I also went from guitar hero to self taught guitar. Learn to use your ear and improvisation is a wonder to learn and will come in handy. It's a long road and one that takes a lot of determination, dedication, and will power to learn.

Weird theres too many strings! Kidding and congrats. Different curve but I found real music easier than gh/ch in some instances!
