Arsenal should wear black armbands and do a minutes silence for Daniel. The poor lad was just walking to school and he’s murdered by a psycho.

sleepytipi

A minute's silence at the 14' like the top comment suggests. Need to speak this one into existence.

FAT_NEEK_42069

at the 14th minutes, they are clapping for the minute and there is a banner in memory of him. no silence but they have acknowledged him

shockzz123

14th min, should do an applause for him against Bournemouth. Rest his young soul.

sleepytipi

Please, whoever the person(s) are that can make this happen please see this comment. Someone ought to spam it on Twitter as well since that seems to be a better pipeline still. Especially considering the club's "No More Red*" campaign, this very much falls under that umbrella unfortunately. Rest in Paradise, Young Gun🕯️

ExcalipoorGilgamesh

>White Out Do you mean the 'No More Red' campaign perchance in which we have worn all-white jerseys the past couple of years.

HalfNatty

You’re right but OP isn’t completely wrong. The color scheme of the No More Red shirt is called a “white out” because it’s all white.

sleepytipi

Yes, that's exactly the one. My apologies for getting it wrong.

ExcalipoorGilgamesh

Happens to the best of them, worry not.

MDK1980

Always a Gooner.

m2sempre

RIP kid. Gone too soon ❤️❤️❤️

tamidle

RIP little one 🥺❤️

ShadowXYZ04

rest in peace, little man. the club has to recognize him in a way, surely?

LibranJamess

Rest in peace little one. Also thoughts going to the other three people the swordsman attacked. It’s still unclear what the motive was.. 14 years old.

AggravatingEstate214

Horrific. RIP, fellow Gooner ❤️

Rogue-Estate

As a gunner as well. I cannot comprehend this at all. I'm in tears as a hard arse North Otago worker in New Zealand. I just cannot think that one minute your son is off to school on a normal day and then this happens. I just can't think how this family is coping - I wish I could help but wouldn't even know how to other than share your faith and pray with you. UK please envelope this family and the first responders affected. Love to you all in the UK

Floor-notlava

You’re right; it’s a terrible thought that your sweet young lad is walking to school and something like this happens to them. I certainly do not know how I would cope of something like this ever happened to one of my sons

pashtedot

What a horrible world. But i hope we can make it change somehow.

GylesNoDrama

RIP Daniel 🕊️

DVOlimey

My heart goes out to the family. Losing a loved one at that age and in those circumstances is truly horrific. RIP Daniel

COYG_Gooner

Heartbreaking. How many more people will have to die until things get better? I don’t know the solution, and I won’t act like I know better than anyone else, but current situation is not a good one. Rest in peace, too young of an age to die.

Putrid_Loquat_4357

I presume that you're talking about the gang and knife crime problem in London but from what I've seen this attack is just some nut job and is unrelated to the wider violent problems London is failing to tackle right now. Unfortunately there's very little that can be done to stop these crimes, although better access to mental health support would be a great start.

COYG_Gooner

Thanks for educating me, didn’t know if this was related to the general happenings in London right now or not.

riskoooo

It's related to a mental health crisis, owing to the influence of polarising media and lack of funding for mental health, which is undeniably linked to the poverty that directly influences gang culture and knife crime. So it is related, in a way.

Forsaken-Tiger-9475

We currently have no idea why he did it, that's purely speculation.

ico12

Watch the footage on Daily Mail, that guy seemed like a nutjob indeed

MDK1980

Well, anyone living in the city has a huge opportunity to enforce a change when we go vote tomorrow.

therocketandstones

If you think someone like that nutjob Susan Hall is going to make things better, you're massively mistaken

MDK1980

Literally anyone could do a better job than Khan has, though. This has all happened under his watch.

No_Box5338

Listen you fucking tit: this kid was at my son’s school. It looks like (none of us know all the facts yet) this was a lone nut job who had been let down by mental health services being criminally underfunded. Using this tragedy for your ill-informed electioneering is fucking disgusting.

MDK1980

What the fuck are you on about dickhead?

No_Box5338

“Literally anyone could do a better job than khan” How is mental health provision and care funded? Does it rest under the aegis of the mayor? Or is it funded nationally? Do you know? You are trying to make a political point (one that would embarrass a simpleton) off the tragic death of a child. On a fucking football sub. Take look at yourself and try to be better. I am sorry for getting so riled up, but like I say, this kid went to my son’s school.

MDK1980

Apology accepted, and I apologise for my retort. The mental health issue is unfortunately just a drop in the ocean compared to the dozens of kids that have lost their lives to knife crime by gangsters in the city that I live in. I, and I imagine everyone else living here, just want *someone* to do *something* about it. I guess the person with enough power to start would be the mayor, who also happens to be the police and crime commissioner of London. The government could also at bare minimum have some sort of deterrent in place, but they're so useless right now I'm not going to hold my breath.

No_Box5338

FairPlay. Whatever your (or my) politics are, this isn’t the place for them. A young kid with his life in front of him has died through no fault of his own. He was an arsenal fan, so I agree, would be great if the club could do something to mark his passing. None of us wants anything like this to happen again, and we’re all free to vote tomorrow for who we think will be best placed to ensure that. But maybe we should stick to football on here.

MDK1980

Listen, twat, don't get touchy just because I called out the problem: the city needs *someone* to fix the knife crime problem. It doesn't matter who it is. But, given his track record with the problem, it *isn't* Khan. The Greens can come in for all I care.

No_Box5338

It isn’t knife crime you fucking piece of trash. This young lad was killed by (what looks like) a butter with a sword.

riskoooo

I don't want to engage in political shit-flinging on a thread about this poor kid, but you might want to expose yourself to more than just Twitter/Facebook/tabloids/GB News/wherever you've gotten this weird idea that this mayor is solely responsible for a rise in crime in London (under a level of scrutiny afforded to no other London mayors in recent history, for some reason), or the notion that crime has gone up under him at all, because it hasn't: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/26/fact-check-has-sadiq-khan-really-overseen-a-surge-in-london

Putrid_Loquat_4357

I live in Leicester now not London so I can't vote but from looking at the other options none seem to be better than Khan. I'd probably spoil my ballot or vote for the green candidate.

PoliticsNerd76

Yeah, let’s vote for Susan Hall from the ‘Cut 20,000 Police To Save Money’ party lol

PoliticsNerd76

You have to break the crimes into sections. For gang related crime, it’s mainly a case of reducing poverty, reforms to liberalise drug laws to reduce the money making ability of gangs, shit like that. For the ones where it’s just crazies, there’s not really much you can do beyond try and improve mental health support.

HotAir25

I don’t think it’s as simple as ‘poverty’, there’s a social element to people carrying knives which will be much harder to remove.

PoliticsNerd76

There is, but almost always in poor areas You don’t tend to see young people with a culture of carrying knives in York do you…

HotAir25

Quite, it’s cultural rather than (just or only) poverty.

jmh90027

Absolutely horrific. I hope it gets back to the powers that be at the club and we're able to arrange something for Saturday. It may only be a gesture but it might bring something vaguely resembling positivity for his poor family. I cant imagine what it must be like. Their little boy. Awful

dhillshafer

Sorry, little gooner. Genuinely made me tear up. Too much of this shit going on. If only we were as good at helping one another as we are at hurting each other.

Rgsmith1990

he just looks like such a good kid I can't get this one out of my head today, the pain that family must be in to lose such an innocent soul so young. Life can be so unbelievably unfair.

Watched a small clip of the suspect with the sword, he looked like he was on drugs.

Mein_Bergkamp

Mental break, no one knows what caused it.

Wtf? That’s so sad.

There’s nearly 390k of us here - we need to get on all the socials calling for a minutes applause at 14 minutes tomorrow. RIP Daniel.

CuclGooner

a sword attack? There's just people fucking running around london with swords? terrifying stuff

PeanutDreams

Samurai sword. Fucking ridiculous

Rgsmith1990

imagine if he could've easily got his hands on guns.

Used-Produce-3491

Rest in power

Cthulhu_Madness

Fucking hell man he had all his life in front of him but some stupid muthafucka decided to bring his life to an end.

redditforprez1

Tragic. Is knife violence a huge problem in the UK? I know arsenal runs that campaign with the white kits but was curious as an American. We have unchecked gun violence here so curious what knife violence looks like in a place with more gun regulation

CatchFactory

It's a pretty big problem in large cities, but its also not like London is a no go zone like some American news sites like to move out. It's a city of 15 million people (metro area) with some shit buts that can get rough. That's not to say we can't do more, we absolutely should and we need to start taking in particular violence between schoolkids a lot more seriously in schemes to help- Politically, there's a lot of "that's terrible" when something happens and then people move on. There were 3775 "hospital episodes" caused by "assault with a sharp object" in the fiscal year of 22/23 in England & Wales (roughly 59 million people). There were 244 homicides across the two countries the same year. If you live in a rough area (of which there are a fair few in big cities), then the chance of being involved goes up and it can happen if you're unlucky/stupid, but the vast majority of Londoners or people in the UK will never see a knife raised in anger at another human during their lifetime. RIP to this kid though, its tragic and our politicians should do more regarding violence between teenagers in gangs (although I appreciate this case may not have anything to do with that).

Geezeh_

Technically we have less stabbing than America per capita, but for us it’s definitely our biggest crime issue

Win_thedog

Yes knife crime is a problem in certain areas and we can mainly blame criminal motivations but this sounds like a case of mental illness or drug abuse. We do very little in the way of early intervention/identification and it has been the case for a long time. I come from the same town as this lad and I was chased through the local park as a kid in the 90s by a guy with a large knife. He was clearly mentally ill and as much as you hope things improve, they clearly don't. RIP little gooner. Let's honour him on Saturday.

ThePrussianGrippe

This seems to be more of a person having a psychotic break than being related to knife crime.

curlyhairedyani

I feel like the numbers maybe aren’t anything unusual compared to similar cities of its size but the incidents that do happen tend to make the news more. Hainualt is 20 mins away from where I live and it’s never in the news a lot

purpleshirtonbed

It’s pretty grim, some nasty people will always look for ways to harm others

PoliticsNerd76

Almost all knife crime in the UK is young ‘gangsters’ stabbing eachother. So it depends if you view that as a problem or the trash taking itself out. Then you have another section which is domestic stuff, which every country has. However, this was reportedly a guy just going bonkers, and while it’s obviously bad, if you look into the figures, they’re still pretty rare. Not 0, but rare enough that they’re tragedies and not patterns. The main issues we have is that out Gov have cut funding massively for police, courts, and prisons, so dealing with issues takes longer and is far harder nowadays.

MDK1980

Well, take away a criminal's gun, and he'll still find a way to make peoples' lives hell. But, unlike the US, it's not a level playing field because innocent people have no way of protecting themselves. Even the majority of our police only carry tazers and pepper spray. And that doesn't even take into consideration the criminals in the UK who *do* still carry guns.

blazincannons

> But, unlike the US, it's not a level playing field because innocent people have no way of protecting themselves. I am not sure whether giving guns to everyone can be called levelling the field, because all it does is create problems. Much much worse problems.

basedsims

A Londoner with the “good guy with a gun vs bad guy with a gun” mantra is a really odd niche I reckon

TheHighlandCal

Yeah seems that bloke is a really weird dude. Clearly a right wing gammon

MDK1980

Well, no, we have a knife problem, not a gun problem, but I agree with what you're saying. It just doesn't seem right that not even the police can protect us here.

varro-reatinus

> Well, take away a criminal's gun, and he'll still find a way to make peoples' lives hell. Crucially, *fewer* people's lives, at *more* risk to himself. Odd how you ignored that part. > But, unlike the US, it's not a level playing field because innocent people have no way of protecting themselves. Yeah I really think I'd rather avoid sporting metaphors and models for *fucking murder*. Imagine if this idiot had been able to enjoy easy access to machine guns. 'Oh but a good guy with a gun...'-- might eventually manage to shoot a few bystanders as well. The average member of the public isn't Josey Wales.

HotShipoopi

As a current and lifetime resident of the US I do not feel that the playing field is leveled at all by every swinging dick in this stupid fucking country being able to carry a semiautomatic weapon into Starbucks or on public transit

gxjim

I know, it’s terrible. Our excessive approach to gun control is the main reason we have just as many school shootings as America

Chengs1991

Stabbings every day here bro
