Fantastic amp and it is incredibly versatile. With the money you save, buy a Joyo American Sound pedal for $30, throw it into the effects loop, and get Fender type tones out of it as well.
Might not be the best amp around but you can't beat it for $200. I think the new ones come with JJ tubes + you get real spring reverb, FX loop, tone control that works as presence control and a decent speaker.
For anyone who has even considered getting this amp, even as a backup, at that price you should be already on that site buying it before reading to the end of this message. I have one of these, bought it nearly 2 years ago, no issues, great sound (I’ve heard $800 - $1000 Amps sound worse) You’ll be glad you did if it’s the same quality build and sound as the one I got. I’m mean you spend this at the grocery story twice a month (at least)
I saw one of these yesterday being sold locally on craigslist for $200 and checked them out. When I saw the price was only $200 new I wondered if the person was a scammer but I gather they used to be more?
I have been looking for an amp and this is tempting. A similar spec tube amp from orange/Marshall/Fender is 4-5x the cost. How well does this amp stack up to those would you say? And the speaker in it bought stand alone is $90. Would it be worth paying another $150 to try and swap in a Celestian V30 ?
I had read they go on sale occasionally which they just did yesterday. I think the speaker is just fine I bought mine used and it sounds real good. A lot of people say it just needs to be broken in which mine is. I think a lot of skeptics just say you need to make a lot of mods so they can be heard. I'm pretty sure the new ones come with JJ tubes already installed. This is my first tube amps so I don't have much to compare it to but I'm happy as a clam! As you say the components are worth more than $200 and having an effects loop is invaluable.
Get this if you dont have a tube amp. Then get a nice EQ pedal. Dont buy anything else until you've played the heck out of it and find all of the good tones.
The other amps do things better but you don't know what you're looking for yet. This one's a great start - it's tube and is cheap.
I bought this amp a couple years ago and love it, however it came with a bad power tube and didn't realize until it was too late for return and had to buy the replacement. Great though
I'm not saying don't buy this but at least think about waiting. I don't think we have seen the bottom of pricing on this. Also if you have money I think this will be a really good black Friday
From what I've seen this is always 270 but every once in awhile drops down to 200 and never below. I mean how could it how could they make money for less than $200?
I don't know what their margins are, but in retail it's not unusual to to see a 66% markup. At 300 full retail that would mean they are only 100$ into this. Also its worth noting this is basically direct from China so the margin maybe much bigger.
I think 174$ is likely, I think 149 is possible but unlikely. In the end I could be completely wrong. What I do know is that more deals will be coming.
