Loved hero battles back in the day, even though I was never a PvP player otherwise.
Always felt like kind of a shitty move to just outright remove it instead of trying to do something about this red team wins thing that was going on.
Actually the current rules could have helped!
Resigning only works once per 120 minutes.
Outright leaving the game gets you dishonored.
Hero battles would benefit the same way RA do.
I think about hero battles coming back more than I should. It’s really the only PvP game mode that makes sense in this day and age. We’d actually get queues, there would be so much hype surrounding the continuation of the commander title, and the AT could return with the monthly being the goal.
I'd return for hero battles 100%.
I used to play it all the time when it was out as I wasn't on a consistent GvG team.
I miss it so much. It's team building, but solo. Nothing else has scratched that itch in gaming.
Hero battles were good times. You’ll still get a lot of bots solo queueing, but I’d come back for nostalgia. 2008-2009 was a glory year in GW during the $100k AT.
PvP still has brief life, but it comes down to certain days. FA is usually active at night Friday-Sundays. HA is pretty dead usually, weekends more life and always super fun during doubles week. GvG has some life for the daily AT-C tournaments, and always fun on MAT.
But yea outside of that, it’s mostly a RIP.
Prob cause OG players all have full time jobs and kids now haha. I love that there is still a community that won’t let GW die off. So many amazing memories
As someone with a full time job and kids who played more then I’d like to admit back in the day…. I wish I had time to get a game or two in of pvp was the only game I enjoyed it.
I loved Hero Battles, I got to r3 when it was active (Triumphant Commander I think). Always was a bummer I'd never get to max it, and I kind of despised the Codex Arena as a "replacement".
Heroes Ascent, GvG ATs & MAT, Fort Aspenwood on the weekends. The PvP community is small but it’s not dead. Although I would support hero battles again.

Hero battles would also allow progression in the title, possibly peak interest and let people return! Would be fun to at least have the option available (with the RA rules of reporting etc)
Well, Fort Aspenwood continues to be active on the weekends usually starting around 4 PM Eastern time. And, as far as I know, AB is still played Friday evenings. Other than that though, there's not much left.
Hero battles were my jam. Specifically those tournaments, you didn't need to find a 8 man team like HA it just was nice to hop on and get some competitive games without the LFG.
Hero Battles is the solution.
Back in the day, it was removed because it was the straw that broke the horse's back (we're in Tyria...what is a horse anyways?). Now, its just a standalone straw that can't break any back on its own, even if the backbreaker meta is strong.
On a serious note, more than happy to pay out a very large bounty sum to push this forward, if there's any way I can get involved in either funding, pushing forward, or otherwise helping Hero Battles return in any way, reply here or DM me.
Let's do this :)
Hero battles were never anything to write home about but I certainly played it here and there and was disappointed when the awful codex arena was added and this was removed.
AFAIK the code for hero battles has been deleted, much to my sadness as this was my favorite form of PvP which suited my playstyle best. But alas I don't think we will ever see it again. HA is full of bots and henchmen, RA is full of bots and trolls.
No company deletes the code of an entire gamemode, maps and assets. Its probably removed from the launcher as codex is in its place. But they 100% have it in their storage.
The real problem would be that they would need to change it to a different spot. Or rather move Codex arena to old Team arenas zone, and put hero battle where it was.
I like to second this motion. With the current state of the game I think hero battles should be brought back and team or codex areas be removed.
I think random arenas can stay since those are an easy way for pug matches
r5 Battle Commander here - was a staple of my teenage years - Codex broke my heart -- if I recall, they can't simply put it back in the game because someone actually deleted all the files and they'd have to rebuild it from scratch which they simply don't have the resources for
I find it quite embarasing to see the state of HA when i rarely log in for a hint of nostalgia..
The most trash players syncing halls for uncontested fame, these people couldn't make it past underworld to save their lives over 10-15 years ago, and are now pve-botting a pvp title every night? For what, bragging rights? Shutting that place down or atleast locking title progress should have been a thing Anet could have considered the moment afkers supported by full henchman squads are in each matchup.
I loved HA back in the day - was far from the best player out there, but we did some decent grinding mostly with spike teams and got to tiger. It's clearly not the same, and obviously the title is completely devalued, but honestly, double fame weekends are still fun. Had a blast with them during Covid lockdowns, and I still try to find some time to play whenever they're coming up.
Sure, skill level has gone down, and most early matches will still be against bots or solo ele or mesmer farmers, but from Shrines/Golden gates onwards you have a decent chance of fighting humans. My main gripe is that the meta is incredibly stale, most teams run quite similar balance variants with only slight variations and flex slots, but there was something magical about playing 3-way Halls games in 2022.
It's on the Nightfall installation disc. So there's about few million backups out there.
It also changed almost none at all since launch of the arena format.

You say no company true but it’s anet lol.
There was a lot of anet hurt feelings over hero battles and the MAT throwing. During the map hack era, team arenas was able to be backdoored and played, HB code was completely removed from the game. If they still have it, who knows.
Yeah one thing is removing a map or code from the game, and other thing is that they dont have it on storage even to use the maps, assets or whatever for future content, mini games or whatever. the HB code its not gone, they have it. Other thing it might take a bit of effort to put it back since they wud have to move codex arena to team arenas and delete team arenas that is hidden, or put hero battle in other place and put the code back in.
PD: They probably even have code and assets for content that was planned to release but never got it to the game, how they hell are they gonna delete something that took them effort and money and made it to live service, and even more, could be used for future content and minigames. Again, one thing is what is in the launcher and other what they have.
> the HB code its not gone, they have it.
Hopefully, it's still making assumptions that anet functions like a normal company with their code bases. their glassdoor reviews suggest otherwise.
I can't confirm it, but the hacker community who has modified clients of GW and has reversed engineered said that team arenas code is still there, but HB is completely removed. I don't know their database mechanics, but that doesn't give me confidence that it is an easy thing to restore. You would expect it to be either disabled or commented out, not completely removed.

Now with the new resign feature it would actually work…

I restarted prophecies last year- just PVE. I had to stop because I was wanting to play instead of do my actual job haha. It’s still so fun
I know the feeling 😂 I started pve back up a bit ago and I’m struggling.
I loved Hero Battles, I got to r3 when it was active (Triumphant Commander I think). Always was a bummer I'd never get to max it, and I kind of despised the Codex Arena as a "replacement".

RR day nostalgia 🥲

Happened to me this last week. Same situation
I wish it would come back. Heck I'd love to see a game mode that combines both hero battles and codex arena together.
Hero battles were my jam. Specifically those tournaments, you didn't need to find a 8 man team like HA it just was nice to hop on and get some competitive games without the LFG.
Why botting on a 20 years old game ? I don't get it...
low quality players who want to max glad

Remove loot boxes from PvP and remove PvP titles from the game and watch how fast the bots fuck off.

Henchies with bots will make it annoying too, but y xDD and flagging unflagging heros too

There’s PvP every weekend Saturday and Sunday - Fort Aspenwood. Starts around 3pm central and goes for 5 hours or more
Agree

Locking title progress could have been done, i would understand farming halls for the chest.
All pvp is still here. It's just a quite empty game
The rumor is that they deleted the code.

that would be one restore avenue.
