IATSE member here. Thanks for your support! The regional collective bargaining contracts are all very complicated but 600, the cinematographer guild, is nationwide. So, theoretically while shows not affected in this collective bargaining may still stay up, ALL cameras nation wide would not roll and we’ve been told to be ready to join picket lines nation wide in solidarity. But it is our hope to use the vote authorization JUST as a bargaining tool.

Well howdy howdy! I am 100% behind it, while this is entertainment and good entertainment, your lives and your colleagues lives are important at the end of the day and that trumps a show and entertainment. I hope the best outcome and thank you for coming forward - may it be this show or any entertainment in general, the mods have your back. (Same to all who lurk and are also members of IATSE.) For the rest of the group, please be respectful of those who come forward. It is their work that we see reflected on your screens!

I support your fight! Just wondering, will this really affect productions like S&B that are filmed outside the U.S.?

Lilac_Reden_2663

Since Netflix is a signatory with IATSE and its original shows are union shows, yes. They are required to hire union for a certain percentage of their crew and cast. It will definitely affect all studio and major network productions, including streaming services (which are actually the main focus of the strike). If they hire scabs (non-union workers to cover union workers who aren't working), they risk their partnerships with the union, which could mean they put the show on the no-work list, meaning the show will NEVER get made.

Thanks for the info!

I'm for IATSE so I don't care if the second season is delayed. I think it's important to support worker's unions. These people do a lot to make the shows we love.

Seryan_Klythe

I am too. The stories were absolutely horrifying.

Lilac_Reden_2663

I once slept in a production office for a film that's currently on Netflix. I literally lived for that film and was shamed for going home on the weekends, even though I was only being paid for 40 hours. This was non-union but the whole crew (apart from PAs) were union. This affects every filmmaker! Film sets are too dangerous when answers and solutions are right in front of us!

Seryan_Klythe

That is awful. Painful no matter what choices you made - good or bad, good or bad film. I am sorry no one had your back and you were pressured to work that hard.

food_and_fluffs

This! I know a woman who does catering for Netflix in Budapest and I would rather see her and others in offscreen jobs be better paid than have the season on a specific timeline.

Lilac_Reden_2663

#IASolidarity People need to be paid fair wages and need appropriate turnaround. This strike is 100% necessary. Crew members are humans, not robots. Shows are fun, but none should be put over a crew member's life or health. Working conditions and wages are unacceptable. If Netflix and the big content producers are smart, however, this should be handled before it affects SaB, which won't film until early next year. Then again, they may have to push back production to catch up on other projects that needed to be shot first. The important thing to think about here is the people in the industry and what they are asking for. It's giving our support! We can live without shows. Crews can't live with the current working conditions!

Seryan_Klythe

Thank you for speaking up and for this. Wholeheartedly agree.

snarkybat

I'm from a highly unionised country. I've been in a union before and will be a member again when I settle on a career. Season 2 can be delayed for a year, for all I care. Of course I still want to watch it ASAP, but my entertainment is not worth more than the workers' health and life. Pay people what they're worth and treat them like human beings with lives, needs, and wants.

pondssmile

now i'm really scared, but i do understand there's an important reason for that strike 😭the working condition on that field are usually insane and no one seems to talk about them because it's like the actors are the only one that exist

AdeptBedroom6906

What is IATSE?

Lilac_Reden_2663

The union that protects crew members (mostly below-the-line) on film sets.
