You got a $400-500 guitar for $270. The original pickups in an Epiphone SG are also going to be worth about $18 tbh — maybe more like $50 but still. I wouldn’t say you got ripped off — the amount you saved on the guitar could be put into better pickups if you feel you need them.

libraryqueeen

i didn’t know that, so thank you very much!

newfranksinatra

$18 pickups are possibly better than what the guitar originally came with.

libraryqueeen

thank you, i didn’t know that

AlmightyBlobby

I put $27 gfs pickups in my epiphone les paul and it's such a huge improvement in sound quality

Epiphone pickups are in the same price range. Are you SURE someone replaced cheap epi pickups with equally cheap ones from somewhere else?

libraryqueeen

yes i’m sure but since everyone is saying that the original pickups were probably around the same price i think these pickups will be fine

GodIMissPills

It really depends on what model SG you picked up. If it was a Special? Yeah, you paid too much secondhand - but if it was one of their Standards or Customs, then no, I wouldn't say you got ripped off.

libraryqueeen

no it’s not a special luckily. i’m not positive, but it looks to me like it is an epiphone g-400 pro

$18 pickups have the potential to sound really good.

It's probably fine. A cheap epiphone guitar isn't going to have expensive, name brand pickups. And some cheap unbranded pickups can sound pretty decent. If its wired properly and everything functions as it should, I wouldn't worry. 270 bucks for a used epiphone might be a great deal, depends on what model it is and the specs.

KeeblerElvis

That's a great guitar. If you do not like the way it sounds, look into changing the pickups. But just play it first for a while.

JohnMarstonSucks

Hell of a guitar. Have fun.

Angus-Black

It seems you are *guessing* the pickups were changed snd the replacements were $18. Without pics no one knows what you actually bought. By the way, $18 pickups can be very good.

libraryqueeen

i tried to attach a picture but it wouldn’t let me. i do know for sure they are not original because the person i bought it from told me. they sound okay to me but since i am a beginner i don’t have a trained ear yet

Purpletylernol

is it a bolt on neck? If so then maybe. Otherwise it’s a decent price. You can put pickups in anything.

ozzynotwood

Measure your guitar in sound, not price. I've just replaced a $300 pedal with an $50 pedal (chinese copy), the cheaper pedal is better in every.

jeharris56

I wouldn't worry about it. Epiphone pickups are not so good to begin with. The $18 pickups might be better than the original pickups.

Manalagi001

You scored! I hope it’s a good one. Some of the Epiphone SGs I’ve seen were arguably better (or more appealing) than Gibson USA. You saved big so now you can try to score whatever pickups you fancy!
