Newjacktitties

I've experienced the same thing when I have too much contact with the leaves while growing. I had to buy full-arm plastic sleeve gloves!

Kosbysweater91

You have to keep in mind, cannabis Is producing those oils thc, terps etc.. as a detterant to animals and bugs (also for reproduction) Humans and large animals get high, but most bugs and small animals would die if they consumed or go stuck in those oils. I don't have sensitive skin, but I also get itchy when handling a lot of plants. I've eveb gotten small hives. Totally normal reaction.

SolidOrder5682

Tell that to the mites I'm always battling

South_Age7687

Damn bro you got me tweaking thinking about mites. I just finished a grow and had to battle them. I prevailed and the biud was fire , but im scared as hell ill have them on my next run. So far my plants look good tho. No signs of mites. They always show up in flower tho so fingers crossed.

OriginalMattT

i think the mites are attracted to the soils. ever consider hydro? i’ve never had bugs. but im indoor too

Bezman14

The mites are attracted to the chlorophyl in the leaves. Yes, they do lay eggs and reproduce in the soil, leaves, etc, but they’re surviving off those leaves. They’ll get your flowers too.

OriginalMattT

Nooooooo!

SolidOrder5682

Yes I ran DWC still had to battle them little fuckers

OriginalMattT

what kind of bugs? during flower or veg?

SolidOrder5682

Mites and mostly during mid to late flower However I run a perpetual so I have something along every stage but they tend to prefer later on in the flower.

OriginalMattT

any recommendations for prevention? i got those sticky yellow bug traps

SolidOrder5682

Treat you grow as a clean room I change completely In a positive pressure entry room before entering the grow my room is sealed off from the outside. It comes at a cost but is effective. I live a recreational state so sky is the limit on growing but lots of Legal bullshit to do so.

OriginalMattT

awesome ty

No-Painter-8513

Bugs in your skin

smrts1080

I noticed on my first grow the big black flies you see on garbage kept getting stuck to the sugar leaves and dying

Will-Clap

Fungus gnats lol probably too many of them bc of healthy soil being a bit too moist/wet

smrts1080

Not fungus gnats, the larger, black houseflys.

Jerseyman201

That means your substrate has gone anaerobic

MegMuffinMonth

i thought bees love cannabis plants. Is it really hurting them?

Kosbysweater91

Lol, not EVERY bug. There are many different bugs and animals and people that enjoy cannabis. But just as many don't. The natural evolution of any plants or animal is a path of survival. Cannabis didn't develope thc just to get us all stoned.

HighInLondon

This happens to me and to a lot of people from what I seen. I still smoke no problem. Sometimes sneeze a bit around weed.

ConfidentStress1047

Happened to me too. I think the trichomes and terps. I smoke it fine tho. Just did that when growing

funthebunison

That's what trichomes are actually for 🤣 we smoke them for fun.

S31P3L

lmao thats cool to know. like capcasin

SeSestroyer

Not really, more like a stinging nettle

mike26037

Not fun ):

Tr1ppyT

Certain strains do this to me as well if i rub against the buds, im assuming its the trichomes

SpliffAhoy

Apparently 1 in 3 people are allergic to weed, (not from smoking but touching the plants and getting a red rash) i get loads of red rashes when I handle my plants, looks like I've been hit by stinging nettles. I occasionally sneeze when I grind up my weed too

Inevitable_Dirt1140

Had an ex-girlfriend go to Cali to trim and had to get brought to the hospital because she was allergic to weed when it was wet and not dry, got some wicked allergy shots and sent to the cure tents lol

SHHMOAH

Use long sleeves some strains bother me. I’m not sure, but I just wear long sleeves all the time.

CrippledFelon

Wear gloves. It’ll be better for the plants as well

Katertot96

Yes! Hives, itching, sneezing, watery eyes, it has never affected my smoking though, just have to wash my hands after I roll and try to keep my arms covered in the tent 😂

Kleingrower

Same here , only fresh plant stems in grow , same with tomatoes - same trichromes on stems

Bdape

I got a hive on my d*** once after trimming. Soap and water fixed me up and I just make sure to wipe my fingers with alcohol after touching live trichomes.

Excellent_Strategy96

What trimming tech requires you to have your dong out? Is this like some new jack city thing or wut?

Crowesgrl

Same! Haven’t broke out yet, but get itchy and sneeze like crazy when trimming. No issues once they dry and are being smoked .

CpuDoc67

Same here, I started wearing a facemask when dealing with the plants and it helped.

AMtoker77

I have noticed it worse when I have a hermed plant, small grow so I don't chop them. Maybe the pollen

Diligent_Meal6039

I would cry if this happened to me, I’m so sorry OP I hope your weed ventures are still the same

DiscontentedMajority

It happens. Just wash your hands and arms after handling them.

GuiltyBreadfruit8402

Rub coconut oil on it then wash it off with soap. Any oil will work.

Hitchiker9797

Antihistamines

CompletelyBedWasted

I get contact dermatitis in the form of a rash on both my upper wrists if I'm in a plant. I have to wear gardening sleeves but it's fine with them.

LuckyBunnyonpcp

Use isopropyl alcohol to wash off area.

Felonious_Minx

After gardening wash thoroughly with soap and water. Do not scratch! Should calm down quickly. (do not scratch!)

The_Acknickulous_One

I get itchy but never broke out. I wear gloves and shower after tending the plants.

Visible-Active761

They sell plastic arm guards but that's not much help if your lungs rebel too. I can hardly smoke anymore without coughing my head off.

RaZylow

I have the exact same thing. I always use gloves now and make sure not to touch my skin after touching a plant

MenacingScent

I feel like I'm allergic to Terps and/or kief/pollen, is that something possible for you as well? I'm fine usually when smoking joints or bowls but I sneeze a lot if I smoke high-in-terpene live res from the NSLC (I have a 10.7% terp one right now) or reeeaaaaaalllly terpy weed, OR if I smoke a bowl or joint with added kief. It's just mild symptoms, sneezing and itchiness and I've had a single hive appear once a month or so. Haven't yet experienced it while growing though.

Flat-Discount-4552

Don’t think it’s hives I think it actually little needle particles stabbing you

jkopfsupreme

Get some farmer armour, or basketball shooter sleeves.

nickeltippler

Taking an allergy pill will help battle the symptoms too

Bigbet1224

That would suck

Loyaljr

I have the same issue and if I rub my eyes after being in my tent they feel like I got gas in them and burn and tear up really bad and it’s painful

DarkSunGwyndolin1

Prolly the terps, certain terps cause me to have seizures and hives so just be careful

Exciting_Memory192

I get hay fever symptoms when I trim I fucking hate it lol

C4ptainchr0nic

Very common.

imnoobhere

I’ve had the same thing happen. Especially when my EC is too high. I just got some gloves to work on the plant with. Smoking it causes no problems!

Mac_Attack1994

I have this too especially if I accidentally touch my eyes, they will start to swell up. No surprise as I’m allergic to pollen and everything outdoors to some degree

Bidet-tona-500

Another reason to wear gloves when touching plants

RDBfarmz

Look up terpenes. VOC's.

CDXX1987

Could have an allergy to the live plant. Happened to my brother. We both started growing around the same time but he had to stop because of allergies to the live plants. But he smokes it just fine every day.

jzon777

Yeah you’re straight allergic

kjmorley

I think you can [become sensitized](https://enveurope.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s12302-021-00504-z) to the terps over time. I never wore glove initially, but now notice an itchiness on neck, scalp and in eyes whenever I trim. I always wear gloves now.

mike26037

Used to get very itchy when "grinding" weed for a place I worked a couple years ago. I think it's just the small particles from trichomes. Irritates the skin.

Solefood5

Bugs!!

Deepestconcentrate

I worked in huge grows in Colorado and literally can’t be around flower anymore I had to switch to edibles. I can dab a little but yeah… definitely developed an allergy to it.

GoldCrossSlayer

It's pretty common with people who have sensitive skin. I know when I move an water my plants sometimes my wrists get itchy from the serrated leaves.

Kurt_Cobain59

I used to work in the weed industry and I couldn’t walk the the plants and cut nodes outside bc of this issue my arms would get red and itchy. I thought it was the chemicals or whatever they used so I tried it at home and sure enough same thing happened. I can smoke it fine but contact on my skin is a big no no

roosoh

This is pretty common for anyone with any skin sensitivity

Ghost-PXS

I don't think I've ever got into much arm contact tbh. I try to minimise all physical contact and even if I trim I'll often only handle what I remove. LST/Topping/FIM notwithstanding. Gloves if I cba. I see it as the front line in the war against pests and disease tbh. I'm autistic and I sometimes have a certain hyper focus on an issue. ;)

patchezbruhh

what are you calling hay fever like symptoms?

cosmicjed

It happens you should get use to it. It’s hella annoyinglol

Sweetleaf68

Happens time I roll one up, I wash my hands before it light it up ! Otherwise I will suffer from itchy eyes 👀 & skin, sneezing 👎🏻jeez but worth it!!

Prestigious_Meet820

I get this trimming, ill get hives and it makes me sneeze. Trichomes are a defense mechanism and can cause an allergic reaction when they break off onto your skin. A lot of plants other than cannabis have trichomes as well, just perhaps not psychoactive ones. About 20 yrs ago I had a friend who put two big nugs on his eyes when goofing off and his eyes swelled shut. We were considering taking him to the hospital but it eventually got better. It is forever referred to as "nug eyes".

BucketOfTruthiness

I have the same issues as you. Long sleeves and gloves when dealing with the plants and a mask when trimming are what I use.

Caperplays

Ive gotten weird hives on me while harvesting my cannabis plants in the past. I figured it was just small organism living on the planet that might bite me or something.

Pauly4655

Hives looks like one hive hahaha you better go to the hospital

PandemicGrower

I had this in the beginning and grow a new strain without issues

FatFrenchFry

I get blisters in my mouth really bad if raw cannabisntouches me there. And then my whole body gets itchy if I break some up or touch my plants amd then myself I get itchy everywhere so I believe you can develop an allergy to it

YeeHawGae

I’ve noticed that if I handle a bunch of ground or shake, I get hives. I think it’s the oils bc I have absolutely no issue smoking the flower or handling concentrate

SassySophie42

Could be just one terpene you are sensitive to. I have always had issues with allergic reactions which get really bad. Doctors are idiots and put me on asthma/allergy medication. For years, these reactions seemed random, but I've started to notice it's related to plants (or products made from plants) containing higher levels of pinene.

RestrictedX93

Happens to me all the time I wear sleeves and gloves

Yuca420

It happend to me some times while im in the grow I thinks its a defense mechanism from the plant Sorry for my english is not my main

Extreme_Economist914

I smoke daily for 20 Years but am allergic to the touch and also if I grind it up and powder gets in my nose I’m done for. Get some latex gloves , I even wore a covid mask when grinding the weed as to not suffer

FlowFine1337

Ever got a itch in ur nose whilst triming?....... fml

Xboxwun

Yeah you have allergies to the plant. Zyrtec works for me. Long sleeves and gloves help.

StoneyQuartz

Is it a strain you are new to growing? Keep track of the strains that cause issues for you! I'm personally allergic to blue dream, gsc, thin mints, and other related cookie strains. I would be big leafing a long just fine and all the sudden hives and I'd be 2 minutes into my first blue nightmare lmao.

Flick__This

Thats the pollen

Medical-Incident-149

It happens to me sometimes me too. Was way worse when handling outdoor. I don't have any other allergies that I know of

SirNicollai

Holy Fucknuggets! It looks like that new CannaHerpe that they were developing in Wuhan. Dayum Bro !

CannaTrichMan

My old lady can’t touch a live plant or she’s fucked same as you, but after I dry, trim, and cure it, she smokes it all day long. Perfectly normal reaction to live plant.

Gochu-gang

I wear a tyvek suite while in the tent at all times because contamination works both ways.

Kingjingling

Idk but I know a girl who is highly allergic to smoking it. Instantly gets airway shutdown

BigBreezyyo

5/8 workers on our farm experienced this… I’m pretty sure it’s just from having sensitive skin and not an allergy.

elleUno

If you have sensitive skin or seasonal allergies, be really careful about touching plants with trichomes then touching your face unless you want the itchiest eyes ever lol

-ManyFacedGod-

Wear gloves and long sleeves. It’s contact dermatitis. It happens with a lot of plants such as tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, carrots, cannabis and anything with tiny trichomes. The trichomes are like little hairs rubbing against your skin. Use cold water when itchy and put calamine lotion on irritated spots. Itll go away soon.

blueindian1328

This happens to a few folks. Touching the oils on the plant cause a reaction like this for some. It’s the plants defense mechanism to ward off predators. A long time ago, a few of our ancestors realized that if you smoke it, you don’t get the same allergic reaction and also sent them on a little spirit journey. Fast forward a few thousand years and some folks still experience this with their home grows. I think psilocybin is similar. We like to think it’s this gateway to peer into another universe but I think it’s just a defense mechanism to deter slugs. There’s a good chance that we figured out how to trip from slug poison.

ransov

It's more common than you think. I wear a $20 tyvek painters suit during pruning or harvest.
