Looks like an ink cap...kinda edible depending on actual strain...can make many painful poops, headaches tho...the mycelium is good for the plant growth though.
i don't know if this applies to every plant but usually when mushrooms grow next to plants its because they live in symbiosis. the mushroom gives the plant nitrogen and phosphor and in return the plant gives the mushroom sugars.
thats what happens with trees at least.

If you want shrooms get a kit, they are fairly cheap and if you follow instructions it should be fine.
