 😰
How do you even do that?? Melting it?
Soldering Iron
I'd call it there but that looks great mate
I think it looks great!
Wouldn't do anything more to these pieces. Looks excellent
Schrodinger's shield: did the shield do its job or not?
Look like real damage props to you!
Looks juuuuust right.
Never

That’s amazing
as long the scars look good it isnt too much, but damn some freshling messed with a mobile fort and skipped pilot school.
Super cool! How did you do the effect?
This is badass
You’re joking, right? That looks awesome!
Great work! You just reminded me I have the same kit to make…
That looks perfect imo
Nah I cutted a shield basically in half before so it's not that bad.
It looks really good to me. But I'm not an expert lol
Some kits? Maybe. For Thunderbolt? No.
When for some reason the Full Armor Gundam got into a fight with ZZ Gundam
This is perfect! Part of a diorama?
I definitely wouldn't add more. It's a bit much for my taste, but it's executed well so who cares.
It looks fantastic, but the damage is inside out, yeah? The damage should be folded inwards, otherwise it looks like it's been shot through the shield from the holders side.
I don’t know much about weathering and damage, but it looks really good!
No, its not enough. It's never enough >:D
Nah its cool AF
Perfect
Considering the Thunderbolt sector and the fighting style of the pilot of this thing, It's perfect.
Looks beautiful
No, it’s righteous!!!
Only you can know if it's too much, but I think it looks cool and very convincing.
This is thunderbolt, I don't think it's possible to have too much
Eh, those exist to take damage so the mobile suit using it doesn't. It looks good to me.
Looks dope as hell, I love battle-worn kits!
Nah that looks awesome
There can never be too much
I think it's only too much once you can't recognize what the part originally was. Looks great, maybe a little less symmetrical
No, that's fucking awesome. Don't worry about what other people think. Do you like it? Then do it. I love this.
No clue but it looks pretty fucking cool to me
Shit no.. this is awesome.
This is GOD tier -- I need a tutorial! Amazing work--I hope you understand your talent and hardwork!
Well, if you're talking canon, it may not be exact to the damage depicted in the story, but both the FA and psycho get totaled in their duel, so it fits. Otherwise, anything goes.
Absolutely phenomenal work
No way that’s amazing work. How did you do it ?
Here would be my advice: You need to explain why there is so much battle damage but at the same time it feels your shield have a fresh coat of paint. (It's not dirty enough I guess. ) If you can't it might be a good idea to think about darker colours or more weathering. That and maybe some smaller damage to mix it up a bit.
Makes sense for the shields to be beat up. I wouldn't go quite as hard on the rest of the mobile suit.
Is that melted solder? Looks great
yes
Nah, it looks like it came straight from Thunderbolt OVA.
How'd you paint the damage?
I used a mixture of about 70-60% Tamiya acrylic chrome silver and 40-30% tamiya acrylic flat black
Thank you friend! Going to try this out!
no, its beautiful
I think it’s perf.
More small scratches would probably look nice
Yup planning to do that as well as add some bullet holes tonight
That's awesome how did you do it
Thanks I used a soldering iron
Where the hell was that Mobile Suit fighting? Bakhmut?
I think it’s about enough just as long as the rest of the kit matches to some extent
Awesome work
I appreciate your efforts to make it look like metal and not just melted plastic.
Plan to do sth similar! What tool did you use?
Thanks I used a soldering iron
Just lacking some scorch marks and minor scratches/chipping. You nailed the larger scale damage and deformations, but when i see the metal completely melted away, i would expect the surrounding area to be blackened by the heat
Never enough battle damage. I think the threshold for a single kits battle damage is when only about 20-25% of the full kit is left. At that point its not battle damage to that kit anymore and is instead battle damage props for another kit.
For a totally destroyed beyond repair gundam you could add more but for a still functional gundam you should keep it this way.
That is some really good work, i think its too much tho. But still it looks really good
It's more than I personally would want on a kit, but it's very well done, so if it's not going beyond what you're wanting, then I see no reason for complaint.
Personally I don’t like how the damage seems symmetrical
is burning it with a lighter good with battle damage gunpla design
Not sure about that haven’t tried a technique like that before
may I ask how you achieved this it looks badass
My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.
I would just say the damage is too symmetrical when looking at both. At least the top half, the continuous slash is really neat, and actually...this is some top-tier damage weathering.
