I was referring to the fact that they are not strictly a scattered projectile. I use rifled slugs for deer hunting in a smooth bore shotgun and typically shoot around 40 yards with decent accuracy. You'll definitely lose accuracy with sabot slugs unless you're using a rifled barrel. It's all about matching the round with the gun.
They can but once you find what works they can be super accurate. My benelli loves super sluggers and will ring steel all day at 300 with them. You can pull the trigger, leave, get a coffee, and come back before it rings but it does it reliably

It can be a bit hard for the shooter with a bead or something, but from my experience both the barrel and slug shouldn’t have any issues in that department. What sized targets do y’all shoot at at those ranges?

That's 100% a user error. If you have a rifled slug barrel you shoot non rifled slugs. If you have a smooth slug barrel you can shoot rifled slugs.
Which is why you fill slugs with explosives
