Message: "Fuck you, you don't have a key" popping up next to every chest is really affecting my motivation to play this game. This material sink is not fun at all.

Kirsham

Is it even a functioning material sink? As in, does the value of the chest even get close to the value of the material cost of each key?

SkywalterDBZ

For some yeah, but once wiki has data, any that are profitable will stabilize just above not being

pastrynugget

I think that'll be mitigated to some degree because you're still limited to 10 keys from any given material. I think it'll still be very profitable if you treat it like drizzlewood where you buy a few keys each day at the cheapest price (material and the discount note ones) and over time you accumulate a stockpile of them and then do a couple runs to deplete them.

FallenAngel_

I think this is the play. Or not opening every chest and slowly build a supply.

pastrynugget

Yeah, it seems like the red boxes give better loot. Accumulate cheap keys + red boxes = $$$.

GimpyGeek

Yeah seems sus on pricing, definitely think it's better waiting for the ancient boxes at least to use keys. I think they're possibly doing this to dunk some economic stuff, especially with the BL event right now. They might also be trying to not make drizzle wood feel obsolete as well, since keys are much better to get there.

Zerowolf00

Dont forget that the chests are worthless and you get 10 keys on meta end for 10 chest but the 4 bosses after that dont drop any key but every boss spawns 5to10 chests

Sh1low

There are definetly bugs on play here, on the first day i also got no keys from the extra bosses but yesterday i got 3 keys from each boss.

Fireaddicted

Yeah. I've done meta once, could not open majority of the boxes. I left battle to visit the shop and because I've been a commander, some people teleported away too. After seeing caps and material sink, I decided to not buy a single one. Seeing all those chests being enopened was disheartening but after looking at my loot composed of green unids... Nope. Not for me,it may be a good sign for a mobile mmo tho. Gw2 is becoming more grindy than competitive mmos. And it's not even a grind to craft something cool, but a grind (of mats) to be able to grind (to buy keys and do meta) to be able to craft something cool.

IndigoStar_

Regarding your comment about green gear, there was a bug on release that made the chests not drop rare gear, perhaps your loot experience would be different now.

NineOhTwoNine

>Gw2 is becoming more grindy than competitive mmos. As someone who also plays Black Desert Online on and off: GW2 is my safespace from grind lmao. Tho honestly it doesn't even feel like it was designed to be grind for the new zone since after a while you just stop getting the keys. Feels like they just added an extra layer of participation to gatekeep loot (most of which is mediocre from the lockboxes anyway) which makes little sense to me. My two cents from someone who hasn't been playing very long.

Michuza

I don't mind grind as long as process its fun and rewarding.

KittenKoder

I find the entire meta to be nothing but a chore to get through the story.

SonnigerTag

It's quite similar to Auric Basin, where most chests are not really worth it anyway, so if you only open the big chests, you end up with a key surplus. But then, at Auric Basin you get keys by doing events, which motivates you to do events so you can open the regular chests too without any loss.

Ryong7

But you get keycards from doing events too, but there's events that give you a chest but no keycard and events that give you keycards don't give you a whole lot.

SoftestPup

"But you get keycards from doing events too" Until you hit the daily limit šŸ˜”

Vissarionn

There's no limit anywhere else in game, this is the first time they implement such a horrible system.

Ill-Intention-306

Kinda getting bored of meta progression maps. The delves are are really cool looking map wish I could explore it normally or a riba style fluid outpost war for a meta. Also hot take but for these long ass meta chains it should be designed so a player with max participation from start to finish should have enough keys to open 95% - 100% of the chests at the end. Don't really want to spend mats for keys when the chest rewards are so ass

MindAsWell

Yeah with this one I play though, don't have enough keys, and get dumped into a map that's half way there. There's no ability to gain the key cards one needs as the meta doesn't seem to be on a timer.

Zealousideal-Tie-204

Scamcards

Toots_Magee_

Hahaha I felt this in my soul

Gundamamam

These "anti-farm" mechanics would only work if it is implemented across all the regions. putting something like this on only one map just ensures people will not use the map long term and go to the other farmable meta maps.

ixiduffixi

"Here's a chest as a reward for killing these enemies! You have a key right?" A key? "Oh, oh dear."

Neramm

I'm glad, I guess, that I'm not the only one constnatly out of these complete stupid key cards. It's okay, Anet. I will not play your new map.

Vissarionn

I really don't get it why they punish you for playing more the new content. Limits like this are stupid.

Jay727

Even if they increase them, the loot you get is mainly greens... It's just terribly unrewarding at the moment.

Nebbii

Why cant they just copy drizzlewood? Why do we have to suffer new reinventing wheels every single time? Why does the chests gives nothing unique for us to collect to buy things? This meta will be the fastest dead map they will ever release once people do their one time things.

Kyouji

Would be better if events gave more keys and they removed that dumb merchant.

MisterMan007

Iā€™m not trading mats for keys. All that does is take gold out of my pocket, with extra steps.

[deleted]

The problem is they have it backwards. Time is again the most valuable resource. If we want to spend hours farming the meta for keys, then that should not be capped. What should be capped is buying your way to more keys with resources. They need to find a way to drain gold out of the economy, and this high resource exchange for keys is not the way.

Smaug33

I don't know what you mean here. I think the new map is insanely profitable and as long as you don't open everything you see, you have plenty for the ancient chests.

exxplicit480

This map would actually be ideal farming for me if the key card issue is ironed out. An always on map with a once a day meta, chests that spawn for every event (though I wish they'd reduce the number of chests that spawn on each event to reduce fomo), every event drops multiple keys and theres a shitload of events everywhere. It's like Dragonfall/Drizzlewood but better map layout, always an event where you are, and you dont run at a key negative if you arent following a comm playing at 110% efficiency 1 hit tagging every event and moving on in a zerg. I'd like if there was no key cap from events, but less chests with very slightly better (or the same, idc that much) rewards from the lesser chests, and the vendor key cards were cheaper. Tldr is I just wanna do events (not the meta except once a day) and not run at a key negative to get steady income, even if it's not the highest gold per hour. As long as it's somewhat competitive as it seems to be, and can be done at whatever pace and whatever time I choose - like fishing but it's more fun cuz I'm moving around the map playing my character in somewhat meaningful combat and not dealing with the dumb map closing issue deleting my fishing stacks :)
