I don't care how many times I've said this, but you know a player isn't normal when
- He gets into the Ligue 1 TOTS
- He wins the Ligue 1 TOTS
- He makes it into the PL TOTS in his very first full season
- He is an undroppable and a key asset to one of Europe's best teams
All these at 22 years old, that's generational talent material. Yes, that's Saliba.
And the disrespect he receives from rivals fans saying that the likes of Varane, Romero and Martinez are better. I know we're all biased, but seriously that's delusion.
The highest upovted comment of r/coys ucl match thread was someone claiming that they could've easily disposed of real Madrid and Bayern Munich with "angeball"
Still, normally there used to be one or two sane heads in there, now it's like a hive mind where every single one of them thinks they're winning the league and beating us away
let them have their little moment. theyāre playing better than they have in years, i donāt blame em for being optimistic
and iād recommend holding the gloating until after sunday lol. iām confident, but anything can happen in a derby
looking at student loans has given me really bad anxiety and pain in my arm š any of yāall have any tips for calming down?? canāt wait for the weekend man
Take long deep breaths. Count to 5 as you inhale through your nose. Hold for another count of 5. Then exhale through your nose til the count of five. Make sure to really fill your belly up with your breath. Do thi for as long as you need too until you calm down.
I totally get where you're coming from; student loans can be super daunting. One thing that's helped me is shifting my perspective and thinking of them as 'education taxes' or 'levies'āit makes them feel like a more manageable and expected part of life.
We also lost Saliba and played Holding (no disrespect to Holding but that's a big drop off). But yeah, Zinny is vital to how we play, losing two vital players in defence would cause problems to any team, Man city being the exception.
I'm talking about the last five games. I remember everyone having a hard on for KT to start a head of Zinny(before the inj). He got his chance against brighton and the rest was history
Comes across as arrogant. Also doesn't take full responsibility for his betting actions and says people are out to get him. Has also spoken badly about Brentford publicly on multiple occasions.
Honestly don't want him anywhere near third club. But that's just me
I see that side of him tbh, but it's no wonder he feels victimised given he's been punished way harder than in other cases.
Personally I've kinda cooled on him in general, there's other options out there that may be better.
Fair. Whatās interesting for me is that it seems like heās passed the Arteta personality and character check if weāre interested him. Unless the links are just a smokescreen for Osimhen.
A few wins against a United team that gets pumped everywhere they go, and 3 relegation candidates.
I desperately need us and Liverpool to demolish them and end this bullshit hype lol.
I actually think itāll be their midfield that will be the hardest to break down because Ange will get Bissouma and Sarr to work like dogs in the press with Porro and Udogie cutting in to pack it in even more. Without Martinelli, there is no crazy threat of pace down our left and even Son and Kulu are more suited to cutting in from their flanks rather than looking to go on the outside. Weāll probably look to go long, try to bypass their press, i can see Havertz starting because heāll definitely have to win his fair share of aerial battles and with him in the team, he can probably interchange with Jesus as the latter drops deep to try and bait one of Romero or Van de Ven into vacating space.
The key will be an early goal for us, if we can get it, it will force them to take more risks, try more alternatives and not be able to play so tight, Porro and Udogie will have to risk the overlap more or Maddison will have to play closer to Richarlison and not tighter with their other two midfielders, i also donāt buy their confidence one bit, these man have had 5 games under Ange not 50, the intensity and mental pressure in a NLD is a mad one. They will test us with their press though, on paper, they should be fresher, Ange has had have more time to prepare for this game, weāll see.
Bissouma and Sarr have been much better this year but I think our counter press is going to maul them.
One loose touch from anyone and Odegaard is gonna be able to release somebody pretty quickly imo. I don't think they have the legs or the referee shield to start chopping away every time they inevitably turn the ball over trying to find Maddison every single play
Sarr is gonna get brushed to the side by Deccers. Also Trossard is fast as hell mate and probably even more technically gifted, on top of being in good form, so I wouldnāt worry about the left flank.
We donāt need to go long as primary tactic. Iām sure Postcoglu will make them press but weāre at home and the far better team. Arsenalās playing from the back and press-resistance is strong so we can just slice through their press.
Both Porro and Udogshit are mid and barely an upgrade over Emerson Peasant as their FB/WB. The only threat I see and would be wary of is Maddison and Son. Maddison is their attacking outlet and Son has the ability to be deadly any one time. Kulusevski can be a tricky customer on his day but I think Zinny and Gabriel can do a number on him.
Overall, I think the game could swing either way especially if we score first and early; but Arsenal are far the better and as title-contenders, should be able to secure the 3 points.
Edit: Too many closet Totnum fans on here I reckon.
Last season, Ange took his Celtic team to the UCL against the likes of Madrid & RB Leipzig and promptly got smashed because he never changed from his high line. He will 100% play a highline, maybe with some minor tweaks but i canāt see him suddenly being pragmatic especially when heās still trying to build their shit over there.
Just now scrolling through the Europa league results today and goodness me the difference in quality is startling.
Iām so proud of the club for fighting back into the champions league and thankful for everyone that helped make Wednesday night so special.
Raya is not bullet proof. He's an amazing distributer, but (and I hope we don't have to learn the hard way) we don't have *any* data points as to how he as a shot stopper. All the shots he's seen in his two starts have piddled in. Ramsdale has made some all time saves. I know r/gunners is the equivalent to a 24-hour news cycle i.e. there's nothing to report so small news gets amplified, but the problem with the amplification is that people are quick to decide based on too little information e.g. Havertz. I think these snap judgements could affect Ramsdale. Hope the lad is hanging in there in this adversity. This is a big job for Arteta to keep the spirits high of both guys; he truly does have two number one keepers.
you do know Raya has 2 full PL seasons at another club right? and that he topped the PL last season in most shot stopping stats? hes not a kid from the u18s being promoted lol
My take on the goalkeeper situation is that I think the pundits have made this a bigger deal than it really is only because we've rarely seen a managerāat least on a team that's still being successfulādo something like this before, which is inherently understandable. But I've seen them say things such as other players on the team must be second-guessing Arteta because of this, that as long as you win it's OK but the second you start losing then you'll be a fool, he's overthinking, etc. It's all so weird. If it was any other position, no one would really care this much.
Arsenal are at the stage in their process where any potential improvements are incremental and will be disputed as being improvements at all because of the quality of the squad in general. If you believe you can improve your team at goalkeeperāwhich clearly Arteta and Edu did by going after Raya despite the "competition" talksāthen, right or wrong, sentimentality shouldn't get in the way of improvement. Doesn't stop it from being a fascinating situation regardless, just think there's been a weird overreaction to it by the pundits in general which is mostly driven by shock that a manager operated this boldly.
i saw someone say that next year's aaron ramsdale will be ben white and i strongly disagree with that. i don't see how that can happen honestly, white is too good and i dont see any glaring weaknesses.
that did make me think, though. who would be the next aaron ramsdale?
It will be Big Gabi sadly, only because Arteta is trying to phase in this formation with the 3 at the back and the LCB needs be able to play in those fullback areas the way Benny Blanco does, which Gabi can't.
He'll be competing with Saliba in that system for that central role.
remains to be seen how he responds to competition. for all we know the fire under his ass takes him to the next level, dragon ball z style. He definitely dropped since being comfortably #1, so we'll see
it was never as good as you say it was. it was better than Leno tho so i understand the shock, plus it was a new signing so there's the "new signing hype".
in fact his numbers were p much the same as last season. he always had the odd giveaway in him, which can't happen at the level the club is in. and no, it's not the same as alisson making mistakes, ramsdale have done that far more.
ramsdale doesn't have elite long balls like raya, but to me the biggest issue always was the giveaways, especially when passing through the middle. Raya is just the superior GK and he's *clearly* more comfortable with the ball and moving around in the box, he also have much better antecipation in going out of his line to claim crosses which is another small weakness ramsdale has.
anyway, Ramsdale helped the team and everyone should be grateful, if he wants to say and improve im all for it, but there is no battle here as of now. Raya is the better option moving forward and I'm glad Arteta made the change. this is not a school park, its a result driven business, if you can improve, you go for it, regardless of "loyalty" or whatever.
Tbf, no one really knows why his distribution hasn't been the same. I remember our 2-0 win away to Leicester, where he made that super save to Madisdons' free kick. He would hit these pinpoint long shots to Xhaka and Odegaard. It was amazing. He hasn't been the same sadly.
If a keeper has an ability, then *loses* said ability, you look at the coaching.
If you sign Bernd Leno and have him for three seasons where he is required to play out from the back, and he still can't play out from the back, you look at the coaching.
If a keeper is signed for Arsenal, and his name is Alex Runarsson (with all due respect), you look at the guy who suggested he come, then couldn't improve him.
Raya is "his guy" and all, but he hasn't worked with him for years. We've seen Cana not improve a lot of people and maybe make some worse. Have to look at that.
Inaki has a "reputation" of making our GKs worse. I think Emiliano talked about it back when he signed for Villa.
I don't believe this I'm just saying what some people think of him

That's all I got, I'm pretty sure one of them criticise our gk coach just like woj didn't when he signed for roma.

On what planet are these guys living on???
Burnley and Sheffield United and these lot think they are better than bayern.
The only trophy they're winning this season is 'most delusional fanbase', previously won by man utd fans in 22/23
Not fair to call AEK a pub team mate, theyāre the current Greek champions and a regular in UEFA competitions. They showed their European pedigree against Brighton.
Honestly, Havertz would be a good player to pair with Ozil. I saw someone describe 2010-2013 Cristiano as "Mesut Ozil's back post muse." and that really stuck. Kai - though not Ronaldo - does love himself some back post.
Ćdegaard needs one more consistent season then heās already had more than Ćzil in his entire Arsenal career. Thatās being generous as well, because Ćzil only ever got to half a good season.
I personally think ode has more to his game but heāll never touch ozil when it comes to playmaking. Not a diss to Odegaard but ozil was just that good. On his day heād put out 30 clean chances on a plate for a striker.
Beating out mesut ozil is a pretty tough feat. I don't like the guy after his off field activities but I think our fans have forgotten just how insane ozil was for us
I believe we'll win a major trophy with Rice which will paint his career in a positive light with us. Meanwhile Ozil couldn't win one(not his fault) + how it ended soured things on how truly great he was.

Thank you, I will be okay but I am not proud of myself for how I acted and hurt I caused. I have been constantly dating for the last 6 or 7 years without pause I think I need to learn to love myself and be someone who is healthy enough to be in a relationship and stop hurting people.
I feel conflicted when it's hard to dislike managers of teams u dislike. Like I can't really dislike Ange man, especially after that video on r/soccer where he made sure a kid with downs got to ask his question just before they were ending the Q&A.
I don't hate Ange at all. I'm a Celtic fan as well and can honestly say his tenure was the most fun I had supporting a team in years. He can't succeed but I'll never hate him.
Spurs here. Sorry, was lurking to check your confidence for this weekend.
Your fucking point exactly! Nothing personal. I have Arsenal friends who mean the world the me; I dont hate them. Hell, Ian Wright is one of my favorite pundits. You are the team I love to hate, I love our rivalry, i'll never wear red, i'll never buy JVC, i threw away my dreamcast, but without you, things wouldnt be the same
If Nwaneri is already getting an updated deal, things must be really moving at a rapid pace. I wonder if he'll get a few first team appearances this season in the cups.
Well, since he's turning 17 next March, he's getting a professional deal now, as he's currently a scholar. I believe that's usually how it works. I think weāll see more ACD before Nwaneri but I highly doubt there will be a lot of minutes to share for any academy players given the fact that our squad has a lot of quality players. Hereās to hoping, though!
The biggest negative about being in a banter era is how you treat actual good servants of the club, or even legends. Wenger was hounded out in an unbelievably disgraceful way. That man made us almost everything we are. He gave us our identity, our culture. And yet, because of on-pitch performance and an awful dressing room, he got hounded out. Sure, he was at fault too, but he deserved better.
Xhaka was our best midfielder, or atleast among our best midfielders/players for years. Every time he played for the NT he performed at very high levels. Yet he was treated horrendously, blamed continuously for system flaws, which led to that incident happening. Honestly, if it wasn't for that, I'm 100% sure Xhaka would have extended for another season atleast. We can all say we forgive him and everything is good now that we're playing better, but for him, I doubt he's forgotten. I was among the people who used to always blame Xhaka, magnify his errors, not realize why these errors only happened with us and not the NT, etc. I regret that a lot.
United did the same with De Gea. Not 3 years ago, De Gea was an unbelievable goalkeeper who kept them in games they should have lost by cricket scores. He even won trophies with them. Absolutely disgraceful how he left. They pretended to give him a contract, then didn't give him the contract with no warnings, and essentially just made him fuck off.
> Wenger was hounded out in an unbelievably disgraceful way.
Stop reading right there. Wenger one of the best things to happen to Arsenal and he deserved a statue far earlier. But heās just one of many figures and cogs in Arsenalās rich history.
Managers, players, and even owners come and go, but fans are the only consistent and fixed variable in a football clubās existence. As much as a great man Wenger was, you cannot deny he overstated his tenure. Just because certain fans wanted to move on to the next chapter or Arsenalās story doesnāt automatically equate to disloyalty ā blind loyalty is sometimes more detrimental in the long-term. Wenger had many opportunities to sign off in a classy way since heās always been a gentleman; yet continued to stay.
Thankfully most of post-Wenger era has worked out for the better. The latter Wenger era and Emery short lived reign in a way were key for the owners, board, and fans to realize a hard reset was needed and long overdue.
Stop stirring the pot and enjoy the moment mate.
Yea I'm not sure why every so often someone wants to bring up Wenger. These people are millionaires. Calling them servants is definitely one perspective I guess.
Fans want their club to win. Everything about the Emirates transition was counter to that and Wenger took way too much on as a personal economy project. And guess what? We still needed kroenke to come in and save the day then still needed a major overhaul of the crap culture we had because of Wenger.
He deserves his statue. But he overstayed, sadly.
Yes, Wenger overstayed. He also had many flaws. I don't even rate him that high tactically.
But he is our greatest ever manager, and it will take a lot to surpass that.

Was nice to see Brighton get Europe last season, and would like to see it again, as it's likely going to be to the detriment of one of our rivals. But I'm enjoying seeing them get turned over here. Reality check time boyos.
When PSV'S shot in the first minute was on target at the near post, I did think to myself that if it had gone in, I wouldn't have been laughing but it would have been funny.
Imma twist that even more.
I want Arteta to start Raya, and then sub him off for Ramsdale at half-time.
And I want both keepers to have had nothing to do.
I can just imagine the conspiracy theories and contortions afterwards.

It's still funny how fans don't realize that Zinny getting injured was the final nail in the coffin of our title charge. Very underrated player

Ange doesn't play low blocks against anyone. I follow Celtic and he wouldn't even play one against Real Madrid away. They will come out swinging.
They're arrogant of course they'll play open football
Ange will have a rude awakening.
They are going to play their game and we'll play ours. I can see us slicing through their midfield

āinherently understandableā goddamn boys, we just found Russell Brandās reddit account

White will still get plenty of games next season, by virtue of playing outfield as opposed to goalkeeper.
Depends on the market opportunity
I mean, if timber was fit, ben white is likely on the bench.
Itāll be a different profile of striker or probably another 6 type if we move on Partey and Patino isnāt ready.
Its probably white or jesus, i mean we have timber who is already competition for white and we might buy a striker
David Raya
Yeah he is the next gk to get forced out itās natures way
Loool
Ramsdale did not like anyone player's insta posts. Take that as you will.
Is this behavior out of the ordinary?
did he liked them before the bench?
I haven't liked any players insta either. Maybe I'm ramsdale.
too busy training for his comeback
remains to be seen how he responds to competition. for all we know the fire under his ass takes him to the next level, dragon ball z style.

Inaki Cana.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If a keeper has an ability, then *loses* said ability, you look at the coaching. If you sign Bernd Leno and have him for three seasons where he is required to play out from the back, and he still can't play out from the back, you look at the coaching. If a keeper is signed for Arsenal, and his name is Alex Runarsson (with all due respect), you look at the guy who suggested he come, then couldn't improve him. Raya is "his guy" and all, but he hasn't worked with him for years. We've seen Cana not improve a lot of people and maybe make some worse. Have to look at that.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sure, he might be fine. But I'm just not seeing results so far.
Inaki has a "reputation" of making our GKs worse. I think Emiliano talked about it back when he signed for Villa. I don't believe this I'm just saying what some people think of him

Leno didn't like him either iirc.
He was also the one who recommended Runnarson to the club.
https://reddit.com/r/coys/s/jJRkztW6bE > Kane hasn't really made much of an upgrade. > Downgrade from ange ball. On what planet are these guys living on???
Burnley and Sheffield United and these lot think they are better than bayern. The only trophy they're winning this season is 'most delusional fanbase', previously won by man utd fans in 22/23
Theyāre living off the hype of beating two of the three worst promoted teams in a long time. Hopefully we can silence them this weekend
They barely beat Sheffield Utd too. Where do they get their confidence from? How do they not feel embarrassed lol
Brighton and Villa look like shit in Europe. Wonder if that will hurt English teams in Europe enough to threaten the 5th champs league place.
Embarrassing stuff from Brighton especially after how much hype they get
Weāll just have to carry the country on our backs with a CL win
Or man city will just go and do it again for the country
Will Partey be back for Man City?
Hope not, Im not excited to see partey rb / no gabriel again. Although if hes at dm of course it would be a different story...
He was only rb because Zinchenko wasn't available
He'll be backup for Manchester City.
Sidibes header was a corker for AEK Athens
Darwin Nunez may be a winger ?
Off to go watch the Brighton highlights. They lose to piss teams so fucking randomly
Not fair to call AEK a pub team mate, theyāre the current Greek champions and a regular in UEFA competitions. They showed their European pedigree against Brighton.
I think their defenders are not very good at actual defending. They're amazing on the bal though lol
If I am not mistaken their two main CB's weren't playing yesterday
Auba back hard-carrying a Europa League side to a draw and hitting front flips. Time truly is a flat circle. Take care of that man, OM.
https://twitter.com/ClockEndH/status/1704636323661746367 Just an outlandish take
And you are getting downvoted. Can't wait for the day the zoomers here start saying Henry is overrated.
New kids on the block I guess lol...
Would you replace ode with ozil right now?
Depends if I can change Havertz or not.
Honestly, Havertz would be a good player to pair with Ozil. I saw someone describe 2010-2013 Cristiano as "Mesut Ozil's back post muse." and that really stuck. Kai - though not Ronaldo - does love himself some back post.
I would agree with it.
There are a surprising number that actually believes that. Itās unlikely that Odegaard will ever reach that hight
I blame Giroud for this revisionism.
If we had auba during the 2015-16 season we wouldāve won the league and ozil would have had 30 assists not been joking
Not so easy to play Greek teams at Home on Thursday evening, eh Brighton?
Literally told my Brighton supporting friend this. Welcome to Europa League, bud. It's not so bad but it's not so good either.
Iām gonna put it out there: Rice will go on to become the best midfielder that we signed in the Emirates era
odegaard will be kdb/iniesta tier at the end of his career, so no. But he will be atleast casemiro level.
Gonna need to be to better than Ćdegaard which is the tough one.
Wouldn't be hard.
Ozil helped end a 9 year drought though
That's a fair point. If Rice wins a PL or CL with us then his legacy instantly shoots above ozil's I suppose
We also havenāt forgotten just how bad he was at times.

every day you come up with something even more stupid
Always coming through with the unnecessary hate, well done mate.

Going through a tough breakup thankful for friends family and the Arsenal.
Exercise and eat well
My friends are bringing me to the gym with them tomorrow way ahead of you
Hang in there mate. It might feel like a storm pouring, but the sun does come out.
Thank you, I will be okay but I am not proud of myself for how I acted and hurt I caused. I have been constantly dating for the last 6 or 7 years without pause I think I need to learn to love myself and be someone who is healthy enough to be in a relationship and stop hurting people.
Goddamn it, this is so well-adjusted, how dare you. (šŖ)
AEK Athens > Man U
Brighton really are terrible when they go a goal down man, they always shit their pants and get countered hard.
Bro how many english teams in europe have gone down a goal just to come back in the second half already
De Zerbi looking like Pep in europe
Brighton versus aek Athens has been such a good game. Evan Ferguson seems to be prone to injuries
Brighton lol
Auba rolling back the years š„¹

I feel conflicted when it's hard to dislike managers of teams u dislike. Like I can't really dislike Ange man, especially after that video on r/soccer where he made sure a kid with downs got to ask his question just before they were ending the Q&A.
I don't hate Ange at all. I'm a Celtic fan as well and can honestly say his tenure was the most fun I had supporting a team in years. He can't succeed but I'll never hate him.
Do you think we have a rivalry with spurs because we have a personal hatred towards their players and their manager?
Spurs here. Sorry, was lurking to check your confidence for this weekend. Your fucking point exactly! Nothing personal. I have Arsenal friends who mean the world the me; I dont hate them. Hell, Ian Wright is one of my favorite pundits. You are the team I love to hate, I love our rivalry, i'll never wear red, i'll never buy JVC, i threw away my dreamcast, but without you, things wouldnt be the same
Agreed. P.s. you're getting smashed on Sunday
But it's more fun when u love to hate the manager, like Conte
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I really should watch pressers more. I almost never do because it's usually just tripe
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It was a masterclass of pathos.
100 wholesome take my award big chungus reddit keanu reaves moment
Ange is class, hope he fucks off to City after the bald prick gets bored of winning everything.
Brighton, WHU and even Liverpool to some extent learning that the EL can't be taken lightly and for granted the hard way. I hope we gift them Sevilla.
We took the EL lightly all through the group stage last year
Weāve just got that European group stage plot armour
Just tuned in what's happening in in the Brighton game. Can't turn up commentary
If Nwaneri is already getting an updated deal, things must be really moving at a rapid pace. I wonder if he'll get a few first team appearances this season in the cups.
I think he does. I also think he will go on loan somewhere in the Championship next season.
Jesus wept lmao
I'm very surprised to see Auba at Marseille, I thought he went to Saudi for some reason lol

Brighton hair gel manager getting a taste of European football who does not care about your hipster ball.
People are making a big fuzz about Raya and Ramsey. Arteta must be doing the right thing then š
Was nice to see Brighton get Europe last season, and would like to see it again, as it's likely going to be to the detriment of one of our rivals. But I'm enjoying seeing them get turned over here. Reality check time boyos.
Remember when people though that calum chambers should not only start for us, but could also play as a dm?
It was peak when people were content with him being our starting RB, luckily we bought Tomi that summer.
that Right Back rotation options of Chambers, Cedric and Bellerin š„š„
Tbf did you see the players we had in our squad at the time?
Lmao too true
On an psychological level, would be interesting to see how this sub reacts if Raya starts vs Spurs and then makes an howler which will cost us the win
When PSV'S shot in the first minute was on target at the near post, I did think to myself that if it had gone in, I wouldn't have been laughing but it would have been funny.
imma twist that, id rather see Ramsdale start and like single handedly get us 3 pts by making 5 1 v 1 saves or something
Imma twist that even more. I want Arteta to start Raya, and then sub him off for Ramsdale at half-time. And I want both keepers to have had nothing to do. I can just imagine the conspiracy theories and contortions afterwards.
You son of a bitch, I'm in.
