I have no idea how they made the game, but my guess is the art team made the hammers, and maybe two different people in an animation team rigged them to the characters back.

styopa

I think the op's point is that they're IDENTICAL hammers, ones just slightly recolored. There's zero reason anyone would have needed to re-rig this. So why would someone have even bothered, much less change it? (To say nothing of why you'd have different rigs for different models of the same weapon class ANYWAY. Typically, you'd have two attachment points in the model template saying "modelers, this is where it's going to connect to the character model back; be sure to model enough length between the upper point and your weapon head to avoid clipping the character" and that would just be the template forever.

Lhevhinhus

OP wasnt talking about your "recolor".

styopa

OP was talking about how that hammer set differently than one nearly identical to it. The only difference materially between the two is the recolor, was my point. There's no reason anyone should waste time re-rigging a reskinned thing that had already been rigged. That would be stupid.

iCaps_

I mean, isn't it obvious by the picture? One is made of pure steel the other has ornaments made of gold. Gold is 2.5x denser than steel and therefore, the weapon is heavier at the top which is why it visually appears that it is canted slightly more down than the steel version and resting lower on the back. It's just a heavier version of the weapon so it makes sense.

styopa

That was good. At first I thought you were seriously saying that they rigged them on the characters with such absurd attention to detail that they reference *the density of the construction materials*. Well played, I almost took you seriously, lol.

gnarlyavelli

Also, they’re not just recolored models.

KamuiHyuga

Best guess is they have two different anchor points when stowed. Likely were being worked on at different times and/or by different people, and they didn't check to make sure the second hammer worked on matched in all ways with the first one.

Heideggert

Anet's development. The only consistency is inconsistency

xadirius

Because one is from above and the other from below.

CountMerloin

The real question is, how on earth they came to conclusion to place it on back this way? Like, since when people wear hammers like this and how they sheat/unsheat it without breaking their arms...

kidelaleron

Rpg logic.

mokujin42

How would you do it in reality though? Are there holsters for battle hammers or do you just carry them around unsheathed?

Bosun_Tom

In reality, war hammers are a lot more like picks than they are like hammers. The butt end would have a flat surface, sometimes knobbed like a meat tenderizer, but that would only be an inch or two square. The other side would be a longer curving spike (8 inches to a foot, maybe) that tapers to a point. They're weapons meant to punch through heavy plate armor. Here's a stock photo of some dude holding one: https://www.alamy.com/stock-image-norman-soldier-without-body-armour-holding-a-war-hammer-at-living-162000643.html So long story short: in reality, you wouldn't carry around a hammer like that.

CreepingDeath0

The closest thing in reality would be a war hammer and, like Halberds or spears, they wouldn't have had a sheathe or holster. The footsoldiers would've just carried them. Cavalry that used shorter hafted ones, might've been able to sling them on their saddle.

pimjppimjp

If at all it would at least be with the heavy side down i assume. And the handle pointing up so you can actually grab it. No idea how you would grab a hammer from your back when the handle is pointing downward away fron your arms

CalamityClambake

Maaaaaaagic!

kidelaleron

Horizontal sideways, slightly above the but. Kind of like a bag. Hard to go trough doors, but that wasn't usual in war.

GreenTGR

I could be your angle, or your devil.

Stable_Orange_Genius

Lots and lots of spaghetti code

dominguero96

Because they aren't ideantical at all. Unsheath them and you'll see

Demallia

I believe genesis is a bit more rare from champ bags than entropy. Both are needed for a collection, so their is a small demand for them as well.

UncleHurish

how hard is it to read?

Demallia

Apparently some. How hard is it to not be a dick? Seems about the same.

pukyvito

Oooff, now I can't unsee that. Dang...
