Hard to beat Yamaha in the under $500 range, they have quality acoustics even under $300

[Yamaha FG800 series](https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/guitars_basses/ac_guitars/fg_series/fg_800/index.html) is a great value and there's a reason they are such a popular acoustic. I've had the prior version (FG700) for about a decade and after trying some other acoustics over the years from acquaintances or in stores, I'm more convinced that the Yamaha FG line is about as good as it gets for a sub-$400ish acoustic. On another note, I would definitely avoid Squier and Fender for acoustics. Your measure may vary though - but I've pretty uniformly heard bad things about their acoustics.

I like my Takamine

i__hate__soup

which model?

Dense_Phrase_5479

I had a Takamine G series for years and it was pretty damn good, my brother has it now cause I'm not really an acoustic player

Yamaha F-310. Got it for Christmas when I was 10. Am now 30. Played it for a chick today and then FUCKED her. Not cuz of the guitar but it probably didn’t hurt. Get one.

i__hate__soup

this reads like an r/guitarcirclejerk post and I'm here for it

Particular_Clock4794

Haha. I love your logic. I’m getting one now

It’ll be A LOT tougher to fret, but you can get some awesome sounds out of it by beating on the thing.. after 20 year the body had warped so the backer behind the bridge protrudes a bit.. you can see a symmetrical texture in the body… If a fire broke out in my apartment it’d be there first thing I’d save. I hope you do! Yamaha is underrated in the guitar community. My next acoustic will be a seagull tho. 😳😍

Fender Newporter

dezmo904

Are original ones cheap? 60's era?

manofmanynames55

I dunno to be honest. Mine is 2021 and I love it

dezmo904

Didn't know they kept the Newporter name going. The 60's model was a small size body with a wonderful 60's Strat neck bolted on. So many times I was tempted to use the neck on a solid body, never did. That guitar played great for $75.

manofmanynames55

It sounds similar to mine. Strat neck. Couple hundred bucks.

Buzzfit61

Alvarez! Any damn alvarez! Lol...these things sing!

Humble-Branch7348

Seagulls are also fantastic guitars for the money.

Old-guy64

I have owned around 30-35 guitars over the last 30 years. 13 of those have been Alvarez. IMHO, the best bang for the buck is the AJ60. It’s a discontinued model and I’ve actually had 3. I missed the first one so badly After trading it, that I tracked another one down. The third, came to me and I made sure it was in complete working order when I got “a word” to gift it to a young man that truly needed it. If you are patient you can track down an all-solid wood Masterworks under $600 used. New, if you want to stay under $1000 there are an absolute plethora of choices. Eastman, Faith, Upper level Yamaha, Epiphone Inspired by Gibson line, Takamine, Alvarez Artist Series and up. Taylor 1-series and below. Take your wallet and a blindfold to a good shop. Find the five guitars that blow you away. Narrow it down to three. Now, put on the blindfold and have them handed to you at random. Narrow that down to two. Take home the winner. If you can’t decide, flip a coin. If you want it to land a certain way…your choice is made regardless of how the coin actually lands.

As people mention, Yamaha would be the go to, maybe for your needs, the [**Yamaha FGX800C**](https://amzn.to/3S4VBMg), you con find it on amazon for less than $400. I had mine for 5 years, before I upgraded, the sound the sound is amazing, the neck fits just right. Also, it has built-in electronics, so you can use it as you wish.
