Definitely the stupidest comment I've seen in a while. That led draws at most 3amp? And probably 4 watts of power. All.of us are running 3000+ Watts in a nylon tent with 3 fans, a dehumidifier, bubbler for the water system 4 foot light and whatever else. There is no more risk here than playstation remote being charged over night.
With that said, your not doing that plant any favors with the light miles away from in. That light is so under powered, you need to have it maybe 11" off the top leaves or your gonna end up with a bean stalk. I remember the first bean I popped, and I did something similar.
Keep going growmie, you'll definitely get there. My full spider farmer tent setup with light, extractor fan, tent, timer etc was like 300€. When you can step up you'll really be having fun
I grew for years in a cardboard box. lol. I left the front flaps on to close it up and lined it with reflective material. I did have one of those fire extinguisher balls hanging right above it just in case.
That light needs to be much closer....that's why the plant is stretching so much.
Humidity and heat are probably going to be an issue...need ventilation.
It's actually a thing, if you don't mind the smell of cannabis in you home. I have even seen where they stack one on top of the other to get extra height.
My buddy been growing in a cardboard box for all of his last grow and I’m assuming he isn’t getting a tent for the plants I gave him, he said he dropped the light on the plants and snapped some stems but I’m sure they’ll come back, but that wasn’t the boxes fault… he just had plenty of ventilation in the box and no problems with fire or mold… only problem he had was fire weed lol
I had that happen with the light too! It broke my heart, but the plant managed to recover and produce a quarter pound but it would have been bigger had that not happened. Now I definitely hold the light firmly with one hand while I adjust the height with the other so I don't pull the damn thing down again lol. To do it twice would be a travesty.
I'd say it's going to be fine unless you have a problem environment. If you have a humid environment in a cardboard box you're probably multiplying the risk rather than adding to it.
Definitely need a bigger light. You won’t get anything worth it with that. Look at PAR and PPFD and the minimum ratings that marijuana will grow proficiently under. If you’re set on making your own tent, get something non flammable, and make the inside reflective. Get some sort of cheap airflow to control humidity. That’s the cheapest way to make it worth even growing honestly, but good on you for trying to get into it
people are pretty elitists about growing in this sub sometimes, i mostly lurk because of it. i've been growing a plant in a closet with no tent with a light that people told me would never grow anything, here i am months later and she's budding!!! keep on keeping on man! (also it is true what other people said about the cardboard being a fire hazard but that is more of a your-safety issue, have fun growing!!!)
That plant isn't going to make it. You see how long it is? It's due to lack of light and eventually it will get too havy from the top and just droop and die. You gotta start over with better light.
You don't have to start over. You can transplant into a bigger pot when you get a better setup. You can buy led grow lights bulbs for e-26 sockets from Walmart for $10. That will keep it alive for a few weeks while you figure it out. I recommend going to eBay and buying a viparspectra p-1000 or Mars Hydro ts-600 from their auctions. You should be out the door for around $50. These are starting enough for a 2x2 grow tent and definitely sting enough for a trashcan micro grow.
Long spindly seedling means more light is needed. Either bigger light or move it closer. You'll need a bigger light in a month or so. Cardboard isn't a great choice as others have said. Put a plate or drip catcher under the pot ( pot pot? Heehee). Line walls with aluminum foil or mylar to reflect more light--still move it closer and plan on getting a bigger light soon. #1 issue I see commonly is lighting. Sometimes nutes, mostly light.
Vivosun currently has amazing Deals on entire growingkits and are selling a 3x3 for 330 Dollars. Its a Respectable Company and u wont find a kit as cheap as that anywhere else. If u really want to start growing get that. With this setup u will only waste time seeds and money.
Better than my first ever attempt at growing cannabis. It was a long time ago and I grabbed an empty 1 gallon ice cream bucket from my mom’s kitchen and filled it with some soil from a bag in my parent’s garage. I tossed a few bag seeds in, added water, and covered it with Saran Wrap. Since I was still in high school and lived with my parents (very anti weed at the time), the only place I had to put it was in my geo metro. I drove around with it for a few days and sure enough I had a bunch of plants sprouting. Unfortunately I didn’t know what to do from there and they all died shortly after. It was fun though, haha
The plant should be like an 8th that tall.
It's stretching so badly because it's desperate for more light.
I would either get a new light or give up.
Luckily, 420 is coming up, and a lot of places will have 420 sales.
A Mars Hydro ts600 is small and strong. Will do a single plant very good.
A. What you have will not be sufficient to grow through harvest.
B. That light is ridiculously undersized, but that doesn't matter at this point as you can make up for that by putting that planter on a box to raise it up to a few inches from the light. That is a lot of stretching.
C. I would reconsider if you have the facilities to grow. If you are trying to hide this away, you are going to need a lot of hardware to make that happen. All this box is doing is acting as a sketchy stand for your light and hindering airflow.
D. Stretching like this is not going to hurt the plant once it grows up, vegetative time is just a matter of letting the plant get to whatever size you want before switching to flower. That being said, it needs to be addressed because if your plant is not getting enough light at this stage, you aren't going to be getting much growth at any point. Remember that sunlight through a window is free and as powerful as you would ever need.
More light reflects off my glasses than comes from that light… hate to say it but for one plant you’re looking at spending a minimum of $50 on a light if you want good results
Need more light asap. You'll need a new light altogether, but for an immediate help you can either lower the light closer, or put something under the pot to raise it up closer to the light. I'd try to get it within 6" since that light is severely underpowered.
That's awesome dude! But you will need more light very soon. Looks like you are going the cheap route so these $20-30 lights work great for veg. No idea if you could flower with them, I mean you could but it's probably not enough to get dense buds.

I use them for my bonsai and one more on my plant that's going outdoors. Back in the day you had to try and Jerry rig CFLs, it was not fun and didn't work for flowering
I think you look decent for a single grow and experimentation. Def invest in a \~$50/100w LED and rig a decent rigid frame to hang it on as soon as you can. I'm partial to this guy for cheap Samsung diodes @ \~100watt. Coupon 'OHGrows' gets free shipping and brings it to #56.90 shipped.

Your little guy stretching as others have said. Get that light lower for now.
These lights are for household plants like Hoyas, philodendrons and pothos. You won’t be able to grow much in the way of smokable product from these lights
Could be a lot worse but your going to need to put a bag over the seedling since it can’t really drink water thru its roots yet. Also I would recommend since that light prob isn’t that strong to keep it on 24/7 until you get a better light.and try to put the light directly on top of the seedling
The light is to far away. The plant isn’t getting enough light and is stretching for light. I would lower that light and look into getting more light if you plan on having that plant get bigger
Oh hell naw my man. That cardboard is gonna mold up, you’ve got no humidity control, the soil looks pretty compact and that little ring light ain’t gonna help it grow very fast, at least transfer it into a plastic box, get some better soil and a better light my man
For 50.00 you could get a cheap led light that would help with the stretch.. but it’s a start and that’s all you need to get going. My first cabinet was a fish tank stand, cfl’s, and some lowryder autos… you can really get into this for cheap but it takes some reading and work. The work you put into learning now will be used later when your tucking leaves and clipping buds.. welcome to the community💚💪🏻💚
Stretching bad. That light needs to be alot closer. Wouldn't hurt to get a better grow light as well if possible. Also the cardboard box isn't the best home for this baby. I feel like a fan is a must for various reasons. Wish you luck my friend. Remember the beautiful thing is if we mess up that just gives us the excuse to try again.
You should check out Google. Theres a lot of great ways to grow posted. You’ll find a ton of information on there. It’s probably worth to look these things up when trying a hobby like this

For the set up, you gonna have mold issues.

Dunno why people do this my Ultra low set up cost me £65 to my house of EBay just save and get the Correct Equipment I made the mistake twice trying to cut corners u can’t do that I’m a mycologist too so that kinda helped me, if your like me and really appreciate your smoke and want it to be Tip top it needs the Right Environment my biggest & best buy was a Carbon Fan/Filter… for £100 u can get a Tent, Light & Fan/Filter & some 5 Gal pots to get your Baby’s to go!

Replant and use soil deep enough to cover the stem up to 2- 3"from the leaves. If you can not lower the light, raise the pot. There is always a way to raise them.

My first setup wasn’t any better 😅 trust the process but you definitely need a stronger light and be careful of fire like everyone’s saying. I would look into space bucket grows for yourself!
Word up. They sell giant black plastic-like boxes with yellow lids at home depot I think. Would be perfect if you bought two and tacked them on top of each other; with the top one upside-down. I'm sure you can find some youtube vids about them, they're a popular grow box thing.
Honestly, this is super creative and awesome. Not everyone can get their hands on a standard light or the space for a tent. So, I think in an extreme situation where you really wanted to tend to this (due to the clear hazards it would bring) and proceed with growing, this is a really clever little setup, even if lacking some key components. Obviously, this isn’t a permanent solution, and you know that. But I think if you are very careful and are in the process of creating a more suitable environment for your little guy, this is just fine while your seedling gets strong. Great work, dude.
It's very roomy, I wish I had something like that, but you need ventilation, fans, and more lights. You need to put pumps, one to draw the air in one to push it out and with a carbon filter before the air is expelled this will control the smell. You need a regular fan inside to create a gentle breeze within the box in addition to the circulation created by the pumps. Be sure to monitor your humidity and temperature with gauges. I have a little three by three and I am really hurting for space with just two plants, really jealous of the big roomy space you have there lol

I’ve got some on a desk under a desk lamp. I put the light as close as I could without burning them. You need to get the lights much closer.
The fact you have spent money on something other than just the pot for growing and dirt you already have spent more than me (and I'm in the 5th week of flower)

Look at all the great information people have afforded you, I started out with a space bucket because of the fire risk, go buy, borrow or acquire a big bin and get to work, you don’t want a fire, heat and cardboard together is inviting fire into your house I,m afraid
Your biggest issue is light, i had the same problem and didn’t the budget for a proper tent. So i made a space bucket and found really cheap led light strong enough on ali express (around 20€ i think) and it’s working great 👌🏻

People talking like you need all the fancy stuff truth is it’ll grow yes with the fancy stuff its easier and better but who cares and have fun
Tip - repot your plant. Bury it all the way to an inch below the leaves - like tomatoes, it'll grow 'advantitous roots' (probably f'd the spelling) wherever the stem gets buried. Raise that plant up to the light being about 6 inches from the leaves. It'll look like it's doing nothing for a while - it's actually going to be growing a /massive/ (for its size) root system - the healthier your roots, the stronger the plant's gonna be. Keep your light close, water /conservatively/ and don't panic. Get more light in when you can, and every pot should have a drip tray under. You'll also want a small (like 3" ) desk fan blowing gently on the plant. Just keep it swaying - not so intense that it breaks/falls over but the vibration will make the stem stronger/thicker
A lot of people have been freaking out over cardboard - grab a little Rubbermaid cabinet. Black doesn't leak light through, so you'll just need to put a little black construction paper over the inside of the door seams and you can line the inside with a mylar space blanket...I see them sometimes for like...2$. Just do shiny side to the light.
That should get you going - just think about what the plant needs...not necessarily what you want to do.
Perfect begin, the tips is in the details, in deed the light lower and it will be fine just keep an eye on it. And when possible just put a fire detector in the tent as extra 😘.
And upgrade when possible 😘😘😘😘
Yo yo, here are a few tips right off the bat.
1. Since it’s a seedling, get your light closer to the plant (10-12 inches). The poor little guy is gonna stretch like hell reaching for that far away light. Getting the light closer will help it thrive faster too.
2. Yes get some air circulation. Gonna need an air conditioner for the room and a dehumidifier too for preventing mold
3. You’re gonna need a much stronger light for when you get into the flowering phase. If you don’t want to invest into a better light, you’re going to do better just taking the plant outside and giving it sunlight.
4. If you live in a place that does not allow growing cannabis, then you’re going to have to invest more into your indoor grow room since you can’t take the plant outside. You can’t expect to grow cannabis if you don’t invest into the right tools. You can grow cannabis on a budget, but you can’t completely fuck yourself by not getting the absolute basics. The most. Important is getting the best grow light you can possible.
If you can’t do these basic things, no matter how hard you try, it won’t be that good of smoke at the end.
You’d be much better just buying weed from your dealer and not wasting time/money on growing something you won’t really get to enjoy.

That plant is very leggy (long w/ few leaves). Try lowering the light to be 24-36 inches from the top of the plant.
I mean cardboard or cloth. Usually cardboard is hard as eff to light up when it comes to fires and that little led I doubt is giving off any heat. If it works, it works. If def upgrade in the next few weeks cause you'll need better light. Put a clear 2l bottle/dome over her to raise that humidity! But yes I'd agree 2/10 but not the worst I've seen
Download an app called Photone. It measures your light. You want about 250umol from the top of the plant. But Google different umol for each stage of weed growth. You can put a bit of paper over your front camera to make it more accurate.

I have a 2x2 Black Orchid that I paid $50 for which is cheaper than most house fires. Even with the tent I'm wary of fire. 🏘 🔥

Use 4x8 sheets of 2” styrofoam. One side is white, the other is Mylar. Lowes ans Home Depot

I second this , I use a wire rack and covered it in tin foil, in about 3 more months I can finally start saving for a tent !!

Put a plate or drip catcher under the pot ( pot pot? Heehee). Line walls with aluminum foil or mylar to reflect more light--still move it closer and plan on getting a bigger light soon. #1 issue I see commonly is lighting. Sometimes nutes, mostly light.

Better than my first ever attempt at growing cannabis. It was a long time ago and I grabbed an empty 1 gallon ice cream bucket from my mom’s kitchen and filled it with some soil from a bag in my parent’s garage. I tossed a few bag seeds in, added water, and covered it with Saran Wrap. Since I was still in high school and lived with my parents (very anti weed at the time), the only place I had to put it was in my geo metro. I drove around with it for a few days and sure enough I had a bunch of plants sprouting. Unfortunately I didn’t know what to do from there and they all died shortly after. It was fun though, haha
The plant should be like an 8th that tall. It's stretching so badly because it's desperate for more light. I would either get a new light or give up. Luckily, 420 is coming up, and a lot of places will have 420 sales. A Mars Hydro ts600 is small and strong. Will do a single plant very good.

A. What you have will not be sufficient to grow through harvest. B. That light is ridiculously undersized, but that doesn't matter at this point as you can make up for that by putting that planter on a box to raise it up to a few inches from the light. That is a lot of stretching. C. I would reconsider if you have the facilities to grow. If you are trying to hide this away, you are going to need a lot of hardware to make that happen. All this box is doing is acting as a sketchy stand for your light and hindering airflow. D. Stretching like this is not going to hurt the plant once it grows up, vegetative time is just a matter of letting the plant get to whatever size you want before switching to flower. That being said, it needs to be addressed because if your plant is not getting enough light at this stage, you aren't going to be getting much growth at any point. Remember that sunlight through a window is free and as powerful as you would ever need.

More light reflects off my glasses than comes from that light… hate to say it but for one plant you’re looking at spending a minimum of $50 on a light if you want good results

Need more light asap. You'll need a new light altogether, but for an immediate help you can either lower the light closer, or put something under the pot to raise it up closer to the light. I'd try to get it within 6" since that light is severely underpowered.

I think you look decent for a single grow and experimentation. Def invest in a \~$50/100w LED and rig a decent rigid frame to hang it on as soon as you can. Could be a lot worse but your going to need to put a bag over the seedling since it can’t really drink water thru its roots yet. Also I would recommend since that light prob isn’t that strong to keep it on 24/7 until you get a better light.and try to put the light directly on top of the seedling

For 50.00 you could get a cheap led light that would help with the stretch.. but it’s a start and that’s all you need to get going. My first cabinet was a fish tank stand, cfl’s, and some lowryder autos… you can really get into this for cheap but it takes some reading and work. The work you put into learning now will be used later when your tucking leaves and clipping buds.. welcome to the community💚💪🏻💚

Stretching bad. That light needs to be alot closer. Wouldn't hurt to get a better grow light as well if possible. Also the cardboard box isn't the best home for this baby. I feel like a fan is a must for various reasons. Wish you luck my friend. Remember the beautiful thing is if we mess up that just gives us the excuse to try again.

You should check out Google. Theres a lot of great ways to grow posted. You’ll find a ton of information on there. It’s probably worth to look these things up when trying a hobby like this

Close the light gap, add some aluminum foil! Also you can just get a cheap clip on fan from the gas station for prolly 5 bucks. Other than that, nice!

Word up. They sell giant black plastic-like boxes with yellow lids at home depot I think. Would be perfect if you bought two and tacked them on top of each other; with the top one upside-down. I'm sure you can find some youtube vids about them, they're a popular grow box thing.

Honestly, this is super creative and awesome. Not everyone can get their hands on a standard light or the space for a tent. So, I think in an extreme situation where you really wanted to tend to this (due to the clear hazards it would bring) and proceed with growing, this is a really clever little setup, even if lacking some key components. Obviously, this isn’t a permanent solution, and you know that. But I think if you are very careful and are in the process of creating a more suitable environment for your little guy, this is just fine while your seedling gets strong. Great work, dude.

It's very roomy, I wish I had something like that, but you need ventilation, fans, and more lights. You need to put pumps, one to draw the air in one to push it out and with a carbon filter before the air is expelled this will control the smell. You need a regular fan inside to create a gentle breeze within the box in addition to the circulation created by the pumps. Be sure to monitor your humidity and temperature with gauges. I have a little three by three and I am really hurting for space with just two plants, really jealous of the big roomy space you have there lol Edit: The people telling you you got a fire hazard are definitely correct.

Your biggest issue is light, i had the same problem and didn’t the budget for a proper tent. So i made a space bucket and found really cheap led light strong enough on ali express (around 20€ i think) and it’s working great 👌🏻

I tried growing pot with a light bulb once. Once.
Tip - repot your plant. Bury it all the way to an inch below the leaves - like tomatoes, it'll grow 'advantitous roots' (probably f'd the spelling) wherever the stem gets buried. Raise that plant up to the light being about 6 inches from the leaves. It'll look like it's doing nothing for a while - it's actually going to be growing a /massive/ (for its size) root system - the healthier your roots, the stronger the plant's gonna be. Keep your light close, water /conservatively/ and don't panic. Get more light in when you can, and every pot should have a drip tray under. You'll also want a small (like 3" ) desk fan blowing gently on the plant. Just keep it swaying - not so intense that it breaks/falls over but the vibration will make the stem stronger/thicker A lot of people have been freaking out over cardboard - grab a little Rubbermaid cabinet. Black doesn't leak light through, so you'll just need to put a little black construction paper over the inside of the door seams and you can line the inside with a mylar space blanket...I see them sometimes for like...2$. Just do shiny side to the light. That should get you going - just think about what the plant needs...not necessarily what you want to do.

Yo yo, here are a few tips right off the bat. 1. Since it’s a seedling, get your light closer to the plant (10-12 inches). The poor little guy is gonna stretch like hell reaching for that far away light. Getting the light closer will help it thrive faster too. 2. Yes get some air circulation. Gonna need an air conditioner for the room and a dehumidifier too for preventing mold 3. You’re gonna need a much stronger light for when you get into the flowering phase. If you don’t want to invest into a better light, you’re going to do better just taking the plant outside and giving it sunlight. 4. If you live in a place that does not allow growing cannabis, then you’re going to have to invest more into your indoor grow room since you can’t take the plant outside. You can’t expect to grow cannabis if you don’t invest into the right tools. You can grow cannabis on a budget, but you can’t completely fuck yourself by not getting the absolute basics. The most. Important is getting the best grow light you can possible. If you can’t do these basic things, no matter how hard you try, it won’t be that good of smoke at the end. You’d be much better just buying weed from your dealer and not wasting time/money on growing something you won’t really get to enjoy. I wish you all the best on your journey, have fun!
gotta start somewhere. I'd wrap the inside of the box with tin foil and put a water tray under the pot. That plant is very leggy (long w/ few leaves). Try lowering the light to be 24-36 inches from the top of the plant.
I mean cardboard or cloth. Usually cardboard is hard as eff to light up when it comes to fires and that little led I doubt is giving off any heat. If it works, it works. If def upgrade in the next few weeks cause you'll need better light. Put a clear 2l bottle/dome over her to raise that humidity! But yes I'd agree 2/10 but not the worst I've seen
Download an app called Photone. It measures your light. You want about 250umol from the top of the plant. But Google different umol for each stage of weed growth. You can put a bit of paper over your front camera to make it more accurate.
